Sura al-Baqara 2:34

وَإِذْ قُلْنَا لِلْمَلَٰٓئِكَةِ ٱسْجُدُوا۟ لِءَادَمَ فَسَجَدُوٓا۟ إِلَّآ إِبْلِيسَ أَبَىٰ وَٱسْتَكْبَرَ وَكَانَ مِنَ ٱلْكَٰفِرِينَ

wa-idh qulnā lil-malāʾikati isjudū li-ādama fa-sajadū illā iblīsa aba wa-istakbara wa-kāna mina l-kāfirīna

And behold, We said to the angels: "Bow down to Adam" and they bowed down. Not so Iblis: he refused and was haughty: He was of those who reject Faith.

Sura Āl-ʿImrān 3:43

يَٰمَرْيَمُ ٱقْنُتِى لِرَبِّكِ وَٱسْجُدِى وَٱرْكَعِى مَعَ ٱلرَّٰكِعِينَ

yā-maryamu uqnutī li-rabbiki wa-usjudī wa-urkaʿī maʿa l-rākiʿīna

"O Mary! worship Thy Lord devoutly: Prostrate thyself, and bow down (in prayer) with those who bow down."

Sura Āl-ʿImrān 3:113

لَيْسُوا۟ سَوَآءً مِّنْ أَهْلِ ٱلْكِتَٰبِ أُمَّةٌ قَآئِمَةٌ يَتْلُونَ ءَايَٰتِ ٱللَّـهِ ءَانَآءَ ٱلَّيْلِ وَهُمْ يَسْجُدُونَ

laysū sawāʾan min ahli l-kitābi ummatun qāʾimatun yatlūna āyāti allāhi ānāʾa l-layli wa-hum yasjudūna

Not all of them are alike: Of the People of the Book are a portion that stand (For the right): They rehearse the Signs of Allah all night long, and they prostrate themselves in adoration.

Sura al-Nisāʾ 4:102

وَإِذَا كُنتَ فِيهِمْ فَأَقَمْتَ لَهُمُ ٱلصَّلَوٰةَ فَلْتَقُمْ طَآئِفَةٌ مِّنْهُم مَّعَكَ وَلْيَأْخُذُوٓا۟ أَسْلِحَتَهُمْ فَإِذَا سَجَدُوا۟ فَلْيَكُونُوا۟ مِن وَرَآئِكُمْ وَلْتَأْتِ طَآئِفَةٌ أُخْرَىٰ لَمْ يُصَلُّوا۟ فَلْيُصَلُّوا۟ مَعَكَ وَلْيَأْخُذُوا۟ حِذْرَهُمْ وَأَسْلِحَتَهُمْ وَدَّ ٱلَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا۟ لَوْ تَغْفُلُونَ عَنْ أَسْلِحَتِكُمْ وَأَمْتِعَتِكُمْ فَيَمِيلُونَ عَلَيْكُم مَّيْلَةً وَٰحِدَةً وَلَا جُنَاحَ عَلَيْكُمْ إِن كَانَ بِكُمْ أَذًى مِّن مَّطَرٍ أَوْ كُنتُم مَّرْضَىٰٓ أَن تَضَعُوٓا۟ أَسْلِحَتَكُمْ وَخُذُوا۟ حِذْرَكُمْ إِنَّ ٱللَّـهَ أَعَدَّ لِلْكَٰفِرِينَ عَذَابًا مُّهِينًا

wa-idhā kunta fīhim fa-aqamta lahumu l-ṣalāta faltaqum ṭāʾifatun minhum maʿaka wa-lyakhudhū asliḥatahum fa-idhā sajadū falyakūnū min warāikum wa-ltati ṭāʾifatun ukhrā lam yuṣallū fa-lyuṣallū maʿaka wa-lyakhudhū ḥidhrahum waasliḥatahum wadda lladhīna kafarū law taghfulūna ʿan asliḥatikum wa-amtiʿatikum fa-yamīlūna ʿalaykum maylatan wāḥidatan wa-lā junāḥa ʿalaykum in kāna bikum adhan min maṭarin aw kuntum marḍā an taḍaʿū asliḥatakum wa-khudhū ḥidhrakum inna allāha aʿadda lil-kāfirīna ʿadhāban muhīnan

When thou (O Messenger) art with them, and standest to lead them in prayer, Let one party of them stand up (in prayer) with thee, Taking their arms with them: When they finish their prostrations, let them Take their position in the rear. And let the other party come up which hath not yet prayed - and let them pray with thee, Taking all precaution, and bearing arms: the Unbelievers wish, if ye were negligent of your arms and your baggage, to assault you in a single rush. But there is no blame on you if ye put away your arms because of the inconvenience of rain or because ye are ill; but take (every) precaution for yourselves. For the Unbelievers Allah hath prepared a humiliating punishment.

Sura al-Aʿrāf 7:11

وَلَقَدْ خَلَقْنَٰكُمْ ثُمَّ صَوَّرْنَٰكُمْ ثُمَّ قُلْنَا لِلْمَلَٰٓئِكَةِ ٱسْجُدُوا۟ لِءَادَمَ فَسَجَدُوٓا۟ إِلَّآ إِبْلِيسَ لَمْ يَكُن مِّنَ ٱلسَّٰجِدِينَ

wa-la-qad khalaqnākum thumma ṣawwarnākum thumma qulnā lil-malāʾikati isjudū li-ādama fa-sajadū illā iblīsa lam yakun mina l-sājidīna

It is We Who created you and gave you shape; then We bade the angels prostrate to Adam, and they prostrate; not so Iblis; He refused to be of those who prostrate.

Sura al-Aʿrāf 7:12

قَالَ مَا مَنَعَكَ أَلَّا تَسْجُدَ إِذْ أَمَرْتُكَ قَالَ أَنَا۠ خَيْرٌ مِّنْهُ خَلَقْتَنِى مِن نَّارٍ وَخَلَقْتَهُۥ مِن طِينٍ

qalā mā manaʿaka allā tasjuda idh amartuka qalā anā khayrun minhu khalaqtanī min nnārin wa-khalaqtahu min ṭīnin

(Allah) said: "What prevented thee from prostrating when I commanded thee?" He said: "I am better than he: Thou didst create me from fire, and him from clay."

Sura al-Aʿrāf 7:206

إِنَّ ٱلَّذِينَ عِندَ رَبِّكَ لَا يَسْتَكْبِرُونَ عَنْ عِبَادَتِهِۦ وَيُسَبِّحُونَهُۥ وَلَهُۥ يَسْجُدُونَ

inna lladhīna ʿinda rabbika lā yastakbirūna ʿan ʿibādatihi wa-yusabbiḥūnahu wa-lahu yasjudūna

Those who are near to thy Lord, disdain not to do Him worship: They celebrate His praises, and prostrate before Him.

Sura al-Raʿd 13:15

وَلِلَّەِ يَسْجُدُ مَن فِى ٱلسَّمَٰوَٰتِ وَٱلْأَرْضِ طَوْعًا وَكَرْهًا وَظِلَٰلُهُم بِٱلْغُدُوِّ وَٱلْأَصَالِ

wa-lillahi yasjudu man fī l-samāwāti wa-l-arḍi ṭawʿan wa-karhan wa-ẓilāluhum bil-ghuduwwi wa-l-aṣāli

Whatever beings there are in the heavens and the earth do prostrate themselves to Allah (Acknowledging subjection),- with good-will or in spite of themselves: so do their shadows in the morning and evenings.

Sura al-Ḥijr 15:30

فَسَجَدَ ٱلْمَلَٰٓئِكَةُ كُلُّهُمْ أَجْمَعُونَ

fa-sajada l-malāʾikatu kulluhum ajmaʿūna

So the angels prostrated themselves, all of them together:

Sura al-Ḥijr 15:33

قَالَ لَمْ أَكُن لِّأَسْجُدَ لِبَشَرٍ خَلَقْتَهُۥ مِن صَلْصَٰلٍ مِّنْ حَمَإٍ مَّسْنُونٍ

qalā lam akun li-asjuda li-basharin khalaqtahu min ṣalṣālin min ḥamāʾin masnūnin

(Iblis) said: "I am not one to prostrate myself to man, whom Thou didst create from sounding clay, from mud moulded into shape."

Sura al-Naḥl 16:49

وَلِلَّەِ يَسْجُدُ مَا فِى ٱلسَّمَٰوَٰتِ وَمَا فِى ٱلْأَرْضِ مِن دَآبَّةٍ وَٱلْمَلَٰٓئِكَةُ وَهُمْ لَا يَسْتَكْبِرُونَ

wa-lillahi yasjudu mā fī l-samāwāti wa-mā fī l-arḍi min dābbatin wa-l-malāʾikatu wa-hum lā yastakbirūna

And to Allah doth obeisance all that is in the heavens and on earth, whether moving (living) creatures or the angels: for none are arrogant (before their Lord).

Sura al-Isrāʾ 17:61

وَإِذْ قُلْنَا لِلْمَلَٰٓئِكَةِ ٱسْجُدُوا۟ لِءَادَمَ فَسَجَدُوٓا۟ إِلَّآ إِبْلِيسَ قَالَ ءَأَسْجُدُ لِمَنْ خَلَقْتَ طِينًا

wa-idh qulnā lil-malāʾikati isjudū li-ādama fa-sajadū illā iblīsa qalā a-asjudu liman khalaqta ṭīnan

Behold! We said to the angels: "Bow down unto Adam": They bowed down except Iblis: He said, "Shall I bow down to one whom Thou didst create from clay?"

Sura al-Kahf 18:50

وَإِذْ قُلْنَا لِلْمَلَٰٓئِكَةِ ٱسْجُدُوا۟ لِءَادَمَ فَسَجَدُوٓا۟ إِلَّآ إِبْلِيسَ كَانَ مِنَ ٱلْجِنِّ فَفَسَقَ عَنْ أَمْرِ رَبِّهِۦٓ أَفَتَتَّخِذُونَهُۥ وَذُرِّيَّتَهُۥٓ أَوْلِيَآءَ مِن دُونِى وَهُمْ لَكُمْ عَدُوٌّۢ بِئْسَ لِلظَّٰلِمِينَ بَدَلًا

wa-idh qulnā lil-malāʾikati isjudū li-ādama fa-sajadū illā iblīsa kāna mina l-jinni fa-fasaqa ʿan amri rabbihi a-fa-tattakhidhūnahu wa-dhurriyyatahu awliyāʾa min dūnī wa-hum la-kum ʿadūwun biʾsa lil-ẓālimīna badalan

Behold! We said to the angels, "Bow down to Adam": They bowed down except Iblis. He was one of the Jinns, and he broke the Command of his Lord. Will ye then take him and his progeny as protectors rather than Me? And they are enemies to you! Evil would be the exchange for the wrong-doers!

Sura Ṭā Hā 20:116

وَإِذْ قُلْنَا لِلْمَلَٰٓئِكَةِ ٱسْجُدُوا۟ لِءَادَمَ فَسَجَدُوٓا۟ إِلَّآ إِبْلِيسَ أَبَىٰ

wa-idh qulnā lil-malāʾikati isjudū li-ādama fa-sajadū illā iblīsa aba

When We said to the angels, "Prostrate yourselves to Adam", they prostrated themselves, but not Iblis: he refused.

Sura al-Ḥajj 22:18

أَلَمْ تَرَ أَنَّ ٱللَّـهَ يَسْجُدُ لَهُۥ مَن فِى ٱلسَّمَٰوَٰتِ وَمَن فِى ٱلْأَرْضِ وَٱلشَّمْسُ وَٱلْقَمَرُ وَٱلنُّجُومُ وَٱلْجِبَالُ وَٱلشَّجَرُ وَٱلدَّوَآبُّ وَكَثِيرٌ مِّنَ ٱلنَّاسِ وَكَثِيرٌ حَقَّ عَلَيْهِ ٱلْعَذَابُ وَمَن يُهِنِ ٱللَّـهُ فَمَا لَهُۥ مِن مُّكْرِمٍ إِنَّ ٱللَّـهَ يَفْعَلُ مَا يَشَآءُ

a-lam tara annā allāha yasjudu lahu man fī l-samāwāti wa-man fī l-arḍi wa-l-shamsu wa-l-qamaru wa-l-nujūmu wa-l-jibālu wa-l-shajaru wa-l-dawābbu wa-kathīrun mina l-nāsi wa-kathīrun ḥaqqa ʿalayhi l-ʿadhābu wa-man yuhini allāhu fa-mā lahu min mukrimin inna allāha yafʿalu mā yashāʾu

Seest thou not that to Allah bow down in worship all things that are in the heavens and on earth,- the sun, the moon, the stars; the hills, the trees, the animals; and a great number among mankind? But a great number are (also) such as are fit for Punishment: and such as Allah shall disgrace,- None can raise to honour: for Allah carries out all that He wills.

Sura al-Ḥajj 22:77

يَٰٓأَيُّهَا ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوا۟ ٱرْكَعُوا۟ وَٱسْجُدُوا۟ وَٱعْبُدُوا۟ رَبَّكُمْ وَٱفْعَلُوا۟ ٱلْخَيْرَ لَعَلَّكُمْ تُفْلِحُونَ

yā-ayyuhā lladhīna āmanū irkaʿū wa-isjudū wa-iʿbudū rabbakum wa-ifʿalū l-khayra la-ʿallakum tufliḥūna

O ye who believe! bow down, prostrate yourselves, and adore your Lord; and do good; that ye may prosper.

Sura al-Furqān 25:60

وَإِذَا قِيلَ لَهُمُ ٱسْجُدُوا۟ لِلرَّحْمَٰنِ قَالُوا۟ وَمَا ٱلرَّحْمَٰنُ أَنَسْجُدُ لِمَا تَأْمُرُنَا وَزَادَهُمْ نُفُورًا

wa-idhā qīla lahumu isjudū lil-raḥmāni qālū wa-mā l-raḥmānu anasjudu li-mā taʾmurūna wa-zādahum nufūran

When it is said to them, "Prostrate to (Allah) Most Gracious!", they say, "And what is (Allah) Most Gracious? Shall we prostrate to that which thou commandest us?" And it increases their flight (from the Truth).

Sura al-Naml 27:24

وَجَدتُّهَا وَقَوْمَهَا يَسْجُدُونَ لِلشَّمْسِ مِن دُونِ ٱللَّـهِ وَزَيَّنَ لَهُمُ ٱلشَّيْطَٰنُ أَعْمَٰلَهُمْ فَصَدَّهُمْ عَنِ ٱلسَّبِيلِ فَهُمْ لَا يَهْتَدُونَ

wa-jadttuhā wa-qawmahā yasjudūna lil-shamsi min dūni allāhi wa-zayyana lahumu l-shayṭānu aʿmālahum fa-ṣaddahum ʿani l-sabīli fa-hum lā yahtadūna

"I found her and her people worshipping the sun besides Allah: Satan has made their deeds seem pleasing in their eyes, and has kept them away from the Path,- so they receive no guidance,-

Sura al-Naml 27:25

أَلَّا يَسْجُدُوا۟ لِلَّـهِ ٱلَّذِى يُخْرِجُ ٱلْخَبْءَ فِى ٱلسَّمَٰوَٰتِ وَٱلْأَرْضِ وَيَعْلَمُ مَا تُخْفُونَ وَمَا تُعْلِنُونَ

allā yasjudū lillāhi alladhī yukhriju l-khaba fī l-samāwāti wa-l-arḍi wa-yaʿlamu mā tukhfūna wa-mā tuʿlinūna

"(Kept them away from the Path), that they should not worship Allah, Who brings to light what is hidden in the heavens and the earth, and knows what ye hide and what ye reveal.

Sura Ṣād 38:73

فَسَجَدَ ٱلْمَلَٰٓئِكَةُ كُلُّهُمْ أَجْمَعُونَ

fa-sajada l-malāʾikatu kulluhum ajmaʿūna

So the angels prostrated themselves, all of them together:

Sura Ṣād 38:75

قَالَ يَٰٓإِبْلِيسُ مَا مَنَعَكَ أَن تَسْجُدَ لِمَا خَلَقْتُ بِيَدَىَّ أَسْتَكْبَرْتَ أَمْ كُنتَ مِنَ ٱلْعَالِينَ

qalā yā-iblīsu mā manaʿaka an tasjuda li-mā khalaqtu bi-yadayya astakbarta am kunta mina l-ʿālīna

(Allah) said: "O Iblis! What prevents thee from prostrating thyself to one whom I have created with my hands? Art thou haughty? Or art thou one of the high (and mighty) ones?"

Sura Fuṣṣilat 41:37

وَمِنْ ءَايَٰتِهِ ٱلَّيْلُ وَٱلنَّهَارُ وَٱلشَّمْسُ وَٱلْقَمَرُ لَا تَسْجُدُوا۟ لِلشَّمْسِ وَلَا لِلْقَمَرِ وَٱسْجُدُوا۟ لِلَّـهِ ٱلَّذِى خَلَقَهُنَّ إِن كُنتُمْ إِيَّاهُ تَعْبُدُونَ

wa-min āyātihi l-laylu wa-l-nahāru wa-l-shamsu wa-l-qamaru lā tasjudū lil-shamsi wa-lā lil-qamari wa-isjudū lillāhi alladhī khalaqahunna in kuntum iyyāhu taʿbudūna

Among His Signs are the Night and the Day, and the Sun and the Moon. Do not prostrate to the sun and the moon, but prostrate to Allah, Who created them, if it is Him ye wish to serve.

Sura al-Najm 53:62

فَٱسْجُدُوا۟ لِلَّـهِ وَٱعْبُدُوا۟

fasjudū lillāhi wa-iʿbudū

But fall ye down in prostration to Allah, and adore (Him)!

Sura al-Raḥmān 55:6

وَٱلنَّجْمُ وَٱلشَّجَرُ يَسْجُدَانِ

wa-l-najmu wa-l-shajaru yasjudāni

And the herbs and the trees - both (alike) prostrate in adoration.

Sura al-Insān 76:26

وَمِنَ ٱلَّيْلِ فَٱسْجُدْ لَهُۥ وَسَبِّحْهُ لَيْلًا طَوِيلًا

wa-mina l-layli fa-isjud lahu wa-sabbiḥhu laylan ṭawīlan

And part of the night, prostrate thyself to Him; and glorify Him a long night through.

Sura al-Inshiqāq 84:21

وَإِذَا قُرِئَ عَلَيْهِمُ ٱلْقُرْءَانُ لَا يَسْجُدُونَ

wa-idhā quriʾa ʿalayhimu l-qurʾānu lā yasjudūna

And when the Qur'an is read to them, they fall not prostrate,

Sura al-ʿAlaq 96:19

كَلَّا لَا تُطِعْهُ وَٱسْجُدْ وَٱقْتَرِب

kallā lā tuṭiʿhu wa-isjud wa-iqtarib

Day, heed him not: But bow down in adoration, and bring thyself the closer (to Allah)!
