Surah 6 al-Anʿām (The Cattle)

(6:45)

فَقُطِعَ  دَابِرُ  ٱلْقَوْمِ  ٱلَّذِينَ  ظَلَمُوا۟  وَٱلْحَمْدُ  لِلَّـهِ  رَبِّ  ٱلْعَٰلَمِينَ faquṭiʿa dābiru l‑qawmi lladhīna ẓalamū wa‑l‑ḥamdu lillāhi rabbi l‑ʿālamīna
Of the wrong-doers the last remnant was cut off. Praise be to Allah, the Cherisher of the worlds.

Surah 7 al-Aʿrāf (The Heights)
(7:72)

فَأَنجَيْنَٰهُ  وَٱلَّذِينَ  مَعَهُۥ  بِرَحْمَةٍ  مِّنَّا  وَقَطَعْنَا  دَابِرَ  ٱلَّذِينَ  كَذَّبُوا۟  بِـَٔايَٰتِنَا  وَمَا  كَانُوا۟  مُؤْمِنِينَ fa‑anjaynāhu wa‑lladhīna maʿahu bi‑raḥmaṭin minnā wa‑qaṭaʿnā dābira lladhīna kadhdhabū bi‑āyātinā wa‑mā kānū muminīna
We saved him and those who adhered to him. By Our mercy, and We cut off the roots of those who rejected Our signs and did not believe.

Surah 10 Yūnus (Jonah)
(10:3)

إِنَّ  رَبَّكُمُ  ٱللَّـهُ  ٱلَّذِى  خَلَقَ  ٱلسَّمَٰوَٰتِ  وَٱلْأَرْضَ  فِى  سِتَّةِ  أَيَّامٍ  ثُمَّ  ٱسْتَوَىٰ  عَلَى  ٱلْعَرْشِ  يُدَبِّرُ  ٱلْأَمْرَ  مَا  مِن  شَفِيعٍ  إِلَّا  مِنۢ  بَعْدِ  إِذْنِهِۦ  ذَٰلِكُمُ  ٱللَّـهُ  رَبُّكُمْ  فَٱعْبُدُوهُ  أَفَلَا  تَذَكَّرُونَ inna rabbakumu allāhu alladhī khalaqa l‑samāwāti wa‑l‑arḍa sittati ayyāmin thumma istawā ʿalā l‑ʿarshi yudabbiru l‑amra min shafīʿin illā min baʿdi idhnihi dhālikumu allāhu rabbukum fa‑iʿbudūhu a‑fa‑lā tadhakkarūna
Verily your Lord is Allah, who created the heavens and the earth in six days, and is firmly established on the throne (of authority), regulating and governing all things. No intercessor (can plead with Him) except after His leave (hath been obtained). This is Allah your Lord; Him therefore serve ye: will ye not receive admonition?
(10:31)

قُلْ  مَن  يَرْزُقُكُم  مِّنَ  ٱلسَّمَآءِ  وَٱلْأَرْضِ  أَمَّن  يَمْلِكُ  ٱلسَّمْعَ  وَٱلْأَبْصَٰرَ  وَمَن  يُخْرِجُ  ٱلْحَىَّ  مِنَ  ٱلْمَيِّتِ  وَيُخْرِجُ  ٱلْمَيِّتَ  مِنَ  ٱلْحَىِّ  وَمَن  يُدَبِّرُ  ٱلْأَمْرَ  فَسَيَقُولُونَ  ٱللَّـهُ  فَقُلْ  أَفَلَا  تَتَّقُونَ qul man yarzuqukum mina l‑samāʾi wa‑l‑arḍi a‑man yamliku l‑samʿa wa‑l‑abṣāra wa‑man yukhriju l‑ḥayya mina l‑mayyiti wa‑yukhriju l‑mayyita mina l‑ḥayyi wa‑man yudabbiru l‑amra fa‑sa‑yaqūlūna allāhu fa‑qul a‑fa‑lā tattaqūna
Say: "Who is it that sustains you (in life) from the sky and from the earth? or who is it that has power over hearing and sight? And who is it that brings out the living from the dead and the dead from the living? and who is it that rules and regulates all affairs?" They will soon say, "Allah". Say, "will ye not then show piety (to Him)?"

Surah 12 Yūsuf (Joseph)
(12:25)

وَٱسْتَبَقَا  ٱلْبَابَ  وَقَدَّتْ  قَمِيصَهُۥ  مِن  دُبُرٍ  وَأَلْفَيَا  سَيِّدَهَا  لَدَا  ٱلْبَابِ  قَالَتْ  مَا  جَزَآءُ  مَنْ  أَرَادَ  بِأَهْلِكَ  سُوٓءًا  إِلَّآ  أَن  يُسْجَنَ  أَوْ  عَذَابٌ  أَلِيمٌ wa‑astabaqā l‑bāba wa‑qaddat qamīṣahu min duburin wa‑alfayā sayyidahā ladā l‑bābi qālat jazāʾu man arāda bi‑ahlika sūʾan illā an yusjana aw ʿadhābun alīmun
So they both raced each other to the door, and she tore his shirt from the back: they both found her lord near the door. She said: "What is the (fitting) punishment for one who formed an evil design against thy wife, but prison or a grievous chastisement?"
(12:27)

وَإِن  كَانَ  قَمِيصُهُۥ  قُدَّ  مِن  دُبُرٍ  فَكَذَبَتْ  وَهُوَ  مِنَ  ٱلصَّٰدِقِينَ wa‑in kāna qamīṣuhu qudda min duburin fa‑kadhabat wa‑huwa mina l‑ṣādiqīna
"But if it be that his shirt is torn from the back, then is she the liar, and he is telling the truth!"
(12:28)

فَلَمَّا  رَءَا  قَمِيصَهُۥ  قُدَّ  مِن  دُبُرٍ  قَالَ  إِنَّهُۥ  مِن  كَيْدِكُنَّ  إِنَّ  كَيْدَكُنَّ  عَظِيمٌ fa‑lammā raʾā qamīṣahu qudda min duburin qalā innahu min kaydikunna inna kaydakunna ʿaẓīmun
So when he saw his shirt,- that it was torn at the back,- (her husband) said: "Behold! It is a snare of you women! truly, mighty is your snare!

Surah 13 al-Raʿd (The Thunder)
(13:2)

ٱللَّـهُ  ٱلَّذِى  رَفَعَ  ٱلسَّمَٰوَٰتِ  بِغَيْرِ  عَمَدٍ  تَرَوْنَهَا  ثُمَّ  ٱسْتَوَىٰ  عَلَى  ٱلْعَرْشِ  وَسَخَّرَ  ٱلشَّمْسَ  وَٱلْقَمَرَ  كُلٌّ  يَجْرِى  لِأَجَلٍ  مُّسَمًّى  يُدَبِّرُ  ٱلْأَمْرَ  يُفَصِّلُ  ٱلْأَيَٰتِ  لَعَلَّكُم  بِلِقَآءِ  رَبِّكُمْ  تُوقِنُونَ allāhu alladhī rafaʿa l‑samāwāti bi‑ghayri ʿamadin tarawnahā thumma istawā ʿalā l‑ʿarshi wa‑sakhkhara l‑shamsa wa‑l‑qamara kullun yajrī li‑ajalin musamman yudabbiru l‑amra yufaṣṣilu l‑ayāti laʿallakum bi‑liqāʾi rabbikum tūqinūna
Allah is He Who raised the heavens without any pillars that ye can see; is firmly established on the throne (of authority); He has subjected the sun and the moon (to his Law)! Each one runs (its course) for a term appointed. He doth regulate all affairs, explaining the signs in detail, that ye may believe with certainty in the meeting with your Lord.

Surah 15 al-Ḥijr (The Rocky Tract)
(15:65)

فَأَسْرِ  بِأَهْلِكَ  بِقِطْعٍ  مِّنَ  ٱلَّيْلِ  وَٱتَّبِعْ  أَدْبَٰرَهُمْ  وَلَا  يَلْتَفِتْ  مِنكُمْ  أَحَدٌ  وَٱمْضُوا۟  حَيْثُ  تُؤْمَرُونَ fa‑asri bi‑ahlika bi‑qiṭʿin mina l‑layli wa‑ittabiʿ adbārahum wa‑lā yaltafit minkum aḥadun wa‑amḍū ḥaythu tuʾmarūna
"Then travel by night with thy household, when a portion of the night (yet remains), and do thou bring up the rear: let no one amongst you look back, but pass on whither ye are ordered."
(15:66)

وَقَضَيْنَآ  إِلَيْهِ  ذَٰلِكَ  ٱلْأَمْرَ  أَنَّ  دَابِرَ  هَٰٓؤُلَآءِ  مَقْطُوعٌ  مُّصْبِحِينَ wa‑qaḍaynā ilayhi dhālika l‑amra annā dābira hāʾulāʾi maqṭūʿun muṣbiḥīna
And We made known this decree to him, that the last remnants of those (sinners) should be cut off by the morning.

Surah 17 al-Isrāʾ (The Children of Israel)
(17:46)

وَجَعَلْنَا  عَلَىٰ  قُلُوبِهِمْ  أَكِنَّةً  أَن  يَفْقَهُوهُ  وَفِىٓ  ءَاذَانِهِمْ  وَقْرًا  وَإِذَا  ذَكَرْتَ  رَبَّكَ  فِى  ٱلْقُرْءَانِ  وَحْدَهُۥ  وَلَّوْا۟  عَلَىٰٓ  أَدْبَٰرِهِمْ  نُفُورًا wa‑jaʿalnā ʿalā qulūbihim akinnatan an yafqahūhu wa‑fī ādhānihim waqran wa‑idhā dhakarta rabbaka l‑qurʾāni waḥdahu wallaw ʿala adbārihim nufūran
And We put coverings over their hearts (and minds) lest they should understand the Qur'an, and deafness into their ears: when thou dost commemorate thy Lord and Him alone in the Qur'an, they turn on their backs, fleeing (from the Truth).

Surah 21 al-Anbiyāʾ (The Prophets)
(21:57)

وَتَٱللَّهِ  لَأَكِيدَنَّ  أَصْنَٰمَكُم  بَعْدَ  أَن  تُوَلُّوا۟  مُدْبِرِينَ wa‑ta‑llāhi la‑akīdanna aṣnāmakum baʿda an tuwallū mudbirīna
"And by Allah, I have a plan for your idols - after ye go away and turn your backs"..

Surah 23 al-Muʾminūn (The Believers)
(23:68)

أَفَلَمْ  يَدَّبَّرُوا۟  ٱلْقَوْلَ  أَمْ  جَآءَهُم  مَّا  لَمْ  يَأْتِ  ءَابَآءَهُمُ  ٱلْأَوَّلِينَ a‑fa‑lam yaddabbarū l‑qawla am jāʾahum lam yaʾti ābāahumu l‑awwalīna
Do they not ponder over the Word (of Allah), or has anything (new) come to them that did not come to their fathers of old?

Surah 27 al-Naml (The Ant)
(27:10)

وَأَلْقِ  عَصَاكَ  فَلَمَّا  رَءَاهَا  تَهْتَزُّ  كَأَنَّهَا  جَآنٌّ  وَلَّىٰ  مُدْبِرًا  وَلَمْ  يُعَقِّبْ  يَٰمُوسَىٰ  لَا  تَخَفْ  إِنِّى  لَا  يَخَافُ  لَدَىَّ  ٱلْمُرْسَلُونَ wa‑alqi ʿaṣāka fa‑lammā raʾāhā tahtazzu ka‑annahā jānnun walla mudbiran wa‑lam yuʿaqqib yā‑mūsā takhaf innī yakhāfu ladayya l‑mursalūna
"Now do thou throw thy rod!" But when he saw it moving (of its own accord)as if it had been a snake, he turned back in retreat, and retraced not his steps: "O Moses!" (it was said), "Fear not: truly, in My presence, those called as messengers have no fear,-
(27:80)

إِنَّكَ  لَا  تُسْمِعُ  ٱلْمَوْتَىٰ  وَلَا  تُسْمِعُ  ٱلصُّمَّ  ٱلدُّعَآءَ  إِذَا  وَلَّوْا۟  مُدْبِرِينَ innaka tusmiʿu l‑mawtā wa‑lā tusmiʿu l‑ṣumma l‑duʿāʾa idhā wallaw mudbirīna
Truly thou canst not cause the dead to listen, nor canst thou cause the deaf to hear the call, (especially) when they turn back in retreat.

Surah 28 al-Qaṣaṣ (The Narrative)
(28:31)

وَأَنْ  أَلْقِ  عَصَاكَ  فَلَمَّا  رَءَاهَا  تَهْتَزُّ  كَأَنَّهَا  جَآنٌّ  وَلَّىٰ  مُدْبِرًا  وَلَمْ  يُعَقِّبْ  يَٰمُوسَىٰٓ  أَقْبِلْ  وَلَا  تَخَفْ  إِنَّكَ  مِنَ  ٱلْأَمِنِينَ wa‑an alqi ʿaṣāka fa‑lammā raʾāhā tahtazzu ka‑annahā jānnun walla mudbiran wa‑lam yuʿaqqib yā‑mūsā aqbil wa‑lā takhaf innaka mina l‑aminīna
"Now do thou throw thy rod!" but when he saw it moving (of its own accord) as if it had been a snake, he turned back in retreat, and retraced not his steps: O Moses!" (It was said), "Draw near, and fear not: for thou art of those who are secure.

Surah 30 al-Rūm (The Romans)
(30:52)

فَإِنَّكَ  لَا  تُسْمِعُ  ٱلْمَوْتَىٰ  وَلَا  تُسْمِعُ  ٱلصُّمَّ  ٱلدُّعَآءَ  إِذَا  وَلَّوْا۟  مُدْبِرِينَ fa‑innaka tusmiʿu l‑mawtā wa‑lā tusmiʿu l‑ṣumma l‑duʿāʾa idhā wallaw mudbirīna
So verily thou canst not make the dead to hear, nor canst thou make the deaf to hear the call, when they show their backs and turn away.

Surah 32 al-Sajdah (The Adoration)
(32:5)

يُدَبِّرُ  ٱلْأَمْرَ  مِنَ  ٱلسَّمَآءِ  إِلَى  ٱلْأَرْضِ  ثُمَّ  يَعْرُجُ  إِلَيْهِ  فِى  يَوْمٍ  كَانَ  مِقْدَارُهُۥٓ  أَلْفَ  سَنَةٍ  مِّمَّا  تَعُدُّونَ yudabbiru l‑amra mina l‑samāʾi ilā l‑arḍi thumma yaʿruju ilayhi yawmin kāna miqdāruhu alfa sanatin mimmā taʿuddūna
He rules (all) affairs from the heavens to the earth: in the end will (all affairs) go up to Him, on a Day, the space whereof will be (as) a thousand years of your reckoning.

Surah 37 al-Ṣaffāt (The Rangers)
(37:90)

فَتَوَلَّوْا۟  عَنْهُ  مُدْبِرِينَ fatawallaw ʿanhu mudbirīna
So they turned away from him, and departed.

Surah 38 Ṣād (Sad)
(38:29)

كِتَٰبٌ  أَنزَلْنَٰهُ  إِلَيْكَ  مُبَٰرَكٌ  لِّيَدَّبَّرُوٓا۟  ءَايَٰتِهِۦ  وَلِيَتَذَكَّرَ  أُو۟لُوا۟  ٱلْأَلْبَٰبِ kitābun anzalnāhu ilayka mubārakun li‑yaddabbarū āyātihi wa‑li‑yatadhakkara ūlū l‑albābi
(Here is) a Book which We have sent down unto thee, full of blessings, that they may mediate on its Signs, and that men of understanding may receive admonition.

Surah 40 al-Ghāfir (The Forgiving One)
(40:33)

يَوْمَ  تُوَلُّونَ  مُدْبِرِينَ  مَا  لَكُم  مِّنَ  ٱللَّـهِ  مِنْ  عَاصِمٍ  وَمَن  يُضْلِلِ  ٱللَّـهُ  فَمَا  لَهُۥ  مِنْ  هَادٍ yawma tuwallūna mudbirīna la‑kum mina allāhi min ʿāṣimin wa‑man yuḍlili allāhu fa‑mā lahu min hādin
"A Day when ye shall turn your backs and flee: No defender shall ye have from Allah: Any whom Allah leaves to stray, there is none to guide...

Surah 50 Qāf (Qaf)
(50:40)

وَمِنَ  ٱلَّيْلِ  فَسَبِّحْهُ  وَأَدْبَٰرَ  ٱلسُّجُودِ wa‑mina l‑layli fa‑sabbiḥhu wa‑adbāra l‑sujūdi
And during part of the night, (also,) celebrate His praises, and (so likewise) after the postures of adoration.

Surah 52 al-Ṭūr (The Mountain)
(52:49)

وَمِنَ  ٱلَّيْلِ  فَسَبِّحْهُ  وَإِدْبَٰرَ  ٱلنُّجُومِ wa‑mina l‑layli fa‑sabbiḥhu wa‑idbāra l‑nujūmi
And for part of the night also praise thou Him,- and at the retreat of the stars!

Surah 54 al-Qamar (The Moon)
(54:45)

سَيُهْزَمُ  ٱلْجَمْعُ  وَيُوَلُّونَ  ٱلدُّبُرَ sa‑yuhzamu l‑jamʿu wa‑yuwallūna l‑dubura
Soon will their multitude be put to flight, and they will show their backs.

Surah 70 al-Maʿārij (The Ladders)
(70:17)

تَدْعُوا۟  مَنْ  أَدْبَرَ  وَتَوَلَّىٰ tadʿū man adbara wa‑tawallā
Inviting (all) such as turn their backs and turn away their faces (from the Right).

Surah 74 al-Muddaththir (The Clothed One)
(74:23)

ثُمَّ  أَدْبَرَ  وَٱسْتَكْبَرَ thumma adbara wa‑istakbara
Then he turned back and was haughty;
(74:33)

وَٱلَّيْلِ  إِذْ  أَدْبَرَ wa‑l‑layli idh adbara
And by the Night as it retreateth,

Surah 79 al-Nāziʿāt (Those Who Pull Out)
(79:5)

فَٱلْمُدَبِّرَٰتِ  أَمْرًا fa‑l‑mudabbirāti amran
Then arrange to do (the Commands of their Lord),
(79:22)

ثُمَّ  أَدْبَرَ  يَسْعَىٰ thumma adbara yasʿā
Further, he turned his back, striving hard (against Allah).
