Sura al-Mumtaḥanah 60:1

يَٰٓأَيُّهَا ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوا۟ لَا تَتَّخِذُوا۟ عَدُوِّى وَعَدُوَّكُمْ أَوْلِيَآءَ تُلْقُونَ إِلَيْهِم بِٱلْمَوَدَّةِ وَقَدْ كَفَرُوا۟ بِمَا جَآءَكُم مِّنَ ٱلْحَقِّ يُخْرِجُونَ ٱلرَّسُولَ وَإِيَّاكُمْ أَن تُؤْمِنُوا۟ بِٱللَّـهِ رَبِّكُمْ إِن كُنتُمْ خَرَجْتُمْ جِهَٰدًا فِى سَبِيلِى وَٱبْتِغَآءَ مَرْضَاتِى تُسِرُّونَ إِلَيْهِم بِٱلْمَوَدَّةِ وَأَنَا۠ أَعْلَمُ بِمَآ أَخْفَيْتُمْ وَمَآ أَعْلَنتُمْ وَمَن يَفْعَلْهُ مِنكُمْ فَقَدْ ضَلَّ سَوَآءَ ٱلسَّبِيلِ

yā-ayyuhā lladhīna āmanū lā tattakhidhū ʿaduwwī wa-ʿaduwwakum awliyāʾa tulqūna ilayhim bil-mawaddati wa-qad kafarū bi-mā jāʾakum mina l-ḥaqqi yukhrijūna l-rasūla wa-iyyākum an tūʾminū billāhi rabbikum in kuntum kharajtum jihādan fī sabīlī wa-ibtighāʾa marḍātī tusirrūna ilayhim bil-mawaddati wa-anā aʿlamu bimā akhfaytum wa-mā aʿlantum wa-man yafʿalhu minkum fa-qad ḍalla sawāʾa l-sabīli

O ye who believe! Take not my enemies and yours as friends (or protectors),- offering them (your) love, even though they have rejected the Truth that has come to you, and have (on the contrary) driven out the Prophet and yourselves (from your homes), (simply) because ye believe in Allah your Lord! If ye have come out to strive in My Way and to seek My Good Pleasure, (take them not as friends), holding secret converse of love (and friendship) with them: for I know full well all that ye conceal and all that ye reveal. And any of you that does this has strayed from the Straight Path.

Sura al-Mumtaḥanah 60:3

لَن تَنفَعَكُمْ أَرْحَامُكُمْ وَلَآ أَوْلَٰدُكُمْ يَوْمَ ٱلْقِيَٰمَةِ يَفْصِلُ بَيْنَكُمْ وَٱللَّـهُ بِمَا تَعْمَلُونَ بَصِيرٌ

lan tanfaʿakum arḥāmukum wa-lā awlādukum yawma l-qiyāmati yafṣilu baynakum wallāhu bi-mā taʿmalūna baṣīrun

Of no profit to you will be your relatives and your children on the Day of Judgment: He will judge between you: for Allah sees well all that ye do.

Sura al-Mumtaḥanah 60:4

قَدْ كَانَتْ لَكُمْ أُسْوَةٌ حَسَنَةٌ فِىٓ إِبْرَٰهِيمَ وَٱلَّذِينَ مَعَهُۥٓ إِذْ قَالُوا۟ لِقَوْمِهِمْ إِنَّا بُرَءَٰٓؤُا۟ مِنكُمْ وَمِمَّا تَعْبُدُونَ مِن دُونِ ٱللَّـهِ كَفَرْنَا بِكُمْ وَبَدَا بَيْنَنَا وَبَيْنَكُمُ ٱلْعَدَٰوَةُ وَٱلْبَغْضَآءُ أَبَدًا حَتَّىٰ تُؤْمِنُوا۟ بِٱللَّـهِ وَحْدَهُۥٓ إِلَّا قَوْلَ إِبْرَٰهِيمَ لِأَبِيهِ لَأَسْتَغْفِرَنَّ لَكَ وَمَآ أَمْلِكُ لَكَ مِنَ ٱللَّـهِ مِن شَىْءٍ رَّبَّنَا عَلَيْكَ تَوَكَّلْنَا وَإِلَيْكَ أَنَبْنَا وَإِلَيْكَ ٱلْمَصِيرُ

qad kānat la-kum uswatun ḥasanatun fī ibrāhīma wa-lladhīna maʿahu idh qālū liqawmihim innā buraʾāʾu minkum wa-mimmā taʿbudūna min dūni allāhi kafarnā bikum wa-badā baynanā wa-baynakumu l-ʿadāwatu wa-l-baghḍāʾu abadan ḥattā tūʾminū billāhi waḥdahu illā qawla ibrāhīma li-abīhi la-astaghfiranna la-ka wa-mā amliku la-ka mina allāhi min shayʾin rabbanā ʿalayka tawakkalnā wa-ilayka anabnā wa-ilayka l-maṣīru

There is for you an excellent example (to follow) in Abraham and those with him, when they said to their people: "We are clear of you and of whatever ye worship besides Allah: we have rejected you, and there has arisen, between us and you, enmity and hatred for ever,- unless ye believe in Allah and Him alone": But not when Abraham said to his father: "I will pray for forgiveness for thee, though I have no power (to get) aught on thy behalf from Allah." (They prayed): "Our Lord! in Thee do we trust, and to Thee do we turn in repentance: to Thee is (our) Final Goal.

Sura al-Mumtaḥanah 60:6

لَقَدْ كَانَ لَكُمْ فِيهِمْ أُسْوَةٌ حَسَنَةٌ لِّمَن كَانَ يَرْجُوا۟ ٱللَّـهَ وَٱلْيَوْمَ ٱلْأََخِرَ وَمَن يَتَوَلَّ فَإِنَّ ٱللَّـهَ هُوَ ٱلْغَنِىُّ ٱلْحَمِيدُ

la-qad kāna la-kum fīhim uswatun ḥasanatun lliman kāna yarjū allāha wa-l-yawma l-akhira wa-man yatawalla fa-inna allāha huwa l-ghaniyyu l-ḥamīdu

There was indeed in them an excellent example for you to follow,- for those whose hope is in Allah and in the Last Day. But if any turn away, truly Allah is Free of all Wants, Worthy of all Praise.

Sura al-Mumtaḥanah 60:7

عَسَى ٱللَّـهُ أَن يَجْعَلَ بَيْنَكُمْ وَبَيْنَ ٱلَّذِينَ عَادَيْتُم مِّنْهُم مَّوَدَّةً وَٱللَّـهُ قَدِيرٌ وَٱللَّـهُ غَفُورٌ رَّحِيمٌ

ʿasā allāhu an yajʿala baynakum wa-bayna lladhīna ʿādaytum minhum mawaddatan wallāhu qadīrun wallāhu ghafūrun raḥīmun

It may be that Allah will grant love (and friendship) between you and those whom ye (now) hold as enemies. For Allah has power (over all things); And Allah is Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful.

Sura al-Mumtaḥanah 60:8

لَّا يَنْهَىٰكُمُ ٱللَّـهُ عَنِ ٱلَّذِينَ لَمْ يُقَٰتِلُوكُمْ فِى ٱلدِّينِ وَلَمْ يُخْرِجُوكُم مِّن دِيَٰرِكُمْ أَن تَبَرُّوهُمْ وَتُقْسِطُوٓا۟ إِلَيْهِمْ إِنَّ ٱللَّـهَ يُحِبُّ ٱلْمُقْسِطِينَ

lā yanhākumu allāhu ʿani lladhīna lam yuqātilūkum fī l-dīni wa-lam yukhrijūkum min diyārikum an tabarrūhum wa-tuqsiṭū ilayhim inna allāha yuḥibbu l-muqsiṭīna

Allah forbids you not, with regard to those who fight you not for (your) Faith nor drive you out of your homes, from dealing kindly and justly with them: for Allah loveth those who are just.

Sura al-Mumtaḥanah 60:9

إِنَّمَا يَنْهَىٰكُمُ ٱللَّـهُ عَنِ ٱلَّذِينَ قَٰتَلُوكُمْ فِى ٱلدِّينِ وَأَخْرَجُوكُم مِّن دِيَٰرِكُمْ وَظَٰهَرُوا۟ عَلَىٰٓ إِخْرَاجِكُمْ أَن تَوَلَّوْهُمْ وَمَن يَتَوَلَّهُمْ فَأُو۟لَٰٓئِكَ هُمُ ٱلظَّٰلِمُونَ

innamā yanhākumu allāhu ʿani lladhīna qātalūkum fī l-dīni wa-akhrajūkum min diyārikum wa-ẓāharū ʿala ikhrājikum an tawallawhum wa-man yatawallahum fa-ūlāʾika humu l-ẓālimūna

Allah only forbids you, with regard to those who fight you for (your) Faith, and drive you out of your homes, and support (others) in driving you out, from turning to them (for friendship and protection). It is such as turn to them (in these circumstances), that do wrong.

Sura al-Mumtaḥanah 60:10

يَٰٓأَيُّهَا ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوٓا۟ إِذَا جَآءَكُمُ ٱلْمُؤْمِنَٰتُ مُهَٰجِرَٰتٍ فَٱمْتَحِنُوهُنَّ ٱللَّـهُ أَعْلَمُ بِإِيمَٰنِهِنَّ فَإِنْ عَلِمْتُمُوهُنَّ مُؤْمِنَٰتٍ فَلَا تَرْجِعُوهُنَّ إِلَى ٱلْكُفَّارِ لَا هُنَّ حِلٌّ لَّهُمْ وَلَا هُمْ يَحِلُّونَ لَهُنَّ وَءَاتُوهُم مَّآ أَنفَقُوا۟ وَلَا جُنَاحَ عَلَيْكُمْ أَن تَنكِحُوهُنَّ إِذَآ ءَاتَيْتُمُوهُنَّ أُجُورَهُنَّ وَلَا تُمْسِكُوا۟ بِعِصَمِ ٱلْكَوَافِرِ وَسْـَٔلُوا۟ مَآ أَنفَقْتُمْ وَلْيَسْـَٔلُوا۟ مَآ أَنفَقُوا۟ ذَٰلِكُمْ حُكْمُ ٱللَّـهِ يَحْكُمُ بَيْنَكُمْ وَٱللَّـهُ عَلِيمٌ حَكِيمٌ

yā-ayyuhā lladhīna āmanū idhā jāakumu l-muʾminātu muhājirātin famtaḥinūhunna allāhu aʿlamu biīmānihinna fa-in ʿalimtumūhunna muminatin fa-lā tarjiʿūhunna ilā l-kuffāri lā hunna ḥillun lahum wa-lā hum yaḥillūna la-hunna wa-ātūhum mā anfaqū wa-lā junāḥa ʿalaykum an tankiḥūhunna idhā ātaytumūhunna ujūrahunna wa-lā tumsikū biʿiṣami l-kawāfiri wa-salū mā anfaqtum wa-l-yasʾalū mā anfaqū dhālikum ḥukmu allāhi yaḥkumu baynakum wallāhu ʿalīmun ḥakīmun

O ye who believe! When there come to you believing women refugees, examine (and test) them: Allah knows best as to their Faith: if ye ascertain that they are Believers, then send them not back to the Unbelievers. They are not lawful (wives) for the Unbelievers, nor are the (Unbelievers) lawful (husbands) for them. But pay the Unbelievers what they have spent (on their dower), and there will be no blame on you if ye marry them on payment of their dower to them. But hold not to the guardianship of unbelieving women: ask for what ye have spent on their dowers, and let the (Unbelievers) ask for what they have spent (on the dowers of women who come over to you). Such is the command of Allah: He judges (with justice) between you. And Allah is Full of Knowledge and Wisdom.

Sura al-Mumtaḥanah 60:11

وَإِن فَاتَكُمْ شَىْءٌ مِّنْ أَزْوَٰجِكُمْ إِلَى ٱلْكُفَّارِ فَعَاقَبْتُمْ فَـَٔاتُوا۟ ٱلَّذِينَ ذَهَبَتْ أَزْوَٰجُهُم مِّثْلَ مَآ أَنفَقُوا۟ وَٱتَّقُوا۟ ٱللَّـهَ ٱلَّذِىٓ أَنتُم بِهِۦ مُؤْمِنُونَ

wa-in fātakum shayʾun min azwājikum ilā l-kuffāri fa-ʿāqabtum fa-ātū lladhīna dhahabat azwājuhum mithla mā anfaqū wattaqū allāha alladhī antum bihi muʾminūna

And if any of your wives deserts you to the Unbelievers, and ye have an accession (by the coming over of a woman from the other side), then pay to those whose wives have deserted the equivalent of what they had spent (on their dower). And fear Allah, in Whom ye believe.

Sura al-Mumtaḥanah 60:12

يَٰٓأَيُّهَا ٱلنَّبِىُّ إِذَا جَآءَكَ ٱلْمُؤْمِنَٰتُ يُبَايِعْنَكَ عَلَىٰٓ أَن لَّا يُشْرِكْنَ بِٱللَّـهِ شَيْـًٔا وَلَا يَسْرِقْنَ وَلَا يَزْنِينَ وَلَا يَقْتُلْنَ أَوْلَٰدَهُنَّ وَلَا يَأْتِينَ بِبُهْتَٰنٍ يَفْتَرِينَهُۥ بَيْنَ أَيْدِيهِنَّ وَأَرْجُلِهِنَّ وَلَا يَعْصِينَكَ فِى مَعْرُوفٍ فَبَايِعْهُنَّ وَٱسْتَغْفِرْ لَهُنَّ ٱللَّـهَ إِنَّ ٱللَّـهَ غَفُورٌ رَّحِيمٌ

yā-ayyuhā l-nabiyyu idhā jāʾaka l-muʾminātu yubāyiʿnaka ʿala an lā yushrikna billāhi shayʾan wa-lā yasriqna wa-lā yaznīna wa-lā yaqtulna awlādahunna wa-lā yaʾtīna bi-buhtānin yaftarīnahu bayna aydīhinna wa-arjulihinna wa-lā yaʿṣīnaka fī maʿrūfin fa-bāyiʿhunna wa-istaghfir la-hunna allāha inna allāha ghafūrun raḥīmun

O Prophet! When believing women come to thee to take the oath of fealty to thee, that they will not associate in worship any other thing whatever with Allah, that they will not steal, that they will not commit adultery (or fornication), that they will not kill their children, that they will not utter slander, intentionally forging falsehood, and that they will not disobey thee in any just matter,- then do thou receive their fealty, and pray to Allah for the forgiveness (of their sins): for Allah is Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful.

Sura al-Mumtaḥanah 60:13

يَٰٓأَيُّهَا ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوا۟ لَا تَتَوَلَّوْا۟ قَوْمًا غَضِبَ ٱللَّـهُ عَلَيْهِمْ قَدْ يَئِسُوا۟ مِنَ ٱلْأَخِرَةِ كَمَا يَئِسَ ٱلْكُفَّارُ مِنْ أَصْحَٰبِ ٱلْقُبُورِ

yā-ayyuhā lladhīna āmanū lā tatawallaw qawman ghaḍiba allāhu ʿalayhim qad yaʾisū mina l-akhirati ka-mā yaʾisa l-kuffāru min aṣḥābi l-qubūri

O ye who believe! Turn not (for friendship) to people on whom is the Wrath of Allah, of the Hereafter they are already in despair, just as the Unbelievers are in despair about those (buried) in graves.
