Surah 2 al-Baqara (The Cow)
RefArabic    TransliterationTranslation
(2:55)

And remember ye said: "O Moses! We shall never believe in thee until we see Allah manifestly," but ye were dazed with thunder and lighting even as ye looked on.
(2:144)

قَدْ  نَرَىٰ  تَقَلُّبَ  وَجْهِكَ  فِى  ٱلسَّمَآءِ  فَلَنُوَلِّيَنَّكَ  قِبْلَةً  تَرْضَىٰهَا  فَوَلِّ  وَجْهَكَ  شَطْرَ  ٱلْمَسْجِدِ  ٱلْحَرَامِ  وَحَيْثُ  مَا  كُنتُمْ  فَوَلُّوا۟  وُجُوهَكُمْ  شَطْرَهُۥ  وَإِنَّ  ٱلَّذِينَ  أُوتُوا۟  ٱلْكِتَٰبَ  لَيَعْلَمُونَ  أَنَّهُ  ٱلْحَقُّ  مِن  رَّبِّهِمْ  وَمَا  ٱللَّـهُ  بِغَٰفِلٍ  عَمَّا  يَعْمَلُونَ qad narā taqalluba wajhika l‑samāʾi fa‑la‑nuwalliyannaka qiblatan tarḍahā fa‑walli wajhaka shaṭra l‑masjidi l‑ḥarāmi waḥaythu kuntum fa‑wallū wujūhakum shaṭrahu wa‑inna lladhīna ūtū l‑kitāba layaʿlamūna annahu l‑ḥaqqu min rabbihim wa‑mā allāhu bi‑ghāfilin ʿammā yaʿmalūna
We see the turning of thy face (for guidance to the heavens: now Shall We turn thee to a Qibla that shall please thee. Turn then Thy face in the direction of the sacred Mosque: Wherever ye are, turn your faces in that direction. The people of the Book know well that that is the truth from their Lord. Nor is Allah unmindful of what they do.
(2:165)

وَمِنَ  ٱلنَّاسِ  مَن  يَتَّخِذُ  مِن  دُونِ  ٱللَّـهِ  أَندَادًا  يُحِبُّونَهُمْ  كَحُبِّ  ٱللَّـهِ  وَٱلَّذِينَ  ءَامَنُوٓا۟  أَشَدُّ  حُبًّا  لِلَّـهِ  وَلَوْ  يَرَى  ٱلَّذِينَ  ظَلَمُوٓا۟  إِذْ  يَرَوْنَ  ٱلْعَذَابَ  أَنَّ  ٱلْقُوَّةَ  لِلَّـهِ  جَمِيعًا  وَأَنَّ  ٱللَّـهَ  شَدِيدُ  ٱلْعَذَابِ wa‑mina l‑nāsi man yattakhidhu min dūni allāhi andādan yuḥibbūnahum ka‑ḥubbi allāhi wa‑lladhīna āmanū ashaddu ḥubban lillāhi wa‑law yarā lladhīna ẓalamū idh yarawna l‑ʿadhāba annā l‑qūwata lillāhi jamīʿan wa‑anna allāha shadīdu l‑ʿadhābi
Yet there are men who take (for worship) others besides Allah, as equal (with Allah): They love them as they should love Allah. But those of Faith are overflowing in their love for Allah. If only the unrighteous could see, behold, they would see the penalty: that to Allah belongs all power, and Allah will strongly enforce the penalty.
(2:166)

إِذْ  تَبَرَّأَ  ٱلَّذِينَ  ٱتُّبِعُوا۟  مِنَ  ٱلَّذِينَ  ٱتَّبَعُوا۟  وَرَأَوُا۟  ٱلْعَذَابَ  وَتَقَطَّعَتْ  بِهِمُ  ٱلْأَسْبَابُ idh tabarraʾa lladhīna attubiʿū mina lladhīna attabaʿū wa‑raʾawu l‑ʿadhāba wa‑ṭaqaṭṭaʿaṭ bihimu l‑asbābu
Then would those who are followed clear themselves of those who follow (them) : They would see the penalty, and all relations between them would be cut off.
(2:243)

أَلَمْ  تَرَ  إِلَى  ٱلَّذِينَ  خَرَجُوا۟  مِن  دِيَٰرِهِمْ  وَهُمْ  أُلُوفٌ  حَذَرَ  ٱلْمَوْتِ  فَقَالَ  لَهُمُ  ٱللَّـهُ  مُوتُوا۟  ثُمَّ  أَحْيَٰهُمْ  إِنَّ  ٱللَّـهَ  لَذُو  فَضْلٍ  عَلَى  ٱلنَّاسِ  وَلَٰكِنَّ  أَكْثَرَ  ٱلنَّاسِ  لَا  يَشْكُرُونَ a‑lam tara ilā lladhīna kharajū min diyārihim wa‑hum ulūfun ḥadhara l‑mawti fa‑qāla lahumu allāhu mūtū thumma aḥyāhum inna allāha la‑dhū faḍlin ʿalā l‑nāsi wa‑lākinna akthara l‑nāsi yashkurūna
Didst thou not Turn by vision to those who abandoned their homes, though they were thousands (In number), for fear of death? Allah said to them: "Die": Then He restored them to life. For Allah is full of bounty to mankind, but Most of them are ungrateful.
(2:246)

أَلَمْ  تَرَ  إِلَى  ٱلْمَلَإِ  مِنۢ  بَنِىٓ  إِسْرَٰٓءِيلَ  مِنۢ  بَعْدِ  مُوسَىٰٓ  إِذْ  قَالُوا۟  لِنَبِىٍّ  لَّهُمُ  ٱبْعَثْ  لَنَا  مَلِكًا  نُّقَٰتِلْ  فِى  سَبِيلِ  ٱللَّـهِ  قَالَ  هَلْ  عَسَيْتُمْ  إِن  كُتِبَ  عَلَيْكُمُ  ٱلْقِتَالُ  أَلَّا  تُقَٰتِلُوا۟  قَالُوا۟  وَمَا  لَنَآ  أَلَّا  نُقَٰتِلَ  فِى  سَبِيلِ  ٱللَّـهِ  وَقَدْ  أُخْرِجْنَا  مِن  دِيَٰرِنَا  وَأَبْنَآئِنَا  فَلَمَّا  كُتِبَ  عَلَيْهِمُ  ٱلْقِتَالُ  تَوَلَّوْا۟  إِلَّا  قَلِيلًا  مِّنْهُمْ  وَٱللَّـهُ  عَلِيمٌۢ  بِٱلظَّٰلِمِينَ a‑lam tara ilā l‑malāʾi min banī isrāʾīla min baʿdi mūsā idh qālū li‑nabiyyin llahumu abʿath la‑nā malikan nuqātil sabīli allāhi qalā hal ʿasaytum in kutiba ʿalaykumu l‑qitālu allā tuqātilū qālū wa‑mā lanā allā nuqātila sabīli allāhi wa‑qad ukhrijnā min diyārinā wa‑abnāʾinā fa‑lammā kutiba ʿalayhimu l‑qitālu tawallaw illā qalīlan minhum wallāhu ʿalīmun bil‑ẓālimīna
Hast thou not Turned thy vision to the Chiefs of the Children of Israel after (the time of) Moses? they said to a prophet (That was) among them: "Appoint for us a king, that we May fight in the cause of Allah." He said: "Is it not possible, if ye were commanded to fight, that that ye will not fight?" They said: "How could we refuse to fight in the cause of Allah, seeing that we were turned out of our homes and our families?" but when they were commanded to fight, they turned back, except a small band among them. But Allah Has full knowledge of those who do wrong.
(2:258)

أَلَمْ  تَرَ  إِلَى  ٱلَّذِى  حَآجَّ  إِبْرَٰهِـۧمَ  فِى  رَبِّهِۦٓ  أَنْ  ءَاتَىٰهُ  ٱللَّـهُ  ٱلْمُلْكَ  إِذْ  قَالَ  إِبْرَٰهِـۧمُ  رَبِّىَ  ٱلَّذِى  يُحْىِۦ  وَيُمِيتُ  قَالَ  أَنَا۠  أُحْىِۦ  وَأُمِيتُ  قَالَ  إِبْرَٰهِـۧمُ  فَإِنَّ  ٱللَّـهَ  يَأْتِى  بِٱلشَّمْسِ  مِنَ  ٱلْمَشْرِقِ  فَأْتِ  بِهَا  مِنَ  ٱلْمَغْرِبِ  فَبُهِتَ  ٱلَّذِى  كَفَرَ  وَٱللَّـهُ  لَا  يَهْدِى  ٱلْقَوْمَ  ٱلظَّٰلِمِينَ a‑lam tara ilā alladhī ḥājja ibrāhīma rabbihi an ātahu allāhu l‑mulka idh qalā ibrāhīmu rabbiya alladhī yuḥyi wa‑yumītu qalā anā uḥyi wa‑umītu qalā ibrāhīmu fa‑inna allāha yaʾtī bil‑shamsi mina l‑mashriqi fa‑ʾti bihā mina l‑maghribi fa‑buhita alladhī kafara wallāhu yahdī l‑qawma l‑ẓālimīna
Hast thou not Turned thy vision to one who disputed with Abraham About his Lord, because Allah had granted him power? Abraham said: "My Lord is He Who Giveth life and death." He said: "I give life and death". Said Abraham: "But it is Allah that causeth the sun to rise from the east: Do thou then cause him to rise from the West." Thus was he confounded who (in arrogance) rejected faith. Nor doth Allah Give guidance to a people unjust.

Surah 3 Āl-ʿImrān (The Family of Imran)
(3:13)

"There has already been for you a Sign in the two armies that met (in combat): One was fighting in the cause of Allah, the other resisting Allah; these saw with their own eyes Twice their number. But Allah doth support with His aid whom He pleaseth. In this is a warning for such as have eyes to see."
(3:23)

Hast thou not turned Thy vision to those who have been given a portion of the Book? They are invited to the Book of Allah, to settle their dispute, but a party of them Turn back and decline (The arbitration).
(3:143)

وَلَقَدْ  كُنتُمْ  تَمَنَّوْنَ  ٱلْمَوْتَ  مِن  قَبْلِ  أَن  تَلْقَوْهُ  فَقَدْ  رَأَيْتُمُوهُ  وَأَنتُمْ  تَنظُرُونَ wa‑la‑qad kuntum tamannawna l‑mawtā min qabli an talqawhu fa‑qad raaytumūhu wa‑antum tanẓurūna
Ye did indeed wish for death before ye met him: Now ye have seen him with your own eyes, (And ye flinch!)
(3:152)

وَلَقَدْ  صَدَقَكُمُ  ٱللَّـهُ  وَعْدَهُۥٓ  إِذْ  تَحُسُّونَهُم  بِإِذْنِهِۦ  حَتَّىٰٓ  إِذَا  فَشِلْتُمْ  وَتَنَٰزَعْتُمْ  فِى  ٱلْأَمْرِ  وَعَصَيْتُم  مِّنۢ  بَعْدِ  مَآ  أَرَىٰكُم  مَّا  تُحِبُّونَ  مِنكُم  مَّن  يُرِيدُ  ٱلدُّنْيَا  وَمِنكُم  مَّن  يُرِيدُ  ٱلْأَخِرَةَ  ثُمَّ  صَرَفَكُمْ  عَنْهُمْ  لِيَبْتَلِيَكُمْ  وَلَقَدْ  عَفَا  عَنكُمْ  وَٱللَّـهُ  ذُو  فَضْلٍ  عَلَى  ٱلْمُؤْمِنِينَ wa‑la‑qad ṣadaqakumu allāhu waʿdahu idh taḥussūnahum bi‑idhnihi ḥatta idhā fashiltum wa‑tanāzaʿtum l‑amri wa‑ʿaṣaytum min baʿdi arākum tuḥibbūna minkum man yurīdu l‑dunyā wa‑minkum man yurīdu l‑akhirata thumma ṣarafakum ʿanhum li‑yabtaliyakum wa‑la‑qad ʿafā ʿankum wallāhu dhū faḍlin ʿalā l‑muʾminīna
Allah did indeed fulfil His promise to you when ye with His permission Were about to annihilate your enemy,-until ye flinched and fell to disputing about the order, and disobeyed it after He brought you in sight (of the booty) which ye covet. Among you are some that hanker after this world and some that desire the Hereafter. Then did He divert you from your foes in order to test you but He forgave you: For Allah is full of grace to those who believe.

Surah 4 al-Nisāʾ (The Women)
(4:44)

أَلَمْ  تَرَ  إِلَى  ٱلَّذِينَ  أُوتُوا۟  نَصِيبًا  مِّنَ  ٱلْكِتَٰبِ  يَشْتَرُونَ  ٱلضَّلَٰلَةَ  وَيُرِيدُونَ  أَن  تَضِلُّوا۟  ٱلسَّبِيلَ a‑lam tara ilā lladhīna ūtū naṣīban mina l‑kitābi yashtarūna l‑ḍalālata wa‑yurīdūna an taḍillū l‑sabīla

Hast thou not turned Thy vision to those who claim sanctity for themselves? Nay-but Allah Doth sanctify whom He pleaseth. But never will they fail to receive justice in the least little thing.
(4:51)

أَلَمْ  تَرَ  إِلَى  ٱلَّذِينَ  أُوتُوا۟  نَصِيبًا  مِّنَ  ٱلْكِتَٰبِ  يُؤْمِنُونَ  بِٱلْجِبْتِ  وَٱلطَّٰغُوتِ  وَيَقُولُونَ  لِلَّذِينَ  كَفَرُوا۟  هَٰٓؤُلَآءِ  أَهْدَىٰ  مِنَ  ٱلَّذِينَ  ءَامَنُوا۟  سَبِيلًا a‑lam tara ilā lladhīna ūtū naṣīban mina l‑kitābi yuʾminūna bil‑jibti wa‑l‑ṭāghūti wa‑yaqūlūna li‑lladhīna kafarū hāʾulāʾi ahdā mina lladhīna āmanū sabīlan

أَلَمْ  تَرَ  إِلَى  ٱلَّذِينَ  يَزْعُمُونَ  أَنَّهُمْ  ءَامَنُوا۟  بِمَآ  أُنزِلَ  إِلَيْكَ  وَمَآ  أُنزِلَ  مِن  قَبْلِكَ  يُرِيدُونَ  أَن  يَتَحَاكَمُوٓا۟  إِلَى  ٱلطَّٰغُوتِ  وَقَدْ  أُمِرُوٓا۟  أَن  يَكْفُرُوا۟  بِهِۦ  وَيُرِيدُ  ٱلشَّيْطَٰنُ  أَن  يُضِلَّهُمْ  ضَلَٰلًۢا  بَعِيدًا a‑lam tara ilā lladhīna yazʿumūna annahum āmanū bimā unzila ilayka wa‑mā unzila min qablika yurīdūna an yataḥākamū ilā l‑ṭāghūti wa‑qad umirū an yakfurū bihi wa‑yurīdu l‑shayṭānu an yuḍillahum ḍalālan baʿīdan
Hast thou not turned Thy vision to those who declare that they believe in the revelations that have come to thee and to those before thee? Their (real) wish is to resort together for judgment (in their disputes) to the Evil One, though they were ordered to reject him. But Satan's wish is to lead them astray far away (from the right).
(4:61)

Hast thou not turned Thy vision to those who were told to hold back their hands (from fight) but establish regular prayers and spend in regular charity? When (at length) the order for fighting was issued to them, behold! a section of them feared men as - or even more than - they should have feared Allah: They said: "Our Lord! Why hast Thou ordered us to fight? Wouldst Thou not Grant us respite to our (natural) term, near (enough)?" Say: "Short is the enjoyment of this world: the Hereafter is the best for those who do right: Never will ye be dealt with unjustly in the very least!

We have sent down to thee the Book in truth, that thou mightest judge between men, as guided by Allah: so be not (used) as an advocate by those who betray their trust;

Surah 5 al-Māʾidah (The Table Spread)
(5:52)

فَتَرَى  ٱلَّذِينَ  فِى  قُلُوبِهِم  مَّرَضٌ  يُسَٰرِعُونَ  فِيهِمْ  يَقُولُونَ  نَخْشَىٰٓ  أَن  تُصِيبَنَا  دَآئِرَةٌ  فَعَسَى  ٱللَّـهُ  أَن  يَأْتِىَ  بِٱلْفَتْحِ  أَوْ  أَمْرٍ  مِّنْ  عِندِهِۦ  فَيُصْبِحُوا۟  عَلَىٰ  مَآ  أَسَرُّوا۟  فِىٓ  أَنفُسِهِمْ  نَٰدِمِينَ fatarā lladhīna qulūbihim maraḍun yusāriʿūna fīhim yaqūlūna nakhsha an tuṣībanā dāʾiratun fa‑ʿaṣā allāhu an yaʾtiya bil‑fatḥi aw amrin min ʿindihi fa‑yuṣbiḥū ʿalā asarrū anfusihim nādimīna
Those in whose hearts is a disease - thou seest how eagerly they run about amongst them, saying: "We do fear lest a change of fortune bring us disaster." Ah! perhaps Allah will give (thee) victory, or a decision according to His will. Then will they repent of the thoughts which they secretly harboured in their hearts.
(5:62)

Many of them dost thou see, racing each other in sin and rancour, and their eating of things forbidden. Evil indeed are the things that they do.
(5:80)

تَرَىٰ  كَثِيرًا  مِّنْهُمْ  يَتَوَلَّوْنَ  ٱلَّذِينَ  كَفَرُوا۟  لَبِئْسَ  مَا  قَدَّمَتْ  لَهُمْ  أَنفُسُهُمْ  أَن  سَخِطَ  ٱللَّـهُ  عَلَيْهِمْ  وَفِى  ٱلْعَذَابِ  هُمْ  خَٰلِدُونَ tara kathīran minhum yatawallawna lladhīna kafarū la‑biʾsa qaddamat lahum anfusuhum an sakhiṭa allāhu ʿalayhim wa‑fī l‑ʿadhābi hum khālidūna
Thou seest many of them turning in friendship to the Unbelievers. Evil indeed are (the works) which their souls have sent forward before them (with the result), that Allah's wrath is on them, and in torment will they abide.
(5:83)

وَإِذَا  سَمِعُوا۟  مَآ  أُنزِلَ  إِلَى  ٱلرَّسُولِ  تَرَىٰٓ  أَعْيُنَهُمْ  تَفِيضُ  مِنَ  ٱلدَّمْعِ  مِمَّا  عَرَفُوا۟  مِنَ  ٱلْحَقِّ  يَقُولُونَ  رَبَّنَآ  ءَامَنَّا  فَٱكْتُبْنَا  مَعَ  ٱلشَّٰهِدِينَ wa‑idhā samiʿū unzila ilā l‑rasūli tara aʿyunahum tafīḍu mina l‑damʿi mimmā ʿarafū mina l‑ḥaqqi yaqūlūna rabbanā āmannā fa‑iktubnā maʿa l‑shāhidīna
And when they listen to the revelation received by the Messenger, thou wilt see their eyes overflowing with tears, for they recognise the truth: they pray: "Our Lord! we believe; write us down among the witnesses.

But Allah did pour His calm on the Messenger and on the Believers, and sent down forces which ye saw not: He punished the Unbelievers; thus doth He reward those without Faith.
(9:40)

If ye help not (your leader), (it is no matter): for Allah did indeed help him, when the Unbelievers drove him out: he had no more than one companion; they two were in the cave, and he said to his companion, "Have no fear, for Allah is with us": then Allah sent down His peace upon him, and strengthened him with forces which ye saw not, and humbled to the depths the word of the Unbelievers. But the word of Allah is exalted to the heights: for Allah is Exalted in might, Wise.
(9:94)

They will present their excuses to you when ye return to them. Say thou: "Present no excuses: we shall not believe you: Allah hath already informed us of the true state of matters concerning you: It is your actions that Allah and His Messenger will observe: in the end will ye be brought back to Him Who knoweth what is hidden and what is open: then will He show you the truth of all that ye did."
