Surah 2 al-Baqara (The Cow)
RefArabic    TransliterationTranslation
(2:23)

وَإِن  كُنتُمْ  فِى  رَيْبٍ  مِّمَّا  نَزَّلْنَا  عَلَىٰ  عَبْدِنَا  فَأْتُوا۟  بِسُورَةٍ  مِّن  مِّثْلِهِۦ  وَٱدْعُوا۟  شُهَدَآءَكُم  مِّن  دُونِ  ٱللَّـهِ  إِن  كُنتُمْ  صَٰدِقِينَ wa‑in kuntum raybin mimmā nazzalnā ʿalā ʿabdinā fa‑ʾtū bi‑sūratin min mithlihi wa‑idʿū shuhadāʾakum min dūni allāhi in kuntum ṣādiqīna
And if ye are in doubt as to what We have revealed from time to time to Our servant, then produce a Sura like thereunto; and call your witnesses or helpers (If there are any) besides Allah, if your (doubts) are true.
(2:221)

وَلَا  تَنكِحُوا۟  ٱلْمُشْرِكَٰتِ  حَتَّىٰ  يُؤْمِنَّ  وَلَأَمَةٌ  مُّؤْمِنَةٌ  خَيْرٌ  مِّن  مُّشْرِكَةٍ  وَلَوْ  أَعْجَبَتْكُمْ  وَلَا  تُنكِحُوا۟  ٱلْمُشْرِكِينَ  حَتَّىٰ  يُؤْمِنُوا۟  وَلَعَبْدٌ  مُّؤْمِنٌ  خَيْرٌ  مِّن  مُّشْرِكٍ  وَلَوْ  أَعْجَبَكُمْ  أُو۟لَٰٓئِكَ  يَدْعُونَ  إِلَى  ٱلنَّارِ  وَٱللَّـهُ  يَدْعُوٓا۟  إِلَى  ٱلْجَنَّةِ  وَٱلْمَغْفِرَةِ  بِإِذْنِهِۦ  وَيُبَيِّنُ  ءَايَٰتِهِۦ  لِلنَّاسِ  لَعَلَّهُمْ  يَتَذَكَّرُونَ wa‑lā tankiḥū l‑mushrikāti ḥattā yuʾminna wa‑la‑amatun muʾminatun khayrun min mushrikatin wa‑law aʿjabatkum wa‑lā tunkiḥū l‑mushrikīna ḥattā yuʾminū wa‑laʿabdun muʾminun khayrun min mushrikin wa‑law aʿjabakum ulāʾika yadʿūna ilā l‑nāri wallāhu yadʿū ilā l‑jannati wa‑l‑maghfirati bi‑idhnihi wa‑yubayyinu āyātihi lil‑nāsi la‑ʿallahum yatadhakkarūna
Do not marry unbelieving women (idolaters), until they believe: A slave woman who believes is better than an unbelieving woman, even though she allures you. Nor marry (your girls) to unbelievers until they believe: A man slave who believes is better than an unbeliever, even though he allures you. Unbelievers do (but) beckon you to the Fire. But Allah beckons by His Grace to the Garden (of bliss) and forgiveness, and makes His Signs clear to mankind: That they may celebrate His praise.

O ye who believe! When ye deal with each other, in transactions involving future obligations in a fixed period of time, reduce them to writing Let a scribe write down faithfully as between the parties: let not the scribe refuse to write: as Allah Has taught him, so let him write. Let him who incurs the liability dictate, but let him fear His Lord Allah, and not diminish aught of what he owes. If the party liable is mentally deficient, or weak, or unable Himself to dictate, Let his guardian dictate faithfully, and get two witnesses, out of your own men, and if there are not two men, then a man and two women, such as ye choose, for witnesses, so that if one of them errs, the other can remind her. The witnesses should not refuse when they are called on (For evidence). Disdain not to reduce to writing (your contract) for a future period, whether it be small or big: it is juster in the sight of Allah, More suitable as evidence, and more convenient to prevent doubts among yourselves but if it be a transaction which ye carry out on the spot among yourselves, there is no blame on you if ye reduce it not to writing. But take witness whenever ye make a commercial contract; and let neither scribe nor witness suffer harm. If ye do (such harm), it would be wickedness in you. So fear Allah; For it is Allah that teaches you. And Allah is well acquainted with all things.

Surah 3 Āl-ʿImrān (The Family of Imran)
(3:23)

Hast thou not turned Thy vision to those who have been given a portion of the Book? They are invited to the Book of Allah, to settle their dispute, but a party of them Turn back and decline (The arbitration).

Send not away those who call on their Lord morning and evening, seeking His face. In naught art thou accountable for them, and in naught are they accountable for thee, that thou shouldst turn them away, and thus be (one) of the unjust.

Say: "Allah's guidance is the (only) guidance, and we have been directed to submit ourselves to the Lord of the worlds;-

Revile not ye those whom they call upon besides Allah, lest they out of spite revile Allah in their ignorance. Thus have We made alluring to each people its own doings. In the end will they return to their Lord, and We shall then tell them the truth of all that they did.

Surah 7 al-Aʿrāf (The Heights)
(7:29)

Say: "My Lord hath commanded justice; and that ye set your whole selves (to Him) at every time and place of prayer, and call upon Him, making your devotion sincere as in His sight: such as He created you in the beginning, so shall ye return."
(7:37)

فَمَنْ  أَظْلَمُ  مِمَّنِ  ٱفْتَرَىٰ  عَلَى  ٱللَّـهِ  كَذِبًا  أَوْ  كَذَّبَ  بِـَٔايَٰتِهِۦٓ  أُو۟لَٰٓئِكَ  يَنَالُهُمْ  نَصِيبُهُم  مِّنَ  ٱلْكِتَٰبِ  حَتَّىٰٓ  إِذَا  جَآءَتْهُمْ  رُسُلُنَا  يَتَوَفَّوْنَهُمْ  قَالُوٓا۟  أَيْنَ  مَا  كُنتُمْ  تَدْعُونَ  مِن  دُونِ  ٱللَّـهِ  قَالُوا۟  ضَلُّوا۟  عَنَّا  وَشَهِدُوا۟  عَلَىٰٓ  أَنفُسِهِمْ  أَنَّهُمْ  كَانُوا۟  كَٰفِرِينَ fa‑man aẓlamu mimmani iftarā ʿalā allāhi kadhiban aw kadhdhaba bi‑āyātihi ulāʾika yanāluhum naṣībuhum mina l‑kitābi ḥatta idhā jāʾathum rusulunā yatawaffawnahum qālū ayna kuntum tadʿūna min dūni allāhi qālū ḍallū ʿannā wa‑shahidū ʿala anfusihim annahum kānū kāfirīna
Who is more unjust than one who invents a lie against Allah or rejects His Signs? For such, their portion appointed must reach them from the Book (of decrees): until, when our messengers (of death) arrive and take their souls, they say: "Where are the things that ye used to invoke besides Allah?" They will reply, "They have left us in the lurch," And they will bear witness against themselves, that they had rejected Allah.
(7:55)

ٱدْعُوا۟  رَبَّكُمْ  تَضَرُّعًا  وَخُفْيَةً  إِنَّهُۥ  لَا  يُحِبُّ  ٱلْمُعْتَدِينَ idʿū rabbakum taḍarruʿan wa‑khufyatan innahu yuḥibbu l‑muʿtadīna
Call on your Lord with humility and in private: for Allah loveth not those who trespass beyond bounds.
(7:56)

وَلَا  تُفْسِدُوا۟  فِى  ٱلْأَرْضِ  بَعْدَ  إِصْلَٰحِهَا  وَٱدْعُوهُ  خَوْفًا  وَطَمَعًا  إِنَّ  رَحْمَتَ  ٱللَّـهِ  قَرِيبٌ  مِّنَ  ٱلْمُحْسِنِينَ wa‑lā tufsidū l‑arḍi baʿda iṣlāḥihā wa‑adʿūhu khawfan wa‑ṭamaʿan inna raḥmata allāhi qarībun mina l‑muḥsinīna
Do no mischief on the earth, after it hath been set in order, but call on Him with fear and longing (in your hearts): for the Mercy of Allah is (always) near to those who do good.
(7:180)

The most beautiful names belong to Allah: so call on him by them; but shun such men as use profanity in his names: for what they do, they will soon be requited.
(7:193)

وَإِن  تَدْعُوهُمْ  إِلَى  ٱلْهُدَىٰ  لَا  يَتَّبِعُوكُمْ  سَوَآءٌ  عَلَيْكُمْ  أَدَعَوْتُمُوهُمْ  أَمْ  أَنتُمْ  صَٰمِتُونَ wa‑in tadʿūhum ilā l‑hudā yattabiʿūkum sawāʾun ʿalaykum adaʿawtumūhum am antum ṣāmitūna
If ye call them to guidance, they will not obey: For you it is the same whether ye call them or ye hold your peace!
(7:194)

إِنَّ  ٱلَّذِينَ  تَدْعُونَ  مِن  دُونِ  ٱللَّـهِ  عِبَادٌ  أَمْثَالُكُمْ  فَٱدْعُوهُمْ  فَلْيَسْتَجِيبُوا۟  لَكُمْ  إِن  كُنتُمْ  صَٰدِقِينَ inna lladhīna tadʿūna min dūni allāhi ʿibādun amthālukum fadʿūhum fa‑l‑yastajībū la‑kum in kuntum ṣādiqīna
Verily those whom ye call upon besides Allah are servants like unto you: Call upon them, and let them listen to your prayer, if ye are (indeed) truthful!
(7:195)

أَلَهُمْ  أَرْجُلٌ  يَمْشُونَ  بِهَآ  أَمْ  لَهُمْ  أَيْدٍ  يَبْطِشُونَ  بِهَآ  أَمْ  لَهُمْ  أَعْيُنٌ  يُبْصِرُونَ  بِهَآ  أَمْ  لَهُمْ  ءَاذَانٌ  يَسْمَعُونَ  بِهَا  قُلِ  ٱدْعُوا۟  شُرَكَآءَكُمْ  ثُمَّ  كِيدُونِ  فَلَا  تُنظِرُونِ alahum arjulun yamshūna bihā am lahum aydin yabṭishūna bihā am lahum aʿyunun yubṣirūna bihā am lahum ādhānun yasmaʿūna bihā quli idʿū shurakāʾakum thumma kīdūni fa‑lā tunẓirūni
Have they feet to walk with? Or hands to lay hold with? Or eyes to see with? Or ears to hear with? Say: "Call your 'god-partners', scheme (your worst) against me, and give me no respite!
(7:197)

"But those ye call upon besides Him, are unable to help you, and indeed to help themselves."
(7:198)

وَإِن  تَدْعُوهُمْ  إِلَى  ٱلْهُدَىٰ  لَا  يَسْمَعُوا۟  وَتَرَىٰهُمْ  يَنظُرُونَ  إِلَيْكَ  وَهُمْ  لَا  يُبْصِرُونَ wa‑in tadʿūhum ilā l‑hudā yasmaʿū wa‑tarāhum yanẓurūna ilayka wa‑hum yubṣirūna
If thou callest them to guidance, they hear not. Thou wilt see them looking at thee, but they see not.

Surah 10 Yūnus (Jonah)
(10:22)

He it is Who enableth you to traverse through land and sea; so that ye even board ships;- they sail with them with a favourable wind, and they rejoice thereat; then comes a stormy wind and the waves come to them from all sides, and they think they are being overwhelmed: they cry unto Allah, sincerely offering (their) duty unto Him saying, "If thou dost deliver us from this, we shall truly show our gratitude!"
(10:38)

Or do they say, "He forged it"? say: "Bring then a Sura like unto it, and call (to your aid) anyone you can besides Allah, if it be ye speak the truth!"
(10:66)

Behold! verily to Allah belong all creatures, in the heavens and on earth. What do they follow who worship as His "partners" other than Allah? They follow nothing but fancy, and they do nothing but lie.

Surah 11 Hūd (Hud)
(11:13)

أَمْ  يَقُولُونَ  ٱفْتَرَىٰهُ  قُلْ  فَأْتُوا۟  بِعَشْرِ  سُوَرٍ  مِّثْلِهِۦ  مُفْتَرَيَٰتٍ  وَٱدْعُوا۟  مَنِ  ٱسْتَطَعْتُم  مِّن  دُونِ  ٱللَّـهِ  إِن  كُنتُمْ  صَٰدِقِينَ am yaqūlūna iftarāhu qul fa‑ʾtū bi‑ʿashri suwarin mithlihi muftarayātin wa‑idʿū mani istaṭaʿtum min dūni allāhi in kuntum ṣādiqīna

(11:101)

It was not We that wronged them: They wronged their own souls: the deities, other than Allah, whom they invoked, profited them no whit when there issued the decree of thy Lord: Nor did they add aught (to their lot) but perdition!

Surah 12 Yūsuf (Joseph)
(12:33)

He said: "O my Lord! the prison is more to my liking than that to which they invite me: Unless Thou turn away their snare from me, I should (in my youthful folly) feel inclined towards them and join the ranks of the ignorant."

Surah 13 al-Raʿd (The Thunder)
(13:14)

لَهُۥ  دَعْوَةُ  ٱلْحَقِّ  وَٱلَّذِينَ  يَدْعُونَ  مِن  دُونِهِۦ  لَا  يَسْتَجِيبُونَ  لَهُم  بِشَىْءٍ  إِلَّا  كَبَٰسِطِ  كَفَّيْهِ  إِلَى  ٱلْمَآءِ  لِيَبْلُغَ  فَاهُ  وَمَا  هُوَ  بِبَٰلِغِهِۦ  وَمَا  دُعَآءُ  ٱلْكَٰفِرِينَ  إِلَّا  فِى  ضَلَٰلٍ lahu daʿwatu l‑ḥaqqi wa‑lladhīna yadʿūna min dūnihi yastajībūna lahum bi‑shayʾin illā kabāsiṭi kaffayhi ilā l‑māʾi li‑yablugha fāhu wa‑mā huwa bi‑bālighihi wa‑mā duʿāʾu l‑kāfirīna illā ḍalālin
For Him (alone) is prayer in Truth: any others that they call upon besides Him hear them no more than if they were to stretch forth their hands for water to reach their mouths but it reaches them not: for the prayer of those without Faith is nothing but (futile) wandering (in the mind).

Surah 14 Ibrāhīm (Abraham)
(14:9)

أَلَمْ  يَأْتِكُمْ  نَبَؤُا۟  ٱلَّذِينَ  مِن  قَبْلِكُمْ  قَوْمِ  نُوحٍ  وَعَادٍ  وَثَمُودَ  وَٱلَّذِينَ  مِنۢ  بَعْدِهِمْ  لَا  يَعْلَمُهُمْ  إِلَّا  ٱللَّـهُ  جَآءَتْهُمْ  رُسُلُهُم  بِٱلْبَيِّنَٰتِ  فَرَدُّوٓا۟  أَيْدِيَهُمْ  فِىٓ  أَفْوَٰهِهِمْ  وَقَالُوٓا۟  إِنَّا  كَفَرْنَا  بِمَآ  أُرْسِلْتُم  بِهِۦ  وَإِنَّا  لَفِى  شَكٍّ  مِّمَّا  تَدْعُونَنَآ  إِلَيْهِ  مُرِيبٍ a‑lam yatikum nabaʾu lladhīna min qablikum qawmi nūḥin wa‑ʿādin wa‑thamūda wa‑lladhīna min baʿdihim yaʿlamuhum illā allāhu jāʾathum rusuluhum bil‑bayyināti fa‑raddū aydiyahum afwāhihim wa‑qālū innā kafarnā bimā ursiltum bihi wa‑innā la‑fī shakkin mimmā tadʿūnanā ilayhi murībin
Has not the story reached you, (O people!), of those who (went) before you? - of the people of Noah, and 'Ad, and Thamud? - And of those who (came) after them? None knows them but Allah. To them came messengers with Clear (Signs); but they put their hands up to their mouths, and said: "We do deny (the mission) on which ye have been sent, and we are really in suspicious (disquieting) doubt as to that to which ye invite us."

Surah 16 al-Naḥl (The Bee)
(16:20)

وَٱلَّذِينَ  يَدْعُونَ  مِن  دُونِ  ٱللَّـهِ  لَا  يَخْلُقُونَ  شَيْـًٔا  وَهُمْ  يُخْلَقُونَ wa‑lladhīna yadʿūna min dūni allāhi yakhluqūna shayʾan wa‑hum yukhlaqūna
Those whom they invoke besides Allah create nothing and are themselves created.
(16:86)

وَإِذَا  رَءَا  ٱلَّذِينَ  أَشْرَكُوا۟  شُرَكَآءَهُمْ  قَالُوا۟  رَبَّنَا  هَٰٓؤُلَآءِ  شُرَكَآؤُنَا  ٱلَّذِينَ  كُنَّا  نَدْعُوا۟  مِن  دُونِكَ  فَأَلْقَوْا۟  إِلَيْهِمُ  ٱلْقَوْلَ  إِنَّكُمْ  لَكَٰذِبُونَ wa‑idhā raʾā lladhīna ashrakū shurakāʾahum qālū rabbanā hāʾulāʾi shurakāʾunā lladhīna kunnā nadʿū min dūnika fa‑alqaw ilayhimu l‑qawla innakum la‑kādhibūna
When those who gave partners to Allah will see their "partners", they will say: "Our Lord! these are our 'partners,' those whom we used to invoke besides Thee." But they will throw back their word at them (and say): "Indeed ye are liars!"

Surah 17 al-Isrāʾ (The Children of Israel)
(17:56)

Say: "Call on those - besides Him - whom ye fancy: they have neither the power to remove your troubles from you nor to change them."
(17:57)

Those whom they call upon do desire (for themselves) means of access to their Lord, - even those who are nearest: they hope for His Mercy and fear His Wrath: for the Wrath of thy Lord is something to take heed of.
(17:67)

وَإِذَا  مَسَّكُمُ  ٱلضُّرُّ  فِى  ٱلْبَحْرِ  ضَلَّ  مَن  تَدْعُونَ  إِلَّآ  إِيَّاهُ  فَلَمَّا  نَجَّىٰكُمْ  إِلَى  ٱلْبَرِّ  أَعْرَضْتُمْ  وَكَانَ  ٱلْإِنسَٰنُ  كَفُورًا wa‑idhā massakumu l‑ḍurru l‑baḥri ḍalla man tadʿūna illā iyyāhu fa‑lammā najjakum ilā l‑barri aʿraḍtum wa‑kāna l‑insānu kafūran
When distress seizes you at sea, those that ye call upon - besides Himself - leave you in the lurch! but when He brings you back safe to land, ye turn away (from Him). Most ungrateful is man!
(17:71)

One day We shall call together all human beings with their (respective) Imams: those who are given their record in their right hand will read it (with pleasure), and they will not be dealt with unjustly in the least.
(17:110)

Say: "Call upon Allah, or call upon Rahman: by whatever name ye call upon Him, (it is well): for to Him belong the Most Beautiful Names. Neither speak thy Prayer aloud, nor speak it in a low tone, but seek a middle course between."

Surah 18 al-Kahf (The Cave)
(18:14)

We gave strength to their hearts: Behold, they stood up and said: "Our Lord is the Lord of the heavens and of the earth: never shall we call upon any god other than Him: if we did, we should indeed have uttered an enormity!
(18:28)

وَٱصْبِرْ  نَفْسَكَ  مَعَ  ٱلَّذِينَ  يَدْعُونَ  رَبَّهُم  بِٱلْغَدَوٰةِ  وَٱلْعَشِىِّ  يُرِيدُونَ  وَجْهَهُۥ  وَلَا  تَعْدُ  عَيْنَاكَ  عَنْهُمْ  تُرِيدُ  زِينَةَ  ٱلْحَيَوٰةِ  ٱلدُّنْيَا  وَلَا  تُطِعْ  مَنْ  أَغْفَلْنَا  قَلْبَهُۥ  عَن  ذِكْرِنَا  وَٱتَّبَعَ  هَوَىٰهُ  وَكَانَ  أَمْرُهُۥ  فُرُطًا wa‑iṣbir nafsaka maʿa lladhīna yadʿūna rabbahum bil‑ghadāti wa‑l‑ʿashiyyi yurīdūna wajhahu wa‑lā taʿdu ʿaynāka ʿanhum turīdu zīnata l‑ḥayāti l‑dunyā wa‑lā tuṭiʿ man aghfalnā qalbahu ʿan dhikrinā wa‑ittabaʿa hawahu wa‑kāna amruhu furuṭan
And keep thy soul content with those who call on their Lord morning and evening, seeking His Face; and let not thine eyes pass beyond them, seeking the pomp and glitter of this Life; no obey any whose heart We have permitted to neglect the remembrance of Us, one who follows his own desires, whose case has gone beyond all bounds.
(18:52)

One Day He will say, "Call on those whom ye thought to be My partners," and they will call on them, but they will not listen to them; and We shall make for them a place of common perdition.

Surah 19 Maryam (Mary)
(19:48)

وَأَعْتَزِلُكُمْ  وَمَا  تَدْعُونَ  مِن  دُونِ  ٱللَّـهِ  وَأَدْعُوا۟  رَبِّى  عَسَىٰٓ  أَلَّآ  أَكُونَ  بِدُعَآءِ  رَبِّى  شَقِيًّا wa‑aʿtazilukum wa‑mā tadʿūna min dūni allāhi wa‑adʿū rabbī ʿasā allā akūna biduʿāi rabbī shaqiyyan
"And I will turn away from you (all) and from those whom ye invoke besides Allah: I will call on my Lord: perhaps, by my prayer to my Lord, I shall be not unblest."
(19:91)

أَن  دَعَوْا۟  لِلرَّحْمَٰنِ  وَلَدًا an daʿaw lil‑raḥmāni waladan
That they should invoke a son for (Allah) Most Gracious.

Surah 21 al-Anbiyāʾ (The Prophets)
(21:90)

So We listened to him: and We granted him Yahya: We cured his wife's (Barrenness) for him. These (three) were ever quick in emulation in good works; they used to call on Us with love and reverence, and humble themselves before Us.

Surah 22 al-Ḥajj (The Pilgrimage)
(22:62)

That is because Allah - He is the Reality; and those besides Him whom they invoke,- they are but vain Falsehood: verily Allah is He, Most High, Most Great.
(22:73)

يَٰٓأَيُّهَا  ٱلنَّاسُ  ضُرِبَ  مَثَلٌ  فَٱسْتَمِعُوا۟  لَهُۥٓ  إِنَّ  ٱلَّذِينَ  تَدْعُونَ  مِن  دُونِ  ٱللَّـهِ  لَن  يَخْلُقُوا۟  ذُبَابًا  وَلَوِ  ٱجْتَمَعُوا۟  لَهُۥ  وَإِن  يَسْلُبْهُمُ  ٱلذُّبَابُ  شَيْـًٔا  لَّا  يَسْتَنقِذُوهُ  مِنْهُ  ضَعُفَ  ٱلطَّالِبُ  وَٱلْمَطْلُوبُ yā‑ayyuhā l‑nāsu ḍuriba mathalun fa‑istamiʿū lahu inna lladhīna tadʿūna min dūni allāhi lan yakhluqū dhubāban wa‑lawi ijtamaʿū lahu wa‑in yaslubhumu l‑dhubābu shayʾan yastanqidhūhu minhu ḍaʿufa l‑ṭālibu wa‑l‑maṭlūbu
O men! Here is a parable set forth! listen to it! Those on whom, besides Allah, ye call, cannot create (even) a fly, if they all met together for the purpose! and if the fly should snatch away anything from them, they would have no power to release it from the fly. Feeble are those who petition and those whom they petition!

Surah 24 al-Nūr (The Light)
(24:48)

When they are summoned to Allah and His messenger, in order that He may judge between them, behold some of them decline (to come).
(24:51)

إِنَّمَا  كَانَ  قَوْلَ  ٱلْمُؤْمِنِينَ  إِذَا  دُعُوٓا۟  إِلَى  ٱللَّـهِ  وَرَسُولِهِۦ  لِيَحْكُمَ  بَيْنَهُمْ  أَن  يَقُولُوا۟  سَمِعْنَا  وَأَطَعْنَا  وَأُو۟لَٰٓئِكَ  هُمُ  ٱلْمُفْلِحُونَ innamā kāna qawla l‑muʾminīna idhā duʿū ilā allāhi wa‑rasūlihi li‑yaḥkuma baynahum an yaqūlū samiʿnā wa‑aṭaʿnā wa‑ūlāʾika humu l‑mufliḥūna
The answer of the Believers, when summoned to Allah and His Messenger, in order that He may judge between them, is no other than this: they say, "We hear and we obey": it is such as these that will attain felicity.

Surah 25 al-Furqān (The Criterion)
(25:13)

And when they are cast, bound together into a constricted place therein, they will pLead for destruction there and then!
