Sura al-Baqara 2:75

أَفَتَطْمَعُونَ أَن يُؤْمِنُوا۟ لَكُمْ وَقَدْ كَانَ فَرِيقٌ مِّنْهُمْ يَسْمَعُونَ كَلَٰمَ ٱللَّـهِ ثُمَّ يُحَرِّفُونَهُۥ مِنۢ بَعْدِ مَا عَقَلُوهُ وَهُمْ يَعْلَمُونَ

afataṭmaʿūna an yuʾminū la-kum wa-qad kāna farīqun minhum yasmaʿūna kalāma allāhi thumma yuḥarrifūnahu min baʿdi mā ʿaqalūhu wa-hum yaʿlamūna

Can ye (o ye men of Faith) entertain the hope that they will believe in you?- Seeing that a party of them heard the Word of Allah, and perverted it knowingly after they understood it.

Sura al-Baqara 2:171

وَمَثَلُ ٱلَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا۟ كَمَثَلِ ٱلَّذِى يَنْعِقُ بِمَا لَا يَسْمَعُ إِلَّا دُعَآءً وَنِدَآءً صُمٌّۢ بُكْمٌ عُمْىٌ فَهُمْ لَا يَعْقِلُونَ

wa-mathalu lladhīna kafarū ka-mathali alladhī yanʿiqu bi-mā lā yasmaʿu illā duʿāʾan wa-nidāʾan ṣummun bukmun ʿumun fa-hum lā yaʿqilūna

The parable of those who reject Faith is as if one were to shout Like a goat-herd, to things that listen to nothing but calls and cries: Deaf, dumb, and blind, they are void of wisdom.

Sura al-Baqara 2:181

فَمَنۢ بَدَّلَهُۥ بَعْدَمَا سَمِعَهُۥ فَإِنَّمَآ إِثْمُهُۥ عَلَى ٱلَّذِينَ يُبَدِّلُونَهُۥٓ إِنَّ ٱللَّـهَ سَمِيعٌ عَلِيمٌ

fa-man baddalahu baʿdamā samiʿahu fa-innamā ithmuhu ʿalā lladhīna yubaddilūnahu inna allāha samīʿun ʿalīmun

If anyone changes the bequest after hearing it, the guilt shall be on those who make the change. For Allah hears and knows (All things).

Sura Āl-ʿImrān 3:181

لَّقَدْ سَمِعَ ٱللَّـهُ قَوْلَ ٱلَّذِينَ قَالُوٓا۟ إِنَّ ٱللَّـهَ فَقِيرٌ وَنَحْنُ أَغْنِيَآءُ سَنَكْتُبُ مَا قَالُوا۟ وَقَتْلَهُمُ ٱلْأَنۢبِيَآءَ بِغَيْرِ حَقٍّ وَنَقُولُ ذُوقُوا۟ عَذَابَ ٱلْحَرِيقِ

llaqad samiʿa allāhu qawla lladhīna qālū inna allāha faqīrun wa-naḥnu aghniyāʾu sa-naktubu mā qālū wa-qatlahumu l-anbiyāʾa bi-ghayri ḥaqqin wa-naqūlu dhūqū ʿadhāba l-ḥarīqi

Allah hath heard the taunt of those who say: "Truly, Allah is indigent and we are rich!"- We shall certainly record their word and (their act) of slaying the prophets in defiance of right, and We shall say: "Taste ye the penalty of the Scorching Fire!

Sura al-Māʾidah 5:83

وَإِذَا سَمِعُوا۟ مَآ أُنزِلَ إِلَى ٱلرَّسُولِ تَرَىٰٓ أَعْيُنَهُمْ تَفِيضُ مِنَ ٱلدَّمْعِ مِمَّا عَرَفُوا۟ مِنَ ٱلْحَقِّ يَقُولُونَ رَبَّنَآ ءَامَنَّا فَٱكْتُبْنَا مَعَ ٱلشَّٰهِدِينَ

wa-idhā samiʿū mā unzila ilā l-rasūli tara aʿyunahum tafīḍu mina l-damʿi mimmā ʿarafū mina l-ḥaqqi yaqūlūna rabbanā āmannā fa-iktubnā maʿa l-shāhidīna

And when they listen to the revelation received by the Messenger, thou wilt see their eyes overflowing with tears, for they recognise the truth: they pray: "Our Lord! we believe; write us down among the witnesses.

Sura al-Anʿām 6:25

وَمِنْهُم مَّن يَسْتَمِعُ إِلَيْكَ وَجَعَلْنَا عَلَىٰ قُلُوبِهِمْ أَكِنَّةً أَن يَفْقَهُوهُ وَفِىٓ ءَاذَانِهِمْ وَقْرًا وَإِن يَرَوْا۟ كُلَّ ءَايَةٍ لَّا يُؤْمِنُوا۟ بِهَا حَتَّىٰٓ إِذَا جَآءُوكَ يُجَٰدِلُونَكَ يَقُولُ ٱلَّذِينَ كَفَرُوٓا۟ إِنْ هَٰذَآ إِلَّآ أَسَٰطِيرُ ٱلْأَوَّلِينَ

wa-minhum man yastamiʿu ilayka wa-jaʿalnā ʿalā qulūbihim akinnatan an yafqahūhu wa-fī ādhānihim waqran wa-in yaraw kulla āyatin lā yuʾminū bihā ḥatta idhā jāʾūka yujādilūnaka yaqūlu lladhīna kafarū in hādhā illā asāṭīru l-awwalīna

Of them there are some who (pretend to) listen to thee; but We have thrown veils on their hearts, So they understand it not, and deafness in their ears; if they saw every one of the signs, not they will believe in them; in so much that when they come to thee, they (but) dispute with thee; the Unbelievers say: "These are nothing but tales of the ancients."

Sura al-Anʿām 6:36

إِنَّمَا يَسْتَجِيبُ ٱلَّذِينَ يَسْمَعُونَ وَٱلْمَوْتَىٰ يَبْعَثُهُمُ ٱللَّـهُ ثُمَّ إِلَيْهِ يُرْجَعُونَ

innamā yastajību lladhīna yasmaʿūna wa-l-mawtā yabʿathuhumu allāhu thumma ilayhi yurjaʿūna

Those who listen (in truth), be sure, will accept: as to the dead, Allah will raise them up; then will they be turned unto Him.

Sura al-Aʿrāf 7:100

أَوَلَمْ يَهْدِ لِلَّذِينَ يَرِثُونَ ٱلْأَرْضَ مِنۢ بَعْدِ أَهْلِهَآ أَن لَّوْ نَشَآءُ أَصَبْنَٰهُم بِذُنُوبِهِمْ وَنَطْبَعُ عَلَىٰ قُلُوبِهِمْ فَهُمْ لَا يَسْمَعُونَ

a-wa-lam yahdi li-lladhīna yarithūna l-arḍa min baʿdi ahlihā an law nashāʾu aṣabnāhum bi-dhunūbihim wa-naṭbaʿu ʿalā qulūbihim fa-hum lā yasmaʿūna

To those who inherit the earth in succession to its (previous) possessors, is it not a guiding, (lesson) that, if We so willed, We could punish them (too) for their sins, and seal up their hearts so that they could not hear?

Sura al-Aʿrāf 7:179

وَلَقَدْ ذَرَأْنَا لِجَهَنَّمَ كَثِيرًا مِّنَ ٱلْجِنِّ وَٱلْإِنسِ لَهُمْ قُلُوبٌ لَّا يَفْقَهُونَ بِهَا وَلَهُمْ أَعْيُنٌ لَّا يُبْصِرُونَ بِهَا وَلَهُمْ ءَاذَانٌ لَّا يَسْمَعُونَ بِهَآ أُو۟لَٰٓئِكَ كَٱلْأَنْعَٰمِ بَلْ هُمْ أَضَلُّ أُو۟لَٰٓئِكَ هُمُ ٱلْغَٰفِلُونَ

wa-la-qad dharanā li-jahannama kathīran mina l-jinni wa-l-insi lahum qulūbun lā yafqahūna bihā wa-lahum aʿyunun lā yubṣirūna bihā wa-lahum ādhānun lā yasmaʿūna bihā ulāʾika ka-l-anʿāmi bal hum aḍallu ulāʾika humu l-ghāfilūna

Many are the Jinns and men we have made for Hell: They have hearts wherewith they understand not, eyes wherewith they see not, and ears wherewith they hear not. They are like cattle,- nay more misguided: for they are heedless (of warning).

Sura al-Aʿrāf 7:195

أَلَهُمْ أَرْجُلٌ يَمْشُونَ بِهَآ أَمْ لَهُمْ أَيْدٍ يَبْطِشُونَ بِهَآ أَمْ لَهُمْ أَعْيُنٌ يُبْصِرُونَ بِهَآ أَمْ لَهُمْ ءَاذَانٌ يَسْمَعُونَ بِهَا قُلِ ٱدْعُوا۟ شُرَكَآءَكُمْ ثُمَّ كِيدُونِ فَلَا تُنظِرُونِ

alahum arjulun yamshūna bihā am lahum aydin yabṭishūna bihā am lahum aʿyunun yubṣirūna bihā am lahum ādhānun yasmaʿūna bihā quli idʿū shurakāʾakum thumma kīdūni fa-lā tunẓirūni

Have they feet to walk with? Or hands to lay hold with? Or eyes to see with? Or ears to hear with? Say: "Call your 'god-partners', scheme (your worst) against me, and give me no respite!

Sura al-Aʿrāf 7:198

وَإِن تَدْعُوهُمْ إِلَى ٱلْهُدَىٰ لَا يَسْمَعُوا۟ وَتَرَىٰهُمْ يَنظُرُونَ إِلَيْكَ وَهُمْ لَا يُبْصِرُونَ

wa-in tadʿūhum ilā l-hudā lā yasmaʿū wa-tarāhum yanẓurūna ilayka wa-hum lā yubṣirūna

If thou callest them to guidance, they hear not. Thou wilt see them looking at thee, but they see not.

Sura al-Anfāl 8:21

وَلَا تَكُونُوا۟ كَٱلَّذِينَ قَالُوا۟ سَمِعْنَا وَهُمْ لَا يَسْمَعُونَ

wa-lā takūnū kalladhīna qālū samiʿnā wa-hum lā yasmaʿūna

Nor be like those who say, "We hear," but listen not:

Sura al-Anfāl 8:23

وَلَوْ عَلِمَ ٱللَّـهُ فِيهِمْ خَيْرًا لَّأَسْمَعَهُمْ وَلَوْ أَسْمَعَهُمْ لَتَوَلَّوا۟ وَّهُم مُّعْرِضُونَ

wa-law ʿalima allāhu fīhim khayran llaasmaʿahum wa-law asmaʿahum latawallaw wwahum muʿriḍūna

If Allah had found in them any good. He would indeed have made them listen: (As it is), if He had made them listen, they would but have turned back and declined (Faith).

Sura al-Tawbah 9:6

وَإِنْ أَحَدٌ مِّنَ ٱلْمُشْرِكِينَ ٱسْتَجَارَكَ فَأَجِرْهُ حَتَّىٰ يَسْمَعَ كَلَٰمَ ٱللَّـهِ ثُمَّ أَبْلِغْهُ مَأْمَنَهُۥ ذَٰلِكَ بِأَنَّهُمْ قَوْمٌ لَّا يَعْلَمُونَ

wa-in aḥadun mina l-mushrikīna istajāraka faajirhu ḥattā yasmaʿa kalāma allāhi thumma ablighhu mamanahu dhālika bi-annahum qawmun lā yaʿlamūna

If one amongst the Pagans ask thee for asylum, grant it to him, so that he may hear the word of Allah; and then escort him to where he can be secure. That is because they are men without knowledge.

Sura Yūnus 10:42

وَمِنْهُم مَّن يَسْتَمِعُونَ إِلَيْكَ أَفَأَنتَ تُسْمِعُ ٱلصُّمَّ وَلَوْ كَانُوا۟ لَا يَعْقِلُونَ

wa-minhum man yastamiʿūna ilayka a-fa-anta tusmiʿu l-ṣumma wa-law kānū lā yaʿqilūna

Among them are some who (pretend to) listen to thee: But canst thou make the deaf to hear,- even though they are without understanding?

Sura Yūnus 10:67

هُوَ ٱلَّذِى جَعَلَ لَكُمُ ٱلَّيْلَ لِتَسْكُنُوا۟ فِيهِ وَٱلنَّهَارَ مُبْصِرًا إِنَّ فِى ذَٰلِكَ لَءَايَٰتٍ لِّقَوْمٍ يَسْمَعُونَ

huwa alladhī jaʿala lakumu l-layla li-taskunū fīhi wa-l-nahāra mubṣiran inna fī dhālika la-āyātin li-qawmin yasmaʿūna

He it is That hath made you the night that ye may rest therein, and the day to make things visible (to you). Verily in this are signs for those who listen (to His Message).

Sura Yūsuf 12:31

فَلَمَّا سَمِعَتْ بِمَكْرِهِنَّ أَرْسَلَتْ إِلَيْهِنَّ وَأَعْتَدَتْ لَهُنَّ مُتَّكَـًٔا وَءَاتَتْ كُلَّ وَٰحِدَةٍ مِّنْهُنَّ سِكِّينًا وَقَالَتِ ٱخْرُجْ عَلَيْهِنَّ فَلَمَّا رَأَيْنَهُۥٓ أَكْبَرْنَهُۥ وَقَطَّعْنَ أَيْدِيَهُنَّ وَقُلْنَ حَٰشَ لِلَّـهِ مَا هَٰذَا بَشَرًا إِنْ هَٰذَآ إِلَّا مَلَكٌ كَرِيمٌ

fa-lammā samiʿat bimakrihinna arsalat ilayhinna wa-aʿtadat la-hunna muttakaʾan wa-ātat kulla wāḥidatin minhunna sikkīnan wa-qālati ikhruj ʿalayhinna fa-lammā raaynahu akbarnahu wa-qaṭṭaʿna aydiyahunna wa-qulna ḥāsha lillāhi mā hādhā basharan in hādhā illā malakun karīmun

When she heard of their malicious talk, she sent for them and prepared a banquet for them: she gave each of them a knife: and she said (to Joseph), "Come out before them." When they saw him, they did extol him, and (in their amazement) cut their hands: they said, "Allah preserve us! no mortal is this! this is none other than a noble angel!"

Sura al-Naḥl 16:65

وَٱللَّـهُ أَنزَلَ مِنَ ٱلسَّمَآءِ مَآءً فَأَحْيَا بِهِ ٱلْأَرْضَ بَعْدَ مَوْتِهَآ إِنَّ فِى ذَٰلِكَ لَءَايَةً لِّقَوْمٍ يَسْمَعُونَ

wallāhu anzala mina l-samāʾi māʾan faaḥyā bihi l-arḍa baʿda mawtihā inna fī dhālika la-āyatan li-qawmin yasmaʿūna

And Allah sends down rain from the skies, and gives therewith life to the earth after its death: verily in this is a Sign for those who listen.

Sura al-Isrāʾ 17:47

نَّحْنُ أَعْلَمُ بِمَا يَسْتَمِعُونَ بِهِۦٓ إِذْ يَسْتَمِعُونَ إِلَيْكَ وَإِذْ هُمْ نَجْوَىٰٓ إِذْ يَقُولُ ٱلظَّٰلِمُونَ إِن تَتَّبِعُونَ إِلَّا رَجُلًا مَّسْحُورًا

nnaḥnu aʿlamu bi-mā yastamiʿūna bihi idh yastamiʿūna ilayka wa-idh hum najwa idh yaqūlu l-ẓālimūna in tattabiʿūna illā rajulan masḥūran

We know best why it is they listen, when they listen to thee; and when they meet in private conference, behold, the wicked say, "Ye follow none other than a man bewitched!"

Sura Maryam 19:42

إِذْ قَالَ لِأَبِيهِ يَٰٓأَبَتِ لِمَ تَعْبُدُ مَا لَا يَسْمَعُ وَلَا يُبْصِرُ وَلَا يُغْنِى عَنكَ شَيْـًٔا

idh qalā li-abīhi yā-abati lima taʿbudu mā lā yasmaʿu wa-lā yubṣiru wa-lā yughnī ʿanka shayʾan

Behold, he said to his father: "O my father! why worship that which heareth not and seeth not, and can profit thee nothing?

Sura Maryam 19:62

لَّا يَسْمَعُونَ فِيهَا لَغْوًا إِلَّا سَلَٰمًا وَلَهُمْ رِزْقُهُمْ فِيهَا بُكْرَةً وَعَشِيًّا

lā yasmaʿūna fīhā laghwan illā salāman wa-lahum rizquhum fīhā bukratan wa-ʿashiyyan

They will not there hear any vain discourse, but only salutations of Peace: And they will have therein their sustenance, morning and evening.

Sura al-Anbiyāʾ 21:2

مَا يَأْتِيهِم مِّن ذِكْرٍ مِّن رَّبِّهِم مُّحْدَثٍ إِلَّا ٱسْتَمَعُوهُ وَهُمْ يَلْعَبُونَ

mā yaʾtīhim min dhikrin min rrabbihim muḥdathin illā istamaʿūhu wa-hum yalʿabūna

Never comes (aught) to them of a renewed Message from their Lord, but they listen to it as in jest,-

Sura al-Anbiyāʾ 21:45

قُلْ إِنَّمَآ أُنذِرُكُم بِٱلْوَحْىِ وَلَا يَسْمَعُ ٱلصُّمُّ ٱلدُّعَآءَ إِذَا مَا يُنذَرُونَ

qul innamā undhirukum bil-waḥyi wa-lā yasmaʿu l-ṣummu l-duʿāʾa idhā mā yundharūna

Say, "I do but warn you according to revelation": But the deaf will not hear the call, (even) when they are warned!

Sura al-Anbiyāʾ 21:100

لَهُمْ فِيهَا زَفِيرٌ وَهُمْ فِيهَا لَا يَسْمَعُونَ

lahum fīhā zafīrun wa-hum fīhā lā yasmaʿūna

There, sobbing will be their lot, nor will they there hear (aught else).

Sura al-Anbiyāʾ 21:102

لَا يَسْمَعُونَ حَسِيسَهَا وَهُمْ فِى مَا ٱشْتَهَتْ أَنفُسُهُمْ خَٰلِدُونَ

lā yasmaʿūna ḥasīsahā wa-hum fī mā ishtahat anfusuhum khālidūna

Not the slightest sound will they hear of Hell: what their souls desired, in that will they dwell.

Sura al-Ḥajj 22:46

أَفَلَمْ يَسِيرُوا۟ فِى ٱلْأَرْضِ فَتَكُونَ لَهُمْ قُلُوبٌ يَعْقِلُونَ بِهَآ أَوْ ءَاذَانٌ يَسْمَعُونَ بِهَا فَإِنَّهَا لَا تَعْمَى ٱلْأَبْصَٰرُ وَلَٰكِن تَعْمَى ٱلْقُلُوبُ ٱلَّتِى فِى ٱلصُّدُورِ

a-fa-lam yasīrū fī l-arḍi fa-takūna lahum qulūbun yaʿqilūna bihā aw ādhānun yasmaʿūna bihā fainnahā lā taʿma l-abṣāru wa-lākin taʿma l-qulūbu allatī fī l-ṣudūri

Do they not travel through the land, so that their hearts (and minds) may thus learn wisdom and their ears may thus learn to hear? Truly it is not their eyes that are blind, but their hearts which are in their breasts.

Sura al-Furqān 25:12

إِذَا رَأَتْهُم مِّن مَّكَانٍۭ بَعِيدٍ سَمِعُوا۟ لَهَا تَغَيُّظًا وَزَفِيرًا

idhā raʾathum min makānin baʿīdin samiʿū lahā taghayyuẓan wa-zafīran

When it sees them from a place fAr off, they will hear its fury and its ranging sigh.

Sura al-Furqān 25:44

أَمْ تَحْسَبُ أَنَّ أَكْثَرَهُمْ يَسْمَعُونَ أَوْ يَعْقِلُونَ إِنْ هُمْ إِلَّا كَٱلْأَنْعَٰمِ بَلْ هُمْ أَضَلُّ سَبِيلًا

am taḥsabu annā aktharahum yasmaʿūna aw yaʿqilūna in hum illā ka-l-anʿāmi bal hum aḍallu sabīlan

Or thinkest thou that most of them listen or understand? They are only like cattle;- nay, they are worse astray in Path.

Sura al-Shuʿarā 26:72

قَالَ هَلْ يَسْمَعُونَكُمْ إِذْ تَدْعُونَ

qalā hal yasmaʿūnakum idh tadʿūna

He said: "Do they listen to you when ye call (on them)?"

Sura al-Naml 27:80

إِنَّكَ لَا تُسْمِعُ ٱلْمَوْتَىٰ وَلَا تُسْمِعُ ٱلصُّمَّ ٱلدُّعَآءَ إِذَا وَلَّوْا۟ مُدْبِرِينَ

innaka lā tusmiʿu l-mawtā wa-lā tusmiʿu l-ṣumma l-duʿāʾa idhā wallaw mudbirīna

Truly thou canst not cause the dead to listen, nor canst thou cause the deaf to hear the call, (especially) when they turn back in retreat.

Sura al-Qaṣaṣ 28:55

وَإِذَا سَمِعُوا۟ ٱللَّغْوَ أَعْرَضُوا۟ عَنْهُ وَقَالُوا۟ لَنَآ أَعْمَٰلُنَا وَلَكُمْ أَعْمَٰلُكُمْ سَلَٰمٌ عَلَيْكُمْ لَا نَبْتَغِى ٱلْجَٰهِلِينَ

wa-idhā samiʿū l-laghwa aʿraḍū ʿanhu wa-qālū lanā aʿmālunā wa-lakum aʿmālukum salāmun ʿalaykum lā nabtaghī l-jāhilīna

And when they hear vain talk, they turn away therefrom and say: "To us our deeds, and to you yours; peace be to you: we seek not the ignorant."

Sura al-Rūm 30:23

وَمِنْ ءَايَٰتِهِۦ مَنَامُكُم بِٱلَّيْلِ وَٱلنَّهَارِ وَٱبْتِغَآؤُكُم مِّن فَضْلِهِۦٓ إِنَّ فِى ذَٰلِكَ لَءَايَٰتٍ لِّقَوْمٍ يَسْمَعُونَ

wa-min āyātihi manāmukum bil-layli wa-l-nahāri wa-ibtighāʾukum min faḍlihi inna fī dhālika la-āyātin li-qawmin yasmaʿūna

And among His Signs is the sleep that ye take by night and by day, and the quest that ye (make for livelihood) out of His Bounty: verily in that are signs for those who hearken.

Sura Luqmān 31:7

وَإِذَا تُتْلَىٰ عَلَيْهِ ءَايَٰتُنَا وَلَّىٰ مُسْتَكْبِرًا كَأَن لَّمْ يَسْمَعْهَا كَأَنَّ فِىٓ أُذُنَيْهِ وَقْرًا فَبَشِّرْهُ بِعَذَابٍ أَلِيمٍ

wa-idhā tutlā ʿalayhi āyātunā walla mustakbiran ka-an lam yasmaʿhā ka-anna fī udhunayhi waqran fa-bashshirhu bi-ʿadhābin alīmin

When Our Signs are rehearsed to such a one, he turns away in arrogance, as if he heard them not, as if there were deafness in both his ears: announce to him a grievous Penalty.

Sura al-Sajdah 32:26

أَوَلَمْ يَهْدِ لَهُمْ كَمْ أَهْلَكْنَا مِن قَبْلِهِم مِّنَ ٱلْقُرُونِ يَمْشُونَ فِى مَسَٰكِنِهِمْ إِنَّ فِى ذَٰلِكَ لَءَايَٰتٍ أَفَلَا يَسْمَعُونَ

a-wa-lam yahdi lahum kam ahlaknā min qablihim mina l-qurūni yamshūna fī masākinihim inna fī dhālika la-āyātin a-fa-lā yasmaʿūna

Does it not teach them a lesson, how many generations We destroyed before them, in whose dwellings they (now) go to and fro? Verily in that are Signs: Do they not then listen?

Sura al-Faṭīr 35:14

إِن تَدْعُوهُمْ لَا يَسْمَعُوا۟ دُعَآءَكُمْ وَلَوْ سَمِعُوا۟ مَا ٱسْتَجَابُوا۟ لَكُمْ وَيَوْمَ ٱلْقِيَٰمَةِ يَكْفُرُونَ بِشِرْكِكُمْ وَلَا يُنَبِّئُكَ مِثْلُ خَبِيرٍ

in tadʿūhum lā yasmaʿū duʿāʾakum wa-law samiʿū mā istajābū la-kum wa-yawma l-qiyāmati yakfurūna bi-shirkikum wa-lā yunabbiʾuka mithlu khabīrin

If ye invoke them, they will not listen to your call, and if they were to listen, they cannot answer your (prayer). On the Day of Judgment they will reject your "Partnership". and none, (O man!) can tell thee (the Truth) like the One Who is acquainted with all things.

Sura al-Faṭīr 35:22

وَمَا يَسْتَوِى ٱلْأَحْيَآءُ وَلَا ٱلْأَمْوَٰتُ إِنَّ ٱللَّـهَ يُسْمِعُ مَن يَشَآءُ وَمَآ أَنتَ بِمُسْمِعٍ مَّن فِى ٱلْقُبُورِ

wa-mā yastawī l-aḥyāʾu wa-lā l-amwātu inna allāha yusmiʿu man yashāʾu wa-mā anta bi-musmiʿin man fī l-qubūri

Nor are alike those that are living and those that are dead. Allah can make any that He wills to hear; but thou canst not make those to hear who are (buried) in graves.

Sura al-Ṣaffāt 37:8

لَّا يَسَّمَّعُونَ إِلَى ٱلْمَلَإِ ٱلْأَعْلَىٰ وَيُقْذَفُونَ مِن كُلِّ جَانِبٍ

lā yassammaʿūna ilā l-malāʾi l-aʿlā wa-yuqdhafūna min kulli jānibin

(So) they should not strain their ears in the direction of the Exalted Assembly but be cast away from every side,

Sura al-Zumar 39:18

ٱلَّذِينَ يَسْتَمِعُونَ ٱلْقَوْلَ فَيَتَّبِعُونَ أَحْسَنَهُۥٓ أُو۟لَٰٓئِكَ ٱلَّذِينَ هَدَىٰهُمُ ٱللَّـهُ وَأُو۟لَٰٓئِكَ هُمْ أُو۟لُوا۟ ٱلْأَلْبَٰبِ

lladhīna yastamiʿūna l-qawla fa-yattabiʿūna aḥsanahu ulāʾika lladhīna hadāhumu allāhu wa-ūlāʾika hum ūlū l-albābi

Those who listen to the Word, and follow the best (meaning) in it: those are the ones whom Allah has guided, and those are the ones endued with understanding.

Sura Fuṣṣilat 41:4

بَشِيرًا وَنَذِيرًا فَأَعْرَضَ أَكْثَرُهُمْ فَهُمْ لَا يَسْمَعُونَ

bashīran wa-nadhīran fa-aʿraḍa aktharuhum fa-hum lā yasmaʿūna

Giving good news and admonition: yet most of them turn away, and so they hear not.

Sura al-Jāthiyah 45:8

يَسْمَعُ ءَايَٰتِ ٱللَّـهِ تُتْلَىٰ عَلَيْهِ ثُمَّ يُصِرُّ مُسْتَكْبِرًا كَأَن لَّمْ يَسْمَعْهَا فَبَشِّرْهُ بِعَذَابٍ أَلِيمٍ

yasmaʿu āyāti allāhi tutlā ʿalayhi thumma yuṣirru mustakbiran ka-an lam yasmaʿhā fa-bashshirhu bi-ʿadhābin alīmin

He hears the Signs of Allah rehearsed to him, yet is obstinate and lofty, as if he had not heard them: then announce to him a Penalty Grievous!

Sura al-Aḥqāf 46:29

وَإِذْ صَرَفْنَآ إِلَيْكَ نَفَرًا مِّنَ ٱلْجِنِّ يَسْتَمِعُونَ ٱلْقُرْءَانَ فَلَمَّا حَضَرُوهُ قَالُوٓا۟ أَنصِتُوا۟ فَلَمَّا قُضِىَ وَلَّوْا۟ إِلَىٰ قَوْمِهِم مُّنذِرِينَ

wa-idh ṣarafnā ilayka nafaran mina l-jinni yastamiʿūna l-qurʾāna fa-lammā ḥaḍarūhu qālū anṣitū fa-lammā quḍiya wallaw ilā qawmihim mundhirīna

Behold, We turned towards thee a company of Jinns (quietly) listening to the Qur'an: when they stood in the presence thereof, they said, "Listen in silence!" When the (reading) was finished, they returned to their people, to warn (them of their sins).

Sura Muḥammad 47:16

وَمِنْهُم مَّن يَسْتَمِعُ إِلَيْكَ حَتَّىٰٓ إِذَا خَرَجُوا۟ مِنْ عِندِكَ قَالُوا۟ لِلَّذِينَ أُوتُوا۟ ٱلْعِلْمَ مَاذَا قَالَ ءَانِفًا أُو۟لَٰٓئِكَ ٱلَّذِينَ طَبَعَ ٱللَّـهُ عَلَىٰ قُلُوبِهِمْ وَٱتَّبَعُوٓا۟ أَهْوَآءَهُمْ

wa-minhum man yastamiʿu ilayka ḥatta idhā kharajū min ʿindika qālū li-lladhīna ūtū l-ʿilma mādhā qalā ānifan ulāʾika lladhīna ṭabaʿa allāhu ʿalā qulūbihim wa-ittabaʿū ahwāʾahum

And among them are men who listen to thee, but in the end, when they go out from thee, they say to those who have received Knowledge, "What is it he said just then?" Such are men whose hearts Allah has sealed, and who follow their own lusts.

Sura Qāf 50:42

يَوْمَ يَسْمَعُونَ ٱلصَّيْحَةَ بِٱلْحَقِّ ذَٰلِكَ يَوْمُ ٱلْخُرُوجِ

yawma yasmaʿūna l-ṣayḥata bil-ḥaqqi dhālika yawmu l-khurūji

The Day when they will hear a (mighty) Blast in (very) truth: that will be the Day of Resurrection.

Sura al-Ṭūr 52:38

أَمْ لَهُمْ سُلَّمٌ يَسْتَمِعُونَ فِيهِ فَلْيَأْتِ مُسْتَمِعُهُم بِسُلْطَٰنٍ مُّبِينٍ

am lahum sullamun yastamiʿūna fīhi fa-l-yaʾti mustamiʿuhum bi-sulṭānin mubīnin

Or have they a ladder, by which they can (climb up to heaven and) listen (to its secrets)? Then let (such a) listener of theirs produce a manifest proof.

Sura al-Wāqiʿah 56:25

لَا يَسْمَعُونَ فِيهَا لَغْوًا وَلَا تَأْثِيمًا

lā yasmaʿūna fīhā laghwan wa-lā taʾthīman

Not frivolity will they hear therein, nor any taint of ill,-

Sura al-Mujādilah 58:1

قَدْ سَمِعَ ٱللَّـهُ قَوْلَ ٱلَّتِى تُجَٰدِلُكَ فِى زَوْجِهَا وَتَشْتَكِىٓ إِلَى ٱللَّـهِ وَٱللَّـهُ يَسْمَعُ تَحَاوُرَكُمَآ إِنَّ ٱللَّـهَ سَمِيعٌۢ بَصِيرٌ

qad samiʿa allāhu qawla allatī tujādiluka fī zawjihā wa-tashtakī ilā allāhi wallāhu yasmaʿu taḥāwurakumā inna allāha samīʿun baṣīrun

Allah has indeed heard (and accepted) the statement of the woman who pleads with thee concerning her husband and carries her complaint (in prayer) to Allah: and Allah (always) hears the arguments between both sides among you: for Allah hears and sees (all things).

Sura al-Mulk 67:7

إِذَآ أُلْقُوا۟ فِيهَا سَمِعُوا۟ لَهَا شَهِيقًا وَهِىَ تَفُورُ

idhā ulqū fīhā samiʿū lahā shahīqan wahiya tafūru

When they are cast therein, they will hear the (terrible) drawing in of its breath even as it blazes forth,

Sura al-Qalam 68:51

وَإِن يَكَادُ ٱلَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا۟ لَيُزْلِقُونَكَ بِأَبْصَٰرِهِمْ لَمَّا سَمِعُوا۟ ٱلذِّكْرَ وَيَقُولُونَ إِنَّهُۥ لَمَجْنُونٌ

wa-in yakādu lladhīna kafarū la-yuzliqūnaka bi-abṣārihim lammā samiʿū l-dhikrā wa-yaqūlūna innahu la-majnūnun

And the Unbelievers would almost trip thee up with their eyes when they hear the Message; and they say: "Surely he is possessed!"

Sura al-Jinn 72:1

قُلْ أُوحِىَ إِلَىَّ أَنَّهُ ٱسْتَمَعَ نَفَرٌ مِّنَ ٱلْجِنِّ فَقَالُوٓا۟ إِنَّا سَمِعْنَا قُرْءَانًا عَجَبًا

qul ūḥiya ilayya annahu istamaʿa nafarun mina l-jinni fa-qālū innā samiʿnā qurʾānan ʿajaban

Say: It has been revealed to me that a company of Jinns listened (to the Qur'an). They said, 'We have really heard a wonderful Recital!

Sura al-Jinn 72:9

وَأَنَّا كُنَّا نَقْعُدُ مِنْهَا مَقَٰعِدَ لِلسَّمْعِ فَمَن يَسْتَمِعِ ٱلْأَنَ يَجِدْ لَهُۥ شِهَابًا رَّصَدًا

wa-annā kunnā naqʿudu minhā maqāʿida lil-samʿi fa-man yastamiʿi l-ana yajid lahu shihāban raṣadan

'We used, indeed, to sit there in (hidden) stations, to (steal) a hearing; but any who listen now will find a flaming fire watching him in ambush.
