"We should indeed invent a lie against Allah, if we returned to your ways after Allah hath rescued us therefrom; nor could we by any manner of means return thereto unless it be as in the will and plan of Allah, Our Lord. (O Unbelievers!) if ye prayed for victory and judgment, now hath the judgment come to you: if ye desist (from wrong), it will be best for you: if ye return (to the attack), so shall We. Not the least good will your forces be to you even if they were multiplied: for verily Allah is with those who believe!
(8:38)

(58:8)

أَلَمْ  تَرَ  إِلَى  ٱلَّذِينَ  نُهُوا۟  عَنِ  ٱلنَّجْوَىٰ  ثُمَّ  يَعُودُونَ  لِمَا  نُهُوا۟  عَنْهُ  وَيَتَنَٰجَوْنَ  بِٱلْإِثْمِ  وَٱلْعُدْوَٰنِ  وَمَعْصِيَتِ  ٱلرَّسُولِ  وَإِذَا  جَآءُوكَ  حَيَّوْكَ  بِمَا  لَمْ  يُحَيِّكَ  بِهِ  ٱللَّـهُ  وَيَقُولُونَ  فِىٓ  أَنفُسِهِمْ  لَوْلَا  يُعَذِّبُنَا  ٱللَّـهُ  بِمَا  نَقُولُ  حَسْبُهُمْ  جَهَنَّمُ  يَصْلَوْنَهَا  فَبِئْسَ  ٱلْمَصِيرُ a‑lam tara ilā lladhīna nuhū ʿani l‑najwā thumma yaʿūdūna li‑mā nuhū ʿanhu wa‑yatanājawna bi‑l‑ithmi wa‑l‑ʿudwāni wa‑maʿṣīati l‑rasūli wa‑idhā jāʾūka ḥayyawka bi‑mā lam yuḥayyika bihi allāhu wa‑yaqūlūna anfusihim lawlā yuʿadhdhibunā allāhu bi‑mā naqūlu ḥasbuhum jahannamu yaṣlawnahā fa‑bisa l‑maṣīru
Turnest thou not thy sight towards those who were forbidden secret counsels yet revert to that which they were forbidden (to do)? And they hold secret counsels among themselves for iniquity and hostility, and disobedience to the Messenger. And when they come to thee, they salute thee, not as Allah salutes thee, (but in crooked ways): And they say to themselves, "Why does not Allah punish us for our words?" Enough for them is Hell: In it will they burn, and evil is that destination!
