Sura al-Baqara 2:203

وَٱذْكُرُوا۟ ٱللَّـهَ فِىٓ أَيَّامٍ مَّعْدُودَٰتٍ فَمَن تَعَجَّلَ فِى يَوْمَيْنِ فَلَآ إِثْمَ عَلَيْهِ وَمَن تَأَخَّرَ فَلَآ إِثْمَ عَلَيْهِ لِمَنِ ٱتَّقَىٰ وَٱتَّقُوا۟ ٱللَّـهَ وَٱعْلَمُوٓا۟ أَنَّكُمْ إِلَيْهِ تُحْشَرُونَ

wa-idhkurū allāha fī ayyāmin maʿdūdātin fa-man taʿajjala fī yawmayni fa-lā ithma ʿalayhi wa-man taʾakhkhara fa-lā ithma ʿalayhi limani ittaqā wa-ittaqū allāha wa-iʿlamū annakum ilayhi tuḥsharūna

Celebrate the praises of Allah during the Appointed Days. But if any one hastens to leave in two days, there is no blame on him, and if any one stays on, there is no blame on him, if his aim is to do right. Then fear Allah, and know that ye will surely be gathered unto Him.

Sura al-Nisāʾ 4:77

أَلَمْ تَرَ إِلَى ٱلَّذِينَ قِيلَ لَهُمْ كُفُّوٓا۟ أَيْدِيَكُمْ وَأَقِيمُوا۟ ٱلصَّلَوٰةَ وَءَاتُوا۟ ٱلزَّكَوٰةَ فَلَمَّا كُتِبَ عَلَيْهِمُ ٱلْقِتَالُ إِذَا فَرِيقٌ مِّنْهُمْ يَخْشَوْنَ ٱلنَّاسَ كَخَشْيَةِ ٱللَّـهِ أَوْ أَشَدَّ خَشْيَةً وَقَالُوا۟ رَبَّنَا لِمَ كَتَبْتَ عَلَيْنَا ٱلْقِتَالَ لَوْلَآ أَخَّرْتَنَآ إِلَىٰٓ أَجَلٍ قَرِيبٍ قُلْ مَتَٰعُ ٱلدُّنْيَا قَلِيلٌ وَٱلْأَخِرَةُ خَيْرٌ لِّمَنِ ٱتَّقَىٰ وَلَا تُظْلَمُونَ فَتِيلًا

a-lam tara ilā lladhīna qīla lahum kuffū aydiyakum wa-aqīmū l-ṣalāta wa-ātū l-zakāta fa-lammā kutiba ʿalayhimu l-qitālu idhā farīqun minhum yakhshawna l-nāsa ka-khashyati allāhi aw ashadda khashyatan wa-qālū rabbanā lima katabta ʿalaynā l-qitāla lawlā akhkhartanā ila ajalin qarībin qul matāʿu l-dunyā qalīlun wa-l-akhiratu khayrun li-mani ittaqā wa-lā tuẓlamūna fatīlan

Hast thou not turned Thy vision to those who were told to hold back their hands (from fight) but establish regular prayers and spend in regular charity? When (at length) the order for fighting was issued to them, behold! a section of them feared men as - or even more than - they should have feared Allah: They said: "Our Lord! Why hast Thou ordered us to fight? Wouldst Thou not Grant us respite to our (natural) term, near (enough)?" Say: "Short is the enjoyment of this world: the Hereafter is the best for those who do right: Never will ye be dealt with unjustly in the very least!

Sura al-Aʿrāf 7:34

وَلِكُلِّ أُمَّةٍ أَجَلٌ فَإِذَا جَآءَ أَجَلُهُمْ لَا يَسْتَأْخِرُونَ سَاعَةً وَلَا يَسْتَقْدِمُونَ

wa-li-kulli ummatin ajalun fa-idhā jāa ajaluhum lā yastaʾkhirūna sāʿatan wa-lā yastaqdimūna

To every people is a term appointed: when their term is reached, not an hour can they cause delay, nor (an hour) can they advance (it in anticipation).

Sura Yūnus 10:49

قُل لَّآ أَمْلِكُ لِنَفْسِى ضَرًّا وَلَا نَفْعًا إِلَّا مَا شَآءَ ٱللَّـهُ لِكُلِّ أُمَّةٍ أَجَلٌ إِذَا جَآءَ أَجَلُهُمْ فَلَا يَسْتَـْٔخِرُونَ سَاعَةً وَلَا يَسْتَقْدِمُونَ

qul lā amliku li-nafsī ḍarran wa-lā nafʿan illā mā shāʾa allāhu li-kulli ummatin ajalun idhā jāa ajaluhum fa-lā yastaʾkhirūna sāʿatan wa-lā yastaqdimūna

Say: "I have no power over any harm or profit to myself except as Allah willeth. To every people is a term appointed: when their term is reached, not an hour can they cause delay, nor (an hour) can they advance (it in anticipation)."

Sura Hūd 11:8

وَلَئِنْ أَخَّرْنَا عَنْهُمُ ٱلْعَذَابَ إِلَىٰٓ أُمَّةٍ مَّعْدُودَةٍ لَّيَقُولُنَّ مَا يَحْبِسُهُۥٓ أَلَا يَوْمَ يَأْتِيهِمْ لَيْسَ مَصْرُوفًا عَنْهُمْ وَحَاقَ بِهِم مَّا كَانُوا۟ بِهِۦ يَسْتَهْزِءُونَ

wa-lain akhkharnā ʿanhumu l-ʿadhāba ila ummatin maʿdūdatin llayaqūlunna mā yaḥbisuhu āla yawma yaʾtīhim laysa maṣrūfan ʿanhum wa-ḥāqa bihim mā kānū bihi yastahziʾūna

If We delay the penalty for them for a definite term, they are sure to say, "What keeps it back?" Ah! On the day it (actually) reaches them, nothing will turn it away from them, and they will be completely encircled by that which they used to mock at!

Sura Hūd 11:104

وَمَا نُؤَخِّرُهُۥٓ إِلَّا لِأَجَلٍ مَّعْدُودٍ

wa-mā nuʾakhkhiruhu illā li-ajalin maʿdūdin

Nor shall We delay it but for a term appointed.

Sura Ibrāhīm 14:10

قَالَتْ رُسُلُهُمْ أَفِى ٱللَّـهِ شَكٌّ فَاطِرِ ٱلسَّمَٰوَٰتِ وَٱلْأَرْضِ يَدْعُوكُمْ لِيَغْفِرَ لَكُم مِّن ذُنُوبِكُمْ وَيُؤَخِّرَكُمْ إِلَىٰٓ أَجَلٍ مُّسَمًّى قَالُوٓا۟ إِنْ أَنتُمْ إِلَّا بَشَرٌ مِّثْلُنَا تُرِيدُونَ أَن تَصُدُّونَا عَمَّا كَانَ يَعْبُدُ ءَابَآؤُنَا فَأْتُونَا بِسُلْطَٰنٍ مُّبِينٍ

qālat rusuluhum afī allāhi shakkun fāṭiri l-samāwāti wa-l-arḍi yadʿūkum li-yaghfira la-kum min dhunūbikum wa-yuʾakhkhirakum ila ajalin musamman qālū in antum illā basharun mithlunā turīdūna an taṣuddūnā ʿammā kāna yaʿbudu ābāʾunā fa-ʾtūnā bi-sulṭānin mubīnin

Their messengers said: "Is there a doubt about Allah, The Creator of the heavens and the earth? It is He Who invites you, in order that He may forgive you your sins and give you respite for a term appointed!" They said: "Ah! ye are no more than human, like ourselves! Ye wish to turn us away from the (gods) our fathers used to worship: then bring us some clear authority."

Sura Ibrāhīm 14:42

وَلَا تَحْسَبَنَّ ٱللَّـهَ غَٰفِلًا عَمَّا يَعْمَلُ ٱلظَّٰلِمُونَ إِنَّمَا يُؤَخِّرُهُمْ لِيَوْمٍ تَشْخَصُ فِيهِ ٱلْأَبْصَٰرُ

wa-lā taḥsabanna allāha ghāfilan ʿammā yaʿmalu l-ẓālimūna innamā yuʾakhkhiruhum li-yawmin tashkhaṣu fīhi l-abṣāru

Think not that Allah doth not heed the deeds of those who do wrong. He but giveth them respite against a Day when the eyes will fixedly stare in horror,-

Sura Ibrāhīm 14:44

وَأَنذِرِ ٱلنَّاسَ يَوْمَ يَأْتِيهِمُ ٱلْعَذَابُ فَيَقُولُ ٱلَّذِينَ ظَلَمُوا۟ رَبَّنَآ أَخِّرْنَآ إِلَىٰٓ أَجَلٍ قَرِيبٍ نُّجِبْ دَعْوَتَكَ وَنَتَّبِعِ ٱلرُّسُلَ أَوَلَمْ تَكُونُوٓا۟ أَقْسَمْتُم مِّن قَبْلُ مَا لَكُم مِّن زَوَالٍ

wa-andhiri l-nāsa yawma yaʾtīhimu l-ʿadhābu fa-yaqūlu lladhīna ẓalamū rabbanā akhkhirnā ila ajalin qarībin nnujib daʿwataka wa-nattabiʿi l-rusula a-wa-lam takūnū aqsamtum min qablu mā la-kum min zawālin

So warn mankind of the Day when the Wrath will reach them: then will the wrong-doers say: "Our Lord! respite us (if only) for a short term: we will answer Thy call, and follow the messengers!" "What! were ye not wont to swear aforetime that ye should suffer no decline?

Sura al-Ḥijr 15:5

مَّا تَسْبِقُ مِنْ أُمَّةٍ أَجَلَهَا وَمَا يَسْتَـْٔخِرُونَ

mā tasbiqu min ummatin ajalahā wa-mā yastaʾkhirūna

Neither can a people anticipate its term, nor delay it.

Sura al-Naḥl 16:61

وَلَوْ يُؤَاخِذُ ٱللَّـهُ ٱلنَّاسَ بِظُلْمِهِم مَّا تَرَكَ عَلَيْهَا مِن دَآبَّةٍ وَلَٰكِن يُؤَخِّرُهُمْ إِلَىٰٓ أَجَلٍ مُّسَمًّى فَإِذَا جَآءَ أَجَلُهُمْ لَا يَسْتَـْٔخِرُونَ سَاعَةً وَلَا يَسْتَقْدِمُونَ

wa-law yuākhidhu allāhu l-nāsa biẓulmihim mā taraka ʿalayhā min dābbatin wa-lākin yuʾakhkhiruhum ila ajalin musamman fa-idhā jāa ajaluhum lā yastaʾkhirūna sāʿatan wa-lā yastaqdimūna

If Allah were to punish men for their wrong-doing, He would not leave, on the (earth), a single living creature: but He gives them respite for a stated Term: When their Term expires, they would not be able to delay (the punishment) for a single hour, just as they would not be able to anticipate it (for a single hour).

Sura al-Isrāʾ 17:62

قَالَ أَرَءَيْتَكَ هَٰذَا ٱلَّذِى كَرَّمْتَ عَلَىَّ لَئِنْ أَخَّرْتَنِ إِلَىٰ يَوْمِ ٱلْقِيَٰمَةِ لَأَحْتَنِكَنَّ ذُرِّيَّتَهُۥٓ إِلَّا قَلِيلًا

qalā araʾaytaka hādhā alladhī karramta ʿalayya lain akhkhartani ilā yawmi l-qiyāmati la-aḥtanikanna dhurriyyatahu illā qalīlan

He said: "Seest Thou? this is the one whom Thou hast honoured above me! If Thou wilt but respite me to the Day of Judgment, I will surely bring his descendants under my sway - all but a few!"

Sura al-Muʾminūn 23:43

مَا تَسْبِقُ مِنْ أُمَّةٍ أَجَلَهَا وَمَا يَسْتَـْٔخِرُونَ

mā tasbiqu min ummatin ajalahā wa-mā yastaʾkhirūna

No people can hasten their term, nor can they delay (it).

Sura Sabaʾ 34:30

قُل لَّكُم مِّيعَادُ يَوْمٍ لَّا تَسْتَـْٔخِرُونَ عَنْهُ سَاعَةً وَلَا تَسْتَقْدِمُونَ

qul llakum mīʿādu yawmin lā tastaʾkhirūna ʿanhu sāʿatan wa-lā tastaqdimūna

Say: "The appointment to you is for a Day, which ye cannot put back for an hour nor put forward."

Sura al-Faṭīr 35:45

وَلَوْ يُؤَاخِذُ ٱللَّـهُ ٱلنَّاسَ بِمَا كَسَبُوا۟ مَا تَرَكَ عَلَىٰ ظَهْرِهَا مِن دَآبَّةٍ وَلَٰكِن يُؤَخِّرُهُمْ إِلَىٰٓ أَجَلٍ مُّسَمًّى فَإِذَا جَآءَ أَجَلُهُمْ فَإِنَّ ٱللَّـهَ كَانَ بِعِبَادِهِۦ بَصِيرًۢا

wa-law yuākhidhu allāhu l-nāsa bi-mā kasabū mā taraka ʿalā ẓahrihā min dābbatin wa-lākin yuʾakhkhiruhum ila ajalin musamman fa-idhā jāa ajaluhum fa-inna allāha kāna bi-ʿabādihi baṣīran

If Allah were to punish men according to what they deserve. He would not leave on the back of the (earth) a single living creature: but He gives them respite for a stated Term: when their Term expires, verily Allah has in His sight all His Servants.

Sura al-Fatḥ 48:2

لِّيَغْفِرَ لَكَ ٱللَّـهُ مَا تَقَدَّمَ مِن ذَنۢبِكَ وَمَا تَأَخَّرَ وَيُتِمَّ نِعْمَتَهُۥ عَلَيْكَ وَيَهْدِيَكَ صِرَٰطًا مُّسْتَقِيمًا

li-yaghfira la-ka allāhu mā taqaddama min dhanbika wa-mā taʾakhkhara wa-yutimma niʿmatahu ʿalayka wa-yahdiyaka ṣirāṭan mustaqīman

That Allah may forgive thee thy faults of the past and those to follow; fulfil His favour to thee; and guide thee on the Straight Way;

Sura al-Munāfiqūn 63:10

وَأَنفِقُوا۟ مِن مَّا رَزَقْنَٰكُم مِّن قَبْلِ أَن يَأْتِىَ أَحَدَكُمُ ٱلْمَوْتُ فَيَقُولَ رَبِّ لَوْلَآ أَخَّرْتَنِىٓ إِلَىٰٓ أَجَلٍ قَرِيبٍ فَأَصَّدَّقَ وَأَكُن مِّنَ ٱلصَّٰلِحِينَ

wa-anfiqū min mā razaqnākum min qabli an yaʾtiya aḥadakumu l-mawtu fa-yaqūla rabbi lawlā akhkhartanī ila ajalin qarībin fa-aṣṣaddaqa wa-akun mina l-ṣāliḥīna

and spend something (in charity) out of the substance which We have bestowed on you, before Death should come to any of you and he should say, "O my Lord! why didst Thou not give me respite for a little while? I should then have given (largely) in charity, and I should have been one of the doers of good".

Sura al-Munāfiqūn 63:11

وَلَن يُؤَخِّرَ ٱللَّـهُ نَفْسًا إِذَا جَآءَ أَجَلُهَا وَٱللَّـهُ خَبِيرٌۢ بِمَا تَعْمَلُونَ

wa-lan yuʾakhkhira allāhu nafsan idhā jāa ajaluhā wallāhu khabīrun bi-mā taʿmalūna

But to no soul will Allah grant respite when the time appointed (for it) has come; and Allah is well acquainted with (all) that ye do.

Sura Nūḥ 71:4

يَغْفِرْ لَكُم مِّن ذُنُوبِكُمْ وَيُؤَخِّرْكُمْ إِلَىٰٓ أَجَلٍ مُّسَمًّى إِنَّ أَجَلَ ٱللَّـهِ إِذَا جَآءَ لَا يُؤَخَّرُ لَوْ كُنتُمْ تَعْلَمُونَ

yaghfir la-kum min dhunūbikum wa-yuʾakhkhirkum ila ajalin musamman inna ajala allāhi idhā jāa lā yuʾakhkharu law kuntum taʿlamūna

"So He may forgive you your sins and give you respite for a stated Term: for when the Term given by Allah is accomplished, it cannot be put forward: if ye only knew."

Sura al-Muddaththir 74:37

لِمَن شَآءَ مِنكُمْ أَن يَتَقَدَّمَ أَوْ يَتَأَخَّرَ

li-man shāʾa minkum an yataqaddama aw yataʾakhkhara

To any of you that chooses to press forward, or to follow behind;-

Sura al-Qiyāmah 75:13

يُنَبَّؤُا۟ ٱلْإِنسَٰنُ يَوْمَئِذٍۭ بِمَا قَدَّمَ وَأَخَّرَ

yunabbaʾu l-insānu yawmaʾidhin bi-mā qaddama wa-akhkhara

That Day will Man be told (all) that he put forward, and all that he put back.

Sura al-Infiṭār 82:5

عَلِمَتْ نَفْسٌ مَّا قَدَّمَتْ وَأَخَّرَتْ

ʿalimat nafsun mā qaddamat wa-akhkharat

(Then) shall each soul know what it hath sent forward and (what it hath) kept back.
