Sura al-Baqara 2:17

مَثَلُهُمْ كَمَثَلِ ٱلَّذِى ٱسْتَوْقَدَ نَارًا فَلَمَّآ أَضَآءَتْ مَا حَوْلَهُۥ ذَهَبَ ٱللَّـهُ بِنُورِهِمْ وَتَرَكَهُمْ فِى ظُلُمَٰتٍ لَّا يُبْصِرُونَ

mathaluhum ka-mathali alladhī istawqada nāran fa-lammā aḍāʾat mā ḥawlahu dhahaba allāhu binūrihim wa-tarakahum fī ẓulumātin lā yubṣirūna

Their similitude is that of a man who kindled a fire; when it lighted all around him, Allah took away their light and left them in utter darkness. So they could not see.

Sura al-Anʿām 6:104

قَدْ جَآءَكُم بَصَآئِرُ مِن رَّبِّكُمْ فَمَنْ أَبْصَرَ فَلِنَفْسِهِۦ وَمَنْ عَمِىَ فَعَلَيْهَا وَمَآ أَنَا۠ عَلَيْكُم بِحَفِيظٍ

qad jāʾakum baṣāʾiru min rabbikum fa-man abṣara fa-li-nafsihi wa-man ʿamiya fa-ʿalayhā wa-mā anā ʿalaykum bi-ḥafīẓin

"Now have come to you, from your Lord, proofs (to open your eyes): if any will see, it will be for (the good of) his own soul; if any will be blind, it will be to his own (harm): I am not (here) to watch over your doings."

Sura al-Aʿrāf 7:179

وَلَقَدْ ذَرَأْنَا لِجَهَنَّمَ كَثِيرًا مِّنَ ٱلْجِنِّ وَٱلْإِنسِ لَهُمْ قُلُوبٌ لَّا يَفْقَهُونَ بِهَا وَلَهُمْ أَعْيُنٌ لَّا يُبْصِرُونَ بِهَا وَلَهُمْ ءَاذَانٌ لَّا يَسْمَعُونَ بِهَآ أُو۟لَٰٓئِكَ كَٱلْأَنْعَٰمِ بَلْ هُمْ أَضَلُّ أُو۟لَٰٓئِكَ هُمُ ٱلْغَٰفِلُونَ

wa-la-qad dharanā li-jahannama kathīran mina l-jinni wa-l-insi lahum qulūbun lā yafqahūna bihā wa-lahum aʿyunun lā yubṣirūna bihā wa-lahum ādhānun lā yasmaʿūna bihā ulāʾika ka-l-anʿāmi bal hum aḍallu ulāʾika humu l-ghāfilūna

Many are the Jinns and men we have made for Hell: They have hearts wherewith they understand not, eyes wherewith they see not, and ears wherewith they hear not. They are like cattle,- nay more misguided: for they are heedless (of warning).

Sura al-Aʿrāf 7:195

أَلَهُمْ أَرْجُلٌ يَمْشُونَ بِهَآ أَمْ لَهُمْ أَيْدٍ يَبْطِشُونَ بِهَآ أَمْ لَهُمْ أَعْيُنٌ يُبْصِرُونَ بِهَآ أَمْ لَهُمْ ءَاذَانٌ يَسْمَعُونَ بِهَا قُلِ ٱدْعُوا۟ شُرَكَآءَكُمْ ثُمَّ كِيدُونِ فَلَا تُنظِرُونِ

alahum arjulun yamshūna bihā am lahum aydin yabṭishūna bihā am lahum aʿyunun yubṣirūna bihā am lahum ādhānun yasmaʿūna bihā quli idʿū shurakāʾakum thumma kīdūni fa-lā tunẓirūni

Have they feet to walk with? Or hands to lay hold with? Or eyes to see with? Or ears to hear with? Say: "Call your 'god-partners', scheme (your worst) against me, and give me no respite!

Sura al-Aʿrāf 7:198

وَإِن تَدْعُوهُمْ إِلَى ٱلْهُدَىٰ لَا يَسْمَعُوا۟ وَتَرَىٰهُمْ يَنظُرُونَ إِلَيْكَ وَهُمْ لَا يُبْصِرُونَ

wa-in tadʿūhum ilā l-hudā lā yasmaʿū wa-tarāhum yanẓurūna ilayka wa-hum lā yubṣirūna

If thou callest them to guidance, they hear not. Thou wilt see them looking at thee, but they see not.

Sura Yūnus 10:43

وَمِنْهُم مَّن يَنظُرُ إِلَيْكَ أَفَأَنتَ تَهْدِى ٱلْعُمْىَ وَلَوْ كَانُوا۟ لَا يُبْصِرُونَ

wa-minhum man yanẓuru ilayka a-fa-anta tahdī l-ʿuma wa-law kānū lā yubṣirūna

And among them are some who look at thee: but canst thou guide the blind,- even though they will not see?

Sura Hūd 11:20

أُو۟لَٰٓئِكَ لَمْ يَكُونُوا۟ مُعْجِزِينَ فِى ٱلْأَرْضِ وَمَا كَانَ لَهُم مِّن دُونِ ٱللَّـهِ مِنْ أَوْلِيَآءَ يُضَٰعَفُ لَهُمُ ٱلْعَذَابُ مَا كَانُوا۟ يَسْتَطِيعُونَ ٱلسَّمْعَ وَمَا كَانُوا۟ يُبْصِرُونَ

ulāʾika lam yakūnū muʿjizīna fī l-arḍi wa-mā kāna lahum min dūni allāhi min awliyāʾa yuḍāʿafu lahumu l-ʿadhābu mā kānū yastaṭīʿūna l-samʿa wa-mā kānū yubṣirūna

They will in no wise frustrate (His design) on earth, nor have they protectors besides Allah! Their penalty will be doubled! They lost the power to hear, and they did not see!

Sura al-Kahf 18:26

قُلِ ٱللَّـهُ أَعْلَمُ بِمَا لَبِثُوا۟ لَهُۥ غَيْبُ ٱلسَّمَٰوَٰتِ وَٱلْأَرْضِ أَبْصِرْ بِهِۦ وَأَسْمِعْ مَا لَهُم مِّن دُونِهِۦ مِن وَلِىٍّ وَلَا يُشْرِكُ فِى حُكْمِهِۦٓ أَحَدًا

quli allāhu aʿlamu bi-mā labithū lahu ghaybu l-samāwāti wa-l-arḍi abṣir bihi wa-asmiʿ mā lahum min dūnihi min waliyyin wa-lā yushriku fī ḥukmihi aḥadan

Say: "Allah knows best how long they stayed: with Him is (the knowledge of) the secrets of the heavens and the earth: how clearly He sees, how finely He hears (everything)! They have no protector other than Him; nor does He share His Command with any person whatsoever.

Sura Maryam 19:38

أَسْمِعْ بِهِمْ وَأَبْصِرْ يَوْمَ يَأْتُونَنَا لَٰكِنِ ٱلظَّٰلِمُونَ ٱلْيَوْمَ فِى ضَلَٰلٍ مُّبِينٍ

asmiʿ bihim wa-abṣir yawma yaʾtūnana lākini l-ẓālimūna l-yawma fī ḍalālin mubīnin

How plainly will they see and hear, the Day that they will appear before Us! but the unjust today are in error manifest!

Sura Maryam 19:42

إِذْ قَالَ لِأَبِيهِ يَٰٓأَبَتِ لِمَ تَعْبُدُ مَا لَا يَسْمَعُ وَلَا يُبْصِرُ وَلَا يُغْنِى عَنكَ شَيْـًٔا

idh qalā li-abīhi yā-abati lima taʿbudu mā lā yasmaʿu wa-lā yubṣiru wa-lā yughnī ʿanka shayʾan

Behold, he said to his father: "O my father! why worship that which heareth not and seeth not, and can profit thee nothing?

Sura Ṭā Hā 20:96

قَالَ بَصُرْتُ بِمَا لَمْ يَبْصُرُوا۟ بِهِۦ فَقَبَضْتُ قَبْضَةً مِّنْ أَثَرِ ٱلرَّسُولِ فَنَبَذْتُهَا وَكَذَٰلِكَ سَوَّلَتْ لِى نَفْسِى

qalā baṣurtu bi-mā lam yabṣurū bihi faqabaḍtu qabḍatan min athari l-rasūli fa-nabadhtuhā wa-ka-dhālika sawwalat lī nafsī

He replied: "I saw what they saw not: so I took a handful (of dust) from the footprint of the Messenger, and threw it (into the calf): thus did my soul suggest to me."

Sura al-Anbiyāʾ 21:3

لَاهِيَةً قُلُوبُهُمْ وَأَسَرُّوا۟ ٱلنَّجْوَى ٱلَّذِينَ ظَلَمُوا۟ هَلْ هَٰذَآ إِلَّا بَشَرٌ مِّثْلُكُمْ أَفَتَأْتُونَ ٱلسِّحْرَ وَأَنتُمْ تُبْصِرُونَ

lāḥiyatan qulūbuhum wa-asarrū l-najwā lladhīna ẓalamū hal hādhā illā basharun mithlukum a-fa-taʾtūna l-siḥra wa-antum tubṣirūna

Their hearts toying as with trifles. The wrong-doers conceal their private counsels, (saying), "Is this (one) more than a man like yourselves? Will ye go to witchcraft with your eyes open?"

Sura al-Naml 27:54

وَلُوطًا إِذْ قَالَ لِقَوْمِهِۦٓ أَتَأْتُونَ ٱلْفَٰحِشَةَ وَأَنتُمْ تُبْصِرُونَ

wa-lūṭan idh qalā li-qawmihi a-taʾtūna l-fāḥishata wa-antum tubṣirūna

(We also sent) Lut (as a messenger): behold, He said to his people, "Do ye do what is shameful though ye see (its iniquity)?

Sura al-Qaṣaṣ 28:11

وَقَالَتْ لِأُخْتِهِۦ قُصِّيهِ فَبَصُرَتْ بِهِۦ عَن جُنُبٍ وَهُمْ لَا يَشْعُرُونَ

wa-qālat li-ukhtihi quṣṣīhi fabaṣurat bihi ʿan junubin wa-hum lā yashʿurūna

And she said to the sister of (Moses), "Follow him" so she (the sister) watched him in the character of a stranger. And they knew not.

Sura al-Qaṣaṣ 28:72

قُلْ أَرَءَيْتُمْ إِن جَعَلَ ٱللَّـهُ عَلَيْكُمُ ٱلنَّهَارَ سَرْمَدًا إِلَىٰ يَوْمِ ٱلْقِيَٰمَةِ مَنْ إِلَٰهٌ غَيْرُ ٱللَّـهِ يَأْتِيكُم بِلَيْلٍ تَسْكُنُونَ فِيهِ أَفَلَا تُبْصِرُونَ

qul a-raʾaytum in jaʿala allāhu ʿalaykumu l-nahāra sarmadan ilā yawmi l-qiyāmati man ilāhun ghayru allāhi yaʾtīkum bilaylin taskunūna fīhi a-fa-lā tubṣirūna

Say: See ye? If Allah were to make the day perpetual over you to the Day of Judgment, what god is there other than Allah, who can give you a night in which ye can rest? Will ye not then see?

Sura al-Sajdah 32:12

وَلَوْ تَرَىٰٓ إِذِ ٱلْمُجْرِمُونَ نَاكِسُوا۟ رُءُوسِهِمْ عِندَ رَبِّهِمْ رَبَّنَآ أَبْصَرْنَا وَسَمِعْنَا فَٱرْجِعْنَا نَعْمَلْ صَٰلِحًا إِنَّا مُوقِنُونَ

wa-law tara idhi l-mujrimūna nākisū ruʾūsihim ʿinda rabbihim rabbanā abṣarnā wa-samiʿnā fa-irjiʿnā naʿmal ṣāliḥan innā mūqinūna

If only thou couldst see when the guilty ones will bend low their heads before their Lord, (saying:) "Our Lord! We have seen and we have heard: Now then send us back (to the world): we will work righteousness: for we do indeed (now) believe."

Sura al-Sajdah 32:27

أَوَلَمْ يَرَوْا۟ أَنَّا نَسُوقُ ٱلْمَآءَ إِلَى ٱلْأَرْضِ ٱلْجُرُزِ فَنُخْرِجُ بِهِۦ زَرْعًا تَأْكُلُ مِنْهُ أَنْعَٰمُهُمْ وَأَنفُسُهُمْ أَفَلَا يُبْصِرُونَ

a-wa-lam yaraw annā nasūqu l-māa ilā l-arḍi l-juruzi fa-nukhriju bihi zarʿan taʾkulu minhu anʿāmuhum wa-anfusuhum a-fa-lā yubṣirūna

And do they not see that We do drive rain to parched soil (bare of herbage), and produce therewith crops, providing food for their cattle and themselves? Have they not the vision?

Sura Yā Sin 36:9

وَجَعَلْنَا مِنۢ بَيْنِ أَيْدِيهِمْ سَدًّا وَمِنْ خَلْفِهِمْ سَدًّا فَأَغْشَيْنَٰهُمْ فَهُمْ لَا يُبْصِرُونَ

wa-jaʿalnā min bayni aydīhim saddan wa-min khalfihim saddan fa-aghshaynāhum fa-hum lā yubṣirūna

And We have put a bar in front of them and a bar behind them, and further, We have covered them up; so that they cannot see.

Sura Yā Sin 36:66

وَلَوْ نَشَآءُ لَطَمَسْنَا عَلَىٰٓ أَعْيُنِهِمْ فَٱسْتَبَقُوا۟ ٱلصِّرَٰطَ فَأَنَّىٰ يُبْصِرُونَ

wa-law nashāʾu la-ṭamasnā ʿala aʿyunihim fa-istabaqū l-ṣirāṭa fa-annā yubṣirūna

If it had been our Will, We could surely have blotted out their eyes; then should they have run about groping for the Path, but how could they have seen?

Sura al-Ṣaffāt 37:175

وَأَبْصِرْهُمْ فَسَوْفَ يُبْصِرُونَ

wa-abṣirhum fa-sawfa yubṣirūna

And watch them (how they fare), and they soon shall see (how thou farest)!

Sura al-Ṣaffāt 37:179

وَأَبْصِرْ فَسَوْفَ يُبْصِرُونَ

wa-abṣir fa-sawfa yubṣirūna

And watch (how they fare) and they soon shall see (how thou farest)!

Sura al-Zukhruf 43:51

وَنَادَىٰ فِرْعَوْنُ فِى قَوْمِهِۦ قَالَ يَٰقَوْمِ أَلَيْسَ لِى مُلْكُ مِصْرَ وَهَٰذِهِ ٱلْأَنْهَٰرُ تَجْرِى مِن تَحْتِىٓ أَفَلَا تُبْصِرُونَ

wa-nādā firʿawun fī qawmihi qalā yā-qawmi a-laysa lī mulku miṣra wa-hādhihi l-anhāru tajrī min taḥtī a-fa-lā tubṣirūna

And Pharaoh proclaimed among his people, saying: "O my people! Does not the dominion of Egypt belong to me, (witness) these streams flowing underneath my (palace)? What! see ye not then?

Sura al-Dhāriyāt 51:21

وَفِىٓ أَنفُسِكُمْ أَفَلَا تُبْصِرُونَ

wa-fī anfusikum a-fa-lā tubṣirūna

As also in your own selves: Will ye not then see?

Sura al-Ṭūr 52:15

أَفَسِحْرٌ هَٰذَآ أَمْ أَنتُمْ لَا تُبْصِرُونَ

afasiḥrun hādhā am antum lā tubṣirūna

"Is this then a fake, or is it ye that do not see?

Sura al-Wāqiʿah 56:85

وَنَحْنُ أَقْرَبُ إِلَيْهِ مِنكُمْ وَلَٰكِن لَّا تُبْصِرُونَ

wa-naḥnu aqrabu ilayhi minkum wa-lākin lā tubṣirūna

But We are nearer to him than ye, and yet see not,-

Sura al-Qalam 68:5

فَسَتُبْصِرُ وَيُبْصِرُونَ

fa-sa-tubṣiru wa-yubṣirūna

Soon wilt thou see, and they will see,

Sura al-Ḥāqqah 69:38

فَلَآ أُقْسِمُ بِمَا تُبْصِرُونَ

fa-lā uqsimu bi-mā tubṣirūna

So I do call to witness what ye see,

Sura al-Ḥāqqah 69:39

وَمَا لَا تُبْصِرُونَ

wa-mā lā tubṣirūna

And what ye see not,

Sura al-Maʿārij 70:11

يُبَصَّرُونَهُمْ يَوَدُّ ٱلْمُجْرِمُ لَوْ يَفْتَدِى مِنْ عَذَابِ يَوْمِئِذٍۭ بِبَنِيهِ

yubaṣṣarūnahum yawaddu l-mujrimu law yaftadī min ʿadhābi yawmiʾidhin bi-banīhi

Though they will be put in sight of each other,- the sinner's desire will be: Would that he could redeem himself from the Penalty of that Day by (sacrificing) his children,
