Surah 2 al-Baqara (The Cow)
RefArabic    TransliterationTranslation
(2:8)

وَمِنَ  ٱلنَّاسِ  مَن  يَقُولُ  ءَامَنَّا  بِٱللَّـهِ  وَبِٱلْيَوْمِ  ٱلْأَخِرِ  وَمَا  هُم  بِمُؤْمِنِينَ wa‑mina l‑nāsi man yaqūlu āmannā billāhi wa‑bil‑yawmi l‑akhiri wa‑mā hum bi‑mūʾminīna
Of the people there are some who say: "We believe in Allah and the Last Day;" but they do not (really) believe.
(2:13)

وَإِذَا  قِيلَ  لَهُمْ  ءَامِنُوا۟  كَمَآ  ءَامَنَ  ٱلنَّاسُ  قَالُوٓا۟  أَنُؤْمِنُ  كَمَآ  ءَامَنَ  ٱلسُّفَهَآءُ  أَلَآ  إِنَّهُمْ  هُمُ  ٱلسُّفَهَآءُ  وَلَٰكِن  لَّا  يَعْلَمُونَ wa‑idhā qīla lahum āminū ka‑mā āmana l‑nāsu qālū a‑nuʾminu ka‑mā āmana l‑sufahāʾu āla innahum humu l‑sufahāʾu wa‑lākin yaʿlamūna
When it is said to them: "Believe as the others believe:" They say: "Shall we believe as the fools believe?" Nay, of a surety they are the fools, but they do not know.
(2:14)

When they meet those who believe, they say: "We believe;" but when they are alone with their evil ones, they say: "We are really with you: We (were) only jesting."
(2:55)

And remember ye said: "O Moses! We shall never believe in thee until we see Allah manifestly," but ye were dazed with thunder and lighting even as ye looked on.
(2:76)

وَإِذَا  لَقُوا۟  ٱلَّذِينَ  ءَامَنُوا۟  قَالُوٓا۟  ءَامَنَّا  وَإِذَا  خَلَا  بَعْضُهُمْ  إِلَىٰ  بَعْضٍ  قَالُوٓا۟  أَتُحَدِّثُونَهُم  بِمَا  فَتَحَ  ٱللَّـهُ  عَلَيْكُمْ  لِيُحَآجُّوكُم  بِهِۦ  عِندَ  رَبِّكُمْ  أَفَلَا  تَعْقِلُونَ wa‑idhā laqū lladhīna āmanū qālū āmannā wa‑idhā khalā baʿḍuhum ilā baʿḍin qālū atuḥaddithūnahum bi‑mā fataḥa allāhu ʿalaykum li‑yuḥājjūkum bihi ʿinda rabbikum a‑fa‑lā taʿqilūna
Behold! when they meet the men of Faith, they say: "We believe": But when they meet each other in private, they say: "Shall you tell them what Allah hath revealed to you, that they may engage you in argument about it before your Lord?"- Do ye not understand (their aim)?
(2:91)

وَإِذَا  قِيلَ  لَهُمْ  ءَامِنُوا۟  بِمَآ  أَنزَلَ  ٱللَّـهُ  قَالُوا۟  نُؤْمِنُ  بِمَآ  أُنزِلَ  عَلَيْنَا  وَيَكْفُرُونَ  بِمَا  وَرَآءَهُۥ  وَهُوَ  ٱلْحَقُّ  مُصَدِّقًا  لِّمَا  مَعَهُمْ  قُلْ  فَلِمَ  تَقْتُلُونَ  أَنۢبِيَآءَ  ٱللَّـهِ  مِن  قَبْلُ  إِن  كُنتُم  مُّؤْمِنِينَ wa‑idhā qīla lahum āminū bimā anzala allāhu qālū nuʾminu bimā unzila ʿalaynā wa‑yakfurūna bi‑mā wa‑rāʾahu wa‑huwa l‑ḥaqqu muṣaddiqan li‑mā maʿahum qul falima taqtulūna anbiyāʾa allāhi min qablu in kuntum muʾminīna
When it is said to them, "Believe in what Allah Hath sent down, "they say, "We believe in what was sent down to us:" yet they reject all besides, even if it be Truth confirming what is with them. Say: "Why then have ye slain the prophets of Allah in times gone by, if ye did indeed believe?"
(2:136)

Say ye: "We believe in Allah, and the revelation given to us, and to Abraham, Isma'il, Isaac, Jacob, and the Tribes, and that given to Moses and Jesus, and that given to (all) prophets from their Lord: We make no difference between one and another of them: And we bow to Allah (in Islam)."

Surah 3 Āl-ʿImrān (The Family of Imran)
(3:7)

هُوَ  ٱلَّذِىٓ  أَنزَلَ  عَلَيْكَ  ٱلْكِتَٰبَ  مِنْهُ  ءَايَٰتٌ  مُّحْكَمَٰتٌ  هُنَّ  أُمُّ  ٱلْكِتَٰبِ  وَأُخَرُ  مُتَشَٰبِهَٰتٌ  فَأَمَّا  ٱلَّذِينَ  فِى  قُلُوبِهِمْ  زَيْغٌ  فَيَتَّبِعُونَ  مَا  تَشَٰبَهَ  مِنْهُ  ٱبْتِغَآءَ  ٱلْفِتْنَةِ  وَٱبْتِغَآءَ  تَأْوِيلِهِۦ  وَمَا  يَعْلَمُ  تَأْوِيلَهُۥٓ  إِلَّا  ٱللَّـهُ  وَٱلرَّٰسِخُونَ  فِى  ٱلْعِلْمِ  يَقُولُونَ  ءَامَنَّا  بِهِۦ  كُلٌّ  مِّنْ  عِندِ  رَبِّنَا  وَمَا  يَذَّكَّرُ  إِلَّآ  أُو۟لُوا۟  ٱلْأَلْبَٰبِ huwa alladhī anzala ʿalayka l‑kitāba minhu āyātun muḥkamātun hunna ummu l‑kitābi wa‑ukharu mutashābihātun fa‑ammā lladhīna qulūbihim zayghun fa‑yattabiʿūna tashābaha minhu ibtighāʾa l‑fitnati wa‑ibtighāʾa tawīlihi wa‑mā yaʿlamu tawīlahu illā allāhu wa‑l‑rāsikhūna l‑ʿilmi yaqūlūna āmannā bihi kullun min ʿindi rabbinā wa‑mā yadhdhakkaru illā ūlū l‑albābi
He it is Who has sent down to thee the Book: In it are verses basic or fundamental (of established meaning); they are the foundation of the Book: others are allegorical. But those in whose hearts is perversity follow the part thereof that is allegorical, seeking discord, and searching for its hidden meanings, but no one knows its hidden meanings except Allah. And those who are firmly grounded in knowledge say: "We believe in the Book; the whole of it is from our Lord:" and none will grasp the Message except men of understanding.
(3:16)

When Jesus found Unbelief on their part He said: "Who will be My helpers to (the work of) Allah?" Said the disciples: "We are Allah's helpers: We believe in Allah, and do thou bear witness that we are Muslims.

When they meet you, they say, "We believe": But when they are alone, they bite off the very tips of their fingers at you in their rage. يَٰٓأَيُّهَا  ٱلرَّسُولُ  لَا  يَحْزُنكَ  ٱلَّذِينَ  يُسَٰرِعُونَ  فِى  ٱلْكُفْرِ  مِنَ  ٱلَّذِينَ  قَالُوٓا۟  ءَامَنَّا  بِأَفْوَٰهِهِمْ  وَلَمْ  تُؤْمِن  قُلُوبُهُمْ  وَمِنَ  ٱلَّذِينَ  هَادُوا۟  سَمَّٰعُونَ  لِلْكَذِبِ  سَمَّٰعُونَ  لِقَوْمٍ  ءَاخَرِينَ  لَمْ  يَأْتُوكَ  يُحَرِّفُونَ  ٱلْكَلِمَ  مِنۢ  بَعْدِ  مَوَاضِعِهِۦ  يَقُولُونَ  إِنْ  أُوتِيتُمْ  هَٰذَا  فَخُذُوهُ  وَإِن  لَّمْ  تُؤْتَوْهُ  فَٱحْذَرُوا۟  وَمَن  يُرِدِ  ٱللَّـهُ  فِتْنَتَهُۥ  فَلَن  تَمْلِكَ  لَهُۥ  مِنَ  ٱللَّـهِ  شَيْـًٔا  أُو۟لَٰٓئِكَ  ٱلَّذِينَ  لَمْ  يُرِدِ  ٱللَّـهُ  أَن  يُطَهِّرَ  قُلُوبَهُمْ  لَهُمْ  فِى  ٱلدُّنْيَا  خِزْىٌ  وَلَهُمْ  فِى  ٱلْأَخِرَةِ  عَذَابٌ  عَظِيمٌ yā‑ayyuhā l‑rasūlu yaḥzunka lladhīna yusāriʿūna l‑kufri mina lladhīna qālū āmannā bi‑afwāhihim wa‑lam tuʾmin qulūbuhum wa‑mina lladhīna hādū sammāʿūna lil‑kadhibi sammāʿūna li‑qawmin ākharīna lam yaʾtūka yuḥarrifūna l‑kalima min baʿdi mawāḍiʿihi yaqūlūna in ūtītum hādhā fakhudhūhu wa‑in lam tutawhu faḥdharū wa‑man yuridi allāhu fitnatahu fa‑lan tamlika lahu mina allāhi shayʾan ulāʾika lladhīna lam yuridi allāhu an yuṭahhira qulūbahum lahum l‑dunyā khizun wa‑lahum l‑akhirati ʿadhābun ʿaẓīmun
O Messenger! let not those grieve thee, who race each other into unbelief: (whether it be) among those who say "We believe" with their lips but whose hearts have no faith; or it be among the Jews,- men who will listen to any lie,- will listen even to others who have never so much as come to thee. They change the words from their (right) times and places: they say, "If ye are given this, take it, but if not, beware!" If any one's trial is intended by Allah, thou hast no authority in the least for him against Allah. For such - it is not Allah's will to purify their hearts. For them there is disgrace in this world, and in the Hereafter a heavy punishment.

وَلَمَّا  وَقَعَ  عَلَيْهِمُ  ٱلرِّجْزُ  قَالُوا۟  يَٰمُوسَى  ٱدْعُ  لَنَا  رَبَّكَ  بِمَا  عَهِدَ  عِندَكَ  لَئِن  كَشَفْتَ  عَنَّا  ٱلرِّجْزَ  لَنُؤْمِنَنَّ  لَكَ  وَلَنُرْسِلَنَّ  مَعَكَ  بَنِىٓ  إِسْرَٰٓءِيلَ wa‑lammā waqaʿa ʿalayhimu l‑rijzu qālū yā‑musā idʿu la‑nā rabbaka bi‑mā ʿahida ʿindaka lain kashafta ʿannā l‑rijza la‑nuʾminanna la‑ka wa‑la‑nursilanna maʿaka banī isrāʾīla
Every time the penalty fell on them, they said: "O Moses! on your behalf call on thy Lord in virtue of his promise to thee: If thou wilt remove the penalty from us, we shall truly believe in thee, and we shall send away the Children of Israel with thee."

Surah 9 al-Tawbah (Repentance)
(9:94)

They will present their excuses to you when ye return to them. Say thou: "Present no excuses: we shall not believe you: Allah hath already informed us of the true state of matters concerning you: It is your actions that Allah and His Messenger will observe: in the end will ye be brought back to Him Who knoweth what is hidden and what is open: then will He show you the truth of all that ye did."

Surah 10 Yūnus (Jonah)
(10:90)

We took the Children of Israel across the sea: Pharaoh and his hosts followed them in insolence and spite. At length, when overwhelmed with the flood, he said: "I believe that there is no god except Him Whom the Children of Israel believe in: I am of those who submit (to Allah in Islam)."

Surah 12 Yūsuf (Joseph)
(12:64)

He said: "Shall I trust you with him with any result other than when I trusted you with his brother aforetime? But Allah is the best to take care (of him), and He is the Most Merciful of those who show mercy!"

Surah 17 al-Isrāʾ (The Children of Israel)
(17:90)

وَقَالُوا۟  لَن  نُّؤْمِنَ  لَكَ  حَتَّىٰ  تَفْجُرَ  لَنَا  مِنَ  ٱلْأَرْضِ  يَنۢبُوعًا wa‑qālū lan nuʾmina la‑ka ḥattā tafjura la‑nā mina l‑arḍi yanbūʿan
They say: "We shall not believe in thee, until thou cause a spring to gush forth for us from the earth,
(17:93)

أَوْ  يَكُونَ  لَكَ  بَيْتٌ  مِّن  زُخْرُفٍ  أَوْ  تَرْقَىٰ  فِى  ٱلسَّمَآءِ  وَلَن  نُّؤْمِنَ  لِرُقِيِّكَ  حَتَّىٰ  تُنَزِّلَ  عَلَيْنَا  كِتَٰبًا  نَّقْرَؤُهُۥ  قُلْ  سُبْحَانَ  رَبِّى  هَلْ  كُنتُ  إِلَّا  بَشَرًا  رَّسُولًا aw yakūna la‑ka baytun min zukhrufin aw tarqa l‑samāʾi wa‑lan nuʾmina li‑ruqiyyika ḥattā tunazzila ʿalaynā kitāban nnaqraʾuhu qul subḥāna rabbī hal kuntu illā basharan rrasūlan
"Or thou have a house adorned with gold, or thou mount a ladder right into the skies. No, we shall not even believe in thy mounting until thou send down to us a book that we could read." Say: "Glory to my Lord! Am I aught but a man,- a messenger?"

Surah 20 Ṭā Hā (Ta-Ha)
(20:70)

So the magicians were thrown down to prostration: they said, "We believe in the Lord of Aaron and Moses".
(20:73)

"For us, we have believed in our Lord: may He forgive us our faults, and the magic to which thou didst compel us: for Allah is Best and Most Abiding."

Surah 23 al-Muʾminūn (The Believers)
(23:47)

فَقَالُوٓا۟  أَنُؤْمِنُ  لِبَشَرَيْنِ  مِثْلِنَا  وَقَوْمُهُمَا  لَنَا  عَٰبِدُونَ faqālū a‑nuʾminu libasharayni mithlinā waqawmuhumā la‑nā ʿābidūna
They said: "Shall we believe in two men like ourselves? And their people are subject to us!"
(23:109)

"A part of My servants there was, who used to pray 'our Lord! we believe; then do Thou forgive us, and have mercy upon us: For Thou art the Best of those who show mercy!"

Surah 24 al-Nūr (The Light)
(24:47)

They say, "We believe in Allah and in the messenger, and we obey": but even after that, some of them turn away: they are not (really) Believers.

Surah 26 al-Shuʿarā (The Poets)
(26:47)

Saying: "We believe in the Lord of the Worlds,
(26:111)

قَالُوٓا۟  أَنُؤْمِنُ  لَكَ  وَٱتَّبَعَكَ  ٱلْأَرْذَلُونَ qālū a‑nuʾminu la‑ka wattabaʿaka l‑ardhalūna
They said: "Shall we believe in thee when it is the meanest that follow thee?"

Surah 28 al-Qaṣaṣ (The Narrative)
(28:53)

And when it is recited to them, they say: "We believe therein, for it is the Truth from our Lord: indeed we have been Muslims (bowing to Allah's Will) from before this.

Surah 29 al-ʿAnkabūt (The Spider)
(29:2)

أَحَسِبَ  ٱلنَّاسُ  أَن  يُتْرَكُوٓا۟  أَن  يَقُولُوٓا۟  ءَامَنَّا  وَهُمْ  لَا  يُفْتَنُونَ aḥasiba l‑nāsu an yutrakū an yaqūlū āmannā wa‑hum yuftanūna
Do men think that they will be left alone on saying, "We believe", and that they will not be tested?
(29:10)

وَمِنَ  ٱلنَّاسِ  مَن  يَقُولُ  ءَامَنَّا  بِٱللَّـهِ  فَإِذَآ  أُوذِىَ  فِى  ٱللَّـهِ  جَعَلَ  فِتْنَةَ  ٱلنَّاسِ  كَعَذَابِ  ٱللَّـهِ  وَلَئِن  جَآءَ  نَصْرٌ  مِّن  رَّبِّكَ  لَيَقُولُنَّ  إِنَّا  كُنَّا  مَعَكُمْ  أَوَلَيْسَ  ٱللَّـهُ  بِأَعْلَمَ  بِمَا  فِى  صُدُورِ  ٱلْعَٰلَمِينَ wa‑mina l‑nāsi man yaqūlu āmannā billāhi fa‑idhā ūdhiya allāhi jaʿala fitnata l‑nāsi ka‑ʿadhābi allāhi wa‑laʾin jāa naṣrun min rabbika la‑yaqūlunna innā kunnā maʿakum a‑wa‑laysa allāhu bi‑aʿlama bi‑mā ṣudūri l‑ʿālamīna
Then there are among men such as say, "We believe in Allah"; but when they suffer affliction in (the cause of) Allah, they treat men's oppression as if it were the Wrath of Allah! And if help comes (to thee) from thy Lord, they are sure to say, "We have (always) been with you!" Does not Allah know best all that is in the hearts of all creation?
(29:46)

And dispute ye not with the People of the Book, except with means better (than mere disputation), unless it be with those of them who inflict wrong (and injury): but say, "We believe in the revelation which has come down to us and in that which came down to you; Our Allah and your Allah is one; and it is to Him we bow (in Islam)."

Surah 34 Sabaʾ (Sheba)
(34:31)

The Unbelievers say: "We shall neither believe in this scripture nor in (any) that (came) before it." Couldst thou but see when the wrong-doers will be made to stand before their Lord, throwing back the word (of blame) on one another! Those who had been despised will say to the arrogant ones: "Had it not been for you, we should certainly have been believers!"
(34:52)

And they will say, "We do believe (now) in the (Truth)"; but how could they receive (Faith) from a position (so far off,-

Surah 36 Yā Sin (Ya Sin)
(36:25)

"For me, I have faith in the Lord of you (all): listen, then, to me!"

Surah 40 al-Ghāfir (The Forgiving One)
(40:84)

But when they saw Our Punishment, they said: "We believe in Allah,- the one Allah - and we reject the partners we used to join with Him."

Surah 42 al-Shūrā (The Counsel)
(42:15)

فَلِذَٰلِكَ  فَٱدْعُ  وَٱسْتَقِمْ  كَمَآ  أُمِرْتَ  وَلَا  تَتَّبِعْ  أَهْوَآءَهُمْ  وَقُلْ  ءَامَنتُ  بِمَآ  أَنزَلَ  ٱللَّـهُ  مِن  كِتَٰبٍ  وَأُمِرْتُ  لِأَعْدِلَ  بَيْنَكُمُ  ٱللَّـهُ  رَبُّنَا  وَرَبُّكُمْ  لَنَآ  أَعْمَٰلُنَا  وَلَكُمْ  أَعْمَٰلُكُمْ  لَا  حُجَّةَ  بَيْنَنَا  وَبَيْنَكُمُ  ٱللَّـهُ  يَجْمَعُ  بَيْنَنَا  وَإِلَيْهِ  ٱلْمَصِيرُ fa‑li‑dhālika fa‑idʿu wa‑istaqim ka‑mā umirta wa‑lā tattabiʿ ahwāʾahum wa‑qul āmantu bimā anzala allāhu min kitābin wa‑umirtu li‑aʿdila baynakumu allāhu rabbunā wa‑rabbukum lanā aʿmālunā wa‑lakum aʿmālukum ḥujjata baynanā wa‑baynakumu allāhu yajmaʿu baynanā wa‑ilayhi l‑maṣīru
Now then, for that (reason), call (them to the Faith), and stand steadfast as thou art commanded, nor follow thou their vain desires; but say: "I believe in the Book which Allah has sent down; and I am commanded to judge justly between you. Allah is our Lord and your Lord: for us (is the responsibility for) our deeds, and for you for your deeds. There is no contention between us and you. Allah will bring us together, and to Him is (our) Final Goal.

Surah 49 al-Ḥujurāt (The Chambers)
(49:14)

قَالَتِ  ٱلْأَعْرَابُ  ءَامَنَّا  قُل  لَّمْ  تُؤْمِنُوا۟  وَلَٰكِن  قُولُوٓا۟  أَسْلَمْنَا  وَلَمَّا  يَدْخُلِ  ٱلْإِيمَٰنُ  فِى  قُلُوبِكُمْ  وَإِن  تُطِيعُوا۟  ٱللَّـهَ  وَرَسُولَهُۥ  لَا  يَلِتْكُم  مِّنْ  أَعْمَٰلِكُمْ  شَيْـًٔا  إِنَّ  ٱللَّـهَ  غَفُورٌ  رَّحِيمٌ qālati l‑aʿrābu āmannā qul lam tūʾminū wa‑lākin qūlū aslamnā wa‑lammā yadkhuli l‑īmānu qulūbikum wa‑in tuṭīʿū allāha wa‑rasūlahu yalitkum min aʿmālikum shayʾan inna allāha ghafūrun raḥīmun
The desert Arabs say, "We believe." Say, "Ye have no faith; but ye (only)say, 'We have submitted our wills to Allah,' For not yet has Faith entered your hearts. But if ye obey Allah and His Messenger, He will not belittle aught of your deeds: for Allah is Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful."

Surah 67 al-Mulk (The Kingdom)
(67:29)

قُلْ  هُوَ  ٱلرَّحْمَٰنُ  ءَامَنَّا  بِهِۦ  وَعَلَيْهِ  تَوَكَّلْنَا  فَسَتَعْلَمُونَ  مَنْ  هُوَ  فِى  ضَلَٰلٍ  مُّبِينٍ qul huwa l‑raḥmānu āmannā bihi wa‑ʿalayhi tawakkalnā fa‑sa‑taʿlamūna man huwa ḍalālin mubīnin
Say: "He is (Allah) Most Gracious: We have believed in Him, and on Him have we put our trust: So, soon will ye know which (of us) it is that is in manifest error."

Surah 72 al-Jinn (The Jinn)
(72:2)

'It gives guidance to the Right, and we have believed therein: we shall not join (in worship) any (gods) with our Lord.
