Sura al-Baqara 2:199

ثُمَّ أَفِيضُوا۟ مِنْ حَيْثُ أَفَاضَ ٱلنَّاسُ وَٱسْتَغْفِرُوا۟ ٱللَّـهَ إِنَّ ٱللَّـهَ غَفُورٌ رَّحِيمٌ

thumma afīḍū min ḥaythu afāḍa l-nāsu wa-astaghfirū allāha inna allāha ghafūrun raḥīmun

Then pass on at a quick pace from the place whence it is usual for the multitude so to do, and ask for Allah's forgiveness. For Allah is Oft-forgiving, Most Merciful.

Sura Āl-ʿImrān 3:135

وَٱلَّذِينَ إِذَا فَعَلُوا۟ فَٰحِشَةً أَوْ ظَلَمُوٓا۟ أَنفُسَهُمْ ذَكَرُوا۟ ٱللَّـهَ فَٱسْتَغْفَرُوا۟ لِذُنُوبِهِمْ وَمَن يَغْفِرُ ٱلذُّنُوبَ إِلَّا ٱللَّـهُ وَلَمْ يُصِرُّوا۟ عَلَىٰ مَا فَعَلُوا۟ وَهُمْ يَعْلَمُونَ

wa-lladhīna idhā faʿalū fāḥishatan aw ẓalamū anfusahum dhakarū allāha fa-astaghfarū lidhunūbihim wa-man yaghfiru l-dhunūba illā allāhu wa-lam yuṣirrū ʿalā mā faʿalū wa-hum yaʿlamūna

And those who, having done something to be ashamed of, or wronged their own souls, earnestly bring Allah to mind, and ask for forgiveness for their sins,- and who can forgive sins except Allah?- and are never obstinate in persisting knowingly in (the wrong) they have done.

Sura Āl-ʿImrān 3:159

فَبِمَا رَحْمَةٍ مِّنَ ٱللَّـهِ لِنتَ لَهُمْ وَلَوْ كُنتَ فَظًّا غَلِيظَ ٱلْقَلْبِ لَٱنفَضُّوا۟ مِنْ حَوْلِكَ فَٱعْفُ عَنْهُمْ وَٱسْتَغْفِرْ لَهُمْ وَشَاوِرْهُمْ فِى ٱلْأَمْرِ فَإِذَا عَزَمْتَ فَتَوَكَّلْ عَلَى ٱللَّـهِ إِنَّ ٱللَّـهَ يُحِبُّ ٱلْمُتَوَكِّلِينَ

fa-bimā raḥmatin mina allāhi linta lahum wa-law kunta faẓẓan ghalīẓa l-qalbi la-infaḍḍū min ḥawlika faʿfu ʿanhum wa-istaghfir lahum wa-shāwirhum fī l-amri fa-idhā ʿazamta fa-tawakkal ʿalā allāhi inna allāha yuḥibbu l-mutawakkilīna

It is part of the Mercy of Allah that thou dost deal gently with them Wert thou severe or harsh-hearted, they would have broken away from about thee: so pass over (Their faults), and ask for (Allah's) forgiveness for them; and consult them in affairs (of moment). Then, when thou hast Taken a decision put thy trust in Allah. For Allah loves those who put their trust (in Him).

Sura al-Nisāʾ 4:64

وَمَآ أَرْسَلْنَا مِن رَّسُولٍ إِلَّا لِيُطَاعَ بِإِذْنِ ٱللَّـهِ وَلَوْ أَنَّهُمْ إِذ ظَّلَمُوٓا۟ أَنفُسَهُمْ جَآءُوكَ فَٱسْتَغْفَرُوا۟ ٱللَّـهَ وَٱسْتَغْفَرَ لَهُمُ ٱلرَّسُولُ لَوَجَدُوا۟ ٱللَّـهَ تَوَّابًا رَّحِيمًا

wa-mā arsalnā min rrasūlin illā li-yuṭāʿa bi-idhni allāhi wa-law annahum idh ẓalamū anfusahum jāʾūka fa-astaghfarū allāha wa-astaghfara lahumu l-rasūlu la-wajadū allāha tawwāban raḥīman

We sent not a messenger, but to be obeyed, in accordance with the will of Allah. If they had only, when they were unjust to themselves, come unto thee and asked Allah's forgiveness, and the Messenger had asked forgiveness for them, they would have found Allah indeed Oft-returning, Most Merciful.

Sura al-Nisāʾ 4:106

وَٱسْتَغْفِرِ ٱللَّـهَ إِنَّ ٱللَّـهَ كَانَ غَفُورًا رَّحِيمًا

wa-istaghfiri allāha inna allāha kāna ghafūran raḥīman

But seek the forgiveness of Allah; for Allah is Oft-forgiving, Most Merciful.

Sura al-Nisāʾ 4:110

وَمَن يَعْمَلْ سُوٓءًا أَوْ يَظْلِمْ نَفْسَهُۥ ثُمَّ يَسْتَغْفِرِ ٱللَّـهَ يَجِدِ ٱللَّـهَ غَفُورًا رَّحِيمًا

wa-man yaʿmal sūʾan aw yaẓlim nafsahu thumma yastaghfiri allāha yajidi allāha ghafūran raḥīman

If any one does evil or wrongs his own soul but afterwards seeks Allah's forgiveness, he will find Allah Oft-forgiving, Most Merciful.

Sura al-Māʾidah 5:74

أَفَلَا يَتُوبُونَ إِلَى ٱللَّـهِ وَيَسْتَغْفِرُونَهُۥ وَٱللَّـهُ غَفُورٌ رَّحِيمٌ

a-fa-lā yatūbūna ilā allāhi wa-yastaghfirūnahu wallāhu ghafūrun raḥīmun

Why turn they not to Allah, and seek His forgiveness? For Allah is Oft-forgiving, Most Merciful.

Sura al-Anfāl 8:33

وَمَا كَانَ ٱللَّـهُ لِيُعَذِّبَهُمْ وَأَنتَ فِيهِمْ وَمَا كَانَ ٱللَّـهُ مُعَذِّبَهُمْ وَهُمْ يَسْتَغْفِرُونَ

wa-mā kāna allāhu līuʿadhdhibahum waanta fīhim wa-mā kāna allāhu muʿadhdhibahum wa-hum yastaghfirūna

But Allah was not going to send them a penalty whilst thou wast amongst them; nor was He going to send it whilst they could ask for pardon.

Sura al-Tawbah 9:80

ٱسْتَغْفِرْ لَهُمْ أَوْ لَا تَسْتَغْفِرْ لَهُمْ إِن تَسْتَغْفِرْ لَهُمْ سَبْعِينَ مَرَّةً فَلَن يَغْفِرَ ٱللَّـهُ لَهُمْ ذَٰلِكَ بِأَنَّهُمْ كَفَرُوا۟ بِٱللَّـهِ وَرَسُولِهِۦ وَٱللَّـهُ لَا يَهْدِى ٱلْقَوْمَ ٱلْفَٰسِقِينَ

astaghfir lahum aw lā tastaghfir lahum in tastaghfir lahum sabʿīna marratan fa-lan yaghfira allāhu lahum dhālika bi-annahum kafarū billāhi wa-rasūlihi wallāhu lā yahdī l-qawma l-fāsiqīna

Whether thou ask for their forgiveness, or not, (their sin is unforgivable): if thou ask seventy times for their forgiveness, Allah will not forgive them: because they have rejected Allah and His Messenger: and Allah guideth not those who are perversely rebellious.

Sura al-Tawbah 9:113

مَا كَانَ لِلنَّبِىِّ وَٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوٓا۟ أَن يَسْتَغْفِرُوا۟ لِلْمُشْرِكِينَ وَلَوْ كَانُوٓا۟ أُو۟لِى قُرْبَىٰ مِنۢ بَعْدِ مَا تَبَيَّنَ لَهُمْ أَنَّهُمْ أَصْحَٰبُ ٱلْجَحِيمِ

mā kāna lil-nabiyyi wa-lladhīna āmanū an yastaghfirū lil-mushrikīna wa-law kānū ūlī qurba min baʿdi mā tabayyana lahum annahum aṣḥābu l-jaḥīmi

It is not fitting, for the Prophet and those who believe, that they should pray for forgiveness for Pagans, even though they be of kin, after it is clear to them that they are companions of the Fire.

Sura Hūd 11:3

وَأَنِ ٱسْتَغْفِرُوا۟ رَبَّكُمْ ثُمَّ تُوبُوٓا۟ إِلَيْهِ يُمَتِّعْكُم مَّتَٰعًا حَسَنًا إِلَىٰٓ أَجَلٍ مُّسَمًّى وَيُؤْتِ كُلَّ ذِى فَضْلٍ فَضْلَهُۥ وَإِن تَوَلَّوْا۟ فَإِنِّىٓ أَخَافُ عَلَيْكُمْ عَذَابَ يَوْمٍ كَبِيرٍ

wa-ani istaghfirū rabbakum thumma tūbū ilayhi yumattiʿkum matāʿan ḥasanan ila ajalin musamman wa-yuʾti kulla dhī faḍlin faḍlahu wa-in tawallaw fa-innī akhāfu ʿalaykum ʿadhāba yawmin kabīrin

"(And to preach thus), 'Seek ye the forgiveness of your Lord, and turn to Him in repentance; that He may grant you enjoyment, good (and true), for a term appointed, and bestow His abounding grace on all who abound in merit! But if ye turn away, then I fear for you the penalty of a great day:

Sura Hūd 11:52

وَيَٰقَوْمِ ٱسْتَغْفِرُوا۟ رَبَّكُمْ ثُمَّ تُوبُوٓا۟ إِلَيْهِ يُرْسِلِ ٱلسَّمَآءَ عَلَيْكُم مِّدْرَارًا وَيَزِدْكُمْ قُوَّةً إِلَىٰ قُوَّتِكُمْ وَلَا تَتَوَلَّوْا۟ مُجْرِمِينَ

wa-yā-qawmi istaghfirū rabbakum thumma tūbū ilayhi yursili l-samāʾa ʿalaykum midrāran wa-yazidkum quwwatan ilā quwwatikum wa-lā tatawallaw mujrimīna

"And O my people! Ask forgiveness of your Lord, and turn to Him (in repentance): He will send you the skies pouring abundant rain, and add strength to your strength: so turn ye not back in sin!"

Sura Hūd 11:61

وَإِلَىٰ ثَمُودَ أَخَاهُمْ صَٰلِحًا قَالَ يَٰقَوْمِ ٱعْبُدُوا۟ ٱللَّـهَ مَا لَكُم مِّنْ إِلَٰهٍ غَيْرُهُۥ هُوَ أَنشَأَكُم مِّنَ ٱلْأَرْضِ وَٱسْتَعْمَرَكُمْ فِيهَا فَٱسْتَغْفِرُوهُ ثُمَّ تُوبُوٓا۟ إِلَيْهِ إِنَّ رَبِّى قَرِيبٌ مُّجِيبٌ

wa-ilā thamūda akhāhum ṣāliḥan qalā yā-qawmi iʿbudū allāha mā la-kum min ilāhin ghayruhu huwa anshaʾakum mina l-arḍi wa-istaʿmarakum fīhā fa-istaghfirūhu thumma tūbū ilayhi inna rabbī qarībun mujībun

To the Thamud People (We sent) Salih, one of their own brethren. He said: "O my people! Worship Allah: ye have no other god but Him. It is He Who hath produced you from the earth and settled you therein: then ask forgiveness of Him, and turn to Him (in repentance): for my Lord is (always) near, ready to answer."

Sura Hūd 11:90

وَٱسْتَغْفِرُوا۟ رَبَّكُمْ ثُمَّ تُوبُوٓا۟ إِلَيْهِ إِنَّ رَبِّى رَحِيمٌ وَدُودٌ

wa-astaghfirū rabbakum thumma tūbū ilayhi inna rabbī raḥīmun wadūdun

"But ask forgiveness of your Lord, and turn unto Him (in repentance): For my Lord is indeed full of mercy and loving-kindness."

Sura Yūsuf 12:29

يُوسُفُ أَعْرِضْ عَنْ هَٰذَا وَٱسْتَغْفِرِى لِذَنۢبِكِ إِنَّكِ كُنتِ مِنَ ٱلْخَاطِـِٔينَ

yūsufu aʿriḍ ʿan hādhā wa-istaghfirī li-dhanbiki innaki kunti mina l-khāṭiīna

"O Joseph, pass this over! (O wife), ask forgiveness for thy sin, for truly thou hast been at fault!"

Sura Yūsuf 12:97

قَالُوا۟ يَٰٓأَبَانَا ٱسْتَغْفِرْ لَنَا ذُنُوبَنَآ إِنَّا كُنَّا خَٰطِـِٔينَ

qālū yā-abānā astaghfir la-nā dhunūbanā innā kunnā khāṭiʾīna

They said: "O our father! ask for us forgiveness for our sins, for we were truly at fault."

Sura Yūsuf 12:98

قَالَ سَوْفَ أَسْتَغْفِرُ لَكُمْ رَبِّىٓ إِنَّهُۥ هُوَ ٱلْغَفُورُ ٱلرَّحِيمُ

qalā sawfa astaghfiru la-kum rabbī innahu huwa l-ghafūru l-raḥīmu

He said: "Soon will I ask my Lord for forgiveness for you: for he is indeed Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful."

Sura al-Kahf 18:55

وَمَا مَنَعَ ٱلنَّاسَ أَن يُؤْمِنُوٓا۟ إِذْ جَآءَهُمُ ٱلْهُدَىٰ وَيَسْتَغْفِرُوا۟ رَبَّهُمْ إِلَّآ أَن تَأْتِيَهُمْ سُنَّةُ ٱلْأَوَّلِينَ أَوْ يَأْتِيَهُمُ ٱلْعَذَابُ قُبُلًا

wa-mā manaʿa l-nāsa an yuʾminū idh jāʾahumu l-hudā wa-yastaghfirū rabbahum illā an taʾtiyahum sunnatu l-awwalīna aw yaʾtiyahumu l-ʿadhābu qubulan

And what is there to keep back men from believing, now that Guidance has come to them, nor from praying for forgiveness from their Lord, but that (they ask that) the ways of the ancients be repeated with them, or the Wrath be brought to them face to face?

Sura Maryam 19:47

قَالَ سَلَٰمٌ عَلَيْكَ سَأَسْتَغْفِرُ لَكَ رَبِّىٓ إِنَّهُۥ كَانَ بِى حَفِيًّا

qalā salāmun ʿalayka sa-astaghfiru la-ka rabbī innahu kāna bī ḥafiyyan

Abraham said: "Peace be on thee: I will pray to my Lord for thy forgiveness: for He is to me Most Gracious.

Sura al-Nūr 24:62

إِنَّمَا ٱلْمُؤْمِنُونَ ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوا۟ بِٱللَّـهِ وَرَسُولِهِۦ وَإِذَا كَانُوا۟ مَعَهُۥ عَلَىٰٓ أَمْرٍ جَامِعٍ لَّمْ يَذْهَبُوا۟ حَتَّىٰ يَسْتَـْٔذِنُوهُ إِنَّ ٱلَّذِينَ يَسْتَـْٔذِنُونَكَ أُو۟لَٰٓئِكَ ٱلَّذِينَ يُؤْمِنُونَ بِٱللَّـهِ وَرَسُولِهِۦ فَإِذَا ٱسْتَـْٔذَنُوكَ لِبَعْضِ شَأْنِهِمْ فَأْذَن لِّمَن شِئْتَ مِنْهُمْ وَٱسْتَغْفِرْ لَهُمُ ٱللَّـهَ إِنَّ ٱللَّـهَ غَفُورٌ رَّحِيمٌ

innamā l-muʾminūna lladhīna āmanū billāhi wa-rasūlihi wa-idhā kānū maʿahu ʿala amrin jāmiʿin lam yadhhabū ḥattā yastadhinūhu inna lladhīna yastaʾdhinūnaka ulāʾika lladhīna yuʾminūna billāhi wa-rasūlihi fa-idhā stadhanūka libaʿḍi shanihim fadhan lliman shiʾta minhum wa-istaghfir lahumu allāha inna allāha ghafūrun raḥīmun

Only those are believers, who believe in Allah and His Messenger: when they are with him on a matter requiring collective action, they do not depart until they have asked for his leave; those who ask for thy leave are those who believe in Allah and His Messenger; so when they ask for thy leave, for some business of theirs, give leave to those of them whom thou wilt, and ask Allah for their forgiveness: for Allah is Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful.

Sura al-Naml 27:46

قَالَ يَٰقَوْمِ لِمَ تَسْتَعْجِلُونَ بِٱلسَّيِّئَةِ قَبْلَ ٱلْحَسَنَةِ لَوْلَا تَسْتَغْفِرُونَ ٱللَّـهَ لَعَلَّكُمْ تُرْحَمُونَ

qalā yā-qawmi lima tastaʿjilūna bil-sayyiʾati qabla l-ḥasanati lawlā tastaghfirūna allāha la-ʿallakum turḥamūna

He said: "O my people! why ask ye to hasten on the evil in preference to the good? If only ye ask Allah for forgiveness, ye may hope to receive mercy.

Sura Ṣād 38:24

قَالَ لَقَدْ ظَلَمَكَ بِسُؤَالِ نَعْجَتِكَ إِلَىٰ نِعَاجِهِۦ وَإِنَّ كَثِيرًا مِّنَ ٱلْخُلَطَآءِ لَيَبْغِى بَعْضُهُمْ عَلَىٰ بَعْضٍ إِلَّا ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوا۟ وَعَمِلُوا۟ ٱلصَّٰلِحَٰتِ وَقَلِيلٌ مَّا هُمْ وَظَنَّ دَاوُۥدُ أَنَّمَا فَتَنَّٰهُ فَٱسْتَغْفَرَ رَبَّهُۥ وَخَرَّ رَاكِعًا وَأَنَابَ

qalā la-qad ẓalamaka bi-suʾāli naʿjatika ilā niʿājihi wa-inna kathīran mina l-khulaṭāʾi la-yabghī baʿḍuhum ʿalā baʿḍin illā lladhīna āmanū wa-ʿamilū l-ṣāliḥāti wa-qalīlun mā hum wa-ẓanna dāwudu annamā fatannāhu fa-istaghfara rabbahu wa-kharra rākiʿan wa-anāba

(David) said: "He has undoubtedly wronged thee in demanding thy (single) ewe to be added to his (flock of) ewes: truly many are the partners (in business) who wrong each other: Not so do those who believe and work deeds of righteousness, and how few are they?"...and David gathered that We had tried him: he asked forgiveness of his Lord, fell down, bowing (in prostration), and turned (to Allah in repentance).

Sura al-Ghāfir 40:7

ٱلَّذِينَ يَحْمِلُونَ ٱلْعَرْشَ وَمَنْ حَوْلَهُۥ يُسَبِّحُونَ بِحَمْدِ رَبِّهِمْ وَيُؤْمِنُونَ بِهِۦ وَيَسْتَغْفِرُونَ لِلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوا۟ رَبَّنَا وَسِعْتَ كُلَّ شَىْءٍ رَّحْمَةً وَعِلْمًا فَٱغْفِرْ لِلَّذِينَ تَابُوا۟ وَٱتَّبَعُوا۟ سَبِيلَكَ وَقِهِمْ عَذَابَ ٱلْجَحِيمِ

lladhīna yaḥmilūna l-ʿarsha wa-man ḥawlahu yusabbiḥūna bi-ḥamdi rabbihim wa-yuminūna bihi wa-yastaghfirūna li-lladhīna āmanū rabbanā wasiʿta kulla shayʾin rraḥmatan wa-ʿilman fa-ighfir li-lladhīna tābū wa-ittabaʿū sabīlaka wa-qihim ʿadhāba l-jaḥīmi

Those who sustain the Throne (of Allah) and those around it Sing Glory and Praise to their Lord; believe in Him; and implore Forgiveness for those who believe: "Our Lord! Thy Reach is over all things, in Mercy and Knowledge. Forgive, then, those who turn in Repentance, and follow Thy Path; and preserve them from the Penalty of the Blazing Fire!

Sura al-Ghāfir 40:55

فَٱصْبِرْ إِنَّ وَعْدَ ٱللَّـهِ حَقٌّ وَٱسْتَغْفِرْ لِذَنۢبِكَ وَسَبِّحْ بِحَمْدِ رَبِّكَ بِٱلْعَشِىِّ وَٱلْإِبْكَٰرِ

fa-iṣbir inna waʿda allāhi ḥaqqun wa-istaghfir li-dhanbika wa-sabbiḥ bi-ḥamdi rabbika bil-ʿashiyyi wa-alibkāri

Patiently, then, persevere: for the Promise of Allah is true: and ask forgiveness for thy fault, and celebrate the Praises of thy Lord in the evening and in the morning.

Sura Fuṣṣilat 41:6

قُلْ إِنَّمَآ أَنَا۠ بَشَرٌ مِّثْلُكُمْ يُوحَىٰٓ إِلَىَّ أَنَّمَآ إِلَٰهُكُمْ إِلَٰهٌ وَٰحِدٌ فَٱسْتَقِيمُوٓا۟ إِلَيْهِ وَٱسْتَغْفِرُوهُ وَوَيْلٌ لِّلْمُشْرِكِينَ

qul innamā anā basharun mithlukum yūḥā ilayya annamā ilāhukum ilāhun wāḥidun fa-istaqīmū ilayhi wa-istaghfirūhu wa-waylun lil-mushrikīna

Say thou: "I am but a man like you: It is revealed to me by Inspiration, that your Allah is one Allah: so stand true to Him, and ask for His Forgiveness." And woe to those who join gods with Allah,-

Sura al-Shūrā 42:5

تَكَادُ ٱلسَّمَٰوَٰتُ يَتَفَطَّرْنَ مِن فَوْقِهِنَّ وَٱلْمَلَٰٓئِكَةُ يُسَبِّحُونَ بِحَمْدِ رَبِّهِمْ وَيَسْتَغْفِرُونَ لِمَن فِى ٱلْأَرْضِ أَلَآ إِنَّ ٱللَّـهَ هُوَ ٱلْغَفُورُ ٱلرَّحِيمُ

takādu l-samāwātu yaṭafaṭṭarna min fawqihinna wa-l-malāʾikatu yusabbiḥūna bi-ḥamdi rabbihim wa-yastaghfirūna li-man fī l-arḍi āla inna allāha huwa l-ghafūru l-raḥīmu

The heavens are almost rent asunder from above them (by Him Glory): and the angels celebrate the Praises of their Lord, and pray for forgiveness for (all) beings on earth: Behold! Verily Allah is He, the Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful.

Sura Muḥammad 47:19

فَٱعْلَمْ أَنَّهُۥ لَآ إِلَٰهَ إِلَّا ٱللَّـهُ وَٱسْتَغْفِرْ لِذَنۢبِكَ وَلِلْمُؤْمِنِينَ وَٱلْمُؤْمِنَٰتِ وَٱللَّـهُ يَعْلَمُ مُتَقَلَّبَكُمْ وَمَثْوَىٰكُمْ

fa-iʿlam annahu lā ilāha illā allāhu wa-istaghfir li-dhanbika wa-lil-muʾminīna wa-l-muʾmināti wallāhu yaʿlamu mutaqallabakum wa-mathwākum

Know, therefore, that there is no god but Allah, and ask forgiveness for thy fault, and for the men and women who believe: for Allah knows how ye move about and how ye dwell in your homes.

Sura al-Fatḥ 48:11

سَيَقُولُ لَكَ ٱلْمُخَلَّفُونَ مِنَ ٱلْأَعْرَابِ شَغَلَتْنَآ أَمْوَٰلُنَا وَأَهْلُونَا فَٱسْتَغْفِرْ لَنَا يَقُولُونَ بِأَلْسِنَتِهِم مَّا لَيْسَ فِى قُلُوبِهِمْ قُلْ فَمَن يَمْلِكُ لَكُم مِّنَ ٱللَّـهِ شَيْـًٔا إِنْ أَرَادَ بِكُمْ ضَرًّا أَوْ أَرَادَ بِكُمْ نَفْعًۢا بَلْ كَانَ ٱللَّـهُ بِمَا تَعْمَلُونَ خَبِيرًۢا

sa-yaqūlu la-ka l-mukhallafūna mina l-aʿrābi shaghalatnā amwālunā wa-ahlūnā fastaghfir la-nā yaqūlūna bi-alsinatihim mā laysa fī qulūbihim qul fa-man yamliku la-kum mina allāhi shayʾan in arāda bikum ḍarran aw arāda bikum nafʿan bal kāna allāhu bi-mā taʿmalūna khabīran

The desert Arabs who lagged behind will say to thee: "We were engaged in (looking after) our flocks and herds, and our families: do thou then ask forgiveness for us." They say with their tongues what is not in their hearts. Say: "Who then has any power at all (to intervene) on your behalf with Allah, if His Will is to give you some loss or to give you some profit? But Allah is well acquainted with all that ye do.

Sura al-Dhāriyāt 51:18

وَبِٱلْأَسْحَارِ هُمْ يَسْتَغْفِرُونَ

wa-bil-asḥāri hum yastaghfirūna

And in the hour of early dawn, they (were found) praying for Forgiveness;

Sura al-Mumtaḥanah 60:4

قَدْ كَانَتْ لَكُمْ أُسْوَةٌ حَسَنَةٌ فِىٓ إِبْرَٰهِيمَ وَٱلَّذِينَ مَعَهُۥٓ إِذْ قَالُوا۟ لِقَوْمِهِمْ إِنَّا بُرَءَٰٓؤُا۟ مِنكُمْ وَمِمَّا تَعْبُدُونَ مِن دُونِ ٱللَّـهِ كَفَرْنَا بِكُمْ وَبَدَا بَيْنَنَا وَبَيْنَكُمُ ٱلْعَدَٰوَةُ وَٱلْبَغْضَآءُ أَبَدًا حَتَّىٰ تُؤْمِنُوا۟ بِٱللَّـهِ وَحْدَهُۥٓ إِلَّا قَوْلَ إِبْرَٰهِيمَ لِأَبِيهِ لَأَسْتَغْفِرَنَّ لَكَ وَمَآ أَمْلِكُ لَكَ مِنَ ٱللَّـهِ مِن شَىْءٍ رَّبَّنَا عَلَيْكَ تَوَكَّلْنَا وَإِلَيْكَ أَنَبْنَا وَإِلَيْكَ ٱلْمَصِيرُ

qad kānat la-kum uswatun ḥasanatun fī ibrāhīma wa-lladhīna maʿahu idh qālū liqawmihim innā buraʾāʾu minkum wa-mimmā taʿbudūna min dūni allāhi kafarnā bikum wa-badā baynanā wa-baynakumu l-ʿadāwatu wa-l-baghḍāʾu abadan ḥattā tūʾminū billāhi waḥdahu illā qawla ibrāhīma li-abīhi la-astaghfiranna la-ka wa-mā amliku la-ka mina allāhi min shayʾin rabbanā ʿalayka tawakkalnā wa-ilayka anabnā wa-ilayka l-maṣīru

There is for you an excellent example (to follow) in Abraham and those with him, when they said to their people: "We are clear of you and of whatever ye worship besides Allah: we have rejected you, and there has arisen, between us and you, enmity and hatred for ever,- unless ye believe in Allah and Him alone": But not when Abraham said to his father: "I will pray for forgiveness for thee, though I have no power (to get) aught on thy behalf from Allah." (They prayed): "Our Lord! in Thee do we trust, and to Thee do we turn in repentance: to Thee is (our) Final Goal.

Sura al-Mumtaḥanah 60:12

يَٰٓأَيُّهَا ٱلنَّبِىُّ إِذَا جَآءَكَ ٱلْمُؤْمِنَٰتُ يُبَايِعْنَكَ عَلَىٰٓ أَن لَّا يُشْرِكْنَ بِٱللَّـهِ شَيْـًٔا وَلَا يَسْرِقْنَ وَلَا يَزْنِينَ وَلَا يَقْتُلْنَ أَوْلَٰدَهُنَّ وَلَا يَأْتِينَ بِبُهْتَٰنٍ يَفْتَرِينَهُۥ بَيْنَ أَيْدِيهِنَّ وَأَرْجُلِهِنَّ وَلَا يَعْصِينَكَ فِى مَعْرُوفٍ فَبَايِعْهُنَّ وَٱسْتَغْفِرْ لَهُنَّ ٱللَّـهَ إِنَّ ٱللَّـهَ غَفُورٌ رَّحِيمٌ

yā-ayyuhā l-nabiyyu idhā jāʾaka l-muʾminātu yubāyiʿnaka ʿala an lā yushrikna billāhi shayʾan wa-lā yasriqna wa-lā yaznīna wa-lā yaqtulna awlādahunna wa-lā yaʾtīna bi-buhtānin yaftarīnahu bayna aydīhinna wa-arjulihinna wa-lā yaʿṣīnaka fī maʿrūfin fa-bāyiʿhunna wa-istaghfir la-hunna allāha inna allāha ghafūrun raḥīmun

O Prophet! When believing women come to thee to take the oath of fealty to thee, that they will not associate in worship any other thing whatever with Allah, that they will not steal, that they will not commit adultery (or fornication), that they will not kill their children, that they will not utter slander, intentionally forging falsehood, and that they will not disobey thee in any just matter,- then do thou receive their fealty, and pray to Allah for the forgiveness (of their sins): for Allah is Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful.

Sura al-Munāfiqūn 63:5

وَإِذَا قِيلَ لَهُمْ تَعَالَوْا۟ يَسْتَغْفِرْ لَكُمْ رَسُولُ ٱللَّـهِ لَوَّوْا۟ رُءُوسَهُمْ وَرَأَيْتَهُمْ يَصُدُّونَ وَهُم مُّسْتَكْبِرُونَ

wa-idhā qīla lahum taʿālaw yastaghfir la-kum rasūlu allāhi lawwaw ruʾūsahum wa-raʾaytahum yaṣuddūna wa-hum mustakbirūna

And when it is said to them, "Come, the Messenger of Allah will pray for your forgiveness", they turn aside their heads, and thou wouldst see them turning away their faces in arrogance.

Sura al-Munāfiqūn 63:6

سَوَآءٌ عَلَيْهِمْ أَسْتَغْفَرْتَ لَهُمْ أَمْ لَمْ تَسْتَغْفِرْ لَهُمْ لَن يَغْفِرَ ٱللَّـهُ لَهُمْ إِنَّ ٱللَّـهَ لَا يَهْدِى ٱلْقَوْمَ ٱلْفَٰسِقِينَ

sawāʾun ʿalayhim a-staghfarta lahum am lam tastaghfir lahum lan yaghfira allāhu lahum inna allāha lā yahdī l-qawma l-fāsiqīna

It is equal to them whether thou pray for their forgiveness or not. Allah will not forgive them. Truly Allah guides not rebellious transgressors.

Sura Nūḥ 71:10

فَقُلْتُ ٱسْتَغْفِرُوا۟ رَبَّكُمْ إِنَّهُۥ كَانَ غَفَّارًا

fa-qultu istaghfirū rabbakum innahu kāna ghaffāran

"Saying, 'Ask forgiveness from your Lord; for He is Oft-Forgiving;

Sura al-Muzzammil 73:20

إِنَّ رَبَّكَ يَعْلَمُ أَنَّكَ تَقُومُ أَدْنَىٰ مِن ثُلُثَىِ ٱلَّيْلِ وَنِصْفَهُۥ وَثُلُثَهُۥ وَطَآئِفَةٌ مِّنَ ٱلَّذِينَ مَعَكَ وَٱللَّـهُ يُقَدِّرُ ٱلَّيْلَ وَٱلنَّهَارَ عَلِمَ أَن لَّن تُحْصُوهُ فَتَابَ عَلَيْكُمْ فَٱقْرَءُوا۟ مَا تَيَسَّرَ مِنَ ٱلْقُرْءَانِ عَلِمَ أَن سَيَكُونُ مِنكُم مَّرْضَىٰ وَءَاخَرُونَ يَضْرِبُونَ فِى ٱلْأَرْضِ يَبْتَغُونَ مِن فَضْلِ ٱللَّـهِ وَءَاخَرُونَ يُقَٰتِلُونَ فِى سَبِيلِ ٱللَّـهِ فَٱقْرَءُوا۟ مَا تَيَسَّرَ مِنْهُ وَأَقِيمُوا۟ ٱلصَّلَوٰةَ وَءَاتُوا۟ ٱلزَّكَوٰةَ وَأَقْرِضُوا۟ ٱللَّـهَ قَرْضًا حَسَنًا وَمَا تُقَدِّمُوا۟ لِأَنفُسِكُم مِّنْ خَيْرٍ تَجِدُوهُ عِندَ ٱللَّـهِ هُوَ خَيْرًا وَأَعْظَمَ أَجْرًا وَٱسْتَغْفِرُوا۟ ٱللَّـهَ إِنَّ ٱللَّـهَ غَفُورٌ رَّحِيمٌۢ

inna rabbaka yaʿlamu annaka taqūmu adnā min thuluthai l-layli wa-niṣfahu wa-thuluthahu wa-ṭāifatun mina lladhīna maʿaka wallāhu yuqaddiru l-layla wa-l-nahāra ʿalima an lan tuḥṣūhu fatāba ʿalaykum fa-iqraʾū mā tayassara mina l-qurʾāni ʿalima an sa-yakūnu minkum marḍā wa-ākharūna yaḍribūna fī l-arḍi yabtaghūna min faḍli allāhi wa-ākharūna yuqātilūna fī sabīli allāhi fa-iqraʾū mā tayassara minhu wa-aqīmū l-ṣalāta wa-ātū l-zakāta wa-aqriḍū allāha qarḍan ḥasanan wa-mā tuqaddimū li-anfusikum min khayrin tajidūhu ʿinda allāhi huwa khayran wa-aʿẓama ajran wa-astaghfirū allāha inna allāha ghafūrun rraḥīmun

Thy Lord doth know that thou standest forth (to prayer) nigh two-thirds of the night, or half the night, or a third of the night, and so doth a party of those with thee. But Allah doth appoint night and day in due measure He knoweth that ye are unable to keep count thereof. So He hath turned to you (in mercy): read ye, therefore, of the Qur'an as much as may be easy for you. He knoweth that there may be (some) among you in ill-health; others travelling through the land, seeking of Allah's bounty; yet others fighting in Allah's Cause, read ye, therefore, as much of the Qur'an as may be easy (for you); and establish regular Prayer and give regular Charity; and loan to Allah a Beautiful Loan. And whatever good ye send forth for your souls ye shall find it in Allah's Presence,- yea, better and greater, in Reward and seek ye the Grace of Allah: for Allah is Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful.

Sura al-Naṣr 110:3

فَسَبِّحْ بِحَمْدِ رَبِّكَ وَٱسْتَغْفِرْهُ إِنَّهُۥ كَانَ تَوَّابًۢا

fa-sabbiḥ bi-ḥamdi rabbika wa-istaghfirhu innahu kāna tawwāban

Celebrate the praises of thy Lord, and pray for His Forgiveness: For He is Oft-Returning (in Grace and Mercy).
