RefArabic    TransliterationTranslation
(6:65)

قُلْ  هُوَ  ٱلْقَادِرُ  عَلَىٰٓ  أَن  يَبْعَثَ  عَلَيْكُمْ  عَذَابًا  مِّن  فَوْقِكُمْ  أَوْ  مِن  تَحْتِ  أَرْجُلِكُمْ  أَوْ  يَلْبِسَكُمْ  شِيَعًا  وَيُذِيقَ  بَعْضَكُم  بَأْسَ  بَعْضٍ  ٱنظُرْ  كَيْفَ  نُصَرِّفُ  ٱلْأَيَٰتِ  لَعَلَّهُمْ  يَفْقَهُونَ qul huwa l‑qādiru ʿala an yabʿatha ʿalaykum ʿadhāban min fawqikum aw min taḥti arjulikum aw yalbisakum shiyaʿan wa‑yudhīqa baʿḍakum baʾsa baʿḍin inẓur kayfa nuṣarrifu l‑ayāti la‑ʿallahum yafqahūna
Say: "He hath power to send calamities on you, from above and below, or to cover you with confusion in party strife, giving you a taste of mutual vengeance - each from the other." See how We explain the signs by various (symbols); that they may understand.

Surah 10 Yūnus (Jonah)
(10:21)

وَإِذَآ  أَذَقْنَا  ٱلنَّاسَ  رَحْمَةً  مِّنۢ  بَعْدِ  ضَرَّآءَ  مَسَّتْهُمْ  إِذَا  لَهُم  مَّكْرٌ  فِىٓ  ءَايَاتِنَا  قُلِ  ٱللَّـهُ  أَسْرَعُ  مَكْرًا  إِنَّ  رُسُلَنَا  يَكْتُبُونَ  مَا  تَمْكُرُونَ wa‑idhā adhaqnā l‑nāsa raḥmatan min baʿdi ḍarrāʾa massathum idhā lahum makrun āyātinā quli allāhu asraʿu makran inna rusulanā yaktubūna tamkurūna
When We make mankind taste of some mercy after adversity hath touched them, behold! they take to plotting against Our Signs! Say: "Swifter to plan is Allah!" Verily, Our messengers record all the plots that ye make!
(10:70)

A little enjoyment in this world!- and then, to Us will be their return, then shall We make them taste the severest penalty for their blasphemies.

Surah 11 Hūd (Hud)
(11:9)

If We give man a taste of Mercy from Ourselves, and then withdraw it from him, behold! he is in despair and (falls into) blasphemy.
(11:10)

وَلَئِنْ  أَذَقْنَٰهُ  نَعْمَآءَ  بَعْدَ  ضَرَّآءَ  مَسَّتْهُ  لَيَقُولَنَّ  ذَهَبَ  ٱلسَّيِّـَٔاتُ  عَنِّىٓ  إِنَّهُۥ  لَفَرِحٌ  فَخُورٌ wa‑lain adhaqnāhu naʿmāa baʿda ḍarrāʾa massathu la‑yaqūlanna dhahaba l‑sayyiʾātu ʿannī innahu lafariḥun fakhūrun
But if We give him a taste of (Our) favours after adversity hath touched him, he is sure to say, "All evil has departed from me:" Behold! he falls into exultation and pride.

Surah 16 al-Naḥl (The Bee)
(16:112)

وَضَرَبَ  ٱللَّـهُ  مَثَلًا  قَرْيَةً  كَانَتْ  ءَامِنَةً  مُّطْمَئِنَّةً  يَأْتِيهَا  رِزْقُهَا  رَغَدًا  مِّن  كُلِّ  مَكَانٍ  فَكَفَرَتْ  بِأَنْعُمِ  ٱللَّـهِ  فَأَذَٰقَهَا  ٱللَّـهُ  لِبَاسَ  ٱلْجُوعِ  وَٱلْخَوْفِ  بِمَا  كَانُوا۟  يَصْنَعُونَ wa‑ḍaraba allāhu mathalan qaryatan kānat āminatan muṭmaʾinnatan yaʾtīhā rizquhā raghadan min kulli makānin fa‑kafarat bi‑anʿumi allāhi fa‑adhāqahā allāhu libāsa l‑jūʿi wa‑l‑khawfi bi‑mā kānū yaṣnaʿūna
Allah sets forth a Parable: a city enjoying security and quiet, abundantly supplied with sustenance from every place: Yet was it ungrateful for the favours of Allah: so Allah made it taste of hunger and terror (in extremes) (closing in on it) like a garment (from every side), because of the (evil) which (its people) wrought.

Surah 17 al-Isrāʾ (The Children of Israel)
(17:75)

In that case We should have made thee taste an equal portion (of punishment) in this life, and an equal portion in death: and moreover thou wouldst have found none to help thee against Us!

Surah 22 al-Ḥajj (The Pilgrimage)
(22:9)

ثَانِىَ  عِطْفِهِۦ  لِيُضِلَّ  عَن  سَبِيلِ  ٱللَّـهِ  لَهُۥ  فِى  ٱلدُّنْيَا  خِزْىٌ  وَنُذِيقُهُۥ  يَوْمَ  ٱلْقِيَٰمَةِ  عَذَابَ  ٱلْحَرِيقِ thāniya ʿiṭfihi li‑yuḍilla ʿan sabīli allāhi lahu l‑dunyā khizun wa‑nudhīquhu yawma l‑qiyāmati ʿadhāba l‑ḥarīqi
(Disdainfully) bending his side, in order to lead (men) astray from the Path of Allah: for him there is disgrace in this life, and on the Day of Judgment We shall make him taste the Penalty of burning (Fire).
(22:25)

إِنَّ  ٱلَّذِينَ  كَفَرُوا۟  وَيَصُدُّونَ  عَن  سَبِيلِ  ٱللَّـهِ  وَٱلْمَسْجِدِ  ٱلْحَرَامِ  ٱلَّذِى  جَعَلْنَٰهُ  لِلنَّاسِ  سَوَآءً  ٱلْعَٰكِفُ  فِيهِ  وَٱلْبَادِ  وَمَن  يُرِدْ  فِيهِ  بِإِلْحَادٍۭ  بِظُلْمٍ  نُّذِقْهُ  مِنْ  عَذَابٍ  أَلِيمٍ inna lladhīna kafarū wa‑yaṣuddūna ʿan sabīli allāhi wa‑l‑masjidi l‑ḥarāmi alladhī jaʿalnāhu lil‑nāsi sawāʾan l‑ʿākifu fīhi wa‑l‑bādi wa‑man yurid fīhi bi‑ilḥādin bi‑ẓulmin nnudhiqhu min ʿadhābin alīmin
As to those who have rejected (Allah), and would keep back (men) from the Way of Allah, and from the Sacred Mosque, which We have made (open) to (all) men - equal is the dweller there and the visitor from the country - and any whose purpose therein is profanity or wrong-doing - them will We cause to taste of a most Grievous Penalty.

Surah 25 al-Furqān (The Criterion)
(25:19)

فَقَدْ  كَذَّبُوكُم  بِمَا  تَقُولُونَ  فَمَا  تَسْتَطِيعُونَ  صَرْفًا  وَلَا  نَصْرًا  وَمَن  يَظْلِم  مِّنكُمْ  نُذِقْهُ  عَذَابًا  كَبِيرًا fa‑qad kadhdhabūkum bi‑mā taqūlūna fa‑mā tastaṭīʿūna ṣarfan wa‑lā naṣran wa‑man yaẓlim minkum nudhiqhu ʿadhāban kabīran
(Allah will say): "Now have they proved you liars in what ye say: so ye cannot avert (your penalty) nor (get) help." And whoever among you does wrong, him shall We cause to taste of a grievous Penalty.

Surah 30 al-Rūm (The Romans)
(30:33)

When trouble touches men, they cry to their Lord, turning back to Him in repentance: but when He gives them a taste of Mercy as from Himself, behold, some of them pay part-worship to other god's besides their Lord,-
(30:36)

وَإِذَآ  أَذَقْنَا  ٱلنَّاسَ  رَحْمَةً  فَرِحُوا۟  بِهَا  وَإِن  تُصِبْهُمْ  سَيِّئَةٌۢ  بِمَا  قَدَّمَتْ  أَيْدِيهِمْ  إِذَا  هُمْ  يَقْنَطُونَ wa‑idhā adhaqnā l‑nāsa raḥmatan fariḥū bihā wa‑in tuṣibhum sayyiatun bi‑mā qaddamat aydīhim idhā hum yaqnaṭūna
When We give men a taste of Mercy, they exult thereat: and when some evil afflicts them because of what their (own) hands have sent forth, behold, they are in despair!
(30:41)

Mischief has appeared on land and sea because of (the meed) that the hands of men have earned, that (Allah) may give them a taste of some of their deeds: in order that they may turn back (from Evil).
(30:46)

وَمِنْ  ءَايَٰتِهِۦٓ  أَن  يُرْسِلَ  ٱلرِّيَاحَ  مُبَشِّرَٰتٍ  وَلِيُذِيقَكُم  مِّن  رَّحْمَتِهِۦ  وَلِتَجْرِىَ  ٱلْفُلْكُ  بِأَمْرِهِۦ  وَلِتَبْتَغُوا۟  مِن  فَضْلِهِۦ  وَلَعَلَّكُمْ  تَشْكُرُونَ wa‑min āyātihi an yursila l‑rīāḥa mubashshirātin wa‑li‑yudhīqakum min rraḥmatihi wa‑li‑tajriya l‑fulku bi‑amrihi wa‑li‑tabtaghū min faḍlihi wa‑la‑ʿallakum tashkurūna
Among His Signs is this, that He sends the Winds, as heralds of Glad Tidings, giving you a taste of His (Grace and) Mercy,- that the ships may sail (majestically) by His Command and that ye may seek of His Bounty: in order that ye may be grateful.

Surah 32 al-Sajdah (The Adoration)
(32:21)

And indeed We will make them taste of the Penalty of this (life) prior to the supreme Penalty, in order that they may (repent and) return.

Surah 34 Sabaʾ (Sheba)
(34:12)

وَلِسُلَيْمَٰنَ  ٱلرِّيحَ  غُدُوُّهَا  شَهْرٌ  وَرَوَاحُهَا  شَهْرٌ  وَأَسَلْنَا  لَهُۥ  عَيْنَ  ٱلْقِطْرِ  وَمِنَ  ٱلْجِنِّ  مَن  يَعْمَلُ  بَيْنَ  يَدَيْهِ  بِإِذْنِ  رَبِّهِۦ  وَمَن  يَزِغْ  مِنْهُمْ  عَنْ  أَمْرِنَا  نُذِقْهُ  مِنْ  عَذَابِ  ٱلسَّعِيرِ wa‑li‑sulaymāna l‑rīḥa ghuduwwuhā shahrun wa‑rawāḥuhā shahrun wa‑asalnā lahu ʿayna l‑qiṭri wa‑mina l‑jinni man yaʿmalu bayna yadayhi bi‑idhni rabbihi wa‑man yazigh minhum ʿan amrinā nudhiqhu min ʿadhābi l‑saʿīri
And to Solomon (We made) the Wind (obedient): Its early morning (stride) was a month's (journey), and its evening (stride) was a month's (journey); and We made a Font of molten brass to flow for him; and there were Jinns that worked in front of him, by the leave of his Lord, and if any of them turned aside from our command, We made him taste of the Penalty of the Blazing Fire.

Surah 39 al-Zumar (The Companies)
(39:26)

So Allah gave them a taste of humiliation in the present life, but greater is the punishment of the Hereafter, if they only knew!

Surah 41 Fuṣṣilat (Revelations Well Expounded)
(41:16)

So We sent against them a furious Wind through days of disaster, that We might give them a taste of a Penalty of humiliation in this life; but the Penalty of a Hereafter will be more humiliating still: and they will find no help.
(41:27)

فَلَنُذِيقَنَّ  ٱلَّذِينَ  كَفَرُوا۟  عَذَابًا  شَدِيدًا  وَلَنَجْزِيَنَّهُمْ  أَسْوَأَ  ٱلَّذِى  كَانُوا۟  يَعْمَلُونَ fa‑la‑nudhīqanna lladhīna kafarū ʿadhāban shadīdan wa‑la‑najziyannahum aswaʾa alladhī kānū yaʿmalūna
But We will certainly give the Unbelievers a taste of a severe Penalty, and We will requite them for the worst of their deeds.
(41:50)

وَلَئِنْ  أَذَقْنَٰهُ  رَحْمَةً  مِّنَّا  مِنۢ  بَعْدِ  ضَرَّآءَ  مَسَّتْهُ  لَيَقُولَنَّ  هَٰذَا  لِى  وَمَآ  أَظُنُّ  ٱلسَّاعَةَ  قَآئِمَةً  وَلَئِن  رُّجِعْتُ  إِلَىٰ  رَبِّىٓ  إِنَّ  لِى  عِندَهُۥ  لَلْحُسْنَىٰ  فَلَنُنَبِّئَنَّ  ٱلَّذِينَ  كَفَرُوا۟  بِمَا  عَمِلُوا۟  وَلَنُذِيقَنَّهُم  مِّنْ  عَذَابٍ  غَلِيظٍ wa‑lain adhaqnāhu raḥmatan minnā min baʿdi ḍarrāʾa massathu la‑yaqūlanna hādhā wa‑mā aẓunnu l‑sāʿata qāʾimatan wa‑laʾin rrujiʿtu ilā rabbī inna ʿindahu la‑l‑ḥusnā fa‑la‑nunabbiʾanna lladhīna kafarū bi‑mā ʿamilū wa‑la‑nudhīqannahum min ʿadhābin ghalīẓin
When we give him a taste of some Mercy from Ourselves, after some adversity has touched him, he is sure to say, "This is due to my (merit): I think not that the Hour (of Judgment) will (ever) be established; but if I am brought back to my Lord, I have (much) good (stored) in His sight!" But We will show the Unbelievers the truth of all that they did, and We shall give them the taste of a severe Penalty.

Surah 42 al-Shūrā (The Counsel)
(42:48)

فَإِنْ  أَعْرَضُوا۟  فَمَآ  أَرْسَلْنَٰكَ  عَلَيْهِمْ  حَفِيظًا  إِنْ  عَلَيْكَ  إِلَّا  ٱلْبَلَٰغُ  وَإِنَّآ  إِذَآ  أَذَقْنَا  ٱلْإِنسَٰنَ  مِنَّا  رَحْمَةً  فَرِحَ  بِهَا  وَإِن  تُصِبْهُمْ  سَيِّئَةٌۢ  بِمَا  قَدَّمَتْ  أَيْدِيهِمْ  فَإِنَّ  ٱلْإِنسَٰنَ  كَفُورٌ fa‑in aʿraḍū fa‑mā arsalnāka ʿalayhim ḥafīẓan in ʿalayka illā l‑balāghu wa‑innā idhā adhaqnā l‑insāna minnā raḥmatan fariḥa bihā wa‑in tuṣibhum sayyiatun bi‑mā qaddamat aydīhim fa‑inna l‑insāna kafūrun
If then they run away, We have not sent thee as a guard over them. Thy duty is but to convey (the Message). And truly, when We give man a taste of a Mercy from Ourselves, he doth exult thereat, but when some ill happens to him, on account of the deeds which his hands have sent forth, truly then is man ungrateful!
