Surah 4 al-Nisāʾ (The Women)

(4:148)

لَّا  يُحِبُّ  ٱللَّـهُ  ٱلْجَهْرَ  بِٱلسُّوٓءِ  مِنَ  ٱلْقَوْلِ  إِلَّا  مَن  ظُلِمَ  وَكَانَ  ٱللَّـهُ  سَمِيعًا  عَلِيمًا yuḥibbu allāhu l‑jahra bil‑sūʾi mina l‑qawli illā man ẓulima wa‑kāna allāhu samīʿan ʿalīman
Allah loveth not that evil should be noised abroad in public speech, except where injustice hath been done; for Allah is He who heareth and knoweth all things.
(4:153)

يَسْـَٔلُكَ  أَهْلُ  ٱلْكِتَٰبِ  أَن  تُنَزِّلَ  عَلَيْهِمْ  كِتَٰبًا  مِّنَ  ٱلسَّمَآءِ  فَقَدْ  سَأَلُوا۟  مُوسَىٰٓ  أَكْبَرَ  مِن  ذَٰلِكَ  فَقَالُوٓا۟  أَرِنَا  ٱللَّـهَ  جَهْرَةً  فَأَخَذَتْهُمُ  ٱلصَّٰعِقَةُ  بِظُلْمِهِمْ  ثُمَّ  ٱتَّخَذُوا۟  ٱلْعِجْلَ  مِنۢ  بَعْدِ  مَا  جَآءَتْهُمُ  ٱلْبَيِّنَٰتُ  فَعَفَوْنَا  عَن  ذَٰلِكَ  وَءَاتَيْنَا  مُوسَىٰ  سُلْطَٰنًا  مُّبِينًا yasʾaluka ahlu l‑kitābi an tunazzila ʿalayhim kitāban mina l‑samāʾi fa‑qad sāʾalū mūsā akbara min dhālika fa‑qālū arinā allāha jahratan fa‑akhadhathumu l‑ṣāʿiqatu bi‑ẓulmihim thumma ittakhadhū l‑ʿijla min baʿdi jāʾathumu l‑bayyinātu fa‑ʿafawnā ʿan dhālika wa‑ātaynā mūsā sulṭānan mubīnan
The people of the Book ask thee to cause a book to descend to them from heaven: Indeed they asked Moses for an even greater (miracle), for they said: "Show us Allah in public," but they were dazed for their presumption, with thunder and lightning. Yet they worshipped the calf even after clear signs had come to them; even so we forgave them; and gave Moses manifest proofs of authority.

Surah 6 al-Anʿām (The Cattle)
(6:3)

وَهُوَ  ٱللَّـهُ  فِى  ٱلسَّمَٰوَٰتِ  وَفِى  ٱلْأَرْضِ  يَعْلَمُ  سِرَّكُمْ  وَجَهْرَكُمْ  وَيَعْلَمُ  مَا  تَكْسِبُونَ wa‑huwa allāhu l‑samāwāti wa‑fī l‑arḍi yaʿlamu sirrakum wa‑jahrakum wa‑yaʿlamu taksibūna
And He is Allah in the heavens and on earth. He knoweth what ye hide, and what ye reveal, and He knoweth the (recompense) which ye earn (by your deeds).
(6:47)

قُلْ  أَرَءَيْتَكُمْ  إِنْ  أَتَىٰكُمْ  عَذَابُ  ٱللَّـهِ  بَغْتَةً  أَوْ  جَهْرَةً  هَلْ  يُهْلَكُ  إِلَّا  ٱلْقَوْمُ  ٱلظَّٰلِمُونَ qul a‑raʾaytakum in atakum ʿadhābu allāhi baghtatan aw jahratan hal yuhlaku illā l‑qawmu l‑ẓālimūna
Say: "Think ye, if the punishment of Allah comes to you, whether suddenly or openly, will any be destroyed except those who do wrong?

Surah 7 al-Aʿrāf (The Heights)
(7:205)

وَٱذْكُر  رَّبَّكَ  فِى  نَفْسِكَ  تَضَرُّعًا  وَخِيفَةً  وَدُونَ  ٱلْجَهْرِ  مِنَ  ٱلْقَوْلِ  بِٱلْغُدُوِّ  وَٱلْأَصَالِ  وَلَا  تَكُن  مِّنَ  ٱلْغَٰفِلِينَ wa‑idhkur rabbaka nafsika taḍarruʿan wa‑khīfatan wa‑dūna l‑jahri mina l‑qawli bil‑ghuduwwi wa‑l‑aṣāli wa‑lā takun mina l‑ghāfilīna
And do thou (O reader!) Bring thy Lord to remembrance in thy (very) soul, with humility and in reverence, without loudness in words, in the mornings and evenings; and be not thou of those who are unheedful.

Surah 16 al-Naḥl (The Bee)
(16:75)

ضَرَبَ  ٱللَّـهُ  مَثَلًا  عَبْدًا  مَّمْلُوكًا  لَّا  يَقْدِرُ  عَلَىٰ  شَىْءٍ  وَمَن  رَّزَقْنَٰهُ  مِنَّا  رِزْقًا  حَسَنًا  فَهُوَ  يُنفِقُ  مِنْهُ  سِرًّا  وَجَهْرًا  هَلْ  يَسْتَوُۥنَ  ٱلْحَمْدُ  لِلَّـهِ  بَلْ  أَكْثَرُهُمْ  لَا  يَعْلَمُونَ ḍaraba allāhu mathalan ʿabdan mamlūkan yaqdiru ʿalā shayʾin wa‑man rrazaqnāhu minnā rizqan ḥasanan fa‑huwa yunfiqu minhu sirran wa‑jahran hal yastawuna l‑ḥamdu lillāhi bal aktharuhum yaʿlamūna
Allah sets forth the Parable (of two men: one) a slave under the dominion of another; He has no power of any sort; and (the other) a man on whom We have bestowed goodly favours from Ourselves, and he spends thereof (freely), privately and publicly: are the two equal? (By no means;) praise be to Allah. But most of them understand not.

Surah 21 al-Anbiyāʾ (The Prophets)
(21:110)

إِنَّهُۥ  يَعْلَمُ  ٱلْجَهْرَ  مِنَ  ٱلْقَوْلِ  وَيَعْلَمُ  مَا  تَكْتُمُونَ innahu yaʿlamu l‑jahra mina l‑qawli wa‑yaʿlamu taktumūna
"It is He Who knows what is open in speech and what ye hide (in your hearts).

Surah 49 al-Ḥujurāt (The Chambers)
(49:2)

يَٰٓأَيُّهَا  ٱلَّذِينَ  ءَامَنُوا۟  لَا  تَرْفَعُوٓا۟  أَصْوَٰتَكُمْ  فَوْقَ  صَوْتِ  ٱلنَّبِىِّ  وَلَا  تَجْهَرُوا۟  لَهُۥ  بِٱلْقَوْلِ  كَجَهْرِ  بَعْضِكُمْ  لِبَعْضٍ  أَن  تَحْبَطَ  أَعْمَٰلُكُمْ  وَأَنتُمْ  لَا  تَشْعُرُونَ yā‑ayyuhā lladhīna āmanū tarfaʿū aṣwātakum fawqa ṣawti l‑nabiyyi wa‑lā tajharū lahu bil‑qawli kajahri baʿḍikum li‑baʿḍin an taḥbaṭa aʿmālukum wa‑antum tashʿurūna
O ye who believe! Raise not your voices above the voice of the Prophet, nor speak aloud to him in talk, as ye may speak aloud to one another, lest your deeds become vain and ye perceive not.

Surah 71 Nūḥ (Noah)
(71:8)

ثُمَّ  إِنِّى  دَعَوْتُهُمْ  جِهَارًا thumma innī daʿawtuhum jihāran
"So I have called to them aloud;

Surah 87 al-Aʿlā (The Most High)
(87:7)

إِلَّا  مَا  شَآءَ  ٱللَّـهُ  إِنَّهُۥ  يَعْلَمُ  ٱلْجَهْرَ  وَمَا  يَخْفَىٰ illā shāʾa allāhu innahu yaʿlamu l‑jahra wa‑mā yakhfā
Except as Allah wills: For He knoweth what is manifest and what is hidden.
