Surah 2 al-Baqara (The Cow)
RefArabic    TransliterationTranslation
(2:61)

And remember ye said: "O Moses! we cannot endure one kind of food (always); so beseech thy Lord for us to produce for us of what the earth groweth, -its pot-herbs, and cucumbers, Its garlic, lentils, and onions." He said: "Will ye exchange the better for the worse? Go ye down to any town, and ye shall find what ye want!" They were covered with humiliation and misery; they drew on themselves the wrath of Allah. This because they went on rejecting the Signs of Allah and slaying His Messengers without just cause. This because they rebelled and went on transgressing.
(2:108)

أَمْ  تُرِيدُونَ  أَن  تَسْـَٔلُوا۟  رَسُولَكُمْ  كَمَا  سُئِلَ  مُوسَىٰ  مِن  قَبْلُ  وَمَن  يَتَبَدَّلِ  ٱلْكُفْرَ  بِٱلْإِيمَٰنِ  فَقَدْ  ضَلَّ  سَوَآءَ  ٱلسَّبِيلِ am turīdūna an tasʾalū rasūlakum ka‑mā suʾila mūsā min qablu wa‑man yatabaddali l‑kufra bi‑l‑īmāni fa‑qad ḍalla sawāʾa l‑sabīli
Would ye question your Messenger as Moses was questioned of old? but whoever changeth from Faith to Unbelief, Hath strayed without doubt from the even way.
(2:119)

إِنَّآ  أَرْسَلْنَٰكَ  بِٱلْحَقِّ  بَشِيرًا  وَنَذِيرًا  وَلَا  تُسْـَٔلُ  عَنْ  أَصْحَٰبِ  ٱلْجَحِيمِ innā arsalnāka bil‑ḥaqqi bashīran wa‑nadhīran wa‑lā tusʾalu ʿan aṣḥābi l‑jaḥīmi
Verily We have sent thee in truth as a bearer of glad tidings and a warner: But of thee no question shall be asked of the Companions of the Blazing Fire.
(2:134)

That was a people that hath passed away. They shall reap the fruit of what they did, and ye of what ye do! Of their merits there is no question in your case!
(2:141)

That was a people that hath passed away. They shall reap the fruit of what they did, and ye of what ye do! Of their merits there is no question in your case:
(2:211)

سَلْ  بَنِىٓ  إِسْرَٰٓءِيلَ  كَمْ  ءَاتَيْنَٰهُم  مِّنْ  ءَايَةٍۭ  بَيِّنَةٍ  وَمَن  يُبَدِّلْ  نِعْمَةَ  ٱللَّـهِ  مِنۢ  بَعْدِ  مَا  جَآءَتْهُ  فَإِنَّ  ٱللَّـهَ  شَدِيدُ  ٱلْعِقَابِ sal banī isrāʾīla kam ātaynāhum min āyatin bayyinatin wa‑man yubaddil niʿmata allāhi min baʿdi jāʾathu fa‑inna allāha shadīdu l‑ʿiqābi
Ask the Children of Israel how many clear (Signs) We have sent them. But if any one, after Allah's favour has come to him, substitutes (something else), Allah is strict in punishment.

Surah 4 al-Nisāʾ (The Women)
(4:1)

O mankind! reverence your Guardian-Lord, who created you from a single person, created, of like nature, His mate, and from them twain scattered (like seeds) countless men and women;- reverence Allah, through whom ye demand your mutual (rights), and (reverence) the wombs (That bore you): for Allah ever watches over you.
(4:32)

وَلَا  تَتَمَنَّوْا۟  مَا  فَضَّلَ  ٱللَّـهُ  بِهِۦ  بَعْضَكُمْ  عَلَىٰ  بَعْضٍ  لِّلرِّجَالِ  نَصِيبٌ  مِّمَّا  ٱكْتَسَبُوا۟  وَلِلنِّسَآءِ  نَصِيبٌ  مِّمَّا  ٱكْتَسَبْنَ  وَسْـَٔلُوا۟  ٱللَّـهَ  مِن  فَضْلِهِۦٓ  إِنَّ  ٱللَّـهَ  كَانَ  بِكُلِّ  شَىْءٍ  عَلِيمًا wa‑lā tatamannaw faḍḍala allāhu bihi baʿḍakum ʿalā baʿḍin lil‑rijāli naṣībun mimmā iktasabū wa‑lil‑nisāʾi naṣībun mimmā iktasabna wa‑sʾalū allāha min faḍlihi inna allāha kāna bi‑kulli shayʾin ʿalīman
And in no wise covet those things in which Allah Hath bestowed His gifts More freely on some of you than on others: To men is allotted what they earn, and to women what they earn: But ask Allah of His bounty. For Allah hath full knowledge of all things.

Surah 5 al-Māʾidah (The Table Spread)
(5:101)

يَٰٓأَيُّهَا  ٱلَّذِينَ  ءَامَنُوا۟  لَا  تَسْـَٔلُوا۟  عَنْ  أَشْيَآءَ  إِن  تُبْدَ  لَكُمْ  تَسُؤْكُمْ  وَإِن  تَسْـَٔلُوا۟  عَنْهَا  حِينَ  يُنَزَّلُ  ٱلْقُرْءَانُ  تُبْدَ  لَكُمْ  عَفَا  ٱللَّـهُ  عَنْهَا  وَٱللَّـهُ  غَفُورٌ  حَلِيمٌ yā‑ayyuhā lladhīna āmanū tasʾalū ʿan ashyāʾa in tubda la‑kum tasukum wa‑in tasʾalū ʿanhā ḥīna yunazzalu l‑qurʾānu tubda la‑kum ʿafā allāhu ʿanhā wallāhu ghafūrun ḥalīmun
O ye who believe! Ask not questions about things which, if made plain to you, may cause you trouble. But if ye ask about things when the Qur'an is being revealed, they will be made plain to you, Allah will forgive those: for Allah is Oft-forgiving, Most Forbearing.

Surah 7 al-Aʿrāf (The Heights)
(7:163)

وَسْـَٔلْهُمْ  عَنِ  ٱلْقَرْيَةِ  ٱلَّتِى  كَانَتْ  حَاضِرَةَ  ٱلْبَحْرِ  إِذْ  يَعْدُونَ  فِى  ٱلسَّبْتِ  إِذْ  تَأْتِيهِمْ  حِيتَانُهُمْ  يَوْمَ  سَبْتِهِمْ  شُرَّعًا  وَيَوْمَ  لَا  يَسْبِتُونَ  لَا  تَأْتِيهِمْ  كَذَٰلِكَ  نَبْلُوهُم  بِمَا  كَانُوا۟  يَفْسُقُونَ wa‑sʾalhum ʿani l‑qaryati allatī kānat ḥāḍirata l‑baḥri idh yaʿdūna l‑sabti idh taʾtīhim ḥītānuhum yawma sabtihim shurraʿan wa‑yawma yasbitūna taʾtīhim ka‑dhālika nablūhum bi‑mā kānū yafsuqūna
Ask them concerning the town standing close by the sea. Behold! they transgressed in the matter of the Sabbath. For on the day of their Sabbath their fish did come to them, openly holding up their heads, but on the day they had no Sabbath, they came not: thus did We make a trial of them, for they were given to transgression.

Surah 9 al-Tawbah (Repentance)
(9:65)

وَلَئِن  سَأَلْتَهُمْ  لَيَقُولُنَّ  إِنَّمَا  كُنَّا  نَخُوضُ  وَنَلْعَبُ  قُلْ  أَبِٱللَّهِ  وَءَايَٰتِهِۦ  وَرَسُولِهِۦ  كُنتُمْ  تَسْتَهْزِءُونَ wa‑laʾin saʾaltahum la‑yaqūlunna innamā kunnā nakhūḍu wa‑nalʿabu qul a‑billahi wa‑āyātihi wa‑rasūlihi kuntum tastahziʾūna
If thou dost question them, they declare (with emphasis): "We were only talking idly and in play." Say: "Was it at Allah, and His Signs, and His Messenger, that ye were mocking?"

Surah 10 Yūnus (Jonah)
(10:94)

فَإِن  كُنتَ  فِى  شَكٍّ  مِّمَّآ  أَنزَلْنَآ  إِلَيْكَ  فَسْـَٔلِ  ٱلَّذِينَ  يَقْرَءُونَ  ٱلْكِتَٰبَ  مِن  قَبْلِكَ  لَقَدْ  جَآءَكَ  ٱلْحَقُّ  مِن  رَّبِّكَ  فَلَا  تَكُونَنَّ  مِنَ  ٱلْمُمْتَرِينَ fa‑in kunta shakkin mimmā anzalnā ilayka fa‑sʾali lladhīna yaqraʾūna l‑kitāba min qablika la‑qad jāʾaka l‑ḥaqqu min rabbika fa‑lā takūnanna mina l‑mumtarīna
If thou wert in doubt as to what We have revealed unto thee, then ask those who have been reading the Book from before thee: the Truth hath indeed come to thee from thy Lord: so be in no wise of those in doubt.

Surah 12 Yūsuf (Joseph)
(12:50)

وَقَالَ  ٱلْمَلِكُ  ٱئْتُونِى  بِهِۦ  فَلَمَّا  جَآءَهُ  ٱلرَّسُولُ  قَالَ  ٱرْجِعْ  إِلَىٰ  رَبِّكَ  فَسْـَٔلْهُ  مَا  بَالُ  ٱلنِّسْوَةِ  ٱلَّٰتِى  قَطَّعْنَ  أَيْدِيَهُنَّ  إِنَّ  رَبِّى  بِكَيْدِهِنَّ  عَلِيمٌ wa‑qāla l‑maliku iʾtūnī bihi fa‑lammā jāʾahu l‑rasūlu qalā irjiʿ ilā rabbika fa‑sʾalhu bālu l‑niswati allātī qaṭṭaʿna aydiyahunna inna rabbī bi‑kaydihinna ʿalīmun
So the king said: "Bring ye him unto me." But when the messenger came to him, (Joseph) said: "Go thou back to thy lord, and ask him, 'What is the state of mind of the ladies who cut their hands'? For my Lord is certainly well aware of their snare."
(12:82)

"'Ask at the town where we have been and the caravan in which we returned, and (you will find) we are indeed telling the truth.'"
(12:104)

وَمَا  تَسْـَٔلُهُمْ  عَلَيْهِ  مِنْ  أَجْرٍ  إِنْ  هُوَ  إِلَّا  ذِكْرٌ  لِّلْعَٰلَمِينَ wa‑mā tasʾaluhum ʿalayhi min ajrin in huwa illā dhikrun lil‑ʿālamīna
And no reward dost thou ask of them for this: it is no less than a message for all creatures.

Surah 14 Ibrāhīm (Abraham)
(14:34)

وَءَاتَىٰكُم  مِّن  كُلِّ  مَا  سَأَلْتُمُوهُ  وَإِن  تَعُدُّوا۟  نِعْمَتَ  ٱللَّـهِ  لَا  تُحْصُوهَآ  إِنَّ  ٱلْإِنسَٰنَ  لَظَلُومٌ  كَفَّارٌ wa‑ātakum min kulli saʾaltumūhu wa‑in taʿuddū niʿmata allāhi tuḥṣūhā inna l‑insāna la‑ẓalūmun kaffārun
And He giveth you of all that ye ask for. But if ye count the favours of Allah, never will ye be able to number them. Verily, man is given up to injustice and ingratitude.

Surah 16 al-Naḥl (The Bee)
(16:43)

وَمَآ  أَرْسَلْنَا  مِن  قَبْلِكَ  إِلَّا  رِجَالًا  نُّوحِىٓ  إِلَيْهِمْ  فَسْـَٔلُوٓا۟  أَهْلَ  ٱلذِّكْرِ  إِن  كُنتُمْ  لَا  تَعْلَمُونَ wa‑mā arsalnā min qablika illā rijālan nnūḥī ilayhim fa‑sʾalū ahla l‑dhikri in kuntum taʿlamūna
And before thee also the messengers We sent were but men, to whom We granted inspiration: if ye realise this not, ask of those who possess the Message.
(16:56)

And they (even) assign, to things they do not know, a portion out of that which We have bestowed for their sustenance! By Allah, ye shall certainly be called to account for your false inventions.
(16:93)

وَلَوْ  شَآءَ  ٱللَّـهُ  لَجَعَلَكُمْ  أُمَّةً  وَٰحِدَةً  وَلَٰكِن  يُضِلُّ  مَن  يَشَآءُ  وَيَهْدِى  مَن  يَشَآءُ  وَلَتُسْـَٔلُنَّ  عَمَّا  كُنتُمْ  تَعْمَلُونَ wa‑law shāʾa allāhu lajaʿalakum ummatan wāḥidatan wa‑lākin yuḍillu man yashāʾu wa‑yahdī man yashāʾu wa‑la‑tusʾalunna ʿammā kuntum taʿmalūna
If Allah so willed, He could make you all one people: But He leaves straying whom He pleases, and He guides whom He pleases: but ye shall certainly be called to account for all your actions.

Surah 17 al-Isrāʾ (The Children of Israel)
(17:101)

وَلَقَدْ  ءَاتَيْنَا  مُوسَىٰ  تِسْعَ  ءَايَٰتٍۭ  بَيِّنَٰتٍ  فَسْـَٔلْ  بَنِىٓ  إِسْرَٰٓءِيلَ  إِذْ  جَآءَهُمْ  فَقَالَ  لَهُۥ  فِرْعَوْنُ  إِنِّى  لَأَظُنُّكَ  يَٰمُوسَىٰ  مَسْحُورًا wa‑la‑qad ātaynā mūsā tisʿa āyātin bayyinātin fa‑sʾal banī isrāʾīla idh jāʾahum fa‑qāla lahu firʿawun innī la‑aẓunnuka yā‑mūsā masḥūran
To Moses We did give Nine Clear Signs: Ask the Children of Israel: when he came to them, Pharaoh said to him: "O Moses! I consider thee, indeed, to have been worked upon by sorcery!

Surah 18 al-Kahf (The Cave)
(18:70)

قَالَ  فَإِنِ  ٱتَّبَعْتَنِى  فَلَا  تَسْـَٔلْنِى  عَن  شَىْءٍ  حَتَّىٰٓ  أُحْدِثَ  لَكَ  مِنْهُ  ذِكْرًا qalā fa‑ini ittabaʿtanī fa‑lā tasʾalnī ʿan shayʾin ḥatta uḥditha la‑ka minhu dhikran
The other said: "If then thou wouldst follow me, ask me no questions about anything until I myself speak to thee concerning it."

Surah 21 al-Anbiyāʾ (The Prophets)
(21:7)

وَمَآ  أَرْسَلْنَا  قَبْلَكَ  إِلَّا  رِجَالًا  نُّوحِىٓ  إِلَيْهِمْ  فَسْـَٔلُوٓا۟  أَهْلَ  ٱلذِّكْرِ  إِن  كُنتُمْ  لَا  تَعْلَمُونَ wa‑mā arsalnā qablaka illā rijālan nnūḥī ilayhim fa‑sʾalū ahla l‑dhikri in kuntum taʿlamūna
Before thee, also, the messengers We sent were but men, to whom We granted inspiration: If ye realise this not, ask of those who possess the Message.
(21:13)

Flee not, but return to the good things of this life which were given you, and to your homes in order that ye may be called to account.
(21:63)

قَالَ  بَلْ  فَعَلَهُۥ  كَبِيرُهُمْ  هَٰذَا  فَسْـَٔلُوهُمْ  إِن  كَانُوا۟  يَنطِقُونَ qalā bal faʿalahu kabīruhum hādhā fa‑sʾalūhum in kānū yanṭiqūna
He said: "Nay, this was done by - this is their biggest one! ask them, if they can speak intelligently!"

Surah 23 al-Muʾminūn (The Believers)
(23:72)

Or is it that thou askest them for some recompense? But the recompense of thy Lord is best: He is the Best of those who give sustenance.
(23:113)

They will say: "We stayed a day or part of a day: but ask those who keep account."

Surah 25 al-Furqān (The Criterion)
(25:59)

He Who created the heavens and the earth and all that is between, in six days, and is firmly established on the Throne (of Authority): Allah Most Gracious: ask thou, then, about Him of any acquainted (with such things).

Surah 29 al-ʿAnkabūt (The Spider)
(29:61)

وَلَئِن  سَأَلْتَهُم  مَّنْ  خَلَقَ  ٱلسَّمَٰوَٰتِ  وَٱلْأَرْضَ  وَسَخَّرَ  ٱلشَّمْسَ  وَٱلْقَمَرَ  لَيَقُولُنَّ  ٱللَّـهُ  فَأَنَّىٰ  يُؤْفَكُونَ wa‑laʾin saʾaltahum man khalaqa l‑samāwāti wa‑l‑arḍa wa‑sakhkhara l‑shamsa wa‑l‑qamara la‑yaqūlunna allāhu fa‑annā yuʾfakūna
If indeed thou ask them who has created the heavens and the earth and subjected the sun and the moon (to his Law), they will certainly reply, "Allah". How are they then deluded away (from the truth)?
(29:63)

وَلَئِن  سَأَلْتَهُم  مَّن  نَّزَّلَ  مِنَ  ٱلسَّمَآءِ  مَآءً  فَأَحْيَا  بِهِ  ٱلْأَرْضَ  مِنۢ  بَعْدِ  مَوْتِهَا  لَيَقُولُنَّ  ٱللَّـهُ  قُلِ  ٱلْحَمْدُ  لِلَّـهِ  بَلْ  أَكْثَرُهُمْ  لَا  يَعْقِلُونَ wa‑laʾin saʾaltahum man nnazzala mina l‑samāʾi māʾan fa‑aḥyā bihi l‑arḍa min baʿdi mawtihā la‑yaqūlunna allāhu quli l‑ḥamdu lillāhi bal aktharuhum yaʿqilūna
And if indeed thou ask them who it is that sends down rain from the sky, and gives life therewith to the earth after its death, they will certainly reply, "Allah!" Say, "Praise be to Allah!" But most of them understand not.

Surah 31 Luqmān (Lukman)
(31:25)

وَلَئِن  سَأَلْتَهُم  مَّنْ  خَلَقَ  ٱلسَّمَٰوَٰتِ  وَٱلْأَرْضَ  لَيَقُولُنَّ  ٱللَّـهُ  قُلِ  ٱلْحَمْدُ  لِلَّـهِ  بَلْ  أَكْثَرُهُمْ  لَا  يَعْلَمُونَ wa‑laʾin saʾaltahum man khalaqa l‑samāwāti wa‑l‑arḍa la‑yaqūlunna allāhu quli l‑ḥamdu lillāhi bal aktharuhum yaʿlamūna
If thou ask them, who it is that created the heavens and the earth. They will certainly say, "Allah". Say: "Praise be to Allah!" But most of them understand not.

Surah 33 al-Aḥzāb (The Allies)
(33:53)

يَٰٓأَيُّهَا  ٱلَّذِينَ  ءَامَنُوا۟  لَا  تَدْخُلُوا۟  بُيُوتَ  ٱلنَّبِىِّ  إِلَّآ  أَن  يُؤْذَنَ  لَكُمْ  إِلَىٰ  طَعَامٍ  غَيْرَ  نَٰظِرِينَ  إِنَىٰهُ  وَلَٰكِنْ  إِذَا  دُعِيتُمْ  فَٱدْخُلُوا۟  فَإِذَا  طَعِمْتُمْ  فَٱنتَشِرُوا۟  وَلَا  مُسْتَـْٔنِسِينَ  لِحَدِيثٍ  إِنَّ  ذَٰلِكُمْ  كَانَ  يُؤْذِى  ٱلنَّبِىَّ  فَيَسْتَحْىِۦ  مِنكُمْ  وَٱللَّـهُ  لَا  يَسْتَحْىِۦ  مِنَ  ٱلْحَقِّ  وَإِذَا  سَأَلْتُمُوهُنَّ  مَتَٰعًا  فَسْـَٔلُوهُنَّ  مِن  وَرَآءِ  حِجَابٍ  ذَٰلِكُمْ  أَطْهَرُ  لِقُلُوبِكُمْ  وَقُلُوبِهِنَّ  وَمَا  كَانَ  لَكُمْ  أَن  تُؤْذُوا۟  رَسُولَ  ٱللَّـهِ  وَلَآ  أَن  تَنكِحُوٓا۟  أَزْوَٰجَهُۥ  مِنۢ  بَعْدِهِۦٓ  أَبَدًا  إِنَّ  ذَٰلِكُمْ  كَانَ  عِندَ  ٱللَّـهِ  عَظِيمًا yā‑ayyuhā lladhīna āmanū tadkhulū buyūta l‑nabiyyi illā an yudhana la‑kum ilā ṭaʿāmin ghayra nāẓirīna inahu wa‑lākin idhā duʿītum fa‑idkhulū fa‑idhā ṭaʿimtum fa‑intashirū wa‑lā mustaʾnisīna li‑ḥadīthin inna dhālikum kāna yuʾdhī l‑nabiyya fa‑yastaḥyi minkum wallāhu yastaḥyi mina l‑ḥaqqi wa‑idhā saʾaltumūhunna matāʿan fa‑sʾalūhunna min warāʾi ḥijābin dhālikum aṭharu li‑qulūbikum wa‑qulūbihinna wa‑mā kāna la‑kum an tuʾdhū rasūla allāhi wa‑lā an tankiḥū azwājahu min baʿdihi abadan inna dhālikum kāna ʿinda allāhi ʿaẓīman
O ye who believe! Enter not the Prophet's houses,- until leave is given you,- for a meal, (and then) not (so early as) to wait for its preparation: but when ye are invited, enter; and when ye have taken your meal, disperse, without seeking familiar talk. Such (behaviour) annoys the Prophet: he is ashamed to dismiss you, but Allah is not ashamed (to tell you) the truth. And when ye ask (his ladies) for anything ye want, ask them from before a screen: that makes for greater purity for your hearts and for theirs. Nor is it right for you that ye should annoy Allah's Messenger, or that ye should marry his widows after him at any time. Truly such a thing is in Allah's sight an enormity.

Surah 34 Sabaʾ (Sheba)
(34:25)

Say: "Ye shall not be questioned as to our sins, nor shall we be questioned as to what ye do."

Surah 39 al-Zumar (The Companies)
(39:38)

وَلَئِن  سَأَلْتَهُم  مَّنْ  خَلَقَ  ٱلسَّمَٰوَٰتِ  وَٱلْأَرْضَ  لَيَقُولُنَّ  ٱللَّـهُ  قُلْ  أَفَرَءَيْتُم  مَّا  تَدْعُونَ  مِن  دُونِ  ٱللَّـهِ  إِنْ  أَرَادَنِىَ  ٱللَّـهُ  بِضُرٍّ  هَلْ  هُنَّ  كَٰشِفَٰتُ  ضُرِّهِۦٓ  أَوْ  أَرَادَنِى  بِرَحْمَةٍ  هَلْ  هُنَّ  مُمْسِكَٰتُ  رَحْمَتِهِۦ  قُلْ  حَسْبِىَ  ٱللَّـهُ  عَلَيْهِ  يَتَوَكَّلُ  ٱلْمُتَوَكِّلُونَ wa‑laʾin saʾaltahum man khalaqa l‑samāwāti wa‑l‑arḍa la‑yaqūlunna allāhu qul a‑fa‑raʾaytum tadʿūna min dūni allāhi in arādaniya allāhu bi‑ḍurrin hal hunna kāshifātu ḍurrihi aw arādanī bi‑raḥmaṭin hal hunna mumsikātu raḥmatihi qul ḥasbiya allāhu ʿalayhi yatawakkalu l‑mutawakkilūna
If indeed thou ask them who it is that created the heavens and the earth, they would be sure to say, "Allah". Say: "See ye then? the things that ye invoke besides Allah,- can they, if Allah wills some Penalty for me, remove His Penalty?- Or if He wills some Grace for me, can they keep back his Grace?" Say: "Sufficient is Allah for me! In Him trust those who put their trust."

Surah 43 al-Zukhruf (The Embellishment)
(43:9)

وَلَئِن  سَأَلْتَهُم  مَّنْ  خَلَقَ  ٱلسَّمَٰوَٰتِ  وَٱلْأَرْضَ  لَيَقُولُنَّ  خَلَقَهُنَّ  ٱلْعَزِيزُ  ٱلْعَلِيمُ wa‑laʾin saʾaltahum man khalaqa l‑samāwāti wa‑l‑arḍa la‑yaqūlunna khalaqahunna l‑ʿazīzu l‑ʿalīmu
If thou wert to question them, 'Who created the heavens and the earth?' They would be sure to reply, 'they were created by (Him), the Exalted in Power, Full of Knowledge';-
(43:44)

The (Qur'an) is indeed the message, for thee and for thy people; and soon shall ye (all) be brought to account.
(43:45)

وَسْـَٔلْ  مَنْ  أَرْسَلْنَا  مِن  قَبْلِكَ  مِن  رُّسُلِنَآ  أَجَعَلْنَا  مِن  دُونِ  ٱلرَّحْمَٰنِ  ءَالِهَةً  يُعْبَدُونَ wa‑sal man arsalnā min qablika min rusulinā ajaʿalnā min dūni l‑raḥmāni ālihatan yuʿbadūna
And question thou our messengers whom We sent before thee; did We appoint any deities other than (Allah) Most Gracious, to be worshipped?
(43:87)

وَلَئِن  سَأَلْتَهُم  مَّنْ  خَلَقَهُمْ  لَيَقُولُنَّ  ٱللَّـهُ  فَأَنَّىٰ  يُؤْفَكُونَ wa‑laʾin saʾaltahum man khalaqahum la‑yaqūlunna allāhu fa‑annā yuʾfakūna
If thou ask them, who created them, they will certainly say, Allah: How then are they deluded away (from the Truth)?

Surah 52 al-Ṭūr (The Mountain)
(52:40)

Or is it that thou dost ask for a reward, so that they are burdened with a load of debt?-

Surah 60 al-Mumtaḥanah (She Who is Tested)
(60:10)

يَٰٓأَيُّهَا  ٱلَّذِينَ  ءَامَنُوٓا۟  إِذَا  جَآءَكُمُ  ٱلْمُؤْمِنَٰتُ  مُهَٰجِرَٰتٍ  فَٱمْتَحِنُوهُنَّ  ٱللَّـهُ  أَعْلَمُ  بِإِيمَٰنِهِنَّ  فَإِنْ  عَلِمْتُمُوهُنَّ  مُؤْمِنَٰتٍ  فَلَا  تَرْجِعُوهُنَّ  إِلَى  ٱلْكُفَّارِ  لَا  هُنَّ  حِلٌّ  لَّهُمْ  وَلَا  هُمْ  يَحِلُّونَ  لَهُنَّ  وَءَاتُوهُم  مَّآ  أَنفَقُوا۟  وَلَا  جُنَاحَ  عَلَيْكُمْ  أَن  تَنكِحُوهُنَّ  إِذَآ  ءَاتَيْتُمُوهُنَّ  أُجُورَهُنَّ  وَلَا  تُمْسِكُوا۟  بِعِصَمِ  ٱلْكَوَافِرِ  وَسْـَٔلُوا۟  مَآ  أَنفَقْتُمْ  وَلْيَسْـَٔلُوا۟  مَآ  أَنفَقُوا۟  ذَٰلِكُمْ  حُكْمُ  ٱللَّـهِ  يَحْكُمُ  بَيْنَكُمْ  وَٱللَّـهُ  عَلِيمٌ  حَكِيمٌ yā‑ayyuhā lladhīna āmanū idhā jāakumu l‑muʾminātu muhājirātin famtaḥinūhunna allāhu aʿlamu biīmānihinna fa‑in ʿalimtumūhunna muminatin fa‑lā tarjiʿūhunna ilā l‑kuffāri hunna ḥillun lahum wa‑lā hum yaḥillūna la‑hunna wa‑ātūhum anfaqū wa‑lā junāḥa ʿalaykum an tankiḥūhunna idhā ātaytumūhunna ujūrahunna wa‑lā tumsikū biʿiṣami l‑kawāfiri wa‑salū anfaqtum wa‑l‑yasʾalū anfaqū dhālikum ḥukmu allāhi yaḥkumu baynakum wallāhu ʿalīmun ḥakīmun
O ye who believe! When there come to you believing women refugees, examine (and test) them: Allah knows best as to their Faith: if ye ascertain that they are Believers, then send them not back to the Unbelievers. They are not lawful (wives) for the Unbelievers, nor are the (Unbelievers) lawful (husbands) for them. But pay the Unbelievers what they have spent (on their dower), and there will be no blame on you if ye marry them on payment of their dower to them. But hold not to the guardianship of unbelieving women: ask for what ye have spent on their dowers, and let the (Unbelievers) ask for what they have spent (on the dowers of women who come over to you). Such is the command of Allah: He judges (with justice) between you. And Allah is Full of Knowledge and Wisdom.

Surah 68 al-Qalam (The Pen)
(68:40)

Ask thou of them, which of them will stand surety for that!
(68:46)

Or is it that thou dost ask them for a reward, so that they are burdened with a load of debt?-

Surah 102 al-Takāthur (Worldly Gain)
(102:8)

ثُمَّ  لَتُسْـَٔلُنَّ  يَوْمَئِذٍ  عَنِ  ٱلنَّعِيمِ thumma la‑tusʾalunna yawmaʾidhin ʿani l‑naʿīmi
Then, shall ye be questioned that Day about the joy (ye indulged in!).
