Surah 2 al-Baqara (The Cow)
RefArabic    TransliterationTranslation
(2:23)

وَإِن  كُنتُمْ  فِى  رَيْبٍ  مِّمَّا  نَزَّلْنَا  عَلَىٰ  عَبْدِنَا  فَأْتُوا۟  بِسُورَةٍ  مِّن  مِّثْلِهِۦ  وَٱدْعُوا۟  شُهَدَآءَكُم  مِّن  دُونِ  ٱللَّـهِ  إِن  كُنتُمْ  صَٰدِقِينَ wa‑in kuntum raybin mimmā nazzalnā ʿalā ʿabdinā fa‑ʾtū bi‑sūratin min mithlihi wa‑idʿū shuhadāʾakum min dūni allāhi in kuntum ṣādiqīna
And if ye are in doubt as to what We have revealed from time to time to Our servant, then produce a Sura like thereunto; and call your witnesses or helpers (If there are any) besides Allah, if your (doubts) are true.
(2:43)

وَأَقِيمُوا۟  ٱلصَّلَوٰةَ  وَءَاتُوا۟  ٱلزَّكَوٰةَ  وَٱرْكَعُوا۟  مَعَ  ٱلرَّٰكِعِينَ wa‑aqīmū l‑ṣalāta wa‑ātū l‑zakāta wa‑arkaʿū maʿa l‑rākiʿīna
And be steadfast in prayer; practise regular charity; and bow down your heads with those who bow down (in worship).
(2:83)

And remember We took a covenant from the Children of Israel (to this effect): Worship none but Allah; treat with kindness your parents and kindred, and orphans and those in need; speak fair to the people; be steadfast in prayer; and practise regular charity. Then did ye turn back, except a few among you, and ye backslide (even now).
(2:110)

And be steadfast in prayer and regular in charity: And whatever good ye send forth for your souls before you, ye shall find it with Allah: for Allah sees Well all that ye do.
(2:145)

وَلَئِنْ  أَتَيْتَ  ٱلَّذِينَ  أُوتُوا۟  ٱلْكِتَٰبَ  بِكُلِّ  ءَايَةٍ  مَّا  تَبِعُوا۟  قِبْلَتَكَ  وَمَآ  أَنتَ  بِتَابِعٍ  قِبْلَتَهُمْ  وَمَا  بَعْضُهُم  بِتَابِعٍ  قِبْلَةَ  بَعْضٍ  وَلَئِنِ  ٱتَّبَعْتَ  أَهْوَآءَهُم  مِّنۢ  بَعْدِ  مَا  جَآءَكَ  مِنَ  ٱلْعِلْمِ  إِنَّكَ  إِذًا  لَّمِنَ  ٱلظَّٰلِمِينَ wa‑laʾin atayta lladhīna ūtū l‑kitāba bi‑kulli āyatin tabiʿū qiblataka wa‑mā anta bitābiʿin qiblatahum wa‑mā baʿḍuhum bitābiʿin qiblata baʿḍin wa‑laʾini ittabaʿta ahwāʾahum min baʿdi jāʾaka mina l‑ʿilmi innaka idhan la‑mina l‑ẓālimīna
Even if thou wert to bring to the people of the Book all the Signs (together), they would not follow Thy Qibla; nor art thou going to follow their Qibla; nor indeed will they follow each other's Qibla. If thou after the knowledge hath reached thee, Wert to follow their (vain) desires,-then wert thou Indeed (clearly) in the wrong.
(2:189)

يَسْـَٔلُونَكَ  عَنِ  ٱلْأَهِلَّةِ  قُلْ  هِىَ  مَوَٰقِيتُ  لِلنَّاسِ  وَٱلْحَجِّ  وَلَيْسَ  ٱلْبِرُّ  بِأَن  تَأْتُوا۟  ٱلْبُيُوتَ  مِن  ظُهُورِهَا  وَلَٰكِنَّ  ٱلْبِرَّ  مَنِ  ٱتَّقَىٰ  وَأْتُوا۟  ٱلْبُيُوتَ  مِنْ  أَبْوَٰبِهَا  وَٱتَّقُوا۟  ٱللَّـهَ  لَعَلَّكُمْ  تُفْلِحُونَ yasʾalūnaka ʿani l‑ahillati qul hiya mawāqītu lil‑nāsi wa‑l‑ḥajji walaysa l‑birru bi‑an taʾtū l‑buyūta min ẓuhūrihā wa‑lākinna l‑birra mani ittaqā wa‑ʾtū l‑buyūta min abwābihā wa‑ittaqū allāha la‑ʿallakum tufliḥūna
They ask thee concerning the New Moons. Say: They are but signs to mark fixed periods of time in (the affairs of) men, and for Pilgrimage. It is no virtue if ye enter your houses from the back: It is virtue if ye fear Allah. Enter houses through the proper doors: And fear Allah: That ye may prosper.
(2:200)

فَإِذَا  قَضَيْتُم  مَّنَٰسِكَكُمْ  فَٱذْكُرُوا۟  ٱللَّـهَ  كَذِكْرِكُمْ  ءَابَآءَكُمْ  أَوْ  أَشَدَّ  ذِكْرًا  فَمِنَ  ٱلنَّاسِ  مَن  يَقُولُ  رَبَّنَآ  ءَاتِنَا  فِى  ٱلدُّنْيَا  وَمَا  لَهُۥ  فِى  ٱلْأَخِرَةِ  مِنْ  خَلَٰقٍ fa‑idhā qaḍaytum manāsikakum fa‑idhkurū allāha kadhikrikum ābāʾakum aw ashadda dhikran fa‑mina l‑nāsi man yaqūlu rabbanā ātinā l‑dunyā wa‑mā lahu l‑akhirati min khalāqin
So when ye have accomplished your holy rites, celebrate the praises of Allah, as ye used to celebrate the praises of your fathers,- yea, with far more Heart and soul. There are men who say: "Our Lord! Give us (Thy bounties) in this world!" but they will have no portion in the Hereafter.
(2:201)

وَمِنْهُم  مَّن  يَقُولُ  رَبَّنَآ  ءَاتِنَا  فِى  ٱلدُّنْيَا  حَسَنَةً  وَفِى  ٱلْأَخِرَةِ  حَسَنَةً  وَقِنَا  عَذَابَ  ٱلنَّارِ wa‑minhum man yaqūlu rabbanā ātinā l‑dunyā ḥasanatan wa‑fī l‑akhirati ḥasanatan wa‑qinā ʿadhāba l‑nāri
And there are men who say: "Our Lord! Give us good in this world and good in the Hereafter, and defend us from the torment of the Fire!"
(2:222)

وَيَسْـَٔلُونَكَ  عَنِ  ٱلْمَحِيضِ  قُلْ  هُوَ  أَذًى  فَٱعْتَزِلُوا۟  ٱلنِّسَآءَ  فِى  ٱلْمَحِيضِ  وَلَا  تَقْرَبُوهُنَّ  حَتَّىٰ  يَطْهُرْنَ  فَإِذَا  تَطَهَّرْنَ  فَأْتُوهُنَّ  مِنْ  حَيْثُ  أَمَرَكُمُ  ٱللَّـهُ  إِنَّ  ٱللَّـهَ  يُحِبُّ  ٱلتَّوَّٰبِينَ  وَيُحِبُّ  ٱلْمُتَطَهِّرِينَ wa‑yasʾalūnaka ʿani l‑maḥīḍi qul huwa adhan faʿtazilū l‑nisāʾa l‑maḥīḍi wa‑lā taqrabūhunna ḥattā yaṭhurna fa‑idhā taṭahharna fatūhunna min ḥaythu amarakumu allāhu inna allāha yuḥibbu l‑tawwābīna wa‑yuḥibbu l‑mutaṭahhirīna
They ask thee concerning women's courses. Say: They are a hurt and a pollution: So keep away from women in their courses, and do not approach them until they are clean. But when they have purified themselves, ye may approach them in any manner, time, or place ordained for you by Allah. For Allah loves those who turn to Him constantly and He loves those who keep themselves pure and clean.
(2:223)

نِسَآؤُكُمْ  حَرْثٌ  لَّكُمْ  فَأْتُوا۟  حَرْثَكُمْ  أَنَّىٰ  شِئْتُمْ  وَقَدِّمُوا۟  لِأَنفُسِكُمْ  وَٱتَّقُوا۟  ٱللَّـهَ  وَٱعْلَمُوٓا۟  أَنَّكُم  مُّلَٰقُوهُ  وَبَشِّرِ  ٱلْمُؤْمِنِينَ nisāʾukum ḥarthun la‑kum fa‑ʾtū ḥarthakum annā shiʾtum wa‑qaddimū li‑anfusikum wa‑ittaqū allāha wa‑iʿlamū annakum mulāqūhu wa‑bashshiri l‑muʾminīna
Your wives are as a tilth unto you; so approach your tilth when or how ye will; but do some good act for your souls beforehand; and fear Allah. And know that ye are to meet Him (in the Hereafter), and give (these) good tidings to those who believe.
(2:229)

A divorce is only permissible twice: after that, the parties should either hold Together on equitable terms, or separate with kindness. It is not lawful for you, (Men), to take back any of your gifts (from your wives), except when both parties fear that they would be unable to keep the limits ordained by Allah. If ye (judges) do indeed fear that they would be unable to keep the limits ordained by Allah, there is no blame on either of them if she give something for her freedom. These are the limits ordained by Allah; so do not transgress them if any do transgress the limits ordained by Allah, such persons wrong (Themselves as well as others).

The mothers shall give such to their offspring for two whole years, if the father desires to complete the term. But he shall bear the cost of their food and clothing on equitable terms. No soul shall have a burden laid on it greater than it can bear. No mother shall be Treated unfairly on account of her child. Nor father on account of his child, an heir shall be chargeable in the same way. If they both decide on weaning, by mutual consent, and after due consultation, there is no blame on them. If ye decide on a foster-mother for your offspring, there is no blame on you, provided ye pay (the mother) what ye offered, on equitable terms. But fear Allah and know that Allah sees well what ye do.

Hast thou not Turned thy vision to one who disputed with Abraham About his Lord, because Allah had granted him power? Abraham said: "My Lord is He Who Giveth life and death." He said: "I give life and death". Said Abraham: "But it is Allah that causeth the sun to rise from the east: Do thou then cause him to rise from the West." Thus was he confounded who (in arrogance) rejected faith. Nor doth Allah Give guidance to a people unjust.

If ye disclose (acts of) charity, even so it is well, but if ye conceal them, and make them reach those (really) in need, that is best for you: It will remove from you some of your (stains of) evil. And Allah is well acquainted with what ye do.

O ye who believe! Ye are forbidden to inherit women against their will. Nor should ye treat them with harshness, that ye may Take away part of the dower ye have given them,-except where they have been guilty of open lewdness; on the contrary live with them on a footing of kindness and equity. If ye take a dislike to them it may be that ye dislike a thing, and Allah brings about through it a great deal of good.

If any of you have not the means wherewith to wed free believing women, they may wed believing girls from among those whom your right hands possess: And Allah hath full knowledge about your faith. Ye are one from another: Wed them with the leave of their owners, and give them their dowers, according to what is reasonable: They should be chaste, not lustful, nor taking paramours: when they are taken in wedlock, if they fall into shame, their punishment is half that for free women. This (permission) is for those among you who fear sin; but it is better for you that ye practise self-restraint. And Allah is Oft-forgiving, Most Merciful.

O Messenger! let not those grieve thee, who race each other into unbelief: (whether it be) among those who say "We believe" with their lips but whose hearts have no faith; or it be among the Jews,- men who will listen to any lie,- will listen even to others who have never so much as come to thee. They change the words from their (right) times and places: they say, "If ye are given this, take it, but if not, beware!" If any one's trial is intended by Allah, thou hast no authority in the least for him against Allah. For such - it is not Allah's will to purify their hearts. For them there is disgrace in this world, and in the Hereafter a heavy punishment.

Every time a new people enters, it curses its sister-people (that went before), until they follow each other, all into the Fire. Saith the last about the first: "Our Lord! it is these that misled us: so give them a double penalty in the Fire." He will say: "Doubled for all" : but this ye do not understand.
(7:70)

قَالُوٓا۟  أَجِئْتَنَا  لِنَعْبُدَ  ٱللَّـهَ  وَحْدَهُۥ  وَنَذَرَ  مَا  كَانَ  يَعْبُدُ  ءَابَآؤُنَا  فَأْتِنَا  بِمَا  تَعِدُنَآ  إِن  كُنتَ  مِنَ  ٱلصَّٰدِقِينَ qālū a‑jiʾtanā li‑naʿbuda allāha waḥdahu wa‑nadhara kāna yaʿbudu ābāʾunā fa‑ʾtinā bi‑mā taʿidunā in kunta mina l‑ṣādiqīna
They said: "Comest thou to us, that we may worship Allah alone, and give up the cult of our fathers? bring us what thou threatenest us with, if so be that thou tellest the truth!"
(7:77)

فَعَقَرُوا۟  ٱلنَّاقَةَ  وَعَتَوْا۟  عَنْ  أَمْرِ  رَبِّهِمْ  وَقَالُوا۟  يَٰصَٰلِحُ  ٱئْتِنَا  بِمَا  تَعِدُنَآ  إِن  كُنتَ  مِنَ  ٱلْمُرْسَلِينَ faʿaqarū l‑nāqata wa‑ʿataw ʿan amri rabbihim wa‑qālū yāṣāliḥu iʾtinā bi‑mā taʿidunā in kunta mina l‑mursalīna
Then they ham-strung the she-camel, and insolently defied the order of their Lord, saying: "O Salih! bring about thy threats, if thou art a messenger (of Allah)!"
(7:80)

وَلُوطًا  إِذْ  قَالَ  لِقَوْمِهِۦٓ  أَتَأْتُونَ  ٱلْفَٰحِشَةَ  مَا  سَبَقَكُم  بِهَا  مِنْ  أَحَدٍ  مِّنَ  ٱلْعَٰلَمِينَ wa‑lūṭan idh qalā li‑qawmihi a‑taʾtūna l‑fāḥishata sabaqakum bihā min aḥadin mina l‑ʿālamīna

(Pharaoh) said: "If indeed thou hast come with a Sign, show it forth,- if thou tellest the truth."
(7:129)

قَالُوٓا۟  أُوذِينَا  مِن  قَبْلِ  أَن  تَأْتِيَنَا  وَمِنۢ  بَعْدِ  مَا  جِئْتَنَا  قَالَ  عَسَىٰ  رَبُّكُمْ  أَن  يُهْلِكَ  عَدُوَّكُمْ  وَيَسْتَخْلِفَكُمْ  فِى  ٱلْأَرْضِ  فَيَنظُرَ  كَيْفَ  تَعْمَلُونَ qālū ūdhīnā min qabli an tatīanā wa‑min baʿdi jitanā qalā ʿasā rabbukum an yuhlika ʿadūwakum wa‑yastakhlifakum l‑arḍi fa‑yanẓura kayfa taʿmalūna
They said: "We have had (nothing but) trouble, both before and after thou camest to us." He said: "It may be that your Lord will destroy your enemy and make you inheritors in the earth; that so He may try you by your deeds."
(7:132)

They said (to Moses): "Whatever be the Signs thou bringest, to work therewith thy sorcery on us, we shall never believe in thee.
(7:189)

It is He Who created you from a single person, and made his mate of like nature, in order that he might dwell with her (in love). When they are united, she bears a light burden and carries it about (unnoticed). When she grows heavy, they both pray to Allah their Lord, (saying): "If Thou givest us a goodly child, we vow we shall (ever) be grateful."
(7:203)

Surah 8 al-Anfāl (The Spoils of War)
(8:32)

وَإِذْ  قَالُوا۟  ٱللَّهُمَّ  إِن  كَانَ  هَٰذَا  هُوَ  ٱلْحَقَّ  مِنْ  عِندِكَ  فَأَمْطِرْ  عَلَيْنَا  حِجَارَةً  مِّنَ  ٱلسَّمَآءِ  أَوِ  ٱئْتِنَا  بِعَذَابٍ  أَلِيمٍ wa‑idh qālū l‑lahumma in kāna hādhā huwa l‑ḥaqqa min ʿindika faamṭir ʿalaynā ḥijāratan mina l‑samāʾi awi iʾtinā bi‑ʿadhābin alīmin
Remember how they said: "O Allah if this is indeed the Truth from Thee, rain down on us a shower of stones form the sky, or send us a grievous penalty."

Surah 10 Yūnus (Jonah)
(10:15)

وَإِذَا  تُتْلَىٰ  عَلَيْهِمْ  ءَايَاتُنَا  بَيِّنَٰتٍ  قَالَ  ٱلَّذِينَ  لَا  يَرْجُونَ  لِقَآءَنَا  ٱئْتِ  بِقُرْءَانٍ  غَيْرِ  هَٰذَآ  أَوْ  بَدِّلْهُ  قُلْ  مَا  يَكُونُ  لِىٓ  أَنْ  أُبَدِّلَهُۥ  مِن  تِلْقَآئِ  نَفْسِىٓ  إِنْ  أَتَّبِعُ  إِلَّا  مَا  يُوحَىٰٓ  إِلَىَّ  إِنِّىٓ  أَخَافُ  إِنْ  عَصَيْتُ  رَبِّى  عَذَابَ  يَوْمٍ  عَظِيمٍ wa‑idhā tutlā ʿalayhim āyātunā bayyinātin qalā lladhīna yarjūna liqāʾanā iʾti bi‑qurʾānin ghayri hādhā aw baddilhu qul yakūnu an ubaddilahu min tilqāʾi nafsī in attabiʿu illā yūḥā ilayya innī akhāfu in ʿaṣaytu rabbī ʿadhāba yawmin ʿaẓīmin
But when Our Clear Signs are rehearsed unto them, those who rest not their hope on their meeting with Us, Say: "Bring us a reading other than this, or change this," Say: "It is not for me, of my own accord, to change it: I follow naught but what is revealed unto me: if I were to disobey my Lord, I should myself fear the penalty of a Great Day (to come)."
(10:38)

Or do they say, "He forged it"? say: "Bring then a Sura like unto it, and call (to your aid) anyone you can besides Allah, if it be ye speak the truth!"
(10:79)

Said Pharaoh: "Bring me every sorcerer well versed."
(10:88)

Moses prayed: "Our Lord! Thou hast indeed bestowed on Pharaoh and his chiefs splendour and wealth in the life of the present, and so, Our Lord, they mislead (men) from Thy Path. Deface, our Lord, the features of their wealth, and send hardness to their hearts, so they will not believe until they see the grievous penalty."
