eyes, even as they refused to believe in this in the first instance: We
shall leave them in their trespasses, to wander in distraction.

(9:48) | لَقَدِ ٱبْتَغَوُا۟ ٱلْفِتْنَةَ مِن قَبْلُ وَقَلَّبُوا۟ لَكَ ٱلْأُمُورَ حَتَّىٰ جَآءَ ٱلْحَقُّ وَظَهَرَ أَمْرُ ٱللَّـهِ وَهُمْ كَٰرِهُونَ | laqadi ibtaghawu l‑fitnata min qablu wa‑qallabū la‑ka l‑umūra ḥattā jāa l‑ḥaqqu wa‑ẓahara amru allāhi wa‑hum kārihūna | Indeed they had plotted sedition before, and upset matters for
thee, until,- the Truth arrived, and the Decree of Allah became manifest much
to their disgust.

(18:18) | وَتَحْسَبُهُمْ أَيْقَاظًا وَهُمْ رُقُودٌ وَنُقَلِّبُهُمْ ذَاتَ ٱلْيَمِينِ وَذَاتَ ٱلشِّمَالِ وَكَلْبُهُم بَٰسِطٌ ذِرَاعَيْهِ بِٱلْوَصِيدِ لَوِ ٱطَّلَعْتَ عَلَيْهِمْ لَوَلَّيْتَ مِنْهُمْ فِرَارًا وَلَمُلِئْتَ مِنْهُمْ رُعْبًا | wa‑taḥsabuhum ayqāẓan wa‑hum ruqūdun wa‑nuqallibuhum dhāta l‑yamīni wa‑dhāta l‑shimāli wa‑kalbuhum bāsiṭun dhirāʿayhi bil‑waṣīdi lawi iṭṭalaʿta ʿalayhim la‑wallayta minhum firāran wa‑la‑muliʾta minhum ruʿban | Thou wouldst have deemed them awake, whilst they were asleep,

stretching forth his two fore-legs on the threshold: if thou hadst come up
on to them, thou wouldst have certainly turned back from them in flight,
and wouldst certainly have been filled with terror of them.

(18:42) | وَأُحِيطَ بِثَمَرِهِۦ فَأَصْبَحَ يُقَلِّبُ كَفَّيْهِ عَلَىٰ مَآ أَنفَقَ فِيهَا وَهِىَ خَاوِيَةٌ عَلَىٰ عُرُوشِهَا وَيَقُولُ يَٰلَيْتَنِى لَمْ أُشْرِكْ بِرَبِّىٓ أَحَدًا | wa‑uḥīṭa bithamarihi fa‑aṣbaḥa yuqallibu kaffayhi ʿalā mā anfaqa fīhā wahiya khāwiyatun ʿalā ʿurūshihā wa‑yaqūlu yā‑laytanī lam ushrik bi‑rabbī aḥadan | So his fruits (and enjoyment) were encompassed (with ruin),
and he remained twisting and turning his hands over what he had spent on
his property, which had (now) tumbled to pieces to its very foundations,
and he could only say, "Woe is me! Would I had never ascribed partners to
my Lord and Cherisher!"
