Surah 2 al-Baqara (The Cow)
RefArabic    TransliterationTranslation
(2:204)

وَمِنَ  ٱلنَّاسِ  مَن  يُعْجِبُكَ  قَوْلُهُۥ  فِى  ٱلْحَيَوٰةِ  ٱلدُّنْيَا  وَيُشْهِدُ  ٱللَّـهَ  عَلَىٰ  مَا  فِى  قَلْبِهِۦ  وَهُوَ  أَلَدُّ  ٱلْخِصَامِ wa‑mina l‑nāsi man yuʿjibuka qawluhu l‑ḥayāti l‑dunyā wa‑yushhidu allāha ʿalā qalbihi wa‑huwa aladdu l‑khiṣāmi
There is the type of man whose speech about this world's life May dazzle thee, and he calls Allah to witness about what is in his heart; yet is he the most contentious of enemies.
(2:221)

وَلَا  تَنكِحُوا۟  ٱلْمُشْرِكَٰتِ  حَتَّىٰ  يُؤْمِنَّ  وَلَأَمَةٌ  مُّؤْمِنَةٌ  خَيْرٌ  مِّن  مُّشْرِكَةٍ  وَلَوْ  أَعْجَبَتْكُمْ  وَلَا  تُنكِحُوا۟  ٱلْمُشْرِكِينَ  حَتَّىٰ  يُؤْمِنُوا۟  وَلَعَبْدٌ  مُّؤْمِنٌ  خَيْرٌ  مِّن  مُّشْرِكٍ  وَلَوْ  أَعْجَبَكُمْ  أُو۟لَٰٓئِكَ  يَدْعُونَ  إِلَى  ٱلنَّارِ  وَٱللَّـهُ  يَدْعُوٓا۟  إِلَى  ٱلْجَنَّةِ  وَٱلْمَغْفِرَةِ  بِإِذْنِهِۦ  وَيُبَيِّنُ  ءَايَٰتِهِۦ  لِلنَّاسِ  لَعَلَّهُمْ  يَتَذَكَّرُونَ wa‑lā tankiḥū l‑mushrikāti ḥattā yuʾminna wa‑la‑amatun muʾminatun khayrun min mushrikatin wa‑law aʿjabatkum wa‑lā tunkiḥū l‑mushrikīna ḥattā yuʾminū wa‑laʿabdun muʾminun khayrun min mushrikin wa‑law aʿjabakum ulāʾika yadʿūna ilā l‑nāri wallāhu yadʿū ilā l‑jannati wa‑l‑maghfirati bi‑idhnihi wa‑yubayyinu āyātihi lil‑nāsi la‑ʿallahum yatadhakkarūna
Do not marry unbelieving women (idolaters), until they believe: A slave woman who believes is better than an unbelieving woman, even though she allures you. Nor marry (your girls) to unbelievers until they believe: A man slave who believes is better than an unbeliever, even though he allures you. Unbelievers do (but) beckon you to the Fire. But Allah beckons by His Grace to the Garden (of bliss) and forgiveness, and makes His Signs clear to mankind: That they may celebrate His praise.

Surah 5 al-Māʾidah (The Table Spread)
(5:100)

قُل  لَّا  يَسْتَوِى  ٱلْخَبِيثُ  وَٱلطَّيِّبُ  وَلَوْ  أَعْجَبَكَ  كَثْرَةُ  ٱلْخَبِيثِ  فَٱتَّقُوا۟  ٱللَّـهَ  يَٰٓأُو۟لِى  ٱلْأَلْبَٰبِ  لَعَلَّكُمْ  تُفْلِحُونَ qul yastawī l‑khabīthu wa‑l‑ṭayyibu wa‑law aʿjabaka kathratu l‑khabīthi fa‑ittaqū allāha yā‑ūlī l‑albābi la‑ʿallakum tufliḥūna
Say: "Not equal are things that are bad and things that are good, even though the abundance of the bad may dazzle thee; so fear Allah, O ye that understand; that (so) ye may prosper."

Surah 7 al-Aʿrāf (The Heights)
(7:63)

أَوَعَجِبْتُمْ  أَن  جَآءَكُمْ  ذِكْرٌ  مِّن  رَّبِّكُمْ  عَلَىٰ  رَجُلٍ  مِّنكُمْ  لِيُنذِرَكُمْ  وَلِتَتَّقُوا۟  وَلَعَلَّكُمْ  تُرْحَمُونَ awa‑ʿajibtum an jāʾakum dhikrun min rabbikum ʿalā rajulin minkum li‑yundhirakum wa‑li‑tattaqū wa‑la‑ʿallakum turḥamūna
"Do ye wonder that there hath come to you a message from your Lord, through a man of your own people, to warn you,- so that ye may fear Allah and haply receive His Mercy?"
(7:69)

أَوَعَجِبْتُمْ  أَن  جَآءَكُمْ  ذِكْرٌ  مِّن  رَّبِّكُمْ  عَلَىٰ  رَجُلٍ  مِّنكُمْ  لِيُنذِرَكُمْ  وَٱذْكُرُوٓا۟  إِذْ  جَعَلَكُمْ  خُلَفَآءَ  مِنۢ  بَعْدِ  قَوْمِ  نُوحٍ  وَزَادَكُمْ  فِى  ٱلْخَلْقِ  بَصْۜطَةً  فَٱذْكُرُوٓا۟  ءَالَآءَ  ٱللَّـهِ  لَعَلَّكُمْ  تُفْلِحُونَ awa‑ʿajibtum an jāʾakum dhikrun min rabbikum ʿalā rajulin minkum li‑yundhirakum wa‑idhkurū idh jaʿalakum khulafāʾa min baʿdi qawmi nūḥin wa‑zādakum l‑khalqi baṣṭatan fa‑udhkurū ālāʾa allāhi la‑ʿallakum tufliḥūna
"Do ye wonder that there hath come to you a message from your Lord through a man of your own people, to warn you? call in remembrance that He made you inheritors after the people of Noah, and gave you a stature tall among the nations. Call in remembrance the benefits (ye have received) from Allah: that so ye may prosper."

Surah 9 al-Tawbah (Repentance)
(9:25)

لَقَدْ  نَصَرَكُمُ  ٱللَّـهُ  فِى  مَوَاطِنَ  كَثِيرَةٍ  وَيَوْمَ  حُنَيْنٍ  إِذْ  أَعْجَبَتْكُمْ  كَثْرَتُكُمْ  فَلَمْ  تُغْنِ  عَنكُمْ  شَيْـًٔا  وَضَاقَتْ  عَلَيْكُمُ  ٱلْأَرْضُ  بِمَا  رَحُبَتْ  ثُمَّ  وَلَّيْتُم  مُّدْبِرِينَ la‑qad naṣarakumu allāhu mawāṭina kathīratin wa‑yawma ḥunaynin idh aʿjabatkum kathratukum falam tughni ʿankum shayʾan wa‑ḍāqat ʿalaykumu l‑arḍu bi‑mā raḥubat thumma wallaytum mudbirīna
Assuredly Allah did help you in many battle-fields and on the day of Hunain: Behold! your great numbers elated you, but they availed you naught: the land, for all that it is wide, did constrain you, and ye turned back in retreat.
(9:55)

Let not their wealth nor their (following in) sons dazzle thee: in reality Allah's plan is to punish them with these things in this life, and that their souls may perish in their (very) denial of Allah.
(9:85)

وَلَا  تُعْجِبْكَ  أَمْوَٰلُهُمْ  وَأَوْلَٰدُهُمْ  إِنَّمَا  يُرِيدُ  ٱللَّـهُ  أَن  يُعَذِّبَهُم  بِهَا  فِى  ٱلدُّنْيَا  وَتَزْهَقَ  أَنفُسُهُمْ  وَهُمْ  كَٰفِرُونَ wa‑lā tuʿjibka amwāluhum wa‑awlāduhum innamā yurīdu allāhu an yuʿadhdhibahum bihā l‑dunyā wa‑tazhaqa anfusuhum wa‑hum kāfirūna
Nor let their wealth nor their (following in) sons dazzle thee: Allah's plan is to punish them with these things in this world, and that their souls may perish in their (very) denial of Allah.

Surah 11 Hūd (Hud)
(11:73)

They said: "Dost thou wonder at Allah's decree? The grace of Allah and His blessings on you, o ye people of the house! for He is indeed worthy of all praise, full of all glory!"

Surah 13 al-Raʿd (The Thunder)
(13:5)

وَإِن  تَعْجَبْ  فَعَجَبٌ  قَوْلُهُمْ  أَءِذَا  كُنَّا  تُرَٰبًا  أَءِنَّا  لَفِى  خَلْقٍ  جَدِيدٍ  أُو۟لَٰٓئِكَ  ٱلَّذِينَ  كَفَرُوا۟  بِرَبِّهِمْ  وَأُو۟لَٰٓئِكَ  ٱلْأَغْلَٰلُ  فِىٓ  أَعْنَاقِهِمْ  وَأُو۟لَٰٓئِكَ  أَصْحَٰبُ  ٱلنَّارِ  هُمْ  فِيهَا  خَٰلِدُونَ wa‑in taʿjab fa‑ʿajabun qawluhum a‑idhā kunnā turāban a‑innā la‑fī khalqin jadīdin ulāʾika lladhīna kafarū bi‑rabbihim wa‑ūlāʾika l‑aghlālu aʿnāqihim wa‑ūlāʾika aṣḥābu l‑nāri hum fīhā khālidūna
If thou dost marvel (at their want of faith), strange is their saying: "When we are (actually) dust, shall we indeed then be in a creation renewed?" They are those who deny their Lord! They are those round whose necks will be yokes (of servitude): they will be Companions of the Fire, to dwell therein (for aye)!

Surah 33 al-Aḥzāb (The Allies)
(33:52)

لَّا  يَحِلُّ  لَكَ  ٱلنِّسَآءُ  مِنۢ  بَعْدُ  وَلَآ  أَن  تَبَدَّلَ  بِهِنَّ  مِنْ  أَزْوَٰجٍ  وَلَوْ  أَعْجَبَكَ  حُسْنُهُنَّ  إِلَّا  مَا  مَلَكَتْ  يَمِينُكَ  وَكَانَ  ٱللَّـهُ  عَلَىٰ  كُلِّ  شَىْءٍ  رَّقِيبًا yaḥillu la‑ka l‑nisāu min baʿdu wa‑lā an tabaddala bihinna min azwājin wa‑law aʿjabaka ḥusnuhunna illā malakat yamīnuka wa‑kāna allāhu ʿalā kulli shayʾin rraqīban
It is not lawful for thee (to marry more) women after this, nor to change them for (other) wives, even though their beauty attract thee, except any thy right hand should possess (as handmaidens): and Allah doth watch over all things.

Surah 37 al-Ṣaffāt (The Rangers)
(37:12)

بَلْ  عَجِبْتَ  وَيَسْخَرُونَ bal ʿajibta wa‑yaskharūna
Truly dost thou marvel, while they ridicule,

Surah 38 Ṣād (Sad)
(38:4)

وَعَجِبُوٓا۟  أَن  جَآءَهُم  مُّنذِرٌ  مِّنْهُمْ  وَقَالَ  ٱلْكَٰفِرُونَ  هَٰذَا  سَٰحِرٌ  كَذَّابٌ wa‑ʿajibū an jāʾahum mundhirun minhum wa‑qāla l‑kāfirūna hādhā sāḥirun kadhdhābun
So they wonder that a Warner has come to them from among themselves! and the Unbelievers say, "This is a sorcerer telling lies!

Surah 48 al-Fatḥ (The Victory)
(48:29)

مُّحَمَّدٌ  رَّسُولُ  ٱللَّـهِ  وَٱلَّذِينَ  مَعَهُۥٓ  أَشِدَّآءُ  عَلَى  ٱلْكُفَّارِ  رُحَمَآءُ  بَيْنَهُمْ  تَرَىٰهُمْ  رُكَّعًا  سُجَّدًا  يَبْتَغُونَ  فَضْلًا  مِّنَ  ٱللَّـهِ  وَرِضْوَٰنًا  سِيمَاهُمْ  فِى  وُجُوهِهِم  مِّنْ  أَثَرِ  ٱلسُّجُودِ  ذَٰلِكَ  مَثَلُهُمْ  فِى  ٱلتَّوْرَىٰةِ  وَمَثَلُهُمْ  فِى  ٱلْإِنجِيلِ  كَزَرْعٍ  أَخْرَجَ  شَطْـَٔهُۥ  فَـَٔازَرَهُۥ  فَٱسْتَغْلَظَ  فَٱسْتَوَىٰ  عَلَىٰ  سُوقِهِۦ  يُعْجِبُ  ٱلزُّرَّاعَ  لِيَغِيظَ  بِهِمُ  ٱلْكُفَّارَ  وَعَدَ  ٱللَّـهُ  ٱلَّذِينَ  ءَامَنُوا۟  وَعَمِلُوا۟  ٱلصَّٰلِحَٰتِ  مِنْهُم  مَّغْفِرَةً  وَأَجْرًا  عَظِيمًۢا muḥammadun rasūlu allāhi wa‑lladhīna maʿahu ashiddāʾu ʿalā l‑kuffāri ruḥamāʾu baynahum tarāhum rukkaʿan sujjadan yabtaghūna faḍlan mina allāhi wa‑riḍwānan sīmāhum wujūhihim min athari l‑sujūdi dhālika mathaluhum l‑tawrāti wa‑mathaluhum li‑injīli kazarʿin akhraja shaṭʾahu fa‑āzarahu fa‑istaghlaẓa fa‑istawā ʿalā sūqihi yuʿjibu l‑zurrāʿa li‑yaghīẓa bihimu l‑kuffāra waʿada allāhu lladhīna āmanū wa‑ʿamilū l‑ṣāliḥāti minhum maghfiratan wa‑ajran ʿaẓīman
Muhammad is the messenger of Allah; and those who are with him are strong against Unbelievers, (but) compassionate amongst each other. Thou wilt see them bow and prostrate themselves (in prayer), seeking Grace from Allah and (His) Good Pleasure. On their faces are their marks, (being) the traces of their prostration. This is their similitude in the Taurat; and their similitude in the Gospel is: like a seed which sends forth its blade, then makes it strong; it then becomes thick, and it stands on its own stem, (filling) the sowers with wonder and delight. As a result, it fills the Unbelievers with rage at them. Allah has promised those among them who believe and do righteous deeds forgiveness, and a great Reward.

Surah 50 Qāf (Qaf)
(50:2)

بَلْ  عَجِبُوٓا۟  أَن  جَآءَهُم  مُّنذِرٌ  مِّنْهُمْ  فَقَالَ  ٱلْكَٰفِرُونَ  هَٰذَا  شَىْءٌ  عَجِيبٌ bal ʿajibū an jāʾahum mundhirun minhum fa‑qāla l‑kāfirūna hādhā shayʾun ʿajībun
But they wonder that there has come to them a Warner from among themselves. So the Unbelievers say: "This is a wonderful thing!

Surah 53 al-Najm (The Star)
(53:59)

أَفَمِنْ  هَٰذَا  ٱلْحَدِيثِ  تَعْجَبُونَ afamin hādhā l‑ḥadīthi taʿjabūna
Do ye then wonder at this recital?

Surah 57 al-Ḥadīd (The Iron)
(57:20)

ٱعْلَمُوٓا۟  أَنَّمَا  ٱلْحَيَوٰةُ  ٱلدُّنْيَا  لَعِبٌ  وَلَهْوٌ  وَزِينَةٌ  وَتَفَاخُرٌۢ  بَيْنَكُمْ  وَتَكَاثُرٌ  فِى  ٱلْأَمْوَٰلِ  وَٱلْأَوْلَٰدِ  كَمَثَلِ  غَيْثٍ  أَعْجَبَ  ٱلْكُفَّارَ  نَبَاتُهُۥ  ثُمَّ  يَهِيجُ  فَتَرَىٰهُ  مُصْفَرًّا  ثُمَّ  يَكُونُ  حُطَٰمًا  وَفِى  ٱلْأَخِرَةِ  عَذَابٌ  شَدِيدٌ  وَمَغْفِرَةٌ  مِّنَ  ٱللَّـهِ  وَرِضْوَٰنٌ  وَمَا  ٱلْحَيَوٰةُ  ٱلدُّنْيَآ  إِلَّا  مَتَٰعُ  ٱلْغُرُورِ aʿlamū annamā l‑ḥayātu l‑dunyā laʿibun wa‑lahwun wa‑zīnatun wa‑tafākhurun baynakum wa‑takāthurun l‑amwāli wa‑l‑awlādi ka‑mathali ghaythin aʿjaba l‑kuffāra nabātuhu thumma yahīju fa‑tarahu muṣfarran thumma yakūnu ḥuṭāman wa‑fī l‑akhirati ʿadhābun shadīdun wa‑maghfiratun mina allāhi wa‑riḍwānun wa‑mā l‑ḥayātu l‑dunyā illā matāʿu l‑ghurūri
Know ye (all), that the life of this world is but play and amusement, pomp and mutual boasting and multiplying, (in rivalry) among yourselves, riches and children. Here is a similitude: How rain and the growth which it brings forth, delight (the hearts of) the tillers; soon it withers; thou wilt see it grow yellow; then it becomes dry and crumbles away. But in the Hereafter is a Penalty severe (for the devotees of wrong). And Forgiveness from Allah and (His) Good Pleasure (for the devotees of Allah). And what is the life of this world, but goods and chattels of deception?

Surah 63 al-Munāfiqūn (The Hypocrites)
(63:4)

وَإِذَا  رَأَيْتَهُمْ  تُعْجِبُكَ  أَجْسَامُهُمْ  وَإِن  يَقُولُوا۟  تَسْمَعْ  لِقَوْلِهِمْ  كَأَنَّهُمْ  خُشُبٌ  مُّسَنَّدَةٌ  يَحْسَبُونَ  كُلَّ  صَيْحَةٍ  عَلَيْهِمْ  هُمُ  ٱلْعَدُوُّ  فَٱحْذَرْهُمْ  قَٰتَلَهُمُ  ٱللَّـهُ  أَنَّىٰ  يُؤْفَكُونَ wa‑idhā raʾaytahum tuʿjibuka ajsāmuhum wa‑in yaqūlū tasmaʿ liqawlihim ka‑annahum khushubun musannadatun yaḥsabūna kulla ṣayḥatin ʿalayhim humu l‑ʿadūwu faḥdharhum qātalahumu allāhu annā yuʾfakūna
When thou lookest at them, their exteriors please thee; and when they speak, thou listenest to their words. They are as (worthless as hollow) pieces of timber propped up, (unable to stand on their own). They think that every cry is against them. They are the enemies; so beware of them. The curse of Allah be on them! How are they deluded (away from the Truth)!
