Surah 9 al-Tawbah (Repentance)

فَلْيَضْحَكُوا۟  قَلِيلًا  وَلْيَبْكُوا۟  كَثِيرًا  جَزَآءًۢ  بِمَا  كَانُوا۟  يَكْسِبُونَ fa‑l‑yaḍḥakū qalīlan wa‑l‑yabkū kathīran jazāʾan bi‑mā kānū yaksibūna
Let them laugh a little: much will they weep: a recompense for the (evil) that they do.

Surah 12 Yūsuf (Joseph)
(12:16)

وَجَآءُوٓ  أَبَاهُمْ  عِشَآءً  يَبْكُونَ wa‑jāʾū abāhum ʿishāʾan yabkūna
Then they came to their father in the early part of the night, weeping.

Surah 17 al-Isrāʾ (The Children of Israel)
(17:109)

وَيَخِرُّونَ  لِلْأَذْقَانِ  يَبْكُونَ  وَيَزِيدُهُمْ  خُشُوعًا wa‑yakhirrūna lil‑adhqāni yabkūna wa‑yazīduhum khushūʿan
They fall down on their faces in tears, and it increases their (earnest) humility.

Surah 44 al-Dukhān (The Evident Smoke)
(44:29)

فَمَا  بَكَتْ  عَلَيْهِمُ  ٱلسَّمَآءُ  وَٱلْأَرْضُ  وَمَا  كَانُوا۟  مُنظَرِينَ fa‑mā bakat ʿalayhimu l‑samāʾu wa‑l‑arḍu wa‑mā kānū munẓarīna
And neither heaven nor earth shed a tear over them: nor were they given a respite (again).

Surah 53 al-Najm (The Star)
(53:43)

وَأَنَّهُۥ  هُوَ  أَضْحَكَ  وَأَبْكَىٰ wa‑annahu huwa aḍḥaka wa‑abkā
That it is He Who granteth Laughter and Tears;
(53:60)

وَتَضْحَكُونَ  وَلَا  تَبْكُونَ wa‑taḍḥakūna wa‑lā tabkūna
And will ye laugh and not weep,-
