وَمَثَلُ  ٱلَّذِينَ  كَفَرُوا۟  كَمَثَلِ  ٱلَّذِى  يَنْعِقُ  بِمَا  لَا  يَسْمَعُ  إِلَّا  دُعَآءً  وَنِدَآءً  صُمٌّۢ  بُكْمٌ  عُمْىٌ  فَهُمْ  لَا  يَعْقِلُونَ wa‑mathalu lladhīna kafarū ka‑mathali alladhī yanʿiqu bi‑mā yasmaʿu illā duʿāʾan wa‑nidāʾan ṣummun bukmun ʿumun fa‑hum yaʿqilūna
The parable of those who reject Faith is as if one were to shout Like a goat-herd, to things that listen to nothing but calls and cries: Deaf, dumb, and blind, they are void of wisdom.

فَمَنۢ  بَدَّلَهُۥ  بَعْدَمَا  سَمِعَهُۥ  فَإِنَّمَآ  إِثْمُهُۥ  عَلَى  ٱلَّذِينَ  يُبَدِّلُونَهُۥٓ  إِنَّ  ٱللَّـهَ  سَمِيعٌ  عَلِيمٌ fa‑man baddalahu baʿdamā samiʿahu fa‑innamā ithmuhu ʿalā lladhīna yubaddilūnahu inna allāha samīʿun ʿalīmun
If anyone changes the bequest after hearing it, the guilt shall be on those who make the change. For Allah hears and knows (All things).

لَّقَدْ  سَمِعَ  ٱللَّـهُ  قَوْلَ  ٱلَّذِينَ  قَالُوٓا۟  إِنَّ  ٱللَّـهَ  فَقِيرٌ  وَنَحْنُ  أَغْنِيَآءُ  سَنَكْتُبُ  مَا  قَالُوا۟  وَقَتْلَهُمُ  ٱلْأَنۢبِيَآءَ  بِغَيْرِ  حَقٍّ  وَنَقُولُ  ذُوقُوا۟  عَذَابَ  ٱلْحَرِيقِ llaqad samiʿa allāhu qawla lladhīna qālū inna allāha faqīrun wa‑naḥnu aghniyāʾu sa‑naktubu qālū wa‑qatlahumu l‑anbiyāʾa bi‑ghayri ḥaqqin wa‑naqūlu dhūqū ʿadhāba l‑ḥarīqi
Allah hath heard the taunt of those who say: "Truly, Allah is indigent and we are rich!"- We shall certainly record their word and (their act) of slaying the prophets in defiance of right, and We shall say: "Taste ye the penalty of the Scorching Fire!

Surah 4 al-Nisāʾ (The Women)
(4:46)

مِّنَ  ٱلَّذِينَ  هَادُوا۟  يُحَرِّفُونَ  ٱلْكَلِمَ  عَن  مَّوَاضِعِهِۦ  وَيَقُولُونَ  سَمِعْنَا  وَعَصَيْنَا  وَٱسْمَعْ  غَيْرَ  مُسْمَعٍ  وَرَٰعِنَا  لَيًّۢا  بِأَلْسِنَتِهِمْ  وَطَعْنًا  فِى  ٱلدِّينِ  وَلَوْ  أَنَّهُمْ  قَالُوا۟  سَمِعْنَا  وَأَطَعْنَا  وَٱسْمَعْ  وَٱنظُرْنَا  لَكَانَ  خَيْرًا  لَّهُمْ  وَأَقْوَمَ  وَلَٰكِن  لَّعَنَهُمُ  ٱللَّـهُ  بِكُفْرِهِمْ  فَلَا  يُؤْمِنُونَ  إِلَّا  قَلِيلًا mina lladhīna hādū yuḥarrifūna l‑kalima ʿan mawāḍiʿihi wa‑yaqūlūna samiʿnā wa‑ʿaṣaynā wa‑ismaʿ ghayra musmaʿin wa‑rāʿinā layyan bi‑alsinatihim wa‑ṭaʿnan l‑dīni wa‑law annahum qālū samiʿnā wa‑aṭaʿnā wa‑ismaʿ wa‑anẓurnā la‑kāna khayran lahum wa‑aqwama wa‑lākin laʿanahumu allāhu bi‑kufrihim fa‑lā yuʾminūna illā qalīlan
Of the Jews there are those who displace words from their (right) places, and say: "We hear and we disobey"; and "Hear what is not Heard"; and "Ra'ina"; with a twist of their tongues and a slander to Faith. If only they had said: "We hear and we obey"; and "Do hear"; and "Do look at us"; it would have been better for them, and more proper; but Allah hath cursed them for their Unbelief; and but few of them will believe.

Surah 6 al-Anʿām (The Cattle)
(6:25)

وَمِنْهُم  مَّن  يَسْتَمِعُ  إِلَيْكَ  وَجَعَلْنَا  عَلَىٰ  قُلُوبِهِمْ  أَكِنَّةً  أَن  يَفْقَهُوهُ  وَفِىٓ  ءَاذَانِهِمْ  وَقْرًا  وَإِن  يَرَوْا۟  كُلَّ  ءَايَةٍ  لَّا  يُؤْمِنُوا۟  بِهَا  حَتَّىٰٓ  إِذَا  جَآءُوكَ  يُجَٰدِلُونَكَ  يَقُولُ  ٱلَّذِينَ  كَفَرُوٓا۟  إِنْ  هَٰذَآ  إِلَّآ  أَسَٰطِيرُ  ٱلْأَوَّلِينَ wa‑minhum man yastamiʿu ilayka wa‑jaʿalnā ʿalā qulūbihim akinnatan an yafqahūhu wa‑fī ādhānihim waqran wa‑in yaraw kulla āyatin yuʾminū bihā ḥatta idhā jāʾūka yujādilūnaka yaqūlu lladhīna kafarū in hādhā illā asāṭīru l‑awwalīna
Of them there are some who (pretend to) listen to thee; but We have thrown veils on their hearts, So they understand it not, and deafness in their ears; if they saw every one of the signs, not they will believe in them; in so much that when they come to thee, they (but) dispute with thee; the Unbelievers say: "These are nothing but tales of the ancients."

Surah 8 al-Anfāl (The Spoils of War)
(8:23)

If one amongst the Pagans ask thee for asylum, grant it to him, so that he may hear the word of Allah; and then escort him to where he can be secure. That is because they are men without knowledge.

(10:42)

وَمِنْهُم  مَّن  يَسْتَمِعُونَ  إِلَيْكَ  أَفَأَنتَ  تُسْمِعُ  ٱلصُّمَّ  وَلَوْ  كَانُوا۟  لَا  يَعْقِلُونَ wa‑minhum man yastamiʿūna ilayka a‑fa‑anta tusmiʿu l‑ṣumma wa‑law kānū yaʿqilūna
Among them are some who (pretend to) listen to thee: But canst thou make the deaf to hear,- even though they are without understanding?

فَلَمَّا  سَمِعَتْ  بِمَكْرِهِنَّ  أَرْسَلَتْ  إِلَيْهِنَّ  وَأَعْتَدَتْ  لَهُنَّ  مُتَّكَـًٔا  وَءَاتَتْ  كُلَّ  وَٰحِدَةٍ  مِّنْهُنَّ  سِكِّينًا  وَقَالَتِ  ٱخْرُجْ  عَلَيْهِنَّ  فَلَمَّا  رَأَيْنَهُۥٓ  أَكْبَرْنَهُۥ  وَقَطَّعْنَ  أَيْدِيَهُنَّ  وَقُلْنَ  حَٰشَ  لِلَّـهِ  مَا  هَٰذَا  بَشَرًا  إِنْ  هَٰذَآ  إِلَّا  مَلَكٌ  كَرِيمٌ fa‑lammā samiʿat bimakrihinna arsalat ilayhinna wa‑aʿtadat la‑hunna muttakaʾan wa‑ātat kulla wāḥidatin minhunna sikkīnan wa‑qālati ikhruj ʿalayhinna fa‑lammā raaynahu akbarnahu wa‑qaṭṭaʿna aydiyahunna wa‑qulna ḥāsha lillāhi hādhā basharan in hādhā illā malakun karīmun
When she heard of their malicious talk, she sent for them and prepared a banquet for them: she gave each of them a knife: and she said (to Joseph), "Come out before them." Surah 19 Maryam (Mary)
(19:38)

How plainly will they see and hear, the Day that they will appear before Us! but the unjust today are in error manifest!
(19:42)

إِذْ  قَالَ  لِأَبِيهِ  يَٰٓأَبَتِ  لِمَ  تَعْبُدُ  مَا  لَا  يَسْمَعُ  وَلَا  يُبْصِرُ  وَلَا  يُغْنِى  عَنكَ  شَيْـًٔا idh qalā li‑abīhi yā‑abati lima taʿbudu yasmaʿu wa‑lā yubṣiru wa‑lā yughnī ʿanka shayʾan
Behold, he said to his father: "O my father! why worship that which heareth not and seeth not, and can profit thee nothing?

"I have chosen thee: listen, then, to the inspiration (sent to thee).
(20:46)

He said: "Fear not: for I am with you: I hear and see (everything).
(20:108)

On that Day will they follow the Caller (straight): no crookedness (can they show) him: all sounds shall humble themselves in the Presence of (Allah) Most Gracious: nothing shalt thou hear but the tramp of their feet (as they march).

Surah 21 al-Anbiyāʾ (The Prophets)
(21:45)

قُلْ  إِنَّمَآ  أُنذِرُكُم  بِٱلْوَحْىِ  وَلَا  يَسْمَعُ  ٱلصُّمُّ  ٱلدُّعَآءَ  إِذَا  مَا  يُنذَرُونَ qul innamā undhirukum bil‑waḥyi wa‑lā yasmaʿu l‑ṣummu l‑duʿāʾa idhā yundharūna
Say, "I do but warn you according to revelation": But the deaf will not hear the call, (even) when they are warned!

Surah 27 al-Naml (The Ant)

إِنَّكَ  لَا  تُسْمِعُ  ٱلْمَوْتَىٰ  وَلَا  تُسْمِعُ  ٱلصُّمَّ  ٱلدُّعَآءَ  إِذَا  وَلَّوْا۟  مُدْبِرِينَ innaka tusmiʿu l‑mawtā wa‑lā tusmiʿu l‑ṣumma l‑duʿāʾa idhā wallaw mudbirīna
Truly thou canst not cause the dead to listen, nor canst thou cause the deaf to hear the call, (especially) when they turn back in retreat.
(27:81)

وَمَآ  أَنتَ  بِهَٰدِى  ٱلْعُمْىِ  عَن  ضَلَٰلَتِهِمْ  إِن  تُسْمِعُ  إِلَّا  مَن  يُؤْمِنُ  بِـَٔايَٰتِنَا  فَهُم  مُّسْلِمُونَ wa‑mā anta bi‑hādi l‑ʿumi ʿan ḍalālatihim in tusmiʿu illā man yuʾminū bi‑āyātinā fa‑hum muslimūna
Nor canst thou be a guide to the blind, (to prevent them) from straying: only those wilt thou get to listen who believe in Our Signs, and they will bow in Islam.

Surah 30 al-Rūm (The Romans)
(30:52)

فَإِنَّكَ  لَا  تُسْمِعُ  ٱلْمَوْتَىٰ  وَلَا  تُسْمِعُ  ٱلصُّمَّ  ٱلدُّعَآءَ  إِذَا  وَلَّوْا۟  مُدْبِرِينَ fa‑innaka tusmiʿu l‑mawtā wa‑lā tusmiʿu l‑ṣumma l‑duʿāʾa idhā wallaw mudbirīna
So verily thou canst not make the dead to hear, nor canst thou make the deaf to hear the call, when they show their backs and turn away.
(30:53)

وَمَآ  أَنتَ  بِهَٰدِ  ٱلْعُمْىِ  عَن  ضَلَٰلَتِهِمْ  إِن  تُسْمِعُ  إِلَّا  مَن  يُؤْمِنُ  بِـَٔايَٰتِنَا  فَهُم  مُّسْلِمُونَ wa‑mā anta bi‑hādi l‑ʿumi ʿan ḍalālatihim in tusmiʿu illā man yuʾminū bi‑āyātinā fa‑hum muslimūna
Nor canst thou lead back the blind from their straying: only those wilt thou make to hear, who believe in Our signs and submit (their wills in Islam).

Surah 31 Luqmān (Lukman)
(31:7)

وَإِذَا  تُتْلَىٰ  عَلَيْهِ  ءَايَٰتُنَا  وَلَّىٰ  مُسْتَكْبِرًا  كَأَن  لَّمْ  يَسْمَعْهَا  كَأَنَّ  فِىٓ  أُذُنَيْهِ  وَقْرًا  فَبَشِّرْهُ  بِعَذَابٍ  أَلِيمٍ wa‑idhā tutlā ʿalayhi āyātunā walla mustakbiran ka‑an lam yasmaʿhā ka‑anna udhunayhi waqran fa‑bashshirhu bi‑ʿadhābin alīmin
When Our Signs are rehearsed to such a one, he turns away in arrogance, as if he heard them not, as if there were deafness in both his ears: announce to him a grievous Penalty.

Surah 35 al-Faṭīr (The Creator)
(35:22)

وَمَا  يَسْتَوِى  ٱلْأَحْيَآءُ  وَلَا  ٱلْأَمْوَٰتُ  إِنَّ  ٱللَّـهَ  يُسْمِعُ  مَن  يَشَآءُ  وَمَآ  أَنتَ  بِمُسْمِعٍ  مَّن  فِى  ٱلْقُبُورِ wa‑mā yastawī l‑aḥyāʾu wa‑lā l‑amwātu inna allāha yusmiʿu man yashāʾu wa‑mā anta bi‑musmiʿin man l‑qubūri
Nor are alike those that are living and those that are dead. Allah can make any that He wills to hear; but thou canst not make those to hear who are (buried) in graves.

Surah 43 al-Zukhruf (The Embellishment)
(43:40)

أَفَأَنتَ  تُسْمِعُ  ٱلصُّمَّ  أَوْ  تَهْدِى  ٱلْعُمْىَ  وَمَن  كَانَ  فِى  ضَلَٰلٍ  مُّبِينٍ a‑fa‑anta tusmiʿu l‑ṣumma aw tahdī l‑ʿuma wa‑man kāna ḍalālin mubīnin
Canst thou then make the deaf to hear, or give direction to the blind or to such as (wander) in manifest error?

Surah 45 al-Jāthiyah (The Kneeling)
(45:8)

يَسْمَعُ  ءَايَٰتِ  ٱللَّـهِ  تُتْلَىٰ  عَلَيْهِ  ثُمَّ  يُصِرُّ  مُسْتَكْبِرًا  كَأَن  لَّمْ  يَسْمَعْهَا  فَبَشِّرْهُ  بِعَذَابٍ  أَلِيمٍ yasmaʿu āyāti allāhi tutlā ʿalayhi thumma yuṣirru mustakbiran ka‑an lam yasmaʿhā fa‑bashshirhu bi‑ʿadhābin alīmin
He hears the Signs of Allah rehearsed to him, yet is obstinate and lofty, as if he had not heard them: then announce to him a Penalty Grievous!

Surah 47 Muḥammad (Muhammad)
(47:16)

وَمِنْهُم  مَّن  يَسْتَمِعُ  إِلَيْكَ  حَتَّىٰٓ  إِذَا  خَرَجُوا۟  مِنْ  عِندِكَ  قَالُوا۟  لِلَّذِينَ  أُوتُوا۟  ٱلْعِلْمَ  مَاذَا  قَالَ  ءَانِفًا  أُو۟لَٰٓئِكَ  ٱلَّذِينَ  طَبَعَ  ٱللَّـهُ  عَلَىٰ  قُلُوبِهِمْ  وَٱتَّبَعُوٓا۟  أَهْوَآءَهُمْ wa‑minhum man yastamiʿu ilayka ḥatta idhā kharajū min ʿindika qālū li‑lladhīna ūtū l‑ʿilma mādhā qalā ānifan ulāʾika lladhīna ṭabaʿa allāhu ʿalā qulūbihim wa‑ittabaʿū ahwāʾahum
And among them are men who listen to thee, but in the end, when they go out from thee, they say to those who have received Knowledge, "What is it he said just then?" Such are men whose hearts Allah has sealed, and who follow their own lusts.

Surah 50 Qāf (Qaf)
(50:41)

And listen for the Day when the Caller will call out from a place quiet near,-

Surah 58 al-Mujādilah (She Who Pleaded)
(58:1)

قَدْ  سَمِعَ  ٱللَّـهُ  قَوْلَ  ٱلَّتِى  تُجَٰدِلُكَ  فِى  زَوْجِهَا  وَتَشْتَكِىٓ  إِلَى  ٱللَّـهِ  وَٱللَّـهُ  يَسْمَعُ  تَحَاوُرَكُمَآ  إِنَّ  ٱللَّـهَ  سَمِيعٌۢ  بَصِيرٌ qad samiʿa allāhu qawla allatī tujādiluka zawjihā wa‑tashtakī ilā allāhi wallāhu yasmaʿu taḥāwurakumā inna allāha samīʿun baṣīrun
Allah has indeed heard (and accepted) the statement of the woman who pleads with thee concerning her husband and carries her complaint (in prayer) to Allah: and Allah (always) hears the arguments between both sides among you: for Allah hears and sees (all things).

Surah 63 al-Munāfiqūn (The Hypocrites)
(63:4)

وَإِذَا  رَأَيْتَهُمْ  تُعْجِبُكَ  أَجْسَامُهُمْ  وَإِن  يَقُولُوا۟  تَسْمَعْ  لِقَوْلِهِمْ  كَأَنَّهُمْ  خُشُبٌ  مُّسَنَّدَةٌ  يَحْسَبُونَ  كُلَّ  صَيْحَةٍ  عَلَيْهِمْ  هُمُ  ٱلْعَدُوُّ  فَٱحْذَرْهُمْ  قَٰتَلَهُمُ  ٱللَّـهُ  أَنَّىٰ  يُؤْفَكُونَ wa‑idhā raʾaytahum tuʿjibuka ajsāmuhum wa‑in yaqūlū tasmaʿ liqawlihim ka‑annahum khushubun musannadatun yaḥsabūna kulla ṣayḥatin ʿalayhim humu l‑ʿadūwu faḥdharhum qātalahumu allāhu annā yuʾfakūna
When thou lookest at them, their exteriors please thee; and when they speak, thou listenest to their words. They are as (worthless as hollow) pieces of timber propped up, (unable to stand on their own). They think that every cry is against them. They are the enemies; so beware of them. The curse of Allah be on them! How are they deluded (away from the Truth)!

Surah 72 al-Jinn (The Jinn)
(72:1)

قُلْ  أُوحِىَ  إِلَىَّ  أَنَّهُ  ٱسْتَمَعَ  نَفَرٌ  مِّنَ  ٱلْجِنِّ  فَقَالُوٓا۟  إِنَّا  سَمِعْنَا  قُرْءَانًا  عَجَبًا qul ūḥiya ilayya annahu istamaʿa nafarun mina l‑jinni fa‑qālū innā samiʿnā qurʾānan ʿajaban
Say: It has been revealed to me that a company of Jinns listened (to the Qur'an). They said, 'We have really heard a wonderful Recital!
(72:9)

وَأَنَّا  كُنَّا  نَقْعُدُ  مِنْهَا  مَقَٰعِدَ  لِلسَّمْعِ  فَمَن  يَسْتَمِعِ  ٱلْأَنَ  يَجِدْ  لَهُۥ  شِهَابًا  رَّصَدًا wa‑annā kunnā naqʿudu minhā maqāʿida lil‑samʿi fa‑man yastamiʿi l‑ana yajid lahu shihāban raṣadan
'We used, indeed, to sit there in (hidden) stations, to (steal) a hearing; but any who listen now will find a flaming fire watching him in ambush.

Surah 88 al-Ghāshiyah (The Overwhelming Calamity)
(88:11)

Where they shall hear no (word) of vanity:
