Sura Āl-ʿImrān 3:154

ثُمَّ أَنزَلَ عَلَيْكُم مِّنۢ بَعْدِ ٱلْغَمِّ أَمَنَةً نُّعَاسًا يَغْشَىٰ طَآئِفَةً مِّنكُمْ وَطَآئِفَةٌ قَدْ أَهَمَّتْهُمْ أَنفُسُهُمْ يَظُنُّونَ بِٱللَّـهِ غَيْرَ ٱلْحَقِّ ظَنَّ ٱلْجَٰهِلِيَّةِ يَقُولُونَ هَل لَّنَا مِنَ ٱلْأَمْرِ مِن شَىْءٍ قُلْ إِنَّ ٱلْأَمْرَ كُلَّهُۥ لِلَّـهِ يُخْفُونَ فِىٓ أَنفُسِهِم مَّا لَا يُبْدُونَ لَكَ يَقُولُونَ لَوْ كَانَ لَنَا مِنَ ٱلْأَمْرِ شَىْءٌ مَّا قُتِلْنَا هَٰهُنَا قُل لَّوْ كُنتُمْ فِى بُيُوتِكُمْ لَبَرَزَ ٱلَّذِينَ كُتِبَ عَلَيْهِمُ ٱلْقَتْلُ إِلَىٰ مَضَاجِعِهِمْ وَلِيَبْتَلِىَ ٱللَّـهُ مَا فِى صُدُورِكُمْ وَلِيُمَحِّصَ مَا فِى قُلُوبِكُمْ وَٱللَّـهُ عَلِيمٌۢ بِذَاتِ ٱلصُّدُورِ

thumma anzala ʿalaykum min baʿdi l-ghammi amanatan nnuʿāsan yaghshā ṭāʾifatan minkum wa-ṭāʾifatun qad ahammathum anfusuhum yaẓunnūna billāhi ghayra l-ḥaqqi ẓanna l-jāhiliyyati yaqūlūna hal lanā mina l-amri min shayʾin qul inna l-amra kullahu lillāhi yukhfūna fī anfusihim mā lā yubdūna la-ka yaqūlūna law kāna la-nā mina l-amri shayʾun mā qutilnā hāhunā qul law kuntum fī buyūtikum labaraza lladhīna kutiba ʿalayhimu l-qatlu ilā maḍājiʿihim wa-li-yabtaliya allāhu mā fī ṣudūrikum wa-li-yumaḥḥiṣa mā fī qulūbikum wallāhu ʿalīmun bi-dhāti l-ṣudūri

After (the excitement) of the distress, He sent down calm on a band of you overcome with slumber, while another band was stirred to anxiety by their own feelings, Moved by wrong suspicions of Allah-suspicions due to ignorance. They said: "What affair is this of ours?" Say thou: "Indeed, this affair is wholly Allah's." They hide in their minds what they dare not reveal to thee. They say (to themselves): "If we had had anything to do with this affair, We should not have been in the slaughter here." Say: "Even if you had remained in your homes, those for whom death was decreed would certainly have gone forth to the place of their death"; but (all this was) that Allah might test what is in your breasts and purge what is in your hearts. For Allah knoweth well the secrets of your hearts.

Sura Ibrāhīm 14:50

سَرَابِيلُهُم مِّن قَطِرَانٍ وَتَغْشَىٰ وُجُوهَهُمُ ٱلنَّارُ

sarābīluhum min qaṭirānin wa-taghsha wujūhahumu l-nāru

Their garments of liquid pitch, and their faces covered with Fire;

Sura Ṭā Hā 20:78

فَأَتْبَعَهُمْ فِرْعَوْنُ بِجُنُودِهِۦ فَغَشِيَهُم مِّنَ ٱلْيَمِّ مَا غَشِيَهُمْ

fa-atbaʿahum firʿawun bi-junūdihi fa-ghashiyahum mina l-yammi mā ghashiyahum

Then Pharaoh pursued them with his forces, but the waters completely overwhelmed them and covered them up.

Sura al-Nūr 24:40

أَوْ كَظُلُمَٰتٍ فِى بَحْرٍ لُّجِّىٍّ يَغْشَىٰهُ مَوْجٌ مِّن فَوْقِهِۦ مَوْجٌ مِّن فَوْقِهِۦ سَحَابٌ ظُلُمَٰتٌۢ بَعْضُهَا فَوْقَ بَعْضٍ إِذَآ أَخْرَجَ يَدَهُۥ لَمْ يَكَدْ يَرَىٰهَا وَمَن لَّمْ يَجْعَلِ ٱللَّـهُ لَهُۥ نُورًا فَمَا لَهُۥ مِن نُّورٍ

aw kaẓulumātin fī baḥrin llujjiyyin yaghshahu mawjun min fawqihi mawjun min fawqihi saḥābun ẓulumātun baʿḍuhā fawqa baʿḍin idhā akhraja yadahu lam yakad yarahā wa-man lam yajʿali allāhu lahu nūran fa-mā lahu min nnūrin

Or (the Unbelievers' state) is like the depths of darkness in a vast deep ocean, overwhelmed with billow topped by billow, topped by (dark) clouds: depths of darkness, one above another: if a man stretches out his hands, he can hardly see it! for any to whom Allah giveth not light, there is no light!

Sura al-ʿAnkabūt 29:55

يَوْمَ يَغْشَىٰهُمُ ٱلْعَذَابُ مِن فَوْقِهِمْ وَمِن تَحْتِ أَرْجُلِهِمْ وَيَقُولُ ذُوقُوا۟ مَا كُنتُمْ تَعْمَلُونَ

yawma yaghshahumu l-ʿadhābu min fawqihim wa-min taḥti arjulihim wa-yaqūlu dhūqū mā kuntum taʿmalūna

On the Day that the Punishment shall cover them from above them and from below them, and (a Voice) shall say: "Taste ye (the fruits) of your deeds!"

Sura Luqmān 31:32

وَإِذَا غَشِيَهُم مَّوْجٌ كَٱلظُّلَلِ دَعَوُا۟ ٱللَّـهَ مُخْلِصِينَ لَهُ ٱلدِّينَ فَلَمَّا نَجَّىٰهُمْ إِلَى ٱلْبَرِّ فَمِنْهُم مُّقْتَصِدٌ وَمَا يَجْحَدُ بِـَٔايَٰتِنَآ إِلَّا كُلُّ خَتَّارٍ كَفُورٍ

wa-idhā ghashiyahum mawjun ka-l-ẓulali daʿawu allāha mukhliṣīna lahu l-dīna fa-lammā najjahum ilā l-barri fa-minhum muqtaṣidun wa-mā yajḥadu bi-āyātinā illā kullu khattārin kafūrin

When a wave covers them like the canopy (of clouds), they call to Allah, offering Him sincere devotion. But when He has delivered them safely to land, there are among them those that halt between (right and wrong). But none reject Our Signs except only a perfidious ungrateful (wretch)!

Sura al-Aḥzāb 33:19

أَشِحَّةً عَلَيْكُمْ فَإِذَا جَآءَ ٱلْخَوْفُ رَأَيْتَهُمْ يَنظُرُونَ إِلَيْكَ تَدُورُ أَعْيُنُهُمْ كَٱلَّذِى يُغْشَىٰ عَلَيْهِ مِنَ ٱلْمَوْتِ فَإِذَا ذَهَبَ ٱلْخَوْفُ سَلَقُوكُم بِأَلْسِنَةٍ حِدَادٍ أَشِحَّةً عَلَى ٱلْخَيْرِ أُو۟لَٰٓئِكَ لَمْ يُؤْمِنُوا۟ فَأَحْبَطَ ٱللَّـهُ أَعْمَٰلَهُمْ وَكَانَ ذَٰلِكَ عَلَى ٱللَّـهِ يَسِيرًا

asḥiḥḥatan ʿalaykum fa-idhā jāa l-khawfu raʾaytahum yanẓurūna ilayka tadūru aʿyunuhum ka-lladhī yughsha ʿalayhi mina l-mawti fa-idhā dhahaba l-khawfu salaqūkum bi-alsinatin ḥidādin asḥiḥḥatan ʿalā l-khayri ulāʾika lam yuʾminū fa-aḥbaṭa allāhu aʿmālahum wa-kāna dhālika ʿalā allāhi yasīran

Covetous over you. Then when fear comes, thou wilt see them looking to thee, their eyes revolving, like (those of) one over whom hovers death: but when the fear is past, they will smite you with sharp tongues, covetous of goods. Such men have no faith, and so Allah has made their deeds of none effect: and that is easy for Allah.

Sura al-Dukhān 44:11

يَغْشَى ٱلنَّاسَ هَٰذَا عَذَابٌ أَلِيمٌ

yaghshā l-nāsa hādhā ʿadhābun alīmun

Enveloping the people: this will be a Penalty Grievous.

Sura al-Najm 53:16

إِذْ يَغْشَى ٱلسِّدْرَةَ مَا يَغْشَىٰ

idh yaghshā l-sidrata mā yaghshā

Behold, the Lote-tree was shrouded (in mystery unspeakable!)

Sura al-Shams 91:4

وَٱلَّيْلِ إِذَا يَغْشَىٰهَا

wa-l-layli idhā yaghshāhā

By the Night as it conceals it;

Sura al-Layl 92:1

وَٱلَّيْلِ إِذَا يَغْشَىٰ

walla-yli idhā yaghshā

By the Night as it conceals (the light);
