RefArabic    TransliterationTranslation
(2:117)

To Him is due the primal origin of the heavens and the earth: When He decreeth a matter, He saith to it: "Be," and it is.
(2:210)

هَلْ  يَنظُرُونَ  إِلَّآ  أَن  يَأْتِيَهُمُ  ٱللَّـهُ  فِى  ظُلَلٍ  مِّنَ  ٱلْغَمَامِ  وَٱلْمَلَٰٓئِكَةُ  وَقُضِىَ  ٱلْأَمْرُ  وَإِلَى  ٱللَّـهِ  تُرْجَعُ  ٱلْأُمُورُ hal yanẓurūna illā an yaʾtiyahumu allāhu ẓulalin mina l‑ghamāmi wa‑l‑malāʾikatu wa‑quḍiya l‑amru wa‑ilā allāhi turjaʿu l‑umūru
Will they wait until Allah comes to them in canopies of clouds, with angels (in His train) and the question is (thus) settled? but to Allah do all questions go back (for decision).

(3:47)

She said: "O my Lord! How shall I have a son when no man hath touched me?" He said: "Even so: Allah createth what He willeth: When He hath decreed a plan, He but saith to it, 'Be,' and it is!

Surah 6 al-Anʿām (The Cattle)
(6:2)

He it is created you from clay, and then decreed a stated term (for you). And there is in His presence another determined term; yet ye doubt within yourselves!
(6:8)

They say: "Why is not an angel sent down to him?" If we did send down an angel, the matter would be settled at once, and no respite would be granted them.
(6:58)

قُل  لَّوْ  أَنَّ  عِندِى  مَا  تَسْتَعْجِلُونَ  بِهِۦ  لَقُضِىَ  ٱلْأَمْرُ  بَيْنِى  وَبَيْنَكُمْ  وَٱللَّـهُ  أَعْلَمُ  بِٱلظَّٰلِمِينَ qul law annā ʿindī tastaʿjilūna bihi la‑quḍiya l‑amru baynī wa‑baynakum wallāhu aʿlamu bil‑ẓālimīna
Say: "If what ye would see hastened were in my power, the matter would be settled at once between you and me. But Allah knoweth best those who do wrong."
(6:60)

It is He who doth take your souls by night, and hath knowledge of all that ye have done by day: by day doth He raise you up again; that a term appointed be fulfilled; In the end unto Him will be your return; then will He show you the truth of all that ye did.

Surah 8 al-Anfāl (The Spoils of War)
(8:42)

إِذْ  أَنتُم  بِٱلْعُدْوَةِ  ٱلدُّنْيَا  وَهُم  بِٱلْعُدْوَةِ  ٱلْقُصْوَىٰ  وَٱلرَّكْبُ  أَسْفَلَ  مِنكُمْ  وَلَوْ  تَوَاعَدتُّمْ  لَٱخْتَلَفْتُمْ  فِى  ٱلْمِيعَٰدِ  وَلَٰكِن  لِّيَقْضِىَ  ٱللَّـهُ  أَمْرًا  كَانَ  مَفْعُولًا  لِّيَهْلِكَ  مَنْ  هَلَكَ  عَنۢ  بَيِّنَةٍ  وَيَحْيَىٰ  مَنْ  حَىَّ  عَنۢ  بَيِّنَةٍ  وَإِنَّ  ٱللَّـهَ  لَسَمِيعٌ  عَلِيمٌ idh antum bil‑ʿudwati l‑dunyā wa‑hum bil‑ʿudwati l‑quṣwā wa‑l‑rakbu asfala minkum wa‑law tawāʿadttum la‑ikhtalaftum l‑mīʿādi wa‑lākin llīaqḍīa allāhu amran kāna mafʿūlan llīahlika man halaka ʿan bayyinatin wa‑yaḥya man ḥaya ʿan bayyinatin wa‑inna allāha lasamīʿun ʿalīmun
Remember ye were on the hither side of the valley, and they on the farther side, and the caravan on lower ground than ye. Even if ye had made a mutual appointment to meet, ye would certainly have failed in the appointment: But (thus ye met), that Allah might accomplish a matter already enacted; that those who died might die after a clear Sign (had been given), and those who lived might live after a Clear Sign (had been given). And verily Allah is He Who heareth and knoweth (all things).
(8:44)

وَإِذْ  يُرِيكُمُوهُمْ  إِذِ  ٱلْتَقَيْتُمْ  فِىٓ  أَعْيُنِكُمْ  قَلِيلًا  وَيُقَلِّلُكُمْ  فِىٓ  أَعْيُنِهِمْ  لِيَقْضِىَ  ٱللَّـهُ  أَمْرًا  كَانَ  مَفْعُولًا  وَإِلَى  ٱللَّـهِ  تُرْجَعُ  ٱلْأُمُورُ wa‑idh yurīkumūhum idhi l‑taqaytum aʿyunikum qalīlan wa‑yuqalilukum aʿyunihim li‑yaqḍiya allāhu amran kāna mafʿūlan wa‑ilā allāhi turjaʿu l‑umūru
And remember when ye met, He showed them to you as few in your eyes, and He made you appear as contemptible in their eyes: that Allah might accomplish a matter already enacted. For to Allah do all questions go back (for decision).

Surah 10 Yūnus (Jonah)
(10:11)

If Allah were to hasten for men the ill (they have earned) as they would fain hasten on the good,- then would their respite be settled at once. But We leave those who rest not their hope on their meeting with Us, in their trespasses, wandering in distraction to and fro.
(10:19)

Mankind was but one nation, but differed (later). Had it not been for a word that went forth before from thy Lord, their differences would have been settled between them.
(10:47)

To every people (was sent) a messenger: when their messenger comes (before them), the matter will be judged between them with justice, and they will not be wronged.
(10:54)

Every soul that hath sinned, if it possessed all that is on earth, would fain give it in ransom: They would declare (their) repentance when they see the penalty: but the judgment between them will be with justice, and no wrong will be done unto them.
(10:93)

We settled the Children of Israel in a beautiful dwelling-place, and provided for them sustenance of the best: it was after knowledge had been granted to them, that they fell into schisms. Verily Allah will judge between them as to the schisms amongst them, on the Day of Judgment.

Surah 11 Hūd (Hud)
(11:44)

Then the word went forth: "O earth! swallow up thy water, and O sky! Withhold (thy rain)!" and the water abated, and the matter was ended. The Ark rested on Mount Judi, and the word went forth: "Away with those who do wrong!"
(11:110)

We certainly gave the Book to Moses, but differences arose therein: had it not been that a word had gone forth before from thy Lord, the matter would have been decided between them, but they are in suspicious doubt concerning it.

Surah 12 Yūsuf (Joseph)
(12:41)

"O my two companions of the prison! As to one of you, he will pour out the wine for his lord to drink: as for the other, he will hang from the cross, and the birds will eat from off his head. (so) hath been decreed that matter whereof ye twain do enquire"...
(12:68)

وَلَمَّا  دَخَلُوا۟  مِنْ  حَيْثُ  أَمَرَهُمْ  أَبُوهُم  مَّا  كَانَ  يُغْنِى  عَنْهُم  مِّنَ  ٱللَّـهِ  مِن  شَىْءٍ  إِلَّا  حَاجَةً  فِى  نَفْسِ  يَعْقُوبَ  قَضَىٰهَا  وَإِنَّهُۥ  لَذُو  عِلْمٍ  لِّمَا  عَلَّمْنَٰهُ  وَلَٰكِنَّ  أَكْثَرَ  ٱلنَّاسِ  لَا  يَعْلَمُونَ wa‑lammā dakhalū min ḥaythu amarahum abūhum kāna yughnī ʿanhum mina allāhi min shayʾin illā ḥājatan nafsi yaʿqūba qaḍahā wa‑innahu la‑dhū ʿilmin li‑mā ʿallamnāhu wa‑lākinna akthara l‑nāsi yaʿlamūna
And when they entered in the manner their father had enjoined, it did not profit them in the least against (the plan of) Allah: It was but a necessity of Jacob's soul, which he discharged. For he was, by our instruction, full of knowledge (and experience): but most men know not.

Surah 14 Ibrāhīm (Abraham)
(14:22)

وَقَالَ  ٱلشَّيْطَٰنُ  لَمَّا  قُضِىَ  ٱلْأَمْرُ  إِنَّ  ٱللَّـهَ  وَعَدَكُمْ  وَعْدَ  ٱلْحَقِّ  وَوَعَدتُّكُمْ  فَأَخْلَفْتُكُمْ  وَمَا  كَانَ  لِىَ  عَلَيْكُم  مِّن  سُلْطَٰنٍ  إِلَّآ  أَن  دَعَوْتُكُمْ  فَٱسْتَجَبْتُمْ  لِى  فَلَا  تَلُومُونِى  وَلُومُوٓا۟  أَنفُسَكُم  مَّآ  أَنَا۠  بِمُصْرِخِكُمْ  وَمَآ  أَنتُم  بِمُصْرِخِىَّ  إِنِّى  كَفَرْتُ  بِمَآ  أَشْرَكْتُمُونِ  مِن  قَبْلُ  إِنَّ  ٱلظَّٰلِمِينَ  لَهُمْ  عَذَابٌ  أَلِيمٌ wa‑qāla l‑shayṭānu lammā quḍiya l‑amru inna allāha waʿadakum waʿda l‑ḥaqqi wa‑waʿadttukum fa‑akhlaftukum wa‑mā kāna liya ʿalaykum min sulṭānin illā an daʿawtukum fa‑istajabtum fa‑lā talūmūnī wa‑lūmū anfusakum anā bimuṣrikhikum wa‑mā antum bimuṣrikhiyya innī kafartu bimā ashraktumūni min qablu inna l‑ẓālimīna lahum ʿadhābun alīmun
And Satan will say when the matter is decided: "It was Allah Who gave you a promise of Truth: I too promised, but I failed in my promise to you. I had no authority over you except to call you but ye listened to me: then reproach not me, but reproach your own souls. I cannot listen to your cries, nor can ye listen to mine. I reject your former act in associating me with Allah. For wrong-doers there must be a grievous penalty."

Surah 17 al-Isrāʾ (The Children of Israel)
(17:23)

Thy Lord hath decreed that ye worship none but Him, and that ye be kind to parents. Whether one or both of them attain old age in thy life, say not to them a word of contempt, nor repel them, but address them in terms of honour.

Surah 19 Maryam (Mary)
(19:35)

مَا  كَانَ  لِلَّـهِ  أَن  يَتَّخِذَ  مِن  وَلَدٍ  سُبْحَٰنَهُۥٓ  إِذَا  قَضَىٰٓ  أَمْرًا  فَإِنَّمَا  يَقُولُ  لَهُۥ  كُن  فَيَكُونُ kāna lillāhi an yattakhidha min waladin subḥānahu idhā qaḍa amran fa‑innamā yaqūlu lahu kun fa‑yakūnu
It is not befitting to (the majesty of) Allah that He should beget a son. Glory be to Him! when He determines a matter, He only says to it, "Be", and it is.
(19:39)

But warn them of the Day of Distress, when the matter will be determined: for (behold,) they are negligent and they do not believe!

Surah 20 Ṭā Hā (Ta-Ha)
(20:114)

فَتَعَٰلَى  ٱللَّـهُ  ٱلْمَلِكُ  ٱلْحَقُّ  وَلَا  تَعْجَلْ  بِٱلْقُرْءَانِ  مِن  قَبْلِ  أَن  يُقْضَىٰٓ  إِلَيْكَ  وَحْيُهُۥ  وَقُل  رَّبِّ  زِدْنِى  عِلْمًا fa‑taʿālā allāhu l‑maliku l‑ḥaqqu wa‑lā taʿjal bil‑qurʾāni min qabli an yuqḍa ilayka waḥyuhu wa‑qul rrabbi zidnī ʿilman
High above all is Allah, the King, the Truth! Be not in haste with the Qur'an before its revelation to thee is completed, but say, "O my Lord! advance me in knowledge."

Surah 22 al-Ḥajj (The Pilgrimage)
(22:29)

"Then let them complete the rites prescribed for them, perform their vows, and (again) circumambulate the Ancient House."

Surah 27 al-Naml (The Ant)
(27:78)

Verily thy Lord will decide between them by His Decree: and He is Exalted in Might, All-Knowing.

Surah 28 al-Qaṣaṣ (The Narrative)
(28:15)

And he entered the city at a time when its people were not watching: and he found there two men fighting,- one of his own religion, and the other, of his foes. Now the man of his own religion appealed to him against his foe, and Moses struck him with his fist and made an end of him. He said: "This is a work of Evil (Satan): for he is an enemy that manifestly misleads!"
(28:29)

Now when Moses had fulfilled the term, and was travelling with his family, he perceived a fire in the direction of Mount Tur. He said to his family: "Tarry ye; I perceive a fire; I hope to bring you from there some information, or a burning firebrand, that ye may warm yourselves."

Surah 33 al-Aḥzāb (The Allies)
(33:23)

Among the Believers are men who have been true to their covenant with Allah: of them some have completed their vow (to the extreme), and some (still) wait: but they have never changed (their determination) in the least:
(33:36)

وَمَا  كَانَ  لِمُؤْمِنٍ  وَلَا  مُؤْمِنَةٍ  إِذَا  قَضَى  ٱللَّـهُ  وَرَسُولُهُۥٓ  أَمْرًا  أَن  يَكُونَ  لَهُمُ  ٱلْخِيَرَةُ  مِنْ  أَمْرِهِمْ  وَمَن  يَعْصِ  ٱللَّـهَ  وَرَسُولَهُۥ  فَقَدْ  ضَلَّ  ضَلَٰلًا  مُّبِينًا wa‑mā kāna li‑muʾminin wa‑lā muʾminatin idhā qaḍa allāhu wa‑rasūluhu amran an yakūna lahumu l‑khiyaratu min amrihim wa‑man yaʿṣi allāha wa‑rasūlahu fa‑qad ḍalla ḍalālan mubīnan
It is not fitting for a Believer, man or woman, when a matter has been decided by Allah and His Messenger to have any option about their decision: if any one disobeys Allah and His Messenger, he is indeed on a clearly wrong Path.
(33:37)

وَإِذْ  تَقُولُ  لِلَّذِىٓ  أَنْعَمَ  ٱللَّـهُ  عَلَيْهِ  وَأَنْعَمْتَ  عَلَيْهِ  أَمْسِكْ  عَلَيْكَ  زَوْجَكَ  وَٱتَّقِ  ٱللَّـهَ  وَتُخْفِى  فِى  نَفْسِكَ  مَا  ٱللَّـهُ  مُبْدِيهِ  وَتَخْشَى  ٱلنَّاسَ  وَٱللَّـهُ  أَحَقُّ  أَن  تَخْشَىٰهُ  فَلَمَّا  قَضَىٰ  زَيْدٌ  مِّنْهَا  وَطَرًا  زَوَّجْنَٰكَهَا  لِكَىْ  لَا  يَكُونَ  عَلَى  ٱلْمُؤْمِنِينَ  حَرَجٌ  فِىٓ  أَزْوَٰجِ  أَدْعِيَآئِهِمْ  إِذَا  قَضَوْا۟  مِنْهُنَّ  وَطَرًا  وَكَانَ  أَمْرُ  ٱللَّـهِ  مَفْعُولًا wa‑idh taqūlu lilladhī anʿama allāhu ʿalayhi wa‑anʿamta ʿalayhi amsik ʿalayka zawjaka wa‑ittaqi allāha wa‑tukhfī nafsika allāhu mubdīhi wa‑takhsha l‑nāsa wallāhu aḥaqqu an takhshahu fa‑lammā qaḍa zaydun minhā waṭaran zawwajnākahā li‑kai yakūna ʿalā l‑muʾminīna ḥarajun azwāji adʿiyāʾihim idhā qaḍaw minhunna waṭaran wa‑kāna amru allāhi mafʿūlan
Behold! Thou didst say to one who had received the grace of Allah and thy favour: "Retain thou (in wedlock) thy wife, and fear Allah." But thou didst hide in thy heart that which Allah was about to make manifest: thou didst fear the people, but it is more fitting that thou shouldst fear Allah. Then when Zaid had dissolved (his marriage) with her, with the necessary (formality), We joined her in marriage to thee: in order that (in future) there may be no difficulty to the Believers in (the matter of) marriage with the wives of their adopted sons, when the latter have dissolved with the necessary (formality) (their marriage) with them. And Allah's command must be fulfilled.

Surah 35 al-Faṭīr (The Creator)
(35:36)

But those who reject (Allah) - for them will be the Fire of Hell: No term shall be determined for them, so they should die, nor shall its Penalty be lightened for them. Thus do We reward every ungrateful one!

Surah 39 al-Zumar (The Companies)
(39:42)

It is Allah that takes the souls (of men) at death; and those that die not (He takes) during their sleep: those on whom He has passed the decree of death, He keeps back (from returning to life), but the rest He sends (to their bodies) for a term appointed verily in this are Signs for those who reflect.
(39:69)

وَأَشْرَقَتِ  ٱلْأَرْضُ  بِنُورِ  رَبِّهَا  وَوُضِعَ  ٱلْكِتَٰبُ  وَجِا۟ىٓءَ  بِٱلنَّبِيِّۦنَ  وَٱلشُّهَدَآءِ  وَقُضِىَ  بَيْنَهُم  بِٱلْحَقِّ  وَهُمْ  لَا  يُظْلَمُونَ wa‑ashraqati l‑arḍu bi‑nūri rabbihā wa‑wuḍiʿa l‑kitābu wa‑jīʾa bil‑nabiyyina wa‑l‑shuhadāʾi wa‑quḍiya baynahum bil‑ḥaqqi wa‑hum yuẓlamūna
And the Earth will shine with the Glory of its Lord: the Record (of Deeds) will be placed (open); the prophets and the witnesses will be brought forward and a just decision pronounced between them; and they will not be wronged (in the least).
(39:75)

And thou wilt see the angels surrounding the Throne (Divine) on all sides, singing Glory and Praise to their Lord. The Decision between them (at Judgment) will be in (perfect) justice, and the cry (on all sides) will be, "Praise be to Allah, the Lord of the Worlds!"

Surah 40 al-Ghāfir (The Forgiving One)
(40:20)

وَٱللَّـهُ  يَقْضِى  بِٱلْحَقِّ  وَٱلَّذِينَ  يَدْعُونَ  مِن  دُونِهِۦ  لَا  يَقْضُونَ  بِشَىْءٍ  إِنَّ  ٱللَّـهَ  هُوَ  ٱلسَّمِيعُ  ٱلْبَصِيرُ wallāhu yaqḍī bil‑ḥaqqi wa‑lladhīna yadʿūna min dūnihi yaqḍūna bi‑shayʾin inna allāha huwa l‑samīʿu l‑baṣīru
And Allah will judge with (justice and) Truth: but those whom (men) invoke besides Him, will not (be in a position) to judge at all. Verily it is Allah (alone) Who hears and sees (all things).
(40:68)

It is He Who gives Life and Death; and when He decides upon an affair, He says to it, "Be", and it is.
(40:78)

وَلَقَدْ  أَرْسَلْنَا  رُسُلًا  مِّن  قَبْلِكَ  مِنْهُم  مَّن  قَصَصْنَا  عَلَيْكَ  وَمِنْهُم  مَّن  لَّمْ  نَقْصُصْ  عَلَيْكَ  وَمَا  كَانَ  لِرَسُولٍ  أَن  يَأْتِىَ  بِـَٔايَةٍ  إِلَّا  بِإِذْنِ  ٱللَّـهِ  فَإِذَا  جَآءَ  أَمْرُ  ٱللَّـهِ  قُضِىَ  بِٱلْحَقِّ  وَخَسِرَ  هُنَالِكَ  ٱلْمُبْطِلُونَ wa‑la‑qad arsalnā rusulan min qablika minhum man qaṣaṣnā ʿalayka wa‑minhum man lam naqṣuṣ ʿalayka wa‑mā kāna lirasūlin an yaʾtiya bi‑āyatin illā bi‑idhni allāhi fa‑idhā jāa amru allāhi quḍiya bil‑ḥaqqi wa‑khasira hunālika l‑mubṭilūna
We did aforetime send messengers before thee: of them there are some whose story We have related to thee, and some whose story We have not related to thee. It was not (possible) for any messenger to bring a sign except by the leave of Allah: but when the Command of Allah issued, the matter was decided in truth and justice, and there perished, there and then those who stood on Falsehoods.

Surah 41 Fuṣṣilat (Revelations Well Expounded)
(41:12)

فَقَضَىٰهُنَّ  سَبْعَ  سَمَٰوَاتٍ  فِى  يَوْمَيْنِ  وَأَوْحَىٰ  فِى  كُلِّ  سَمَآءٍ  أَمْرَهَا  وَزَيَّنَّا  ٱلسَّمَآءَ  ٱلدُّنْيَا  بِمَصَٰبِيحَ  وَحِفْظًا  ذَٰلِكَ  تَقْدِيرُ  ٱلْعَزِيزِ  ٱلْعَلِيمِ fa‑qaḍāhunna sabʿa samāwātin yawmayni wa‑awḥa kulli samāʾin amrahā wa‑zayyannā l‑samāʾa l‑dunyā bi‑maṣābīḥa wa‑ḥifẓan dhālika taqdīru l‑ʿazīzi l‑ʿalīmi
So He completed them as seven firmaments in two Days, and He assigned to each heaven its duty and command. And We adorned the lower heaven with lights, and (provided it) with guard. Such is the Decree of (Him) the Exalted in Might, Full of Knowledge.
(41:45)

We certainly gave Moses the Book aforetime: but disputes arose therein. Had it not been for a Word that went forth before from thy Lord, (their differences) would have been settled between them: but they remained in suspicious disquieting doubt thereon.

Surah 42 al-Shūrā (The Counsel)
(42:14)

And they became divided only after Knowledge reached them,- through selfish envy as between themselves. Had it not been for a Word that went forth before from thy Lord, (tending) to a Term appointed, the matter would have been settled between them: But truly those who have inherited the Book after them are in suspicious (disquieting) doubt concerning it.
(42:21)

What! have they partners (in godhead), who have established for them some religion without the permission of Allah? Had it not been for the Decree of Judgment, the matter would have been decided between them (at once). But verily the Wrong-doers will have a grievous Penalty.

Surah 43 al-Zukhruf (The Embellishment)
(43:77)

They will cry: "O Malik! would that thy Lord put an end to us!" He will say, "Nay, but ye shall abide!"

Surah 45 al-Jāthiyah (The Kneeling)
(45:17)

And We granted them Clear Signs in affairs (of Religion): it was only after knowledge had been granted to them that they fell into schisms, through insolent envy among themselves. Verily thy Lord will judge between them on the Day of Judgment as to those matters in which they set up differences.

Surah 46 al-Aḥqāf (The Sandhills)
(46:29)

Behold, We turned towards thee a company of Jinns (quietly) listening to the Qur'an: when they stood in the presence thereof, they said, "Listen in silence!" When the (reading) was finished, they returned to their people, to warn (them of their sins).

Surah 62 al-Jumuʿah (The Day of Congregation)
(62:10)

And when the Prayer is finished, then may ye disperse through the land, and seek of the Bounty of Allah: and celebrate the Praises of Allah often (and without stint): that ye may prosper.

Surah 80 al-ʿAbasa (He Frowned)
(80:23)

By no means hath he fulfilled what Allah hath commanded him.
