Sura al-Baqara 2:203

وَٱذْكُرُوا۟ ٱللَّـهَ فِىٓ أَيَّامٍ مَّعْدُودَٰتٍ فَمَن تَعَجَّلَ فِى يَوْمَيْنِ فَلَآ إِثْمَ عَلَيْهِ وَمَن تَأَخَّرَ فَلَآ إِثْمَ عَلَيْهِ لِمَنِ ٱتَّقَىٰ وَٱتَّقُوا۟ ٱللَّـهَ وَٱعْلَمُوٓا۟ أَنَّكُمْ إِلَيْهِ تُحْشَرُونَ

wa-idhkurū allāha fī ayyāmin maʿdūdātin fa-man taʿajjala fī yawmayni fa-lā ithma ʿalayhi wa-man taʾakhkhara fa-lā ithma ʿalayhi limani ittaqā wa-ittaqū allāha wa-iʿlamū annakum ilayhi tuḥsharūna

Celebrate the praises of Allah during the Appointed Days. But if any one hastens to leave in two days, there is no blame on him, and if any one stays on, there is no blame on him, if his aim is to do right. Then fear Allah, and know that ye will surely be gathered unto Him.

Sura al-Anʿām 6:57

قُلْ إِنِّى عَلَىٰ بَيِّنَةٍ مِّن رَّبِّى وَكَذَّبْتُم بِهِۦ مَا عِندِى مَا تَسْتَعْجِلُونَ بِهِۦٓ إِنِ ٱلْحُكْمُ إِلَّا لِلَّـهِ يَقُصُّ ٱلْحَقَّ وَهُوَ خَيْرُ ٱلْفَٰصِلِينَ

qul innī ʿalā bayyinatin min rrabbī wa-kadhdhabtum bihi mā ʿindī mā tastaʿjilūna bihi ini l-ḥukmu illā lillāhi yaquṣṣu l-ḥaqqa wa-huwa khayru l-fāṣilīna

Say: "For me, I (work) on a clear sign from my Lord, but ye reject Him. What ye would see hastened, is not in my power. The command rests with none but Allah: He declares the truth, and He is the best of judges."

Sura al-Anʿām 6:58

قُل لَّوْ أَنَّ عِندِى مَا تَسْتَعْجِلُونَ بِهِۦ لَقُضِىَ ٱلْأَمْرُ بَيْنِى وَبَيْنَكُمْ وَٱللَّـهُ أَعْلَمُ بِٱلظَّٰلِمِينَ

qul law annā ʿindī mā tastaʿjilūna bihi la-quḍiya l-amru baynī wa-baynakum wallāhu aʿlamu bil-ẓālimīna

Say: "If what ye would see hastened were in my power, the matter would be settled at once between you and me. But Allah knoweth best those who do wrong."

Sura al-Aʿrāf 7:150

وَلَمَّا رَجَعَ مُوسَىٰٓ إِلَىٰ قَوْمِهِۦ غَضْبَٰنَ أَسِفًا قَالَ بِئْسَمَا خَلَفْتُمُونِى مِنۢ بَعْدِىٓ أَعَجِلْتُمْ أَمْرَ رَبِّكُمْ وَأَلْقَى ٱلْأَلْوَاحَ وَأَخَذَ بِرَأْسِ أَخِيهِ يَجُرُّهُۥٓ إِلَيْهِ قَالَ ٱبْنَ أُمَّ إِنَّ ٱلْقَوْمَ ٱسْتَضْعَفُونِى وَكَادُوا۟ يَقْتُلُونَنِى فَلَا تُشْمِتْ بِىَ ٱلْأَعْدَآءَ وَلَا تَجْعَلْنِى مَعَ ٱلْقَوْمِ ٱلظَّٰلِمِينَ

wa-lammā rajaʿa mūsā ilā qawmihi ghaḍbāna asifan qalā biʾsamā khalaftumūnī min baʿdī aʿajiltum amra rabbikum wa-alqa l-alwāḥa wa-akhadha bi-raʾsi akhīhi yajurruhu ilayhi qalā ibna umma inna l-qawma istaḍʿafūnī wa-kādū yaqtulūnanī fa-lā tushmit biya l-aʿdāʾa wa-lā tajʿalnī maʿa l-qawmi l-ẓālimīna

When Moses came back to his people, angry and grieved, he said: "Evil it is that ye have done in my place in my absence: did ye make haste to bring on the judgment of your Lord?" He put down the tablets, seized his brother by (the hair of) his head, and dragged him to him. Aaron said: "Son of my mother! the people did indeed reckon me as naught, and went near to slaying me! Make not the enemies rejoice over my misfortune, nor count thou me amongst the people of sin."

Sura Yūnus 10:11

وَلَوْ يُعَجِّلُ ٱللَّـهُ لِلنَّاسِ ٱلشَّرَّ ٱسْتِعْجَالَهُم بِٱلْخَيْرِ لَقُضِىَ إِلَيْهِمْ أَجَلُهُمْ فَنَذَرُ ٱلَّذِينَ لَا يَرْجُونَ لِقَآءَنَا فِى طُغْيَٰنِهِمْ يَعْمَهُونَ

wa-law yuʿajjilu allāhu lil-nāsi l-sharra istiʿjālahum bil-khayri la-quḍiya ilayhim ajaluhum fanadharu lladhīna lā yarjūna liqāʾanā fī ṭughyānihim yaʿmahūna

If Allah were to hasten for men the ill (they have earned) as they would fain hasten on the good,- then would their respite be settled at once. But We leave those who rest not their hope on their meeting with Us, in their trespasses, wandering in distraction to and fro.

Sura Yūnus 10:50

قُلْ أَرَءَيْتُمْ إِنْ أَتَىٰكُمْ عَذَابُهُۥ بَيَٰتًا أَوْ نَهَارًا مَّاذَا يَسْتَعْجِلُ مِنْهُ ٱلْمُجْرِمُونَ

qul a-raʾaytum in atakum ʿadhābuhu bayātan aw nahāran mādhā yastaʿjilu minhu l-mujrimūna

Say: "Do ye see,- if His punishment should come to you by night or by day,- what portion of it would the sinners wish to hasten?

Sura Yūnus 10:51

أَثُمَّ إِذَا مَا وَقَعَ ءَامَنتُم بِهِۦٓ ءَآلْـَٰٔنَ وَقَدْ كُنتُم بِهِۦ تَسْتَعْجِلُونَ

athumma- idhā mā waqaʿa āmantum bihi ālʾāna wa-qad kuntum bihi tastaʿjilūna

"Would ye then believe in it at last, when it actually cometh to pass? (It will then be said): 'Ah! now? and ye wanted (aforetime) to hasten it on!'

Sura al-Raʿd 13:6

وَيَسْتَعْجِلُونَكَ بِٱلسَّيِّئَةِ قَبْلَ ٱلْحَسَنَةِ وَقَدْ خَلَتْ مِن قَبْلِهِمُ ٱلْمَثُلَٰتُ وَإِنَّ رَبَّكَ لَذُو مَغْفِرَةٍ لِّلنَّاسِ عَلَىٰ ظُلْمِهِمْ وَإِنَّ رَبَّكَ لَشَدِيدُ ٱلْعِقَابِ

wa-yastaʿjilūnaka bil-sayyiʾati qabla l-ḥasanati wa-qad khalat min qablihimu l-mathulātu wa-inna rabbaka la-dhū maghfiratin lil-nāsi ʿalā ẓulmihim wa-inna rabbaka la-shadīdu l-ʿiqābi

They ask thee to hasten on the evil in preference to the good: Yet have come to pass, before them, (many) exemplary punishments! But verily thy Lord is full of forgiveness for mankind for their wrong-doing, and verily thy Lord is (also) strict in punishment.

Sura al-Naḥl 16:1

أَتَىٰٓ أَمْرُ ٱللَّـهِ فَلَا تَسْتَعْجِلُوهُ سُبْحَٰنَهُۥ وَتَعَٰلَىٰ عَمَّا يُشْرِكُونَ

ata amru allāhi fa-lā tastaʿjilūhu subḥānahu wa-taʿāla ʿammā yushrikūna

(Inevitable) cometh (to pass) the Command of Allah: seek ye not then to hasten it: Glory to Him, and far is He above having the partners they ascribe unto Him!

Sura al-Isrāʾ 17:18

مَّن كَانَ يُرِيدُ ٱلْعَاجِلَةَ عَجَّلْنَا لَهُۥ فِيهَا مَا نَشَآءُ لِمَن نُّرِيدُ ثُمَّ جَعَلْنَا لَهُۥ جَهَنَّمَ يَصْلَىٰهَا مَذْمُومًا مَّدْحُورًا

man kāna yurīdu l-ʿājilata ʿajjalnā lahu fīhā mā nashāʾu li-man nnurīdu thumma jaʿalnā lahu jahannama yaṣlāhā madhmūman madḥūran

If any do wish for the transitory things (of this life), We readily grant them - such things as We will, to such person as We will: in the end have We provided Hell for them: they will burn therein, disgraced and rejected.

Sura al-Kahf 18:58

وَرَبُّكَ ٱلْغَفُورُ ذُو ٱلرَّحْمَةِ لَوْ يُؤَاخِذُهُم بِمَا كَسَبُوا۟ لَعَجَّلَ لَهُمُ ٱلْعَذَابَ بَل لَّهُم مَّوْعِدٌ لَّن يَجِدُوا۟ مِن دُونِهِۦ مَوْئِلًا

wa-rabbuka l-ghafūru dhū l-raḥmati law yuʾākhidhuhum bi-mā kasabū laʿajjala lahumu l-ʿadhāba bal lahum mawʿidun lan yajidū min dūnihi mawʾilan

But your Lord is Most forgiving, full of Mercy. If He were to call them (at once) to account for what they have earned, then surely He would have hastened their punishment: but they have their appointed time, beyond which they will find no refuge.

Sura Maryam 19:84

فَلَا تَعْجَلْ عَلَيْهِمْ إِنَّمَا نَعُدُّ لَهُمْ عَدًّا

fa-lā taʿjal ʿalayhim innamā naʿuddu lahum ʿaddan

So make no haste against them, for We but count out to them a (limited) number (of days).

Sura Ṭā Hā 20:83

وَمَآ أَعْجَلَكَ عَن قَوْمِكَ يَٰمُوسَىٰ

wa-mā aʿjalaka ʿan qawmika yā-mūsā

(When Moses was up on the Mount, Allah said:) "What made thee hasten in advance of thy people, O Moses?"

Sura Ṭā Hā 20:84

قَالَ هُمْ أُو۟لَآءِ عَلَىٰٓ أَثَرِى وَعَجِلْتُ إِلَيْكَ رَبِّ لِتَرْضَىٰ

qalā hum ūlāʾi ʿala atharī wa-ʿajiltu ilayka rabbi li-tarḍā

He replied: "Behold, they are close on my footsteps: I hastened to thee, O my Lord, to please thee."

Sura Ṭā Hā 20:114

فَتَعَٰلَى ٱللَّـهُ ٱلْمَلِكُ ٱلْحَقُّ وَلَا تَعْجَلْ بِٱلْقُرْءَانِ مِن قَبْلِ أَن يُقْضَىٰٓ إِلَيْكَ وَحْيُهُۥ وَقُل رَّبِّ زِدْنِى عِلْمًا

fa-taʿālā allāhu l-maliku l-ḥaqqu wa-lā taʿjal bil-qurʾāni min qabli an yuqḍa ilayka waḥyuhu wa-qul rrabbi zidnī ʿilman

High above all is Allah, the King, the Truth! Be not in haste with the Qur'an before its revelation to thee is completed, but say, "O my Lord! advance me in knowledge."

Sura al-Anbiyāʾ 21:37

خُلِقَ ٱلْإِنسَٰنُ مِنْ عَجَلٍ سَأُو۟رِيكُمْ ءَايَٰتِى فَلَا تَسْتَعْجِلُونِ

khuliqa l-insānu min ʿajalin sa-ūrīkum āyātī fa-lā tastaʿjilūni

Man is a creature of haste: soon (enough) will I show you My Signs; then ye will not ask Me to hasten them!

Sura al-Ḥajj 22:47

وَيَسْتَعْجِلُونَكَ بِٱلْعَذَابِ وَلَن يُخْلِفَ ٱللَّـهُ وَعْدَهُۥ وَإِنَّ يَوْمًا عِندَ رَبِّكَ كَأَلْفِ سَنَةٍ مِّمَّا تَعُدُّونَ

wa-yastaʿjilūnaka bil-ʿadhābi wa-lan yukhlifa allāhu waʿdahu wa-inna yawman ʿinda rabbika kaalfi sanatin mimmā taʿuddūna

Yet they ask thee to hasten on the Punishment! But Allah will not fail in His Promise. Verily a Day in the sight of thy Lord is like a thousand years of your reckoning.

Sura al-Shuʿarā 26:204

أَفَبِعَذَابِنَا يَسْتَعْجِلُونَ

a-fa-biʿadhābinā yastaʿjilūna

Do they then ask for Our Penalty to be hastened on?

Sura al-Naml 27:46

قَالَ يَٰقَوْمِ لِمَ تَسْتَعْجِلُونَ بِٱلسَّيِّئَةِ قَبْلَ ٱلْحَسَنَةِ لَوْلَا تَسْتَغْفِرُونَ ٱللَّـهَ لَعَلَّكُمْ تُرْحَمُونَ

qalā yā-qawmi lima tastaʿjilūna bil-sayyiʾati qabla l-ḥasanati lawlā tastaghfirūna allāha la-ʿallakum turḥamūna

He said: "O my people! why ask ye to hasten on the evil in preference to the good? If only ye ask Allah for forgiveness, ye may hope to receive mercy.

Sura al-Naml 27:72

قُلْ عَسَىٰٓ أَن يَكُونَ رَدِفَ لَكُم بَعْضُ ٱلَّذِى تَسْتَعْجِلُونَ

qul ʿasā an yakūna radifa la-kum baʿḍu alladhī tastaʿjilūna

Say: "It may be that some of the events which ye wish to hasten on may be (close) in your pursuit!"

Sura al-ʿAnkabūt 29:53

وَيَسْتَعْجِلُونَكَ بِٱلْعَذَابِ وَلَوْلَآ أَجَلٌ مُّسَمًّى لَّجَآءَهُمُ ٱلْعَذَابُ وَلَيَأْتِيَنَّهُم بَغْتَةً وَهُمْ لَا يَشْعُرُونَ

wa-yastaʿjilūnaka bil-ʿadhābi wa-lawlā ajalun musamman la-jāʾahumu l-ʿadhābu wa-la-yaʾtiyannahum baghtatan wa-hum lā yashʿurūna

They ask thee to hasten on the Punishment (for them): had it not been for a term (of respite) appointed, the Punishment would certainly have come to them: and it will certainly reach them,- of a sudden, while they perceive not!

Sura al-ʿAnkabūt 29:54

يَسْتَعْجِلُونَكَ بِٱلْعَذَابِ وَإِنَّ جَهَنَّمَ لَمُحِيطَةٌۢ بِٱلْكَٰفِرِينَ

yastaʿjilūnaka bil-ʿadhābi wa-inna jahannama la-muḥīṭatun bil-kāfirīna

They ask thee to hasten on the Punishment: but, of a surety, Hell will encompass the Rejecters of Faith!-

Sura al-Ṣaffāt 37:176

أَفَبِعَذَابِنَا يَسْتَعْجِلُونَ

a-fa-biʿadhābinā yastaʿjilūna

Do they wish (indeed) to hurry on our Punishment?

Sura Ṣād 38:16

وَقَالُوا۟ رَبَّنَا عَجِّل لَّنَا قِطَّنَا قَبْلَ يَوْمِ ٱلْحِسَابِ

wa-qālū rabbanā ʿajjil lanā qiṭṭanā qabla yawmi l-ḥisābi

They say: "Our Lord! hasten to us our sentence (even) before the Day of Account!"

Sura al-Shūrā 42:18

يَسْتَعْجِلُ بِهَا ٱلَّذِينَ لَا يُؤْمِنُونَ بِهَا وَٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوا۟ مُشْفِقُونَ مِنْهَا وَيَعْلَمُونَ أَنَّهَا ٱلْحَقُّ أَلَآ إِنَّ ٱلَّذِينَ يُمَارُونَ فِى ٱلسَّاعَةِ لَفِى ضَلَٰلٍۭ بَعِيدٍ

yastaʿjilu bihā lladhīna lā yuʾminūna bihā wa-lladhīna āmanū mushfiqūna minhā wa-yaʿlamūna annahā l-ḥaqqu āla inna lladhīna yumārūna fī l-sāʿati la-fī ḍalālin baʿīdin

Only those wish to hasten it who believe not in it: those who believe hold it in awe, and know that it is the Truth. Behold, verily those that dispute concerning the Hour are far astray.

Sura al-Aḥqāf 46:24

فَلَمَّا رَأَوْهُ عَارِضًا مُّسْتَقْبِلَ أَوْدِيَتِهِمْ قَالُوا۟ هَٰذَا عَارِضٌ مُّمْطِرُنَا بَلْ هُوَ مَا ٱسْتَعْجَلْتُم بِهِۦ رِيحٌ فِيهَا عَذَابٌ أَلِيمٌ

fa-lammā raʾawhu ʿāriḍan mustaqbila awdiyatihim qālū hādhā ʿāriḍun mumṭirunā bal huwa mā istaʿjaltum bihi rīḥun fīhā ʿadhābun alīmun

Then, when they saw the (Penalty in the shape of) a cloud traversing the sky, coming to meet their valleys, they said, "This cloud will give us rain!" "Nay, it is the (Calamity) ye were asking to be hastened!- A wind wherein is a Grievous Penalty!

Sura al-Aḥqāf 46:35

فَٱصْبِرْ كَمَا صَبَرَ أُو۟لُوا۟ ٱلْعَزْمِ مِنَ ٱلرُّسُلِ وَلَا تَسْتَعْجِل لَّهُمْ كَأَنَّهُمْ يَوْمَ يَرَوْنَ مَا يُوعَدُونَ لَمْ يَلْبَثُوٓا۟ إِلَّا سَاعَةً مِّن نَّهَارٍۭ بَلَٰغٌ فَهَلْ يُهْلَكُ إِلَّا ٱلْقَوْمُ ٱلْفَٰسِقُونَ

fa-iṣbir ka-mā ṣabara ūlū l-ʿazmi mina l-rusuli wa-lā tastaʿjil lahum ka-annahum yawma yarawna mā yūʿadūna lam yalbathū illā sāʿatan min nahārin balāghun fa-hal yuhlaku illā l-qawmu l-fāsiqūna

Therefore patiently persevere, as did (all) messengers of inflexible purpose; and be in no haste about the (Unbelievers). On the Day that they see the (Punishment) promised them, (it will be) as if they had not tarried more than an hour in a single day. (Thine but) to proclaim the Message: but shall any be destroyed except those who transgress?

Sura al-Fatḥ 48:20

وَعَدَكُمُ ٱللَّـهُ مَغَانِمَ كَثِيرَةً تَأْخُذُونَهَا فَعَجَّلَ لَكُمْ هَٰذِهِۦ وَكَفَّ أَيْدِىَ ٱلنَّاسِ عَنكُمْ وَلِتَكُونَ ءَايَةً لِّلْمُؤْمِنِينَ وَيَهْدِيَكُمْ صِرَٰطًا مُّسْتَقِيمًا

waʿadakumu allāhu maghānima kathīratan takhudhūnahā fa-ʿajjala la-kum hādhihi wa-kaffa aydiya l-nāsi ʿankum wa-li-takūna āyatan lil-muʾminīna wa-yahdiyakum ṣirāṭan mustaqīman

Allah has promised you many gains that ye shall acquire, and He has given you these beforehand; and He has restrained the hands of men from you; that it may be a Sign for the Believers, and that He may guide you to a Straight Path;

Sura al-Dhāriyāt 51:14

ذُوقُوا۟ فِتْنَتَكُمْ هَٰذَا ٱلَّذِى كُنتُم بِهِۦ تَسْتَعْجِلُونَ

dhūqū fitnatakum hādhā alladhī kuntum bihi tastaʿjilūna

"Taste ye your trial! This is what ye used to ask to be hastened!"

Sura al-Dhāriyāt 51:59

فَإِنَّ لِلَّذِينَ ظَلَمُوا۟ ذَنُوبًا مِّثْلَ ذَنُوبِ أَصْحَٰبِهِمْ فَلَا يَسْتَعْجِلُونِ

fa-inna li-lladhīna ẓalamū dhanūban mithla dhanūbi aṣḥābihim fa-lā yastaʿjilūni

For the Wrong-doers, their portion is like unto the portion of their fellows (of earlier generations): then let them not ask Me to hasten (that portion)!

Sura al-Qiyāmah 75:16

لَا تُحَرِّكْ بِهِۦ لِسَانَكَ لِتَعْجَلَ بِهِۦٓ

lā tuḥarrik bihi li-sānaka li-taʿjala bihi

Move not thy tongue concerning the (Qur'an) to make haste therewith.
