The lightning all but snatches away their sight; every time the light (Helps) them, they walk therein, and when the darkness grows on them, they stand still. And if Allah willed, He could take away their faculty of hearing and seeing; for Allah hath power over all things.

"Wherever ye are, death will find you out, even if ye are in towers built up strong and high!" If some good befalls them, they say, "This is from Allah"; but if evil, they say, "This is from thee" (O Prophet). Say: "All things are from Allah." But what hath come to these people, that they fail to understand a single fact?

Surah 7 al-Aʿrāf (The Heights)

وَلَمَّا  رَجَعَ  مُوسَىٰٓ  إِلَىٰ  قَوْمِهِۦ  غَضْبَٰنَ  أَسِفًا  قَالَ  بِئْسَمَا  خَلَفْتُمُونِى  مِنۢ  بَعْدِىٓ  أَعَجِلْتُمْ  أَمْرَ  رَبِّكُمْ  وَأَلْقَى  ٱلْأَلْوَاحَ  وَأَخَذَ  بِرَأْسِ  أَخِيهِ  يَجُرُّهُۥٓ  إِلَيْهِ  قَالَ  ٱبْنَ  أُمَّ  إِنَّ  ٱلْقَوْمَ  ٱسْتَضْعَفُونِى  وَكَادُوا۟  يَقْتُلُونَنِى  فَلَا  تُشْمِتْ  بِىَ  ٱلْأَعْدَآءَ  وَلَا  تَجْعَلْنِى  مَعَ  ٱلْقَوْمِ  ٱلظَّٰلِمِينَ wa‑lammā rajaʿa mūsā ilā qawmihi ghaḍbāna asifan qalā biʾsamā khalaftumūnī min baʿdī aʿajiltum amra rabbikum wa‑alqa l‑alwāḥa wa‑akhadha bi‑raʾsi akhīhi yajurruhu ilayhi qalā ibna umma inna l‑qawma istaḍʿafūnī wa‑kādū yaqtulūnanī fa‑lā tushmit biya l‑aʿdāʾa wa‑lā tajʿalnī maʿa l‑qawmi l‑ẓālimīna
When Moses came back to his people, angry and grieved, he said: "Evil it is that ye have done in my place in my absence: did ye make haste to bring on the judgment of your Lord?" He put down the tablets, seized his brother by (the hair of) his head, and dragged him to him. Aaron said: "Son of my mother! the people did indeed reckon me as naught, and went near to slaying me! Make not the enemies rejoice over my misfortune, nor count thou me amongst the people of sin."

Surah 9 al-Tawbah (Repentance)
(9:117)

Allah turned with favour to the Prophet, the Muhajirs, and the Ansar,- who followed him in a time of distress, after that the hearts of a part of them had nearly swerved (from duty); but He turned to them (also): for He is unto them Most Kind, Most Merciful.

Surah 14 Ibrāhīm (Abraham)

In gulps will he sip it, but never will he be near swallowing it down his throat: death will come to him from every quarter, yet will he not die: and in front of him will be a chastisement unrelenting.

Surah 17 al-Isrāʾ (The Children of Israel)

وَإِن  كَادُوا۟  لَيَفْتِنُونَكَ  عَنِ  ٱلَّذِىٓ  أَوْحَيْنَآ  إِلَيْكَ  لِتَفْتَرِىَ  عَلَيْنَا  غَيْرَهُۥ  وَإِذًا  لَّٱتَّخَذُوكَ  خَلِيلًا wa‑in kādū la‑yaftinūnaka ʿani alladhī awḥaynā ilayka li‑taftariya ʿalaynā ghayrahu waidhan la‑ittakhadhūka khalīlan
And their purpose was to tempt thee away from that which We had revealed unto thee, to substitute in our name something quite different; (in that case), behold! they would certainly have made thee (their) friend!
(17:76)

وَإِن  كَادُوا۟  لَيَسْتَفِزُّونَكَ  مِنَ  ٱلْأَرْضِ  لِيُخْرِجُوكَ  مِنْهَا  وَإِذًا  لَّا  يَلْبَثُونَ  خِلَٰفَكَ  إِلَّا  قَلِيلًا wa‑in kādū la‑yastafizzūnaka mina l‑arḍi li‑yukhrijūka minhā waidhan yalbathūna khilāfaka illā qalīlan
Their purpose was to scare thee off the land, in order to expel thee; but in that case they would not have stayed (therein) after thee, except for a little while.

Until, when he reached (a tract) between two mountains, he found, beneath them, a people who scarcely understood a word.

Surah 19 Maryam (Mary)

At it the skies are ready to burst, the earth to split asunder, and the mountains to fall down in utter ruin,

Surah 22 al-Ḥajj (The Pilgrimage)
(22:72)

وَإِذَا  تُتْلَىٰ  عَلَيْهِمْ  ءَايَٰتُنَا  بَيِّنَٰتٍ  تَعْرِفُ  فِى  وُجُوهِ  ٱلَّذِينَ  كَفَرُوا۟  ٱلْمُنكَرَ  يَكَادُونَ  يَسْطُونَ  بِٱلَّذِينَ  يَتْلُونَ  عَلَيْهِمْ  ءَايَٰتِنَا  قُلْ  أَفَأُنَبِّئُكُم  بِشَرٍّ  مِّن  ذَٰلِكُمُ  ٱلنَّارُ  وَعَدَهَا  ٱللَّـهُ  ٱلَّذِينَ  كَفَرُوا۟  وَبِئْسَ  ٱلْمَصِيرُ wa‑idhā tutlā ʿalayhim āyātunā bayyinātin taʿrifu wujūhi lladhīna kafarū l‑munkara yakādūna yasṭūna bi‑lladhīna yatlūna ʿalayhim āyātinā qul a‑fa‑unabbiʾukum bisharrin min dhālikumu l‑nāru waʿadahā allāhu lladhīna kafarū wa‑bisa l‑maṣīru
When Our Clear Signs are rehearsed to them, thou wilt notice a denial on the faces of the Unbelievers! they nearly attack with violence those who rehearse Our Signs to them. Say, "Shall I tell you of something (far) worse than these Signs? It is the Fire (of Hell)! Allah has promised it to the Unbelievers! and evil is that destination!"

Surah 24 al-Nūr (The Light)
(24:35)

ٱللَّـهُ  نُورُ  ٱلسَّمَٰوَٰتِ  وَٱلْأَرْضِ  مَثَلُ  نُورِهِۦ  كَمِشْكَوٰةٍ  فِيهَا  مِصْبَاحٌ  ٱلْمِصْبَاحُ  فِى  زُجَاجَةٍ  ٱلزُّجَاجَةُ  كَأَنَّهَا  كَوْكَبٌ  دُرِّىٌّ  يُوقَدُ  مِن  شَجَرَةٍ  مُّبَٰرَكَةٍ  زَيْتُونَةٍ  لَّا  شَرْقِيَّةٍ  وَلَا  غَرْبِيَّةٍ  يَكَادُ  زَيْتُهَا  يُضِىٓءُ  وَلَوْ  لَمْ  تَمْسَسْهُ  نَارٌ  نُّورٌ  عَلَىٰ  نُورٍ  يَهْدِى  ٱللَّـهُ  لِنُورِهِۦ  مَن  يَشَآءُ  وَيَضْرِبُ  ٱللَّـهُ  ٱلْأَمْثَٰلَ  لِلنَّاسِ  وَٱللَّـهُ  بِكُلِّ  شَىْءٍ  عَلِيمٌ allāhu nūru l‑samāwāti wa‑l‑arḍi mathalu nūrihi ka‑mishkātin fīhā miṣbāḥun l‑miṣbāḥu zujājatin l‑zujājatu ka‑annahā kawkabun durriyyun yūqadu min shajaratin mubārakatin zaytūnatin sharqiyyatin wa‑lā gharbiyyatin yakādu zaytuhā yubdiʾu wa‑law lam tamsashu nārun nnūrun ʿalā nūrin yahdī allāhu li‑nūrihi man yashāʾu wa‑yaḍribu allāhu l‑amthāla lil‑nāsi wallāhu bi‑kulli shayʾin ʿalīmun
Allah is the Light of the heavens and the earth. The Parable of His Light is as if there were a Niche and within it a Lamp: the Lamp enclosed in Glass: the glass as it were a brilliant star: Lit from a blessed Tree, an Olive, neither of the east nor of the west, whose oil is well-nigh luminous, though fire scarce touched it: Light upon Light! Allah doth guide whom He will to His Light: Allah doth set forth Parables for men: and Allah doth know all things.
(24:40)

أَوْ  كَظُلُمَٰتٍ  فِى  بَحْرٍ  لُّجِّىٍّ  يَغْشَىٰهُ  مَوْجٌ  مِّن  فَوْقِهِۦ  مَوْجٌ  مِّن  فَوْقِهِۦ  سَحَابٌ  ظُلُمَٰتٌۢ  بَعْضُهَا  فَوْقَ  بَعْضٍ  إِذَآ  أَخْرَجَ  يَدَهُۥ  لَمْ  يَكَدْ  يَرَىٰهَا  وَمَن  لَّمْ  يَجْعَلِ  ٱللَّـهُ  لَهُۥ  نُورًا  فَمَا  لَهُۥ  مِن  نُّورٍ aw kaẓulumātin baḥrin llujjiyyin yaghshahu mawjun min fawqihi mawjun min fawqihi saḥābun ẓulumātun baʿḍuhā fawqa baʿḍin idhā akhraja yadahu lam yakad yarahā wa‑man lam yajʿali allāhu lahu nūran fa‑mā lahu min nnūrin
Or (the Unbelievers' state) is like the depths of darkness in a vast deep ocean, overwhelmed with billow topped by billow, topped by (dark) clouds: depths of darkness, one above another: if a man stretches out his hands, he can hardly see it! for any to whom Allah giveth not light, there is no light!
(24:43)

أَلَمْ  تَرَ  أَنَّ  ٱللَّـهَ  يُزْجِى  سَحَابًا  ثُمَّ  يُؤَلِّفُ  بَيْنَهُۥ  ثُمَّ  يَجْعَلُهُۥ  رُكَامًا  فَتَرَى  ٱلْوَدْقَ  يَخْرُجُ  مِنْ  خِلَٰلِهِۦ  وَيُنَزِّلُ  مِنَ  ٱلسَّمَآءِ  مِن  جِبَالٍ  فِيهَا  مِنۢ  بَرَدٍ  فَيُصِيبُ  بِهِۦ  مَن  يَشَآءُ  وَيَصْرِفُهُۥ  عَن  مَّن  يَشَآءُ  يَكَادُ  سَنَا  بَرْقِهِۦ  يَذْهَبُ  بِٱلْأَبْصَٰرِ a‑lam tara annā allāha yuzjī saḥāban thumma yuʾallifu baynahu thumma yajʿaluhu rukāman fatarā l‑wadqa yakhruju min khilālihi wa‑yunazzilu mina l‑samāʾi min jibālin fīhā min baradin fa‑yuṣību bihi man yashāʾu wa‑yaṣrifuhu ʿan man yashāʾu yakādu sanā barqihi yadhhabu bil‑abṣāri
Seest thou not that Allah makes the clouds move gently, then joins them together, then makes them into a heap? - then wilt thou see rain issue forth from their midst. And He sends down from the sky mountain masses (of clouds) wherein is hail: He strikes therewith whom He pleases and He turns it away from whom He pleases, the vivid flash of His lightning well-nigh blinds the sight.

Surah 25 al-Furqān (The Criterion)
(25:42)

إِن  كَادَ  لَيُضِلُّنَا  عَنْ  ءَالِهَتِنَا  لَوْلَآ  أَن  صَبَرْنَا  عَلَيْهَا  وَسَوْفَ  يَعْلَمُونَ  حِينَ  يَرَوْنَ  ٱلْعَذَابَ  مَنْ  أَضَلُّ  سَبِيلًا in kāda la‑yuḍillunā ʿan ālihatinā lawlā an ṣabarnā ʿalayhā wa‑sawfa yaʿlamūna ḥīna yarawna l‑ʿadhāba man aḍallu sabīlan
"He indeed would well-nigh have misled us from our gods, had it not been that we were constant to them!" - Soon will they know, when they see the Penalty, who it is that is most misled in Path!

Surah 28 al-Qaṣaṣ (The Narrative)
(28:10)

وَأَصْبَحَ  فُؤَادُ  أُمِّ  مُوسَىٰ  فَٰرِغًا  إِن  كَادَتْ  لَتُبْدِى  بِهِۦ  لَوْلَآ  أَن  رَّبَطْنَا  عَلَىٰ  قَلْبِهَا  لِتَكُونَ  مِنَ  ٱلْمُؤْمِنِينَ wa‑aṣbaḥa fuʾādu ummi mūsā fārighan in kādat la‑tubdī bihi lawlā an rrabaṭnā ʿalā qalbihā li‑takūna mina l‑muʾminīna
But there came to be a void in the heart of the mother of Moses: She was going almost to disclose his (case), had We not strengthened her heart (with faith), so that she might remain a (firm) believer.

Surah 42 al-Shūrā (The Counsel)
(42:5)

تَكَادُ  ٱلسَّمَٰوَٰتُ  يَتَفَطَّرْنَ  مِن  فَوْقِهِنَّ  وَٱلْمَلَٰٓئِكَةُ  يُسَبِّحُونَ  بِحَمْدِ  رَبِّهِمْ  وَيَسْتَغْفِرُونَ  لِمَن  فِى  ٱلْأَرْضِ  أَلَآ  إِنَّ  ٱللَّـهَ  هُوَ  ٱلْغَفُورُ  ٱلرَّحِيمُ takādu l‑samāwātu yaṭafaṭṭarna min fawqihinna wa‑l‑malāʾikatu yusabbiḥūna bi‑ḥamdi rabbihim wa‑yastaghfirūna li‑man l‑arḍi āla inna allāha huwa l‑ghafūru l‑raḥīmu
The heavens are almost rent asunder from above them (by Him Glory): and the angels celebrate the Praises of their Lord, and pray for forgiveness for (all) beings on earth: Behold! Verily Allah is He, the Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful.

Surah 43 al-Zukhruf (The Embellishment)
(43:52)

Surah 67 al-Mulk (The Kingdom)

Surah 68 al-Qalam (The Pen)
(68:51)

وَإِن  يَكَادُ  ٱلَّذِينَ  كَفَرُوا۟  لَيُزْلِقُونَكَ  بِأَبْصَٰرِهِمْ  لَمَّا  سَمِعُوا۟  ٱلذِّكْرَ  وَيَقُولُونَ  إِنَّهُۥ  لَمَجْنُونٌ wa‑in yakādu lladhīna kafarū la‑yuzliqūnaka bi‑abṣārihim lammā samiʿū l‑dhikrā wa‑yaqūlūna innahu la‑majnūnun
And the Unbelievers would almost trip thee up with their eyes when they hear the Message; and they say: "Surely he is possessed!"

Surah 72 al-Jinn (The Jinn)
(72:19)
