Sura Yūsuf 12:91

قَالُوا۟ تَٱللَّەِ لَقَدْ ءَاثَرَكَ ٱللَّـهُ عَلَيْنَا وَإِن كُنَّا لَخَٰطِـِٔينَ

qālū ta-allahi la-qad ātharaka allāhu ʿalaynā wa-in kunnā la-khāṭiʾīna

They said: "By Allah! indeed has Allah preferred thee above us, and we certainly have been guilty of sin!"

Sura Ṭā Hā 20:72

قَالُوا۟ لَن نُّؤْثِرَكَ عَلَىٰ مَا جَآءَنَا مِنَ ٱلْبَيِّنَٰتِ وَٱلَّذِى فَطَرَنَا فَٱقْضِ مَآ أَنتَ قَاضٍ إِنَّمَا تَقْضِى هَٰذِهِ ٱلْحَيَوٰةَ ٱلدُّنْيَآ

qālū lan nuʾthiraka ʿalā mā jāʾanā mina l-bayyināti wa-lladhī faṭaranā fa-iqḍi mā anta qāḍin innamā taqḍī hādhihi l-ḥayāta l-dunyā

They said: "Never shall we regard thee as more than the Clear Signs that have come to us, or than Him Who created us! so decree whatever thou desirest to decree: for thou canst only decree (touching) the life of this world.

Sura al-Ḥashr 59:9

وَٱلَّذِينَ تَبَوَّءُو ٱلدَّارَ وَٱلْإِيمَٰنَ مِن قَبْلِهِمْ يُحِبُّونَ مَنْ هَاجَرَ إِلَيْهِمْ وَلَا يَجِدُونَ فِى صُدُورِهِمْ حَاجَةً مِّمَّآ أُوتُوا۟ وَيُؤْثِرُونَ عَلَىٰٓ أَنفُسِهِمْ وَلَوْ كَانَ بِهِمْ خَصَاصَةٌ وَمَن يُوقَ شُحَّ نَفْسِهِۦ فَأُو۟لَٰٓئِكَ هُمُ ٱلْمُفْلِحُونَ

wa-lladhīna tabawwaū l-dāra wa-alīmāna min qablihim yuḥibbūna man hājara ilayhim wa-lā yajidūna fī ṣudūrihim ḥājatan mimmā ūtū wa-yuthirūna ʿala anfusihim wa-law kāna bihim khaṣāṣatun wa-man yūqa sḥuḥḥa nafsihi fa-ūlāʾika humu l-mufliḥūna

But those who before them, had homes (in Medina) and had adopted the Faith,- show their affection to such as came to them for refuge, and entertain no desire in their hearts for things given to the (latter), but give them preference over themselves, even though poverty was their (own lot). And those saved from the covetousness of their own souls,- they are the ones that achieve prosperity.

Sura al-Muddaththir 74:24

فَقَالَ إِنْ هَٰذَآ إِلَّا سِحْرٌ يُؤْثَرُ

fa-qāla in hādhā illā siḥrun yutharu

Then said he: "This is nothing but magic, derived from of old;

Sura al-Nāziʿāt 79:38

وَءَاثَرَ ٱلْحَيَوٰةَ ٱلدُّنْيَا

wa-āthara l-ḥayāta l-dunyā

And had preferred the life of this world,

Sura al-Aʿlā 87:16

بَلْ تُؤْثِرُونَ ٱلْحَيَوٰةَ ٱلدُّنْيَا

bal tuʾthirūna l-ḥayāta l-dunyā

Yay (behold), ye prefer the life of this world;
