Surah 2 al-Baqara (The Cow)
RefArabic    TransliterationTranslation
(2:26)

إِنَّ  ٱللَّـهَ  لَا  يَسْتَحْىِۦٓ  أَن  يَضْرِبَ  مَثَلًا  مَّا  بَعُوضَةً  فَمَا  فَوْقَهَا  فَأَمَّا  ٱلَّذِينَ  ءَامَنُوا۟  فَيَعْلَمُونَ  أَنَّهُ  ٱلْحَقُّ  مِن  رَّبِّهِمْ  وَأَمَّا  ٱلَّذِينَ  كَفَرُوا۟  فَيَقُولُونَ  مَاذَآ  أَرَادَ  ٱللَّـهُ  بِهَٰذَا  مَثَلًا  يُضِلُّ  بِهِۦ  كَثِيرًا  وَيَهْدِى  بِهِۦ  كَثِيرًا  وَمَا  يُضِلُّ  بِهِۦٓ  إِلَّا  ٱلْفَٰسِقِينَ inna allāha yastaḥyi an yaḍriba mathalan baʿūḍatan fa‑mā fawqahā fa‑ammā lladhīna āmanū fayaʿlamūna annahu l‑ḥaqqu min rabbihim wa‑ammā lladhīna kafarū fayaqūlūna mādhā arāda allāhu bi‑hādhā mathalan yuḍillu bihi kathīran wa‑yahdī bihi kathīran wa‑mā yuḍillu bihi illā l‑fāsiqīna
Allah disdains not to use the similitude of things, lowest as well as highest. Those who believe know that it is truth from their Lord; but those who reject Faith say: "What means Allah by this similitude?" By it He causes many to stray, and many He leads into the right path; but He causes not to stray, except those who forsake (the path),-
(2:28)

How can ye reject the faith in Allah?- seeing that ye were without life, and He gave you life; then will He cause you to die, and will again bring you to life; and again to Him will ye return.
(2:49)

وَإِذْ  نَجَّيْنَٰكُم  مِّنْ  ءَالِ  فِرْعَوْنَ  يَسُومُونَكُمْ  سُوٓءَ  ٱلْعَذَابِ  يُذَبِّحُونَ  أَبْنَآءَكُمْ  وَيَسْتَحْيُونَ  نِسَآءَكُمْ  وَفِى  ذَٰلِكُم  بَلَآءٌ  مِّن  رَّبِّكُمْ  عَظِيمٌ wa‑idh najjaynākum min āli firʿawna yasūmūnakum suʾa l‑ʿadhābi yudhabbiḥūna abnāʾakum wa‑yastaḥyūna nisāʾakum wa‑fī dhālikum balāʾun min rabbikum ʿaẓīmun
And remember, We delivered you from the people of Pharaoh: They set you hard tasks and punishments, slaughtered your sons and let your women-folk live; therein was a tremendous trial from your Lord.
(2:73)

So We said: "Strike the (body) with a piece of the (heifer)." Thus Allah bringeth the dead to life and showeth you His Signs: Perchance ye may understand.
(2:164)

Behold! in the creation of the heavens and the earth; in the alternation of the night and the day; in the sailing of the ships through the ocean for the profit of mankind; in the rain which Allah Sends down from the skies, and the life which He gives therewith to an earth that is dead; in the beasts of all kinds that He scatters through the earth; in the change of the winds, and the clouds which they Trail like their slaves between the sky and the earth;- (Here) indeed are Signs for a people that are wise.
(2:243)

Didst thou not Turn by vision to those who abandoned their homes, though they were thousands (In number), for fear of death? Allah said to them: "Die": Then He restored them to life. For Allah is full of bounty to mankind, but Most of them are ungrateful.
(2:258)

Hast thou not Turned thy vision to one who disputed with Abraham About his Lord, because Allah had granted him power? Abraham said: "My Lord is He Who Giveth life and death." He said: "I give life and death". Said Abraham: "But it is Allah that causeth the sun to rise from the east: Do thou then cause him to rise from the West." Thus was he confounded who (in arrogance) rejected faith. Nor doth Allah Give guidance to a people unjust.

Or (take) the similitude of one who passed by a hamlet, all in ruins to its roofs. He said: "Oh! how shall Allah bring it (ever) to life, after (this) its death?" but Allah caused him to die for a hundred years, then raised him up (again). He said: "How long didst thou tarry (thus)?" He said: (Perhaps) a day or part of a day." He said: "Nay, thou hast tarried thus a hundred years; but look at thy food and thy drink; they show no signs of age; and look at thy donkey: And that We may make of thee a sign unto the people, Look further at the bones, how We bring them together and clothe them with flesh." When this was shown clearly to him, he said: "I know that Allah hath power over all things."

When Abraham said: "Show me, Lord, how You will raise the dead, " He replied: "Have you no faith?" He said "Yes, but just to reassure my heart." Allah said, "Take four birds, draw them to you, and cut their bodies to pieces. Scatter them over the mountain-tops, then call them back. They will come swiftly to you. Know that Allah is Mighty, Wise."

O ye who believe! Be not like the Unbelievers, who say of their brethren, when they are travelling through the Earth or engaged in fighting: "If they had stayed with us, they would not have died, or been slain." This that Allah may make it a cause of sighs and regrets in their hearts. It is Allah that gives Life and Death, and Allah sees well all that ye do.

Surah 5 al-Māʾidah (The Table Spread)
(5:32)

On that account: We ordained for the Children of Israel that if any one slew a person - unless it be for murder or for spreading mischief in the land - it would be as if he slew the whole people: and if any one saved a life, it would be as if he saved the life of the whole people. Then although there came to them Our messengers with clear signs, yet, even after that, many of them continued to commit excesses in the land.

Surah 6 al-Anʿām (The Cattle)

Can he who was dead, to whom We gave life, and a light whereby he can walk amongst men, be like him who is in the depths of darkness, from which he can never come out? Thus to those without faith their own deeds seem pleasing.

Remember ye were on the hither side of the valley, and they on the farther side, and the caravan on lower ground than ye. Even if ye had made a mutual appointment to meet, ye would certainly have failed in the appointment: But (thus ye met), that Allah might accomplish a matter already enacted; that those who died might die after a clear Sign (had been given), and those who lived might live after a Clear Sign (had been given). And verily Allah is He Who heareth and knoweth (all things).

Surah 9 al-Tawbah (Repentance)
(9:116)

Unto Allah belongeth the dominion of the heavens and the earth. He giveth life and He taketh it. Except for Him ye have no protector nor helper.

Surah 10 Yūnus (Jonah)
(10:56)

It is He Who giveth life and who taketh it, and to Him shall ye all be brought back.

Surah 14 Ibrāhīm (Abraham)
(14:6)

وَإِذْ  قَالَ  مُوسَىٰ  لِقَوْمِهِ  ٱذْكُرُوا۟  نِعْمَةَ  ٱللَّـهِ  عَلَيْكُمْ  إِذْ  أَنجَىٰكُم  مِّنْ  ءَالِ  فِرْعَوْنَ  يَسُومُونَكُمْ  سُوٓءَ  ٱلْعَذَابِ  وَيُذَبِّحُونَ  أَبْنَآءَكُمْ  وَيَسْتَحْيُونَ  نِسَآءَكُمْ  وَفِى  ذَٰلِكُم  بَلَآءٌ  مِّن  رَّبِّكُمْ  عَظِيمٌ wa‑idh qalā mūsā li‑qawmihi idhkurū niʿmata allāhi ʿalaykum idh anjakum min āli firʿawna yasūmūnakum suʾa l‑ʿadhābi wa‑yudhabbiḥūna abnāʾakum wa‑yastaḥyūna nisāʾakum wa‑fī dhālikum balāʾun min rabbikum ʿaẓīmun
Remember! Moses said to his people: "Call to mind the favour of Allah to you when He delivered you from the people of Pharaoh: they set you hard tasks and punishments, slaughtered your sons, and let your women-folk live: therein was a tremendous trial from your Lord."

Surah 15 al-Ḥijr (The Rocky Tract)
(15:23)

And verily, it is We Who give life, and Who give death: it is We Who remain inheritors (after all else passes away).

Surah 16 al-Naḥl (The Bee)
(16:65)

وَٱللَّـهُ  أَنزَلَ  مِنَ  ٱلسَّمَآءِ  مَآءً  فَأَحْيَا  بِهِ  ٱلْأَرْضَ  بَعْدَ  مَوْتِهَآ  إِنَّ  فِى  ذَٰلِكَ  لَءَايَةً  لِّقَوْمٍ  يَسْمَعُونَ wallāhu anzala mina l‑samāʾi māʾan faaḥyā bihi l‑arḍa baʿda mawtihā inna dhālika la‑āyatan li‑qawmin yasmaʿūna
And Allah sends down rain from the skies, and gives therewith life to the earth after its death: verily in this is a Sign for those who listen.

Whoever works righteousness, man or woman, and has Faith, verily, to him will We give a new Life, a life that is good and pure and We will bestow on such their reward according to the best of their actions.

Surah 20 Ṭā Hā (Ta-Ha)
(20:74)

إِنَّهُۥ  مَن  يَأْتِ  رَبَّهُۥ  مُجْرِمًا  فَإِنَّ  لَهُۥ  جَهَنَّمَ  لَا  يَمُوتُ  فِيهَا  وَلَا  يَحْيَىٰ innahu man yaʾti rabbahu mujriman fa‑inna lahu jahannama yamūtu fīhā wa‑lā yaḥyā
Verily he who comes to his Lord as a sinner (at Judgment),- for him is Hell: therein shall he neither die nor live.

Surah 22 al-Ḥajj (The Pilgrimage)
(22:6)

ذَٰلِكَ  بِأَنَّ  ٱللَّـهَ  هُوَ  ٱلْحَقُّ  وَأَنَّهُۥ  يُحْىِ  ٱلْمَوْتَىٰ  وَأَنَّهُۥ  عَلَىٰ  كُلِّ  شَىْءٍ  قَدِيرٌ dhālika bi‑anna allāha huwa l‑ḥaqqu wa‑annahu yuḥyi l‑mawtā wa‑annahu ʿalā kulli shayʾin qadīrun
This is so, because Allah is the Reality: it is He Who gives life to the dead, and it is He Who has power over all things.
(22:66)

It is He Who gave you life, will cause you to die, and will again give you life: Truly man is a most ungrateful creature!

Surah 23 al-Muʾminūn (The Believers)
(23:37)

إِنْ  هِىَ  إِلَّا  حَيَاتُنَا  ٱلدُّنْيَا  نَمُوتُ  وَنَحْيَا  وَمَا  نَحْنُ  بِمَبْعُوثِينَ in hiya illā ḥayātunā l‑dunyā namūtu wa‑naḥyā wa‑mā naḥnu bi‑mabʿūthīna
"There is nothing but our life in this world! We shall die and we live! But we shall never be raised up again!

It is He Who gives life and death, and to Him (is due) the alternation of Night and Day: will ye not then understand?

Surah 25 al-Furqān (The Criterion)
(25:49)

لِّنُحْۦِىَ  بِهِۦ  بَلْدَةً  مَّيْتًا  وَنُسْقِيَهُۥ  مِمَّا  خَلَقْنَآ  أَنْعَٰمًا  وَأَنَاسِىَّ  كَثِيرًا li‑nuḥiya bihi baldatan maytan wa‑nusqiyahu mimmā khalaqnā anʿāman wa‑anāsiyya kathīran
That with it We may give life to a dead land, and slake the thirst of things We have created,- cattle and men in great numbers.

Surah 26 al-Shuʿarā (The Poets)
(26:81)

Surah 28 al-Qaṣaṣ (The Narrative)
(28:4)

إِنَّ  فِرْعَوْنَ  عَلَا  فِى  ٱلْأَرْضِ  وَجَعَلَ  أَهْلَهَا  شِيَعًا  يَسْتَضْعِفُ  طَآئِفَةً  مِّنْهُمْ  يُذَبِّحُ  أَبْنَآءَهُمْ  وَيَسْتَحْىِۦ  نِسَآءَهُمْ  إِنَّهُۥ  كَانَ  مِنَ  ٱلْمُفْسِدِينَ inna firʿawna ʿalā l‑arḍi wa‑jaʿala ahlahā shiyaʿan yastaḍʿifu ṭāʾifatan minhum yudhabbiḥu abnāʾahum wa‑yastaḥyi nisāʾahum innahu kāna mina l‑mufsidīna
Truly Pharaoh elated himself in the land and broke up its people into sections, depressing a small group among them: their sons he slew, but he kept alive their females: for he was indeed a maker of mischief.

Surah 29 al-ʿAnkabūt (The Spider)
(29:63)

وَلَئِن  سَأَلْتَهُم  مَّن  نَّزَّلَ  مِنَ  ٱلسَّمَآءِ  مَآءً  فَأَحْيَا  بِهِ  ٱلْأَرْضَ  مِنۢ  بَعْدِ  مَوْتِهَا  لَيَقُولُنَّ  ٱللَّـهُ  قُلِ  ٱلْحَمْدُ  لِلَّـهِ  بَلْ  أَكْثَرُهُمْ  لَا  يَعْقِلُونَ wa‑laʾin saʾaltahum man nnazzala mina l‑samāʾi māʾan fa‑aḥyā bihi l‑arḍa min baʿdi mawtihā la‑yaqūlunna allāhu quli l‑ḥamdu lillāhi bal aktharuhum yaʿqilūna
And if indeed thou ask them who it is that sends down rain from the sky, and gives life therewith to the earth after its death, they will certainly reply, "Allah!" Say, "Praise be to Allah!" But most of them understand not.

Surah 30 al-Rūm (The Romans)
(30:19)

It is He Who brings out the living from the dead, and brings out the dead from the living, and Who gives life to the earth after it is dead: and thus shall ye be brought out (from the dead).
(30:24)

وَمِنْ  ءَايَٰتِهِۦ  يُرِيكُمُ  ٱلْبَرْقَ  خَوْفًا  وَطَمَعًا  وَيُنَزِّلُ  مِنَ  ٱلسَّمَآءِ  مَآءً  فَيُحْىِۦ  بِهِ  ٱلْأَرْضَ  بَعْدَ  مَوْتِهَآ  إِنَّ  فِى  ذَٰلِكَ  لَءَايَٰتٍ  لِّقَوْمٍ  يَعْقِلُونَ wa‑min āyātihi yurīkumu l‑barqa khawfan wa‑ṭamaʿan wa‑yunazzilu mina l‑samāʾi māʾan fa‑yuḥyi bihi l‑arḍa baʿda mawtihā inna dhālika la‑āyātin li‑qawmin yaʿqilūna
And among His Signs, He shows you the lightning, by way both of fear and of hope, and He sends down rain from the sky and with it gives life to the earth after it is dead: verily in that are Signs for those who are wise.
(30:40)

ٱللَّـهُ  ٱلَّذِى  خَلَقَكُمْ  ثُمَّ  رَزَقَكُمْ  ثُمَّ  يُمِيتُكُمْ  ثُمَّ  يُحْيِيكُمْ  هَلْ  مِن  شُرَكَآئِكُم  مَّن  يَفْعَلُ  مِن  ذَٰلِكُم  مِّن  شَىْءٍ  سُبْحَٰنَهُۥ  وَتَعَٰلَىٰ  عَمَّا  يُشْرِكُونَ allāhu alladhī khalaqakum thumma razaqakum thumma yumītukum thumma yuḥyīkum hal min shurakāʾikum man yafʿalu min dhālikum min shayʾin subḥānahu wa‑taʿāla ʿammā yushrikūna
It is Allah Who has created you: further, He has provided for your sustenance; then He will cause you to die; and again He will give you life. Are there any of your (false) "Partners" who can do any single one of these things? Glory to Him! and high is He above the partners they attribute (to him)!
(30:50)

فَٱنظُرْ  إِلَىٰٓ  ءَاثَٰرِ  رَحْمَتِ  ٱللَّـهِ  كَيْفَ  يُحْىِ  ٱلْأَرْضَ  بَعْدَ  مَوْتِهَآ  إِنَّ  ذَٰلِكَ  لَمُحْىِ  ٱلْمَوْتَىٰ  وَهُوَ  عَلَىٰ  كُلِّ  شَىْءٍ  قَدِيرٌ fa‑inẓur ila āthāri raḥmati allāhi kayfa yuḥyi l‑arḍa baʿda mawtihā inna dhālika la‑muḥi l‑mawtā wa‑huwa ʿalā kulli shayʾin qadīrun
Then contemplate (O man!) the memorials of Allah's Mercy!- how He gives life to the earth after its death: verily the same will give life to the men who are dead: for He has power over all things.

Surah 33 al-Aḥzāb (The Allies)
(33:53)

يَٰٓأَيُّهَا  ٱلَّذِينَ  ءَامَنُوا۟  لَا  تَدْخُلُوا۟  بُيُوتَ  ٱلنَّبِىِّ  إِلَّآ  أَن  يُؤْذَنَ  لَكُمْ  إِلَىٰ  طَعَامٍ  غَيْرَ  نَٰظِرِينَ  إِنَىٰهُ  وَلَٰكِنْ  إِذَا  دُعِيتُمْ  فَٱدْخُلُوا۟  فَإِذَا  طَعِمْتُمْ  فَٱنتَشِرُوا۟  وَلَا  مُسْتَـْٔنِسِينَ  لِحَدِيثٍ  إِنَّ  ذَٰلِكُمْ  كَانَ  يُؤْذِى  ٱلنَّبِىَّ  فَيَسْتَحْىِۦ  مِنكُمْ  وَٱللَّـهُ  لَا  يَسْتَحْىِۦ  مِنَ  ٱلْحَقِّ  وَإِذَا  سَأَلْتُمُوهُنَّ  مَتَٰعًا  فَسْـَٔلُوهُنَّ  مِن  وَرَآءِ  حِجَابٍ  ذَٰلِكُمْ  أَطْهَرُ  لِقُلُوبِكُمْ  وَقُلُوبِهِنَّ  وَمَا  كَانَ  لَكُمْ  أَن  تُؤْذُوا۟  رَسُولَ  ٱللَّـهِ  وَلَآ  أَن  تَنكِحُوٓا۟  أَزْوَٰجَهُۥ  مِنۢ  بَعْدِهِۦٓ  أَبَدًا  إِنَّ  ذَٰلِكُمْ  كَانَ  عِندَ  ٱللَّـهِ  عَظِيمًا yā‑ayyuhā lladhīna āmanū tadkhulū buyūta l‑nabiyyi illā an yudhana la‑kum ilā ṭaʿāmin ghayra nāẓirīna inahu wa‑lākin idhā duʿītum fa‑idkhulū fa‑idhā ṭaʿimtum fa‑intashirū wa‑lā mustaʾnisīna li‑ḥadīthin inna dhālikum kāna yuʾdhī l‑nabiyya fa‑yastaḥyi minkum wallāhu yastaḥyi mina l‑ḥaqqi wa‑idhā saʾaltumūhunna matāʿan fa‑sʾalūhunna min warāʾi ḥijābin dhālikum aṭharu li‑qulūbikum wa‑qulūbihinna wa‑mā kāna la‑kum an tuʾdhū rasūla allāhi wa‑lā an tankiḥū azwājahu min baʿdihi abadan inna dhālikum kāna ʿinda allāhi ʿaẓīman
O ye who believe! Enter not the Prophet's houses,- until leave is given you,- for a meal, (and then) not (so early as) to wait for its preparation: but when ye are invited, enter; and when ye have taken your meal, disperse, without seeking familiar talk. Such (behaviour) annoys the Prophet: he is ashamed to dismiss you, but Allah is not ashamed (to tell you) the truth. And when ye ask (his ladies) for anything ye want, ask them from before a screen: that makes for greater purity for your hearts and for theirs. Nor is it right for you that ye should annoy Allah's Messenger, or that ye should marry his widows after him at any time. Truly such a thing is in Allah's sight an enormity.

Surah 35 al-Faṭīr (The Creator)
(35:9)

It is Allah Who sends forth the Winds, so that they raise up the Clouds, and We drive them to a land that is dead, and revive the earth therewith after its death: even so (will be) the Resurrection!

Surah 36 Yā Sin (Ya Sin)
(36:12)

إِنَّا  نَحْنُ  نُحْىِ  ٱلْمَوْتَىٰ  وَنَكْتُبُ  مَا  قَدَّمُوا۟  وَءَاثَٰرَهُمْ  وَكُلَّ  شَىْءٍ  أَحْصَيْنَٰهُ  فِىٓ  إِمَامٍ  مُّبِينٍ innā naḥnu nuḥyi l‑mawtā wa‑naktubu qaddamū wa‑āthārahum wa‑kulla shayʾin aḥṣaynāhu imāmin mubīnin
Verily We shall give life to the dead, and We record that which they send before and that which they leave behind, and of all things have We taken account in a clear Book (of evidence).
(36:33)

A Sign for them is the earth that is dead: We do give it life, and produce grain therefrom, of which ye do eat.

And he makes comparisons for Us, and forgets his own (origin and) Creation: He says, "Who can give life to (dry) bones and decomposed ones (at that)?"
(36:79)

Surah 40 al-Ghāfir (The Forgiving One)
(40:11)

قَالُوا۟  رَبَّنَآ  أَمَتَّنَا  ٱثْنَتَيْنِ  وَأَحْيَيْتَنَا  ٱثْنَتَيْنِ  فَٱعْتَرَفْنَا  بِذُنُوبِنَا  فَهَلْ  إِلَىٰ  خُرُوجٍ  مِّن  سَبِيلٍ qālū rabbanā amattanā ithnatayni wa‑aḥyaytanā ithnatayni fa‑iʿtarafnā bi‑dhunūbinā fa‑hal ilā khurūjin min sabīlin
They will say: "Our Lord! twice hast Thou made us without life, and twice hast Thou given us Life! Now have we recognised our sins: Is there any way out (of this)?"
(40:25)

فَلَمَّا  جَآءَهُم  بِٱلْحَقِّ  مِنْ  عِندِنَا  قَالُوا۟  ٱقْتُلُوٓا۟  أَبْنَآءَ  ٱلَّذِينَ  ءَامَنُوا۟  مَعَهُۥ  وَٱسْتَحْيُوا۟  نِسَآءَهُمْ  وَمَا  كَيْدُ  ٱلْكَٰفِرِينَ  إِلَّا  فِى  ضَلَٰلٍ fa‑lammā jāʾahum bil‑ḥaqqi min ʿindinā qālū iqtulū abnāʾa lladhīna āmanū maʿahu wa‑istaḥyū nisāʾahum wa‑mā kaydu l‑kāfirīna illā ḍalālin
Now, when he came to them in Truth, from Us, they said, "Slay the sons of those who believe with him, and keep alive their females," but the plots of Unbelievers (end) in nothing but errors (and delusions)!...
(40:68)

It is He Who gives Life and Death; and when He decides upon an affair, He says to it, "Be", and it is.

Surah 41 Fuṣṣilat (Revelations Well Expounded)
(41:39)

وَمِنْ  ءَايَٰتِهِۦٓ  أَنَّكَ  تَرَى  ٱلْأَرْضَ  خَٰشِعَةً  فَإِذَآ  أَنزَلْنَا  عَلَيْهَا  ٱلْمَآءَ  ٱهْتَزَّتْ  وَرَبَتْ  إِنَّ  ٱلَّذِىٓ  أَحْيَاهَا  لَمُحْىِ  ٱلْمَوْتَىٰٓ  إِنَّهُۥ  عَلَىٰ  كُلِّ  شَىْءٍ  قَدِيرٌ wa‑min āyātihi annaka tara l‑arḍa khāshiʿatan fa‑idhā anzalnā ʿalayhā l‑māa ihtazzat wa‑rabat inna alladhī aḥyāhā la‑muḥi l‑mawtā innahu ʿalā kulli shayʾin qadīrun
And among His Signs in this: thou seest the earth barren and desolate; but when We send down rain to it, it is stirred to life and yields increase. Truly, He Who gives life to the (dead) earth can surely give life to (men) who are dead. For He has power over all things.

Surah 42 al-Shūrā (The Counsel)
(42:9)

أَمِ  ٱتَّخَذُوا۟  مِن  دُونِهِۦٓ  أَوْلِيَآءَ  فَٱللَّـهُ  هُوَ  ٱلْوَلِىُّ  وَهُوَ  يُحْىِ  ٱلْمَوْتَىٰ  وَهُوَ  عَلَىٰ  كُلِّ  شَىْءٍ  قَدِيرٌ ami ittakhadhū min dūnihi awliyāʾa fallāhu huwa l‑waliyyu wa‑huwa yuḥyi l‑mawtā wa‑huwa ʿalā kulli shayʾin qadīrun
What! Have they taken (for worship) protectors besides Him? But it is Allah,- He is the Protector, and it is He Who gives life to the dead: It is He Who has power over all things,
