(19:18)

قَالَتْ  إِنِّىٓ  أَعُوذُ  بِٱلرَّحْمَٰنِ  مِنكَ  إِن  كُنتَ  تَقِيًّا qālat innī aʿūdhu bil‑raḥmāni minka in kunta taqiyyan
She said: "I seek refuge from thee to (Allah) Most Gracious: (come not near) if thou dost fear Allah."
(19:19)

قَالَ  إِنَّمَآ  أَنَا۠  رَسُولُ  رَبِّكِ  لِأَهَبَ  لَكِ  غُلَٰمًا  زَكِيًّا qalā innamā anā rasūlu rabbiki liahaba laki ghulāman zakiyyan
He said: "Nay, I am only a messenger from thy Lord, (to announce) to thee the gift of a holy son.
(19:20)

قَالَتْ  أَنَّىٰ  يَكُونُ  لِى  غُلَٰمٌ  وَلَمْ  يَمْسَسْنِى  بَشَرٌ  وَلَمْ  أَكُ  بَغِيًّا qālat annā yakūnu ghulāmun wa‑lam yamsasnī basharun wa‑lam aku baghiyyan
She said: "How shall I have a son, seeing that no man has touched me, and I am not unchaste?"
(19:21)

قَالَ  كَذَٰلِكِ  قَالَ  رَبُّكِ  هُوَ  عَلَىَّ  هَيِّنٌ  وَلِنَجْعَلَهُۥٓ  ءَايَةً  لِّلنَّاسِ  وَرَحْمَةً  مِّنَّا  وَكَانَ  أَمْرًا  مَّقْضِيًّا qalā ka‑dhāliki qalā rabbuki huwa ʿalayya hayyinun wa‑linajʿalahu āyatan lil‑nāsi wa‑raḥmatan minnā wa‑kāna amran maqḍiyyan
He said: "So (it will be): Thy Lord saith, 'that is easy for Me: and (We wish) to appoint him as a Sign unto men and a Mercy from Us':It is a matter (so) decreed."
(19:22)

فَحَمَلَتْهُ  فَٱنتَبَذَتْ  بِهِۦ  مَكَانًا  قَصِيًّا fa‑ḥamalathu fa‑antabadhat bihi makānan qaṣiyyan
So she conceived him, and she retired with him to a remote place.
(19:23)

فَأَجَآءَهَا  ٱلْمَخَاضُ  إِلَىٰ  جِذْعِ  ٱلنَّخْلَةِ  قَالَتْ  يَٰلَيْتَنِى  مِتُّ  قَبْلَ  هَٰذَا  وَكُنتُ  نَسْيًا  مَّنسِيًّا fa‑ajāʾahā l‑makhāḍu ilā jidhʿi l‑nakhlati qālat yā‑laytanī mittu qabla hādhā wa‑kuntu nasyan mansiyyan
And the pains of childbirth drove her to the trunk of a palm-tree: She cried (in her anguish): "Ah! would that I had died before this! would that I had been a thing forgotten and out of sight!"
(19:24)

فَنَادَىٰهَا  مِن  تَحْتِهَآ  أَلَّا  تَحْزَنِى  قَدْ  جَعَلَ  رَبُّكِ  تَحْتَكِ  سَرِيًّا fanādahā min taḥtihā allā taḥzanī qad jaʿala rabbuki taḥtaki sariyyan
But (a voice) cried to her from beneath the (palm-tree): "Grieve not! for thy Lord hath provided a rivulet beneath thee;
