Surah 4 al-Nisāʾ (The Women)

(4:107)

وَلَا  تُجَٰدِلْ  عَنِ  ٱلَّذِينَ  يَخْتَانُونَ  أَنفُسَهُمْ  إِنَّ  ٱللَّـهَ  لَا  يُحِبُّ  مَن  كَانَ  خَوَّانًا  أَثِيمًا wa‑lā tujādil ʿani lladhīna yakhtānūna anfusahum inna allāha yuḥibbu man kāna khawwānan athīman
Contend not on behalf of such as betray their own souls; for Allah loveth not one given to perfidy and crime:
(4:109)

هَٰٓأَنتُمْ  هَٰٓؤُلَآءِ  جَٰدَلْتُمْ  عَنْهُمْ  فِى  ٱلْحَيَوٰةِ  ٱلدُّنْيَا  فَمَن  يُجَٰدِلُ  ٱللَّـهَ  عَنْهُمْ  يَوْمَ  ٱلْقِيَٰمَةِ  أَم  مَّن  يَكُونُ  عَلَيْهِمْ  وَكِيلًا hā‑antum hāʾulāʾi jādaltum ʿanhum l‑ḥayāti l‑dunyā fa‑man yujādilu allāha ʿanhum yawma l‑qiyāmati am man yakūnu ʿalayhim wakīlan
Ah! These are the sort of men on whose behalf ye may contend in this world; but who will contend with Allah on their behalf on the Day of Judgment, or who will carry their affairs through?

Surah 11 Hūd (Hud)
(11:32)

قَالُوا۟  يَٰنُوحُ  قَدْ  جَٰدَلْتَنَا  فَأَكْثَرْتَ  جِدَٰلَنَا  فَأْتِنَا  بِمَا  تَعِدُنَآ  إِن  كُنتَ  مِنَ  ٱلصَّٰدِقِينَ qālū yānūḥu qad jādaltanā fa‑aktharta jidālanā fa‑ʾtinā bi‑mā taʿidunā in kunta mina l‑ṣādiqīna
They said: "O Noah! thou hast disputed with us, and (much) hast thou prolonged the dispute with us: now bring upon us what thou threatenest us with, if thou speakest the truth!?"
(11:74)

فَلَمَّا  ذَهَبَ  عَنْ  إِبْرَٰهِيمَ  ٱلرَّوْعُ  وَجَآءَتْهُ  ٱلْبُشْرَىٰ  يُجَٰدِلُنَا  فِى  قَوْمِ  لُوطٍ fa‑lammā dhahaba ʿan ibrāhīma l‑rawʿu wa‑jāathu l‑bushrā yujādilunā qawmi lūṭin
When fear had passed from (the mind of) Abraham and the glad tidings had reached him, he began to plead with us for Lut's people.

Surah 16 al-Naḥl (The Bee)
(16:111)

يَوْمَ  تَأْتِى  كُلُّ  نَفْسٍ  تُجَٰدِلُ  عَن  نَّفْسِهَا  وَتُوَفَّىٰ  كُلُّ  نَفْسٍ  مَّا  عَمِلَتْ  وَهُمْ  لَا  يُظْلَمُونَ yawma tatī kullu nafsin tujādilu ʿan nnafsihā wa‑tuwaffā kullu nafsin ʿamilat wa‑hum yuẓlamūna
One Day every soul will come up struggling for itself, and every soul will be recompensed (fully) for all its actions, and none will be unjustly dealt with.
(16:125)

ٱدْعُ  إِلَىٰ  سَبِيلِ  رَبِّكَ  بِٱلْحِكْمَةِ  وَٱلْمَوْعِظَةِ  ٱلْحَسَنَةِ  وَجَٰدِلْهُم  بِٱلَّتِى  هِىَ  أَحْسَنُ  إِنَّ  رَبَّكَ  هُوَ  أَعْلَمُ  بِمَن  ضَلَّ  عَن  سَبِيلِهِۦ  وَهُوَ  أَعْلَمُ  بِٱلْمُهْتَدِينَ idʿu ilā sabīli rabbika bil‑ḥikmati wa‑l‑mawʿiẓati l‑ḥasanati wa‑jādilhum billatī hiya aḥsanu inna rabbaka huwa aʿlamu biman ḍalla ʿan sabīlihi wa‑huwa aʿlamu bil‑muhtadīna
Invite (all) to the Way of thy Lord with wisdom and beautiful preaching; and argue with them in ways that are best and most gracious: for thy Lord knoweth best, who have strayed from His Path, and who receive guidance.

Surah 18 al-Kahf (The Cave)
(18:56)

وَمَا  نُرْسِلُ  ٱلْمُرْسَلِينَ  إِلَّا  مُبَشِّرِينَ  وَمُنذِرِينَ  وَيُجَٰدِلُ  ٱلَّذِينَ  كَفَرُوا۟  بِٱلْبَٰطِلِ  لِيُدْحِضُوا۟  بِهِ  ٱلْحَقَّ  وَٱتَّخَذُوٓا۟  ءَايَٰتِى  وَمَآ  أُنذِرُوا۟  هُزُوًا wa‑mā nursilu l‑mursalīna illā mubashshirīna wa‑mundhirīna wa‑yujādilu lladhīna kafarū bil‑bāṭili li‑yudḥiḍū bihi l‑ḥaqqa wa‑attakhadhū āyātī wa‑mā undhirū huzuwan
We only send the messengers to give Glad Tidings and to give warnings: But the unbelievers dispute with vain argument, in order therewith to weaken the truth, and they treat My Signs as a jest, as also the fact that they are warned!

Surah 22 al-Ḥajj (The Pilgrimage)
(22:3)

وَمِنَ  ٱلنَّاسِ  مَن  يُجَٰدِلُ  فِى  ٱللَّـهِ  بِغَيْرِ  عِلْمٍ  وَيَتَّبِعُ  كُلَّ  شَيْطَٰنٍ  مَّرِيدٍ wa‑mina l‑nāsi man yujādilu allāhi bi‑ghayri ʿilmin wa‑yattabiʿu kulla shayṭānin marīdin
And yet among men there are such as dispute about Allah, without knowledge, and follow every evil one obstinate in rebellion!
(22:8)

وَمِنَ  ٱلنَّاسِ  مَن  يُجَٰدِلُ  فِى  ٱللَّـهِ  بِغَيْرِ  عِلْمٍ  وَلَا  هُدًى  وَلَا  كِتَٰبٍ  مُّنِيرٍ wa‑mina l‑nāsi man yujādilu allāhi bi‑ghayri ʿilmin wa‑lā hudan wa‑lā kitābin munīrin
Yet there is among men such a one as disputes about Allah, without Knowledge, without Guidance, and without a Book of Enlightenment,-

Surah 31 Luqmān (Lukman)
(31:20)

أَلَمْ  تَرَوْا۟  أَنَّ  ٱللَّـهَ  سَخَّرَ  لَكُم  مَّا  فِى  ٱلسَّمَٰوَٰتِ  وَمَا  فِى  ٱلْأَرْضِ  وَأَسْبَغَ  عَلَيْكُمْ  نِعَمَهُۥ  ظَٰهِرَةً  وَبَاطِنَةً  وَمِنَ  ٱلنَّاسِ  مَن  يُجَٰدِلُ  فِى  ٱللَّـهِ  بِغَيْرِ  عِلْمٍ  وَلَا  هُدًى  وَلَا  كِتَٰبٍ  مُّنِيرٍ a‑lam taraw annā allāha sakhkhara la‑kum l‑samāwāti wa‑mā l‑arḍi wa‑asbagha ʿalaykum niʿamahu ẓāhiratan wa‑bāṭinatan wa‑mina l‑nāsi man yujādilu allāhi bi‑ghayri ʿilmin wa‑lā hudan wa‑lā kitābin munīrin
Do ye not see that Allah has subjected to your (use) all things in the heavens and on earth, and has made his bounties flow to you in exceeding measure, (both) seen and unseen? Yet there are among men those who dispute about Allah, without knowledge and without guidance, and without a Book to enlighten them!

Surah 40 al-Ghāfir (The Forgiving One)
(40:4)

مَا  يُجَٰدِلُ  فِىٓ  ءَايَٰتِ  ٱللَّـهِ  إِلَّا  ٱلَّذِينَ  كَفَرُوا۟  فَلَا  يَغْرُرْكَ  تَقَلُّبُهُمْ  فِى  ٱلْبِلَٰدِ yujādilu āyāti allāhi illā lladhīna kafarū fa‑lā yaghrurka taqallubuhum l‑bilādi
None can dispute about the Signs of Allah but the Unbelievers. Let not, then, their strutting about through the land deceive thee!

Surah 58 al-Mujādilah (She Who Pleaded)
(58:1)

قَدْ  سَمِعَ  ٱللَّـهُ  قَوْلَ  ٱلَّتِى  تُجَٰدِلُكَ  فِى  زَوْجِهَا  وَتَشْتَكِىٓ  إِلَى  ٱللَّـهِ  وَٱللَّـهُ  يَسْمَعُ  تَحَاوُرَكُمَآ  إِنَّ  ٱللَّـهَ  سَمِيعٌۢ  بَصِيرٌ qad samiʿa allāhu qawla allatī tujādiluka zawjihā wa‑tashtakī ilā allāhi wallāhu yasmaʿu taḥāwurakumā inna allāha samīʿun baṣīrun
Allah has indeed heard (and accepted) the statement of the woman who pleads with thee concerning her husband and carries her complaint (in prayer) to Allah: and Allah (always) hears the arguments between both sides among you: for Allah hears and sees (all things).
