Surah 2 al-Baqara (The Cow)
RefArabic    TransliterationTranslation
(2:46)

Who bear in mind the certainty that they are to meet their Lord, and that they are to return to Him.
(2:78)

وَمِنْهُمْ  أُمِّيُّونَ  لَا  يَعْلَمُونَ  ٱلْكِتَٰبَ  إِلَّآ  أَمَانِىَّ  وَإِنْ  هُمْ  إِلَّا  يَظُنُّونَ wa‑minhum ummīyūna yaʿlamūna l‑kitāba illā amāniyya wa‑in hum illā yaẓunnūna
And there are among them illiterates, who know not the Book, but (see therein their own) desires, and they do nothing but conjecture.
(2:230)

فَإِن  طَلَّقَهَا  فَلَا  تَحِلُّ  لَهُۥ  مِنۢ  بَعْدُ  حَتَّىٰ  تَنكِحَ  زَوْجًا  غَيْرَهُۥ  فَإِن  طَلَّقَهَا  فَلَا  جُنَاحَ  عَلَيْهِمَآ  أَن  يَتَرَاجَعَآ  إِن  ظَنَّآ  أَن  يُقِيمَا  حُدُودَ  ٱللَّـهِ  وَتِلْكَ  حُدُودُ  ٱللَّـهِ  يُبَيِّنُهَا  لِقَوْمٍ  يَعْلَمُونَ fa‑in ṭallaqahā fa‑lā taḥillu lahu min baʿdu ḥattā tankiḥa zawjan ghayrahu fa‑in ṭallaqahā fa‑lā junāḥa ʿalayhimā an yatarājaʿā in ẓannā an yuqīmā ḥudūda allāhi wa‑tilka ḥudūdu allāhi yubayyinuhā li‑qawmin yaʿlamūna
So if a husband divorces his wife (irrevocably), He cannot, after that, re-marry her until after she has married another husband and He has divorced her. In that case there is no blame on either of them if they re-unite, provided they feel that they can keep the limits ordained by Allah. Such are the limits ordained by Allah, which He makes plain to those who understand.
(2:249)

فَلَمَّا  فَصَلَ  طَالُوتُ  بِٱلْجُنُودِ  قَالَ  إِنَّ  ٱللَّـهَ  مُبْتَلِيكُم  بِنَهَرٍ  فَمَن  شَرِبَ  مِنْهُ  فَلَيْسَ  مِنِّى  وَمَن  لَّمْ  يَطْعَمْهُ  فَإِنَّهُۥ  مِنِّىٓ  إِلَّا  مَنِ  ٱغْتَرَفَ  غُرْفَةًۢ  بِيَدِهِۦ  فَشَرِبُوا۟  مِنْهُ  إِلَّا  قَلِيلًا  مِّنْهُمْ  فَلَمَّا  جَاوَزَهُۥ  هُوَ  وَٱلَّذِينَ  ءَامَنُوا۟  مَعَهُۥ  قَالُوا۟  لَا  طَاقَةَ  لَنَا  ٱلْيَوْمَ  بِجَالُوتَ  وَجُنُودِهِۦ  قَالَ  ٱلَّذِينَ  يَظُنُّونَ  أَنَّهُم  مُّلَٰقُوا۟  ٱللَّـهِ  كَم  مِّن  فِئَةٍ  قَلِيلَةٍ  غَلَبَتْ  فِئَةً  كَثِيرَةًۢ  بِإِذْنِ  ٱللَّـهِ  وَٱللَّـهُ  مَعَ  ٱلصَّٰبِرِينَ fa‑lammā faṣala ṭālūtu bil‑junūdi qalā inna allāha mubtalīkum binaharin fa‑man shariba minhu fa‑laysa minnī wa‑man lam yaṭʿamhu fa‑innahu minnī illā mani ightarafa ghurfatan bi‑yadihi fa‑sharibū minhu illā qalīlan minhum fa‑lammā jāwazahu huwa wa‑lladhīna āmanū maʿahu qālū ṭāqata la‑nā l‑yawma bi‑jālūta wa‑junūdihi qalā lladhīna yaẓunnūna annahum mulāqū allāhi kam min fiʾatin qalīlatin ghalabat fiatan kathīratan bi‑idhni allāhi wallāhu maʿa l‑ṣābirīna
When Talut set forth with the armies, he said: "Allah will test you at the stream: if any drinks of its water, He goes not with my army: Only those who taste not of it go with me: A mere sip out of the hand is excused." but they all drank of it, except a few. When they crossed the river,- He and the faithful ones with him,- they said: "This day We cannot cope with Goliath and his forces." but those who were convinced that they must meet Allah, said: "How oft, by Allah's will, Hath a small force vanquished a big one? Allah is with those who steadfastly persevere."

Surah 3 Āl-ʿImrān (The Family of Imran)

After (the excitement) of the distress, He sent down calm on a band of you overcome with slumber, while another band was stirred to anxiety by their own feelings, Moved by wrong suspicions of Allah-suspicions due to ignorance. They said: "What affair is this of ours?" Say thou: "Indeed, this affair is wholly Allah's." They hide in their minds what they dare not reveal to thee. They say (to themselves): "If we had had anything to do with this affair, We should not have been in the slaughter here." Say: "Even if you had remained in your homes, those for whom death was decreed would certainly have gone forth to the place of their death"; but (all this was) that Allah might test what is in your breasts and purge what is in your hearts. For Allah knoweth well the secrets of your hearts.

Surah 7 al-Aʿrāf (The Heights)
(7:171)

When We shook the Mount over them, as if it had been a canopy, and they thought it was going to fall on them (We said): "Hold firmly to what We have given you, and bring (ever) to remembrance what is therein; perchance ye may fear Allah."

Surah 9 al-Tawbah (Repentance)
(9:118)

وَعَلَى  ٱلثَّلَٰثَةِ  ٱلَّذِينَ  خُلِّفُوا۟  حَتَّىٰٓ  إِذَا  ضَاقَتْ  عَلَيْهِمُ  ٱلْأَرْضُ  بِمَا  رَحُبَتْ  وَضَاقَتْ  عَلَيْهِمْ  أَنفُسُهُمْ  وَظَنُّوٓا۟  أَن  لَّا  مَلْجَأَ  مِنَ  ٱللَّـهِ  إِلَّآ  إِلَيْهِ  ثُمَّ  تَابَ  عَلَيْهِمْ  لِيَتُوبُوٓا۟  إِنَّ  ٱللَّـهَ  هُوَ  ٱلتَّوَّابُ  ٱلرَّحِيمُ wa‑ʿala l‑thalāthati lladhīna khullifū ḥatta idhā ḍāqat ʿalayhimu l‑arḍu bi‑mā raḥubat wa‑ḍāqat ʿalayhim anfusuhum wa‑ẓannū an maljaʾa mina allāhi illā ilayhi thumma tāba ʿalayhim li‑yatūbū inna allāha huwa l‑tawwābu l‑raḥīmu
(He turned in mercy also) to the three who were left behind; (they felt guilty) to such a degree that the earth seemed constrained to them, for all its spaciousness, and their (very) souls seemed straightened to them,- and they perceived that there is no fleeing from Allah (and no refuge) but to Himself. Then He turned to them, that they might repent: for Allah is Oft-Returning, Most Merciful.

Surah 10 Yūnus (Jonah)
(10:22)

He it is Who enableth you to traverse through land and sea; so that ye even board ships;- they sail with them with a favourable wind, and they rejoice thereat; then comes a stormy wind and the waves come to them from all sides, and they think they are being overwhelmed: they cry unto Allah, sincerely offering (their) duty unto Him saying, "If thou dost deliver us from this, we shall truly show our gratitude!"

The likeness of the life of the present is as the rain which We send down from the skies: by its mingling arises the produce of the earth- which provides food for men and animals: (It grows) till the earth is clad with its golden ornaments and is decked out (in beauty): the people to whom it belongs think they have all powers of disposal over it: There reaches it Our command by night or by day, and We make it like a harvest clean-mown, as if it had not flourished only the day before! thus do We explain the Signs in detail for those who reflect.

Surah 12 Yūsuf (Joseph)
(12:42)

وَقَالَ  لِلَّذِى  ظَنَّ  أَنَّهُۥ  نَاجٍ  مِّنْهُمَا  ٱذْكُرْنِى  عِندَ  رَبِّكَ  فَأَنسَىٰهُ  ٱلشَّيْطَٰنُ  ذِكْرَ  رَبِّهِۦ  فَلَبِثَ  فِى  ٱلسِّجْنِ  بِضْعَ  سِنِينَ wa‑qāla lilladhī ẓanna annahu nājin minhumā adhkurnī ʿinda rabbika fa‑ansāhu l‑shayṭānu dhikra rabbihi fa‑labitha l‑sijni biḍʿa sinīna
And of the two, to that one whom he consider about to be saved, he said: "Mention me to thy lord." But Satan made him forget to mention him to his lord: and (Joseph) lingered in prison a few (more) years.
(12:110)

(Respite will be granted) until, when the messengers give up hope (of their people) and (come to) think that they were treated as liars, there reaches them Our help, and those whom We will are delivered into safety. But never will be warded off our punishment from those who are in sin.

Surah 17 al-Isrāʾ (The Children of Israel)
(17:52)

يَوْمَ  يَدْعُوكُمْ  فَتَسْتَجِيبُونَ  بِحَمْدِهِۦ  وَتَظُنُّونَ  إِن  لَّبِثْتُمْ  إِلَّا  قَلِيلًا yawma yadʿūkum fa‑tastajībūna bi‑ḥamdihi wa‑taẓunnūna in llabithtum illā qalīlan

Surah 18 al-Kahf (The Cave)

Surah 22 al-Ḥajj (The Pilgrimage)

If any think that Allah will not help him (His Messenger) in this world and the Hereafter, let him stretch out a rope to the ceiling and cut (himself) off: then let him see whether his plan will remove that which enrages (him)!

Why did not the believers - men and women - when ye heard of the affair,- put the best construction on it in their own minds and say, "This (charge) is an obvious lie"?

Surah 28 al-Qaṣaṣ (The Narrative)
(28:39)

(David) said: "He has undoubtedly wronged thee in demanding thy (single) ewe to be added to his (flock of) ewes: truly many are the partners (in business) who wrong each other: Not so do those who believe and work deeds of righteousness, and how few are they?"...and David gathered that We had tried him: he asked forgiveness of his Lord, fell down, bowing (in prostration), and turned (to Allah in repentance).

Surah 41 Fuṣṣilat (Revelations Well Expounded)
(41:22)

وَمَا  كُنتُمْ  تَسْتَتِرُونَ  أَن  يَشْهَدَ  عَلَيْكُمْ  سَمْعُكُمْ  وَلَآ  أَبْصَٰرُكُمْ  وَلَا  جُلُودُكُمْ  وَلَٰكِن  ظَنَنتُمْ  أَنَّ  ٱللَّـهَ  لَا  يَعْلَمُ  كَثِيرًا  مِّمَّا  تَعْمَلُونَ wa‑mā kuntum tastatirūna an yashhada ʿalaykum samʿukum wa‑lā abṣārukum wa‑lā julūdukum wa‑lākin ẓanantum annā allāha yaʿlamu kathīran mimmā taʿmalūna
"Ye did not seek to hide yourselves, lest your hearing, your sight, and your skins should bear witness against you! But ye did think that Allah knew not many of the things that ye used to do!
(41:23)

"But this thought of yours which ye did entertain concerning your Lord, hath brought you to destruction, and (now) have ye become of those utterly lost!"
(41:48)

The (deities) they used to invoke aforetime will leave them in the lurch, and they will perceive that they have no way of escape.

Surah 45 al-Jāthiyah (The Kneeling)
(45:24)

وَقَالُوا۟  مَا  هِىَ  إِلَّا  حَيَاتُنَا  ٱلدُّنْيَا  نَمُوتُ  وَنَحْيَا  وَمَا  يُهْلِكُنَآ  إِلَّا  ٱلدَّهْرُ  وَمَا  لَهُم  بِذَٰلِكَ  مِنْ  عِلْمٍ  إِنْ  هُمْ  إِلَّا  يَظُنُّونَ wa‑qālū hiya illā ḥayātunā l‑dunyā namūtu wa‑naḥyā wa‑mā yuhlikunā illā l‑dahru wa‑mā lahum bidhālika min ʿilmin in hum illā yaẓunnūna
And they say: "What is there but our life in this world? We shall die and we live, and nothing but time can destroy us." But of that they have no knowledge: they merely conjecture:

(48:12)

بَلْ  ظَنَنتُمْ  أَن  لَّن  يَنقَلِبَ  ٱلرَّسُولُ  وَٱلْمُؤْمِنُونَ  إِلَىٰٓ  أَهْلِيهِمْ  أَبَدًا  وَزُيِّنَ  ذَٰلِكَ  فِى  قُلُوبِكُمْ  وَظَنَنتُمْ  ظَنَّ  ٱلسَّوْءِ  وَكُنتُمْ  قَوْمًۢا  بُورًا bal ẓanantum an lan yanqaliba l‑rasūlu wa‑l‑muʾminūna ila ahlīhim abadan wa‑zuyyina dhālika qulūbikum wa‑ẓanantum ẓanna l‑sawʾi wa‑kuntum qawman būran
"Nay, ye thought that the Messenger and the Believers would never return to their families; this seemed pleasing in your hearts, and ye conceived an evil thought, for ye are a people lost (in wickedness)."

Surah 59 al-Ḥashr (The Exile)
(59:2)

هُوَ  ٱلَّذِىٓ  أَخْرَجَ  ٱلَّذِينَ  كَفَرُوا۟  مِنْ  أَهْلِ  ٱلْكِتَٰبِ  مِن  دِيَٰرِهِمْ  لِأَوَّلِ  ٱلْحَشْرِ  مَا  ظَنَنتُمْ  أَن  يَخْرُجُوا۟  وَظَنُّوٓا۟  أَنَّهُم  مَّانِعَتُهُمْ  حُصُونُهُم  مِّنَ  ٱللَّـهِ  فَأَتَىٰهُمُ  ٱللَّـهُ  مِنْ  حَيْثُ  لَمْ  يَحْتَسِبُوا۟  وَقَذَفَ  فِى  قُلُوبِهِمُ  ٱلرُّعْبَ  يُخْرِبُونَ  بُيُوتَهُم  بِأَيْدِيهِمْ  وَأَيْدِى  ٱلْمُؤْمِنِينَ  فَٱعْتَبِرُوا۟  يَٰٓأُو۟لِى  ٱلْأَبْصَٰرِ huwa alladhī akhraja lladhīna kafarū min ahli l‑kitābi min diyārihim liawwali l‑ḥashri ẓanantum an yakhrujū wa‑ẓannū annahum māniʿatuhum ḥuṣūnuhum mina allāhi faatahumu allāhu min ḥaythu lam yaḥtasibū wa‑qadhafa qulūbihimu l‑ruʿba yukhribūna buyūtahum bi‑aydīhim wa‑aydī l‑muʾminīna faʿtabirū yā‑ūlī l‑abṣāri
It is He Who got out the Unbelievers among the People of the Book from their homes at the first gathering (of the forces). Little did ye think that they would get out: And they thought that their fortresses would defend them from Allah! But the (Wrath of) Allah came to them from quarters from which they little expected (it), and cast terror into their hearts, so that they destroyed their dwellings by their own hands and the hands of the Believers, take warning, then, O ye with eyes (to see)!

Surah 72 al-Jinn (The Jinn)
(72:7)

وَأَنَّهُمْ  ظَنُّوا۟  كَمَا  ظَنَنتُمْ  أَن  لَّن  يَبْعَثَ  ٱللَّـهُ  أَحَدًا wa‑annahum ẓannū ka‑mā ẓanantum an lan yabʿatha allāhu aḥadan
'And they (came to) think as ye thought, that Allah would not raise up any one (to Judgment).

Surah 75 al-Qiyāmah (The Resurrection)
(75:28)

And he will conclude that it was (the Time) of Parting;

Surah 83 al-Muṭaffifīn (The Defrauders)
(83:4)

Do they not think that they will be called to account?-

Surah 84 al-Inshiqāq (The Rending)
(84:14)

Truly, did he think that he would not have to return (to Us)!
