Surah 4 al-Nisāʾ (The Women)

(4:62)

فَكَيْفَ  إِذَآ  أَصَٰبَتْهُم  مُّصِيبَةٌۢ  بِمَا  قَدَّمَتْ  أَيْدِيهِمْ  ثُمَّ  جَآءُوكَ  يَحْلِفُونَ  بِٱللَّـهِ  إِنْ  أَرَدْنَآ  إِلَّآ  إِحْسَٰنًا  وَتَوْفِيقًا fa‑kayfa idhā aṣābathum muṣībatun bi‑mā qaddamat aydīhim thumma jāʾūka yaḥlifūna billāhi in aradnā illā iḥsānan wa‑tawfīqan
How then, when they are seized by misfortune, because of the deeds which they hands have sent forth? Then their come to thee, swearing by Allah: "We meant no more than good-will and conciliation!"

Surah 5 al-Māʾidah (The Table Spread)
(5:29)

إِنِّىٓ  أُرِيدُ  أَن  تَبُوٓأَ  بِإِثْمِى  وَإِثْمِكَ  فَتَكُونَ  مِنْ  أَصْحَٰبِ  ٱلنَّارِ  وَذَٰلِكَ  جَزَٰٓؤُا۟  ٱلظَّٰلِمِينَ innī urīdu an tabūʾa biithmī waithmika fa‑takūna min aṣḥābi l‑nāri wa‑dhālika jazāʾu l‑ẓālimīna
"For me, I intend to let thee draw on thyself my sin as well as thine, for thou wilt be among the companions of the fire, and that is the reward of those who do wrong."
(5:113)

قَالُوا۟  نُرِيدُ  أَن  نَّأْكُلَ  مِنْهَا  وَتَطْمَئِنَّ  قُلُوبُنَا  وَنَعْلَمَ  أَن  قَدْ  صَدَقْتَنَا  وَنَكُونَ  عَلَيْهَا  مِنَ  ٱلشَّٰهِدِينَ qālū nurīdu an nnakula minhā wa‑taṭmaʾinna qulūbunā wa‑naʿlama an qad ṣadaqtanā wa‑nakūna ʿalayhā mina l‑shāhidīna
They said: "We only wish to eat thereof and satisfy our hearts, and to know that thou hast indeed told us the truth; and that we ourselves may be witnesses to the miracle."

Surah 9 al-Tawbah (Repentance)
(9:107)

وَٱلَّذِينَ  ٱتَّخَذُوا۟  مَسْجِدًا  ضِرَارًا  وَكُفْرًا  وَتَفْرِيقًۢا  بَيْنَ  ٱلْمُؤْمِنِينَ  وَإِرْصَادًا  لِّمَنْ  حَارَبَ  ٱللَّـهَ  وَرَسُولَهُۥ  مِن  قَبْلُ  وَلَيَحْلِفُنَّ  إِنْ  أَرَدْنَآ  إِلَّا  ٱلْحُسْنَىٰ  وَٱللَّـهُ  يَشْهَدُ  إِنَّهُمْ  لَكَٰذِبُونَ wa‑lladhīna ittakhadhū masjidan ḍirāran wa‑kufran wa‑tafrīqan bayna l‑muʾminīna wa‑irṣādan li‑man ḥāraba allāha wa‑rasūlahu min qablu wa‑la‑yaḥlifunna in aradnā illā l‑ḥusnā wallāhu yashhadu innahum la‑kādhibūna
And there are those who put up a mosque by way of mischief and infidelity - to disunite the Believers - and in preparation for one who warred against Allah and His Messenger aforetime. They will indeed swear that their intention is nothing but good; But Allah doth declare that they are certainly liars.

Surah 11 Hūd (Hud)
(11:34)

وَلَا  يَنفَعُكُمْ  نُصْحِىٓ  إِنْ  أَرَدتُّ  أَنْ  أَنصَحَ  لَكُمْ  إِن  كَانَ  ٱللَّـهُ  يُرِيدُ  أَن  يُغْوِيَكُمْ  هُوَ  رَبُّكُمْ  وَإِلَيْهِ  تُرْجَعُونَ wa‑lā yanfaʿukum nuṣḥī in aradttu an anṣaḥa la‑kum in kāna allāhu yurīdu an yughwiyakum huwa rabbukum wa‑ilayhi turjaʿūna
"Of no profit will be my counsel to you, much as I desire to give you (good) counsel, if it be that Allah willeth to leave you astray: He is your Lord! and to Him will ye return!"
(11:79)

قَالُوا۟  لَقَدْ  عَلِمْتَ  مَا  لَنَا  فِى  بَنَاتِكَ  مِنْ  حَقٍّ  وَإِنَّكَ  لَتَعْلَمُ  مَا  نُرِيدُ qālū la‑qad ʿalimta la‑nā banātika min ḥaqqin wainnaka lataʿlamu nurīdu
They said: "Well dost thou know we have no need of thy daughters: indeed thou knowest quite well what we want!"
(11:88)

قَالَ  يَٰقَوْمِ  أَرَءَيْتُمْ  إِن  كُنتُ  عَلَىٰ  بَيِّنَةٍ  مِّن  رَّبِّى  وَرَزَقَنِى  مِنْهُ  رِزْقًا  حَسَنًا  وَمَآ  أُرِيدُ  أَنْ  أُخَالِفَكُمْ  إِلَىٰ  مَآ  أَنْهَىٰكُمْ  عَنْهُ  إِنْ  أُرِيدُ  إِلَّا  ٱلْإِصْلَٰحَ  مَا  ٱسْتَطَعْتُ  وَمَا  تَوْفِيقِىٓ  إِلَّا  بِٱللَّـهِ  عَلَيْهِ  تَوَكَّلْتُ  وَإِلَيْهِ  أُنِيبُ qalā yā‑qawmi a‑raʾaytum in kuntu ʿalā bayyinatin min rrabbī wa‑razaqanī minhu rizqan ḥasanan wa‑mā urīdu an ukhālifakum ilā anhakum ʿanhu in urīdu illā l‑iṣlāḥa istaṭaʿtu wa‑mā tawfīqī illā billāhi ʿalayhi tawakkaltu wa‑ilayhi unību
He said: "O my people! see ye whether I have a Clear (Sign) from my Lord, and He hath given me sustenance (pure and) good as from Himself? I wish not, in opposition to you, to do that which I forbid you to do. I only desire (your) betterment to the best of my power; and my success (in my task) can only come from Allah. In Him I trust, and unto Him I look.

Surah 12 Yūsuf (Joseph)
(12:32)

قَالَتْ  فَذَٰلِكُنَّ  ٱلَّذِى  لُمْتُنَّنِى  فِيهِ  وَلَقَدْ  رَٰوَدتُّهُۥ  عَن  نَّفْسِهِۦ  فَٱسْتَعْصَمَ  وَلَئِن  لَّمْ  يَفْعَلْ  مَآ  ءَامُرُهُۥ  لَيُسْجَنَنَّ  وَلَيَكُونًا  مِّنَ  ٱلصَّٰغِرِينَ qālat fa‑dhālikunna alladhī lumtunnanī fīhi wa‑la‑qad rāwadttuhu ʿan nafsihi fa‑istaʿṣama wa‑laʾin lam yafʿal āmuruhu la‑yusjananna wa‑la‑yakūnan mina l‑ṣāghirīna
She said: "There before you is the man about whom ye did blame me! I did seek to seduce him from his (true) self but he did firmly save himself guiltless!....and now, if he doth not my bidding, he shall certainly be cast into prison, and (what is more) be of the company of the vilest!"
(12:51)

قَالَ  مَا  خَطْبُكُنَّ  إِذْ  رَٰوَدتُّنَّ  يُوسُفَ  عَن  نَّفْسِهِۦ  قُلْنَ  حَٰشَ  لِلَّـهِ  مَا  عَلِمْنَا  عَلَيْهِ  مِن  سُوٓءٍ  قَالَتِ  ٱمْرَأَتُ  ٱلْعَزِيزِ  ٱلْـَٰٔنَ  حَصْحَصَ  ٱلْحَقُّ  أَنَا۠  رَٰوَدتُّهُۥ  عَن  نَّفْسِهِۦ  وَإِنَّهُۥ  لَمِنَ  ٱلصَّٰدِقِينَ qalā khaṭbukunna idh rāwadttunna yūsufa ʿan nafsihi qulna ḥāsha lillāhi ʿalimnā ʿalayhi min sūʾin qālati imraʾatu l‑ʿazīzi l‑ana ḥaṣḥaṣa l‑ḥaqqu anā rāwadttuhu ʿan nafsihi wa‑innahu la‑mina l‑ṣādiqīna
(The king) said (to the ladies): "What was your affair when ye did seek to seduce Joseph from his (true) self?" The ladies said: "Allah preserve us! no evil know we against him!" Said the 'Aziz's wife: "Now is the truth manifest (to all): it was I who sought to seduce him from his (true) self: He is indeed of those who are (ever) true (and virtuous).
(12:61)

قَالُوا۟  سَنُرَٰوِدُ  عَنْهُ  أَبَاهُ  وَإِنَّا  لَفَٰعِلُونَ qālū sanurāwidu ʿanhu abāhu wa‑innā la‑fāʿilūna
They said: "We shall certainly seek to get our wish about him from his father: Indeed we shall do it."

Surah 16 al-Naḥl (The Bee)
(16:40)

إِنَّمَا  قَوْلُنَا  لِشَىْءٍ  إِذَآ  أَرَدْنَٰهُ  أَن  نَّقُولَ  لَهُۥ  كُن  فَيَكُونُ innamā qawlunā li‑shayʾin idhā aradnāhu an nnaqūla lahu kun fa‑yakūnu
For to anything which We have willed, We but say the word, "Be", and it is.

Surah 17 al-Isrāʾ (The Children of Israel)
(17:16)

وَإِذَآ  أَرَدْنَآ  أَن  نُّهْلِكَ  قَرْيَةً  أَمَرْنَا  مُتْرَفِيهَا  فَفَسَقُوا۟  فِيهَا  فَحَقَّ  عَلَيْهَا  ٱلْقَوْلُ  فَدَمَّرْنَٰهَا  تَدْمِيرًا wa‑idhā aradnā an nnuhlika qaryatan amarnā mutrafīhā fa‑fasaqū fīhā fa‑ḥaqqa ʿalayhā l‑qawlu fa‑dammarnāhā tadmīran
When We decide to destroy a population, We (first) send a definite order to those among them who are given the good things of this life and yet transgress; so that the word is proved true against them: then (it is) We destroy them utterly.
(17:18)

مَّن  كَانَ  يُرِيدُ  ٱلْعَاجِلَةَ  عَجَّلْنَا  لَهُۥ  فِيهَا  مَا  نَشَآءُ  لِمَن  نُّرِيدُ  ثُمَّ  جَعَلْنَا  لَهُۥ  جَهَنَّمَ  يَصْلَىٰهَا  مَذْمُومًا  مَّدْحُورًا man kāna yurīdu l‑ʿājilata ʿajjalnā lahu fīhā nashāʾu li‑man nnurīdu thumma jaʿalnā lahu jahannama yaṣlāhā madhmūman madḥūran
If any do wish for the transitory things (of this life), We readily grant them - such things as We will, to such person as We will: in the end have We provided Hell for them: they will burn therein, disgraced and rejected.

Surah 18 al-Kahf (The Cave)
(18:79)

أَمَّا  ٱلسَّفِينَةُ  فَكَانَتْ  لِمَسَٰكِينَ  يَعْمَلُونَ  فِى  ٱلْبَحْرِ  فَأَرَدتُّ  أَنْ  أَعِيبَهَا  وَكَانَ  وَرَآءَهُم  مَّلِكٌ  يَأْخُذُ  كُلَّ  سَفِينَةٍ  غَصْبًا ammā l‑safīnatu fa‑kānat li‑masākīna yaʿmalūna l‑baḥri fa‑aradttu an aʿībahā wa‑kāna warāʾahum malikun yaʾkhudhu kulla safīnatin ghaṣban
"As for the boat, it belonged to certain men in dire want: they plied on the water: I but wished to render it unserviceable, for there was after them a certain king who seized on every boat by force.
(18:81)

فَأَرَدْنَآ  أَن  يُبْدِلَهُمَا  رَبُّهُمَا  خَيْرًا  مِّنْهُ  زَكَوٰةً  وَأَقْرَبَ  رُحْمًا faaradnā an yubdilahumā rabbuhumā khayran minhu zakawtan wa‑aqraba ruḥman
"So we desired that their Lord would give them in exchange (a son) better in purity (of conduct) and closer in affection.

Surah 21 al-Anbiyāʾ (The Prophets)
(21:17)

لَوْ  أَرَدْنَآ  أَن  نَّتَّخِذَ  لَهْوًا  لَّٱتَّخَذْنَٰهُ  مِن  لَّدُنَّآ  إِن  كُنَّا  فَٰعِلِينَ law aradnā an nnattakhidha lahwan la‑ittakhadhnāhu min lladunnā in kunnā fāʿilīna
If it had been Our wish to take (just) a pastime, We should surely have taken it from the things nearest to Us, if We would do (such a thing)!

Surah 28 al-Qaṣaṣ (The Narrative)
(28:5)

وَنُرِيدُ  أَن  نَّمُنَّ  عَلَى  ٱلَّذِينَ  ٱسْتُضْعِفُوا۟  فِى  ٱلْأَرْضِ  وَنَجْعَلَهُمْ  أَئِمَّةً  وَنَجْعَلَهُمُ  ٱلْوَٰرِثِينَ wa‑nurīdu an nnamunna ʿalā lladhīna istuḍʿifū l‑arḍi wa‑najʿalahum aʾimmatan wa‑najʿalahumu l‑wārithīna
And We wished to be Gracious to those who were being depressed in the land, to make them leaders (in Faith) and make them heirs,
(28:27)

قَالَ  إِنِّىٓ  أُرِيدُ  أَنْ  أُنكِحَكَ  إِحْدَى  ٱبْنَتَىَّ  هَٰتَيْنِ  عَلَىٰٓ  أَن  تَأْجُرَنِى  ثَمَٰنِىَ  حِجَجٍ  فَإِنْ  أَتْمَمْتَ  عَشْرًا  فَمِنْ  عِندِكَ  وَمَآ  أُرِيدُ  أَنْ  أَشُقَّ  عَلَيْكَ  سَتَجِدُنِىٓ  إِن  شَآءَ  ٱللَّـهُ  مِنَ  ٱلصَّٰلِحِينَ qalā innī urīdu an unkiḥaka iḥda bnataya hātayni ʿala an taʾjuranī thamāniya ḥijajin fa‑in atmamta ʿashran famin ʿindika wa‑mā urīdu an ashuqqa ʿalayka sa‑tajidunī in shāʾa allāhu mina l‑ṣāliḥīna
He said: "I intend to wed one of these my daughters to thee, on condition that thou serve me for eight years; but if thou complete ten years, it will be (grace) from thee. But I intend not to place thee under a difficulty: thou wilt find me, indeed, if Allah wills, one of the righteous."

Surah 51 al-Dhāriyāt (The Scatterers)
(51:57)

مَآ  أُرِيدُ  مِنْهُم  مِّن  رِّزْقٍ  وَمَآ  أُرِيدُ  أَن  يُطْعِمُونِ urīdu minhum min rrizqin wa‑mā urīdu an yuṭʿimūni
No Sustenance do I require of them, nor do I require that they should feed Me.

Surah 76 al-Insān (The Man)
(76:9)

إِنَّمَا  نُطْعِمُكُمْ  لِوَجْهِ  ٱللَّـهِ  لَا  نُرِيدُ  مِنكُمْ  جَزَآءً  وَلَا  شُكُورًا innamā nuṭʿimukum liwajhi allāhi nurīdu minkum jazāʾan wa‑lā shukūran
(Saying),"We feed you for the sake of Allah alone: no reward do we desire from you, nor thanks.
