Surah 7 al-Aʿrāf (The Heights)

(7:77)    | فَعَقَرُوا۟ ٱلنَّاقَةَ وَعَتَوْا۟ عَنْ أَمْرِ رَبِّهِمْ وَقَالُوا۟ يَٰصَٰلِحُ ٱئْتِنَا بِمَا تَعِدُنَآ إِن كُنتَ مِنَ ٱلْمُرْسَلِينَ | faʿaqarū l‑nāqata wa‑ʿataw ʿan amri rabbihim wa‑qālū yāṣāliḥu iʾtinā bi‑mā taʿidunā in kunta mina l‑mursalīna | Then they ham-strung the she-camel, and insolently defied the
order of their Lord, saying: "O Salih! bring about thy threats, if thou art
a messenger (of Allah)!"
Sura al-Aʿrāf 7:77 فَعَقَرُوا۟ ٱلنَّاقَةَ وَعَتَوْا۟ عَنْ أَمْرِ رَبِّهِمْ وَقَالُوا۟ يَٰصَٰلِحُ ٱئْتِنَا بِمَا تَعِدُنَآ إِن كُنتَ مِنَ ٱلْمُرْسَلِينَ faʿaqarū l-nāqata wa-ʿataw ʿan amri rabbihim wa-qālū yāṣāliḥu iʾtinā bi-mā taʿidunā in kunta mina l-mursalīna Then they ham-strung the she-camel, and insolently defied the order of their Lord, saying: "O Salih! bring about thy threats, if thou art a messenger (of Allah)!" |
| (7:166) | فَلَمَّا عَتَوْا۟ عَن مَّا نُهُوا۟ عَنْهُ قُلْنَا لَهُمْ كُونُوا۟ قِرَدَةً خَٰسِـِٔينَ | fa‑lammā ʿataw ʿan mā nuhū ʿanhu qulnā lahum kūnū qiradatan khāsiʾīna | When in their insolence they transgressed (all) prohibitions,
We said to them: "Be ye apes, despised and rejected."
Sura al-Aʿrāf 7:166 فَلَمَّا عَتَوْا۟ عَن مَّا نُهُوا۟ عَنْهُ قُلْنَا لَهُمْ كُونُوا۟ قِرَدَةً خَٰسِـِٔينَ fa-lammā ʿataw ʿan mā nuhū ʿanhu qulnā lahum kūnū qiradatan khāsiʾīna When in their insolence they transgressed (all) prohibitions, We said to them: "Be ye apes, despised and rejected." |
Surah 25 al-Furqān (The Criterion) | (25:21) | وَقَالَ ٱلَّذِينَ لَا يَرْجُونَ لِقَآءَنَا لَوْلَآ أُنزِلَ عَلَيْنَا ٱلْمَلَٰٓئِكَةُ أَوْ نَرَىٰ رَبَّنَا لَقَدِ ٱسْتَكْبَرُوا۟ فِىٓ أَنفُسِهِمْ وَعَتَوْ عُتُوًّا كَبِيرًا | wa‑qāla lladhīna lā yarjūna liqāʾanā lawlā unzila ʿalaynā l‑malāʾikatu aw narā rabbanā laqadi istakbarū fī anfusihim wa‑ʿataw ʿutūwan kabīran | Such as fear not the meeting with Us (for Judgment) say: "Why
are not the angels sent down to us, or (why) do we not see our Lord?"
Indeed they have an arrogant conceit of themselves, and mighty is the
insolence of their impiety!
Sura al-Furqān 25:21 وَقَالَ ٱلَّذِينَ لَا يَرْجُونَ لِقَآءَنَا لَوْلَآ أُنزِلَ عَلَيْنَا ٱلْمَلَٰٓئِكَةُ أَوْ نَرَىٰ رَبَّنَا لَقَدِ ٱسْتَكْبَرُوا۟ فِىٓ أَنفُسِهِمْ وَعَتَوْ عُتُوًّا كَبِيرًا wa-qāla lladhīna lā yarjūna liqāʾanā lawlā unzila ʿalaynā l-malāʾikatu aw narā rabbanā laqadi istakbarū fī anfusihim wa-ʿataw ʿutūwan kabīran Such as fear not the meeting with Us (for Judgment) say: "Why are not the angels sent down to us, or (why) do we not see our Lord?" Indeed they have an arrogant conceit of themselves, and mighty is the insolence of their impiety! |
Surah 51 al-Dhāriyāt (The Scatterers) | (51:44) | فَعَتَوْا۟ عَنْ أَمْرِ رَبِّهِمْ فَأَخَذَتْهُمُ ٱلصَّٰعِقَةُ وَهُمْ يَنظُرُونَ | faʿataw ʿan amri rabbihim fa‑akhadhathumu l‑ṣāʿiqatu wa‑hum yanẓurūna | But they insolently defied the Command of their Lord: So the
stunning noise (of an earthquake) seized them, even while they were looking
on.
Sura al-Dhāriyāt 51:44 فَعَتَوْا۟ عَنْ أَمْرِ رَبِّهِمْ فَأَخَذَتْهُمُ ٱلصَّٰعِقَةُ وَهُمْ يَنظُرُونَ faʿataw ʿan amri rabbihim fa-akhadhathumu l-ṣāʿiqatu wa-hum yanẓurūna But they insolently defied the Command of their Lord: So the stunning noise (of an earthquake) seized them, even while they were looking on. |
Surah 65 al-Ṭalāq (The Divorce) | (65:8) | وَكَأَيِّن مِّن قَرْيَةٍ عَتَتْ عَنْ أَمْرِ رَبِّهَا وَرُسُلِهِۦ فَحَاسَبْنَٰهَا حِسَابًا شَدِيدًا وَعَذَّبْنَٰهَا عَذَابًا نُّكْرًا | wakaayyin min qaryatin ʿatat ʿan amri rabbihā wa‑rusulihi fa‑ḥāsabnāhā ḥisāban shadīdan wa‑ʿadhdhabnāhā ʿadhāban nnukran | How many populations that insolently opposed the Command of
their Lord and of His messengers, did We not then call to account,- to severe
account?- and We imposed on them an exemplary Punishment.
Sura al-Ṭalāq 65:8 وَكَأَيِّن مِّن قَرْيَةٍ عَتَتْ عَنْ أَمْرِ رَبِّهَا وَرُسُلِهِۦ فَحَاسَبْنَٰهَا حِسَابًا شَدِيدًا وَعَذَّبْنَٰهَا عَذَابًا نُّكْرًا wakaayyin min qaryatin ʿatat ʿan amri rabbihā wa-rusulihi fa-ḥāsabnāhā ḥisāban shadīdan wa-ʿadhdhabnāhā ʿadhāban nnukran How many populations that insolently opposed the Command of their Lord and of His messengers, did We not then call to account,- to severe account?- and We imposed on them an exemplary Punishment. |
