Sura Āl-ʿImrān 3:24

ذَٰلِكَ بِأَنَّهُمْ قَالُوا۟ لَن تَمَسَّنَا ٱلنَّارُ إِلَّآ أَيَّامًا مَّعْدُودَٰتٍ وَغَرَّهُمْ فِى دِينِهِم مَّا كَانُوا۟ يَفْتَرُونَ

dhālika bi-annahum qālū lan tamassanā l-nāru illā ayyāman maʿdūdātin wagharrahum fī dīnihim mā kānū yaftarūna

This because they say: "The Fire shall not touch us but for a few numbered days": For their forgeries deceive them as to their own religion.

Sura Āl-ʿImrān 3:94

فَمَنِ ٱفْتَرَىٰ عَلَى ٱللَّـهِ ٱلْكَذِبَ مِنۢ بَعْدِ ذَٰلِكَ فَأُو۟لَٰٓئِكَ هُمُ ٱلظَّٰلِمُونَ

fa-mani iftarā ʿalā allāhi l-kadhiba min baʿdi dhālika fa-ūlāʾika humu l-ẓālimūna

If any, after this, invent a lie and attribute it to Allah, they are indeed unjust wrong-doers.

Sura al-Nisāʾ 4:48

إِنَّ ٱللَّـهَ لَا يَغْفِرُ أَن يُشْرَكَ بِهِۦ وَيَغْفِرُ مَا دُونَ ذَٰلِكَ لِمَن يَشَآءُ وَمَن يُشْرِكْ بِٱللَّـهِ فَقَدِ ٱفْتَرَىٰٓ إِثْمًا عَظِيمًا

inna allāha lā yaghfiru an yushraka bihi wayaghfiru mā dūna dhālika li-man yashāʾu wa-man yushrik billāhi fa-qadi iftarā ithman ʿaẓīman

Allah forgiveth not that partners should be set up with Him; but He forgiveth anything else, to whom He pleaseth; to set up partners with Allah is to devise a sin Most heinous indeed.

Sura al-Nisāʾ 4:50

ٱنظُرْ كَيْفَ يَفْتَرُونَ عَلَى ٱللَّـهِ ٱلْكَذِبَ وَكَفَىٰ بِهِۦٓ إِثْمًا مُّبِينًا

inẓur kayfa yaftarūna ʿalā allāhi l-kadhiba wa-kafā bihi ithman mubīnan

Behold! how they invent a lie against Allah! but that by itself is a manifest sin!

Sura al-Māʾidah 5:103

مَا جَعَلَ ٱللَّـهُ مِنۢ بَحِيرَةٍ وَلَا سَآئِبَةٍ وَلَا وَصِيلَةٍ وَلَا حَامٍ وَلَٰكِنَّ ٱلَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا۟ يَفْتَرُونَ عَلَى ٱللَّـهِ ٱلْكَذِبَ وَأَكْثَرُهُمْ لَا يَعْقِلُونَ

mā jaʿala allāhu min baḥīratin wa-lā sāʾibatin wa-lā waṣīlatin wa-lā ḥāmin wa-lākinna lladhīna kafarū yaftarūna ʿalā allāhi l-kadhiba waaktharuhum lā yaʿqilūna

It was not Allah who instituted (superstitions like those of) a slit-ear she-camel, or a she-camel let loose for free pasture, or idol sacrifices for twin-births in animals, or stallion-camels freed from work: It is blasphemers who invent a lie against Allah; but most of them lack wisdom.

Sura al-Anʿām 6:21

وَمَنْ أَظْلَمُ مِمَّنِ ٱفْتَرَىٰ عَلَى ٱللَّـهِ كَذِبًا أَوْ كَذَّبَ بِـَٔايَٰتِهِۦٓ إِنَّهُۥ لَا يُفْلِحُ ٱلظَّٰلِمُونَ

wa-man aẓlamu mimmani iftarā ʿalā allāhi kadhiban aw kadhdhaba bi-āyātihi innahu lā yufliḥu l-ẓālimūna

Who doth more wrong than he who inventeth a lie against Allah or rejecteth His signs? But verily the wrong-doers never shall prosper.

Sura al-Anʿām 6:24

ٱنظُرْ كَيْفَ كَذَبُوا۟ عَلَىٰٓ أَنفُسِهِمْ وَضَلَّ عَنْهُم مَّا كَانُوا۟ يَفْتَرُونَ

inẓur kayfa kadhabū ʿala anfusihim wa-ḍalla ʿanhum mā kānū yaftarūna

Behold! how they lie against their own souls! But the (lie) which they invented will leave them in the lurch.

Sura al-Anʿām 6:93

وَمَنْ أَظْلَمُ مِمَّنِ ٱفْتَرَىٰ عَلَى ٱللَّـهِ كَذِبًا أَوْ قَالَ أُوحِىَ إِلَىَّ وَلَمْ يُوحَ إِلَيْهِ شَىْءٌ وَمَن قَالَ سَأُنزِلُ مِثْلَ مَآ أَنزَلَ ٱللَّـهُ وَلَوْ تَرَىٰٓ إِذِ ٱلظَّٰلِمُونَ فِى غَمَرَٰتِ ٱلْمَوْتِ وَٱلْمَلَٰٓئِكَةُ بَاسِطُوٓا۟ أَيْدِيهِمْ أَخْرِجُوٓا۟ أَنفُسَكُمُ ٱلْيَوْمَ تُجْزَوْنَ عَذَابَ ٱلْهُونِ بِمَا كُنتُمْ تَقُولُونَ عَلَى ٱللَّـهِ غَيْرَ ٱلْحَقِّ وَكُنتُمْ عَنْ ءَايَٰتِهِۦ تَسْتَكْبِرُونَ

wa-man aẓlamu mimmani iftarā ʿalā allāhi kadhiban aw qalā ūḥiya ilayya wa-lam yūḥa ilayhi shayʾun wa-man qalā sa-unzilu mithla mā anzala allāhu wa-law tara idhi l-ẓālimūna fī ghamarāti l-mawti wa-l-malāʾikatu bāsiṭū aydīhim akhrijū anfusakumu l-yawma tujzawna ʿadhāba l-hūni bi-mā kuntum taqūlūna ʿalā allāhi ghayra l-ḥaqqi wa-kuntum ʿan āyātihi tastakbirūna

Who can be more wicked than one who inventeth a lie against Allah, or saith, "I have received inspiration," when he hath received none, or (again) who saith, "I can reveal the like of what Allah hath revealed"? If thou couldst but see how the wicked (do fare) in the flood of confusion at death! - the angels stretch forth their hands, (saying),"Yield up your souls: this day shall ye receive your reward,- a penalty of shame, for that ye used to tell lies against Allah, and scornfully to reject of His signs!"

Sura al-Anʿām 6:112

وَكَذَٰلِكَ جَعَلْنَا لِكُلِّ نَبِىٍّ عَدُوًّا شَيَٰطِينَ ٱلْإِنسِ وَٱلْجِنِّ يُوحِى بَعْضُهُمْ إِلَىٰ بَعْضٍ زُخْرُفَ ٱلْقَوْلِ غُرُورًا وَلَوْ شَآءَ رَبُّكَ مَا فَعَلُوهُ فَذَرْهُمْ وَمَا يَفْتَرُونَ

wa-ka-dhālika jaʿalnā li-kulli nabiyyin ʿadūwan shayāṭīna l-insi wa-l-jinni yūḥī baʿḍuhum ilā baʿḍin zukhrufa l-qawli ghurūran wa-law shāʾa rabbuka mā faʿalūhu fa-dharhum wa-mā yaftarūna

Likewise did We make for every Messenger an enemy,- evil ones among men and jinns, inspiring each other with flowery discourses by way of deception. If thy Lord had so planned, they would not have done it: so leave them and their inventions alone.

Sura al-Anʿām 6:137

وَكَذَٰلِكَ زَيَّنَ لِكَثِيرٍ مِّنَ ٱلْمُشْرِكِينَ قَتْلَ أَوْلَٰدِهِمْ شُرَكَآؤُهُمْ لِيُرْدُوهُمْ وَلِيَلْبِسُوا۟ عَلَيْهِمْ دِينَهُمْ وَلَوْ شَآءَ ٱللَّـهُ مَا فَعَلُوهُ فَذَرْهُمْ وَمَا يَفْتَرُونَ

wa-ka-dhālika zayyana likathīrin mina l-mushrikīna qatla awlādihim shurakāʾuhum li-yurdūhum wa-li-yalbisū ʿalayhim dīnahum wa-law shāʾa allāhu mā faʿalūhu fa-dharhum wa-mā yaftarūna

Even so, in the eyes of most of the pagans, their "partners" made alluring the slaughter of their children, in order to lead them to their own destruction, and cause confusion in their religion. If Allah had willed, they would not have done so: But leave alone them and their inventions.

Sura al-Anʿām 6:138

وَقَالُوا۟ هَٰذِهِۦٓ أَنْعَٰمٌ وَحَرْثٌ حِجْرٌ لَّا يَطْعَمُهَآ إِلَّا مَن نَّشَآءُ بِزَعْمِهِمْ وَأَنْعَٰمٌ حُرِّمَتْ ظُهُورُهَا وَأَنْعَٰمٌ لَّا يَذْكُرُونَ ٱسْمَ ٱللَّـهِ عَلَيْهَا ٱفْتِرَآءً عَلَيْهِ سَيَجْزِيهِم بِمَا كَانُوا۟ يَفْتَرُونَ

wa-qālū hādhihi anʿāmun wa-ḥarthun ḥijrun lā yaṭʿamuhā illā man nashāʾu bi-zaʿmihim wa-anʿāmun ḥurrimat ẓuhūruhā wa-anʿāmun lā yadhkurūna isma allāhi ʿalayhā iftirāʾan ʿalayhi sa-yajzīhim bi-mā kānū yaftarūna

And they say that such and such cattle and crops are taboo, and none should eat of them except those whom - so they say - We wish; further, there are cattle forbidden to yoke or burden, and cattle on which, (at slaughter), the name of Allah is not pronounced; - inventions against Allah's name: soon will He requite them for their inventions.

Sura al-Anʿām 6:144

وَمِنَ ٱلْإِبِلِ ٱثْنَيْنِ وَمِنَ ٱلْبَقَرِ ٱثْنَيْنِ قُلْ ءَآلذَّكَرَيْنِ حَرَّمَ أَمِ ٱلْأُنثَيَيْنِ أَمَّا ٱشْتَمَلَتْ عَلَيْهِ أَرْحَامُ ٱلْأُنثَيَيْنِ أَمْ كُنتُمْ شُهَدَآءَ إِذْ وَصَّىٰكُمُ ٱللَّـهُ بِهَٰذَا فَمَنْ أَظْلَمُ مِمَّنِ ٱفْتَرَىٰ عَلَى ٱللَّـهِ كَذِبًا لِّيُضِلَّ ٱلنَّاسَ بِغَيْرِ عِلْمٍ إِنَّ ٱللَّـهَ لَا يَهْدِى ٱلْقَوْمَ ٱلظَّٰلِمِينَ

wa-mina l-ibili ithnayni wa-mina l-baqari ithnayni qul ā-l-dhakarayni ḥarrama ami l-unthayayni a-mā ishtamalat ʿalayhi arḥāmu l-unthayayni am kuntum shuhadāʾa idh waṣṣakumu allāhu bi-hādhā fa-man aẓlamu mimmani iftarā ʿalā allāhi kadhiban li-yuḍilla l-nāsa bi-ghayri ʿilmin inna allāha lā yahdī l-qawma l-ẓālimīna

Of camels a pair, and oxen a pair; say, hath He forbidden the two males, or the two females, or (the young) which the wombs of the two females enclose? - Were ye present when Allah ordered you such a thing? But who doth more wrong than one who invents a lie against Allah, to lead astray men without knowledge? For Allah guideth not people who do wrong.

Sura al-Aʿrāf 7:37

فَمَنْ أَظْلَمُ مِمَّنِ ٱفْتَرَىٰ عَلَى ٱللَّـهِ كَذِبًا أَوْ كَذَّبَ بِـَٔايَٰتِهِۦٓ أُو۟لَٰٓئِكَ يَنَالُهُمْ نَصِيبُهُم مِّنَ ٱلْكِتَٰبِ حَتَّىٰٓ إِذَا جَآءَتْهُمْ رُسُلُنَا يَتَوَفَّوْنَهُمْ قَالُوٓا۟ أَيْنَ مَا كُنتُمْ تَدْعُونَ مِن دُونِ ٱللَّـهِ قَالُوا۟ ضَلُّوا۟ عَنَّا وَشَهِدُوا۟ عَلَىٰٓ أَنفُسِهِمْ أَنَّهُمْ كَانُوا۟ كَٰفِرِينَ

fa-man aẓlamu mimmani iftarā ʿalā allāhi kadhiban aw kadhdhaba bi-āyātihi ulāʾika yanāluhum naṣībuhum mina l-kitābi ḥatta idhā jāʾathum rusulunā yatawaffawnahum qālū ayna mā kuntum tadʿūna min dūni allāhi qālū ḍallū ʿannā wa-shahidū ʿala anfusihim annahum kānū kāfirīna

Who is more unjust than one who invents a lie against Allah or rejects His Signs? For such, their portion appointed must reach them from the Book (of decrees): until, when our messengers (of death) arrive and take their souls, they say: "Where are the things that ye used to invoke besides Allah?" They will reply, "They have left us in the lurch," And they will bear witness against themselves, that they had rejected Allah.

Sura al-Aʿrāf 7:53

هَلْ يَنظُرُونَ إِلَّا تَأْوِيلَهُۥ يَوْمَ يَأْتِى تَأْوِيلُهُۥ يَقُولُ ٱلَّذِينَ نَسُوهُ مِن قَبْلُ قَدْ جَآءَتْ رُسُلُ رَبِّنَا بِٱلْحَقِّ فَهَل لَّنَا مِن شُفَعَآءَ فَيَشْفَعُوا۟ لَنَآ أَوْ نُرَدُّ فَنَعْمَلَ غَيْرَ ٱلَّذِى كُنَّا نَعْمَلُ قَدْ خَسِرُوٓا۟ أَنفُسَهُمْ وَضَلَّ عَنْهُم مَّا كَانُوا۟ يَفْتَرُونَ

hal yanẓurūna illā taʾwīlahu yawma yaʾtī taʾwīluhu yaqūlu lladhīna nasūhu min qablu qad jāʾat rusulu rabbinā bil-ḥaqqi fahal lanā min shufaʿāʾa fayashfaʿū lanā aw nuraddu fanaʿmala ghayra alladhī kunnā naʿmalu qad khasirū anfusahum wa-ḍalla ʿanhum mā kānū yaftarūna

Do they just wait for the final fulfilment of the event? On the day the event is finally fulfilled, those who disregarded it before will say: "The messengers of our Lord did indeed bring true (tidings). Have we no intercessors now to intercede on our behalf? Or could we be sent back? then should we behave differently from our behaviour in the past." In fact they will have lost their souls, and the things they invented will leave them in the lurch.

Sura al-Aʿrāf 7:89

قَدِ ٱفْتَرَيْنَا عَلَى ٱللَّـهِ كَذِبًا إِنْ عُدْنَا فِى مِلَّتِكُم بَعْدَ إِذْ نَجَّىٰنَا ٱللَّـهُ مِنْهَا وَمَا يَكُونُ لَنَآ أَن نَّعُودَ فِيهَآ إِلَّآ أَن يَشَآءَ ٱللَّـهُ رَبُّنَا وَسِعَ رَبُّنَا كُلَّ شَىْءٍ عِلْمًا عَلَى ٱللَّـهِ تَوَكَّلْنَا رَبَّنَا ٱفْتَحْ بَيْنَنَا وَبَيْنَ قَوْمِنَا بِٱلْحَقِّ وَأَنتَ خَيْرُ ٱلْفَٰتِحِينَ

qadi iftaraynā ʿalā allāhi kadhiban in ʿudnā fī millatikum baʿda idh najjanā allāhu minhā wa-mā yakūnu lanā an naʿūda fīhā illā an yashāʾa allāhu rabbunā wasiʿa rabbunā kulla shayʾin ʿilman ʿalā allāhi tawakkalnā rabbanā iftaḥ baynanā wa-bayna qawminā bil-ḥaqqi wa-anta khayru l-fātiḥīna

"We should indeed invent a lie against Allah, if we returned to your ways after Allah hath rescued us therefrom; nor could we by any manner of means return thereto unless it be as in the will and plan of Allah, Our Lord. Our Lord can reach out to the utmost recesses of things by His knowledge. In the Allah is our trust. our Lord! decide Thou between us and our people in truth, for Thou art the best to decide."

Sura Yūnus 10:17

فَمَنْ أَظْلَمُ مِمَّنِ ٱفْتَرَىٰ عَلَى ٱللَّـهِ كَذِبًا أَوْ كَذَّبَ بِـَٔايَٰتِهِۦٓ إِنَّهُۥ لَا يُفْلِحُ ٱلْمُجْرِمُونَ

fa-man aẓlamu mimmani iftarā ʿalā allāhi kadhiban aw kadhdhaba bi-āyātihi innahu lā yufliḥu l-mujrimūna

Who doth more wrong than such as forge a lie against Allah, or deny His Signs? But never will prosper those who sin.

Sura Yūnus 10:30

هُنَالِكَ تَبْلُوا۟ كُلُّ نَفْسٍ مَّآ أَسْلَفَتْ وَرُدُّوٓا۟ إِلَى ٱللَّـهِ مَوْلَىٰهُمُ ٱلْحَقِّ وَضَلَّ عَنْهُم مَّا كَانُوا۟ يَفْتَرُونَ

hunālika tablū kullu nafsin mā aslafat wa-ruddū ilā allāhi mawlahumu l-ḥaqqi wa-ḍalla ʿanhum mā kānū yaftarūna

There will every soul prove (the fruits of) the deeds it sent before: they will be brought back to Allah their rightful Lord, and their invented falsehoods will leave them in the lurch.

Sura Yūnus 10:37

وَمَا كَانَ هَٰذَا ٱلْقُرْءَانُ أَن يُفْتَرَىٰ مِن دُونِ ٱللَّـهِ وَلَٰكِن تَصْدِيقَ ٱلَّذِى بَيْنَ يَدَيْهِ وَتَفْصِيلَ ٱلْكِتَٰبِ لَا رَيْبَ فِيهِ مِن رَّبِّ ٱلْعَٰلَمِينَ

wa-mā kāna hādhā l-qurʾānu an yuftara min dūni allāhi wa-lākin taṣdīqa alladhī bayna yadayhi wa-tafṣīla l-kitābi lā rayba fīhi min rrabbi l-ʿālamīna

This Qur'an is not such as can be produced by other than Allah; on the contrary it is a confirmation of (revelations) that went before it, and a fuller explanation of the Book - wherein there is no doubt - from the Lord of the worlds.

Sura Yūnus 10:38

أَمْ يَقُولُونَ ٱفْتَرَىٰهُ قُلْ فَأْتُوا۟ بِسُورَةٍ مِّثْلِهِۦ وَٱدْعُوا۟ مَنِ ٱسْتَطَعْتُم مِّن دُونِ ٱللَّـهِ إِن كُنتُمْ صَٰدِقِينَ

am yaqūlūna iftarāhu qul fa-ʾtū bi-sūratin mithlihi wa-idʿū mani istaṭaʿtum min dūni allāhi in kuntum ṣādiqīna

Or do they say, "He forged it"? say: "Bring then a Sura like unto it, and call (to your aid) anyone you can besides Allah, if it be ye speak the truth!"

Sura Yūnus 10:59

قُلْ أَرَءَيْتُم مَّآ أَنزَلَ ٱللَّـهُ لَكُم مِّن رِّزْقٍ فَجَعَلْتُم مِّنْهُ حَرَامًا وَحَلَٰلًا قُلْ ءَآللَّەُ أَذِنَ لَكُمْ أَمْ عَلَى ٱللَّـهِ تَفْتَرُونَ

qul araaytum mā anzala allāhu la-kum min rrizqin fa-jaʿaltum minhu ḥarāman wa-ḥalālan qul ā-llahu adhina la-kum am ʿalā allāhi taftarūna

Say: "See ye what things Allah hath sent down to you for sustenance? Yet ye hold forbidden some things thereof and (some things) lawful." Say: "Hath Allah indeed permitted you, or do ye invent (things) to attribute to Allah?"

Sura Yūnus 10:60

وَمَا ظَنُّ ٱلَّذِينَ يَفْتَرُونَ عَلَى ٱللَّـهِ ٱلْكَذِبَ يَوْمَ ٱلْقِيَٰمَةِ إِنَّ ٱللَّـهَ لَذُو فَضْلٍ عَلَى ٱلنَّاسِ وَلَٰكِنَّ أَكْثَرَهُمْ لَا يَشْكُرُونَ

wa-mā ẓannu lladhīna yaftarūna ʿalā allāhi l-kadhiba yawma l-qiyāmati inna allāha la-dhū faḍlin ʿalā l-nāsi wa-lākinna aktharahum lā yashkurūna

And what think those who invent lies against Allah, of the Day of Judgment? Verily Allah is full of bounty to mankind, but most of them are ungrateful.

Sura Yūnus 10:69

قُلْ إِنَّ ٱلَّذِينَ يَفْتَرُونَ عَلَى ٱللَّـهِ ٱلْكَذِبَ لَا يُفْلِحُونَ

qul inna lladhīna yaftarūna ʿalā allāhi l-kadhiba lā yufliḥūna

Say: "Those who invent a lie against Allah will never prosper."

Sura Hūd 11:13

أَمْ يَقُولُونَ ٱفْتَرَىٰهُ قُلْ فَأْتُوا۟ بِعَشْرِ سُوَرٍ مِّثْلِهِۦ مُفْتَرَيَٰتٍ وَٱدْعُوا۟ مَنِ ٱسْتَطَعْتُم مِّن دُونِ ٱللَّـهِ إِن كُنتُمْ صَٰدِقِينَ

am yaqūlūna iftarāhu qul fa-ʾtū bi-ʿashri suwarin mithlihi muftarayātin wa-idʿū mani istaṭaʿtum min dūni allāhi in kuntum ṣādiqīna

Or they may say, "He forged it," Say, "Bring ye then ten suras forged, like unto it, and call (to your aid) whomsoever ye can, other than Allah!- If ye speak the truth!

Sura Hūd 11:18

وَمَنْ أَظْلَمُ مِمَّنِ ٱفْتَرَىٰ عَلَى ٱللَّـهِ كَذِبًا أُو۟لَٰٓئِكَ يُعْرَضُونَ عَلَىٰ رَبِّهِمْ وَيَقُولُ ٱلْأَشْهَٰدُ هَٰٓؤُلَآءِ ٱلَّذِينَ كَذَبُوا۟ عَلَىٰ رَبِّهِمْ أَلَا لَعْنَةُ ٱللَّـهِ عَلَى ٱلظَّٰلِمِينَ

wa-man aẓlamu mimmani iftarā ʿalā allāhi kadhiban ulāʾika yuʿraḍūna ʿalā rabbihim wa-yaqūlu l-ashhādu hāʾulāʾi lladhīna kadhabū ʿalā rabbihim āla laʿnatu allāhi ʿalā l-ẓālimīna

Who doth more wrong than those who invent a life against Allah? They will be turned back to the presence of their Lord, and the witnesses will say, "These are the ones who lied against their Lord! Behold! the Curse of Allah is on those who do wrong!-

Sura Hūd 11:21

أُو۟لَٰٓئِكَ ٱلَّذِينَ خَسِرُوٓا۟ أَنفُسَهُمْ وَضَلَّ عَنْهُم مَّا كَانُوا۟ يَفْتَرُونَ

ulāʾika lladhīna khasirū anfusahum wa-ḍalla ʿanhum mā kānū yaftarūna

They are the ones who have lost their own souls: and the (fancies) they invented have left them in the lurch!

Sura Hūd 11:35

أَمْ يَقُولُونَ ٱفْتَرَىٰهُ قُلْ إِنِ ٱفْتَرَيْتُهُۥ فَعَلَىَّ إِجْرَامِى وَأَنَا۠ بَرِىٓءٌ مِّمَّا تُجْرِمُونَ

am yaqūlūna iftarāhu qul ini iftaraytuhu faʿalaya ijrāmī wa-anā barīʾun mimmā tujrimūna

Or do they say, "He has forged it"? Say: "If I had forged it, on me were my sin! and I am free of the sins of which ye are guilty!

Sura Yūsuf 12:111

لَقَدْ كَانَ فِى قَصَصِهِمْ عِبْرَةٌ لِّأُو۟لِى ٱلْأَلْبَٰبِ مَا كَانَ حَدِيثًا يُفْتَرَىٰ وَلَٰكِن تَصْدِيقَ ٱلَّذِى بَيْنَ يَدَيْهِ وَتَفْصِيلَ كُلِّ شَىْءٍ وَهُدًى وَرَحْمَةً لِّقَوْمٍ يُؤْمِنُونَ

la-qad kāna fī qaṣaṣihim ʿibratun li-lūlī l-albābi mā kāna ḥadīthan yuftara wa-lākin taṣdīqa alladhī bayna yadayhi wa-tafṣīla kulli shayʾin wa-hudan wa-raḥmatan li-qawmin yuʾminūna

There is, in their stories, instruction for men endued with understanding. It is not a tale invented, but a confirmation of what went before it,- a detailed exposition of all things, and a guide and a mercy to any such as believe.

Sura al-Naḥl 16:56

وَيَجْعَلُونَ لِمَا لَا يَعْلَمُونَ نَصِيبًا مِّمَّا رَزَقْنَٰهُمْ تَٱللَّەِ لَتُسْـَٔلُنَّ عَمَّا كُنتُمْ تَفْتَرُونَ

wa-yajʿalūna li-mā lā yaʿlamūna naṣīban mimmā razaqnāhum ta-allahi la-tusʾalunna ʿammā kuntum taftarūna

And they (even) assign, to things they do not know, a portion out of that which We have bestowed for their sustenance! By Allah, ye shall certainly be called to account for your false inventions.

Sura al-Naḥl 16:87

وَأَلْقَوْا۟ إِلَى ٱللَّـهِ يَوْمَئِذٍ ٱلسَّلَمَ وَضَلَّ عَنْهُم مَّا كَانُوا۟ يَفْتَرُونَ

wa-alqaw ilā allāhi yawmaʾidhin l-salama wa-ḍalla ʿanhum mā kānū yaftarūna

That Day shall they (openly) show (their) submission to Allah; and all their inventions shall leave them in the lurch.

Sura al-Naḥl 16:105

إِنَّمَا يَفْتَرِى ٱلْكَذِبَ ٱلَّذِينَ لَا يُؤْمِنُونَ بِـَٔايَٰتِ ٱللَّـهِ وَأُو۟لَٰٓئِكَ هُمُ ٱلْكَٰذِبُونَ

innamā yaftarī l-kadhiba lladhīna lā yuʾminūna bi-āyāti allāhi wa-ūlāʾika humu l-kādhibūna

It is those who believe not in the Signs of Allah, that forge falsehood: it is they who lie!

Sura al-Naḥl 16:116

وَلَا تَقُولُوا۟ لِمَا تَصِفُ أَلْسِنَتُكُمُ ٱلْكَذِبَ هَٰذَا حَلَٰلٌ وَهَٰذَا حَرَامٌ لِّتَفْتَرُوا۟ عَلَى ٱللَّـهِ ٱلْكَذِبَ إِنَّ ٱلَّذِينَ يَفْتَرُونَ عَلَى ٱللَّـهِ ٱلْكَذِبَ لَا يُفْلِحُونَ

wa-lā taqūlū li-mā taṣifu alsinatukumu l-kadhiba hādhā ḥalālun wa-hādhā ḥarāmun li-taftarū ʿalā allāhi l-kadhiba inna lladhīna yaftarūna ʿalā allāhi l-kadhiba lā yufliḥūna

But say not - for any false thing that your tongues may put forth,- "This is lawful, and this is forbidden," so as to ascribe false things to Allah. For those who ascribe false things to Allah, will never prosper.

Sura al-Isrāʾ 17:73

وَإِن كَادُوا۟ لَيَفْتِنُونَكَ عَنِ ٱلَّذِىٓ أَوْحَيْنَآ إِلَيْكَ لِتَفْتَرِىَ عَلَيْنَا غَيْرَهُۥ وَإِذًا لَّٱتَّخَذُوكَ خَلِيلًا

wa-in kādū la-yaftinūnaka ʿani alladhī awḥaynā ilayka li-taftariya ʿalaynā ghayrahu waidhan la-ittakhadhūka khalīlan

And their purpose was to tempt thee away from that which We had revealed unto thee, to substitute in our name something quite different; (in that case), behold! they would certainly have made thee (their) friend!

Sura al-Kahf 18:15

هَٰٓؤُلَآءِ قَوْمُنَا ٱتَّخَذُوا۟ مِن دُونِهِۦٓ ءَالِهَةً لَّوْلَا يَأْتُونَ عَلَيْهِم بِسُلْطَٰنٍۭ بَيِّنٍ فَمَنْ أَظْلَمُ مِمَّنِ ٱفْتَرَىٰ عَلَى ٱللَّـهِ كَذِبًا

hāʾulāʾi qawmunā ittakhadhū min dūnihi ālihatan lawlā yaʾtūna ʿalayhim bi-sulṭānin bayyinin fa-man aẓlamu mimmani iftarā ʿalā allāhi kadhiban

"These our people have taken for worship gods other than Him: why do they not bring forward an authority clear (and convincing) for what they do? Who doth more wrong than such as invent a falsehood against Allah?

Sura Ṭā Hā 20:61

قَالَ لَهُم مُّوسَىٰ وَيْلَكُمْ لَا تَفْتَرُوا۟ عَلَى ٱللَّـهِ كَذِبًا فَيُسْحِتَكُم بِعَذَابٍ وَقَدْ خَابَ مَنِ ٱفْتَرَىٰ

qalā lahum mūsā waylakum lā taftarū ʿalā allāhi kadhiban fa-yusḥitakum bi-ʿadhābin wa-qad khāba mani iftarā

Moses said to him: Woe to you! Forge not ye a lie against Allah, lest He destroy you (at once) utterly by chastisement: the forger must suffer frustration!"

Sura al-Anbiyāʾ 21:5

بَلْ قَالُوٓا۟ أَضْغَٰثُ أَحْلَٰمٍۭ بَلِ ٱفْتَرَىٰهُ بَلْ هُوَ شَاعِرٌ فَلْيَأْتِنَا بِـَٔايَةٍ كَمَآ أُرْسِلَ ٱلْأَوَّلُونَ

bal qālū aḍghāthu aḥlāmin bali iftarāhu bal huwa shāʿirun fa-l-yaʾtinā bi-āyatin ka-mā ursila l-awwalūna

"Nay," they say, "(these are) medleys of dream! - Nay, He forged it! - Nay, He is (but) a poet! Let him then bring us a Sign like the ones that were sent to (Prophets) of old!"

Sura al-Muʾminūn 23:38

إِنْ هُوَ إِلَّا رَجُلٌ ٱفْتَرَىٰ عَلَى ٱللَّـهِ كَذِبًا وَمَا نَحْنُ لَهُۥ بِمُؤْمِنِينَ

in huwa illā rajulun iftarā ʿalā allāhi kadhiban wa-mā naḥnu lahu bi-mūʾminīna

"He is only a man who invents a lie against Allah, but we are not the ones to believe in him!"

Sura al-Furqān 25:4

وَقَالَ ٱلَّذِينَ كَفَرُوٓا۟ إِنْ هَٰذَآ إِلَّآ إِفْكٌ ٱفْتَرَىٰهُ وَأَعَانَهُۥ عَلَيْهِ قَوْمٌ ءَاخَرُونَ فَقَدْ جَآءُو ظُلْمًا وَزُورًا

wa-qāla lladhīna kafarū in hādhā illā ifkun iftarāhu wa-aʿānahu ʿalayhi qawmun ākharūna fa-qad jāʾū ẓulman wa-zūran

But the misbelievers say: "Naught is this but a lie which he has forged, and others have helped him at it." In truth it is they who have put forward an iniquity and a falsehood.

Sura al-Qaṣaṣ 28:75

وَنَزَعْنَا مِن كُلِّ أُمَّةٍ شَهِيدًا فَقُلْنَا هَاتُوا۟ بُرْهَٰنَكُمْ فَعَلِمُوٓا۟ أَنَّ ٱلْحَقَّ لِلَّـهِ وَضَلَّ عَنْهُم مَّا كَانُوا۟ يَفْتَرُونَ

wa-nazaʿnā min kulli ummatin shahīdan fa-qulnā hātū burhānakum faʿalimū annā l-ḥaqqa lillāhi wa-ḍalla ʿanhum mā kānū yaftarūna

And from each people shall We draw a witness, and We shall say: "Produce your Proof": then shall they know that the Truth is in Allah (alone), and the (lies) which they invented will leave them in lurch.

Sura al-ʿAnkabūt 29:13

وَلَيَحْمِلُنَّ أَثْقَالَهُمْ وَأَثْقَالًا مَّعَ أَثْقَالِهِمْ وَلَيُسْـَٔلُنَّ يَوْمَ ٱلْقِيَٰمَةِ عَمَّا كَانُوا۟ يَفْتَرُونَ

wa-la-yaḥmilunna athqālahum wa-athqālan maʿa athqālihim wa-layusalunna yawma l-qiyāmati ʿammā kānū yaftarūna

They will bear their own burdens, and (other) burdens along with their own, and on the Day of Judgments they will be called to account for their falsehoods.

Sura al-ʿAnkabūt 29:68

وَمَنْ أَظْلَمُ مِمَّنِ ٱفْتَرَىٰ عَلَى ٱللَّـهِ كَذِبًا أَوْ كَذَّبَ بِٱلْحَقِّ لَمَّا جَآءَهُۥٓ أَلَيْسَ فِى جَهَنَّمَ مَثْوًى لِّلْكَٰفِرِينَ

wa-man aẓlamu mimmani iftarā ʿalā allāhi kadhiban aw kadhdhaba bil-ḥaqqi lammā jāʾahu a-laysa fī jahannama mathwan lil-kāfirīna

And who does more wrong than he who invents a lie against Allah or rejects the Truth when it reaches him? Is there not a home in Hell for those who reject Faith?

Sura al-Sajdah 32:3

أَمْ يَقُولُونَ ٱفْتَرَىٰهُ بَلْ هُوَ ٱلْحَقُّ مِن رَّبِّكَ لِتُنذِرَ قَوْمًا مَّآ أَتَىٰهُم مِّن نَّذِيرٍ مِّن قَبْلِكَ لَعَلَّهُمْ يَهْتَدُونَ

am yaqūlūna iftarāhu bal huwa l-ḥaqqu min rabbika li-tundhira qawman mā atāhum min nnadhīrin min qablika la-ʿallahum yahtadūna

Or do they say, "He has forged it"? Nay, it is the Truth from thy Lord, that thou mayest admonish a people to whom no warner has come before thee: in order that they may receive guidance.

Sura Sabaʾ 34:8

أَفْتَرَىٰ عَلَى ٱللَّـهِ كَذِبًا أَم بِهِۦ جِنَّةٌۢ بَلِ ٱلَّذِينَ لَا يُؤْمِنُونَ بِٱلْأَخِرَةِ فِى ٱلْعَذَابِ وَٱلضَّلَٰلِ ٱلْبَعِيدِ

iftarā ʿalā allāhi kadhiban am bihi jinnatun bali lladhīna lā yuʾminūna bil-akhirati fī l-ʿadhābi wa-l-ḍalāli l-baʿīdi

"Has he invented a falsehood against Allah, or has a spirit (seized) him?"- Nay, it is those who believe not in the Hereafter, that are in (real) Penalty, and in farthest error.

Sura al-Shūrā 42:24

أَمْ يَقُولُونَ ٱفْتَرَىٰ عَلَى ٱللَّـهِ كَذِبًا فَإِن يَشَإِ ٱللَّـهُ يَخْتِمْ عَلَىٰ قَلْبِكَ وَيَمْحُ ٱللَّـهُ ٱلْبَٰطِلَ وَيُحِقُّ ٱلْحَقَّ بِكَلِمَٰتِهِۦٓ إِنَّهُۥ عَلِيمٌۢ بِذَاتِ ٱلصُّدُورِ

am yaqūlūna iftarā ʿalā allāhi kadhiban fa-in yashaʾi allāhu yakhtim ʿalā qalbika wa-yamḥu allāhu l-bāṭila wa-yuḥiqqu l-ḥaqqa bi-kalimātihi innahu ʿalīmun bi-dhāti l-ṣudūri

What! Do they say, "He has forged a falsehood against Allah"? But if Allah willed, He could seal up thy heart. And Allah blots out Vanity, and proves the Truth by His Words. For He knows well the secrets of all hearts.

Sura al-Aḥqāf 46:8

أَمْ يَقُولُونَ ٱفْتَرَىٰهُ قُلْ إِنِ ٱفْتَرَيْتُهُۥ فَلَا تَمْلِكُونَ لِى مِنَ ٱللَّـهِ شَيْـًٔا هُوَ أَعْلَمُ بِمَا تُفِيضُونَ فِيهِ كَفَىٰ بِهِۦ شَهِيدًۢا بَيْنِى وَبَيْنَكُمْ وَهُوَ ٱلْغَفُورُ ٱلرَّحِيمُ

am yaqūlūna iftarāhu qul ini iftaraytuhu fa-lā tamlikūna lī mina allāhi shayʾan huwa aʿlamu bi-mā tufīḍūna fīhi kafā bihi shahīdan baynī wa-baynakum wa-huwa l-ghafūru l-raḥīmu

Or do they say, "He has forged it"? Say: "Had I forged it, then can ye obtain no single (blessing) for me from Allah. He knows best of that whereof ye talk (so glibly)! Enough is He for a witness between me and you! And he is Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful."

Sura al-Aḥqāf 46:28

فَلَوْلَا نَصَرَهُمُ ٱلَّذِينَ ٱتَّخَذُوا۟ مِن دُونِ ٱللَّـهِ قُرْبَانًا ءَالِهَةًۢ بَلْ ضَلُّوا۟ عَنْهُمْ وَذَٰلِكَ إِفْكُهُمْ وَمَا كَانُوا۟ يَفْتَرُونَ

fa-lawlā naṣarahumu lladhīna ittakhadhū min dūni allāhi qurbānan ālihatan bal ḍallū ʿanhum wa-dhālika ifkuhum wa-mā kānū yaftarūna

Why then was no help forthcoming to them from those whom they worshipped as gods, besides Allah, as a means of access (to Allah)? Nay, they left them in the lurch: but that was their falsehood and their invention.

Sura al-Mumtaḥanah 60:12

يَٰٓأَيُّهَا ٱلنَّبِىُّ إِذَا جَآءَكَ ٱلْمُؤْمِنَٰتُ يُبَايِعْنَكَ عَلَىٰٓ أَن لَّا يُشْرِكْنَ بِٱللَّـهِ شَيْـًٔا وَلَا يَسْرِقْنَ وَلَا يَزْنِينَ وَلَا يَقْتُلْنَ أَوْلَٰدَهُنَّ وَلَا يَأْتِينَ بِبُهْتَٰنٍ يَفْتَرِينَهُۥ بَيْنَ أَيْدِيهِنَّ وَأَرْجُلِهِنَّ وَلَا يَعْصِينَكَ فِى مَعْرُوفٍ فَبَايِعْهُنَّ وَٱسْتَغْفِرْ لَهُنَّ ٱللَّـهَ إِنَّ ٱللَّـهَ غَفُورٌ رَّحِيمٌ

yā-ayyuhā l-nabiyyu idhā jāʾaka l-muʾminātu yubāyiʿnaka ʿala an lā yushrikna billāhi shayʾan wa-lā yasriqna wa-lā yaznīna wa-lā yaqtulna awlādahunna wa-lā yaʾtīna bi-buhtānin yaftarīnahu bayna aydīhinna wa-arjulihinna wa-lā yaʿṣīnaka fī maʿrūfin fa-bāyiʿhunna wa-istaghfir la-hunna allāha inna allāha ghafūrun raḥīmun

O Prophet! When believing women come to thee to take the oath of fealty to thee, that they will not associate in worship any other thing whatever with Allah, that they will not steal, that they will not commit adultery (or fornication), that they will not kill their children, that they will not utter slander, intentionally forging falsehood, and that they will not disobey thee in any just matter,- then do thou receive their fealty, and pray to Allah for the forgiveness (of their sins): for Allah is Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful.

Sura al-Ṣaff 61:7

وَمَنْ أَظْلَمُ مِمَّنِ ٱفْتَرَىٰ عَلَى ٱللَّـهِ ٱلْكَذِبَ وَهُوَ يُدْعَىٰٓ إِلَى ٱلْإِسْلَٰمِ وَٱللَّـهُ لَا يَهْدِى ٱلْقَوْمَ ٱلظَّٰلِمِينَ

wa-man aẓlamu mimmani iftarā ʿalā allāhi l-kadhiba wa-huwa yudʿā ilā l-islāmi wallāhu lā yahdī l-qawma l-ẓālimīna

Who doth greater wrong than one who invents falsehood against Allah, even as he is being invited to Islam? And Allah guides not those who do wrong.
