Sura al-Baqara 2:231

وَإِذَا طَلَّقْتُمُ ٱلنِّسَآءَ فَبَلَغْنَ أَجَلَهُنَّ فَأَمْسِكُوهُنَّ بِمَعْرُوفٍ أَوْ سَرِّحُوهُنَّ بِمَعْرُوفٍ وَلَا تُمْسِكُوهُنَّ ضِرَارًا لِّتَعْتَدُوا۟ وَمَن يَفْعَلْ ذَٰلِكَ فَقَدْ ظَلَمَ نَفْسَهُۥ وَلَا تَتَّخِذُوٓا۟ ءَايَٰتِ ٱللَّـهِ هُزُوًا وَٱذْكُرُوا۟ نِعْمَتَ ٱللَّـهِ عَلَيْكُمْ وَمَآ أَنزَلَ عَلَيْكُم مِّنَ ٱلْكِتَٰبِ وَٱلْحِكْمَةِ يَعِظُكُم بِهِۦ وَٱتَّقُوا۟ ٱللَّـهَ وَٱعْلَمُوٓا۟ أَنَّ ٱللَّـهَ بِكُلِّ شَىْءٍ عَلِيمٌ

wa-idhā ṭallaqtumu l-nisāʾa fa-balaghna ajalahunna fa-amsikūhunna bi-maʿrūfin aw sarriḥūhunna bi-maʿrūfin wa-lā tumsikūhunna ḍirāran la-taʿtadū wa-man yafʿal dhālika fa-qad ẓalama nafsahu wa-lā tattakhidhū āyāti allāhi huzuwan wa-idhkurū niʿmata allāhi ʿalaykum wa-mā anzala ʿalaykum mina l-kitābi wa-l-ḥikmati yaʿiẓukum bihi wa-ittaqū allāha wa-iʿlamū annā allāha bi-kulli shayʾin ʿalīmun

When ye divorce women, and they fulfil the term of their ('Iddat), either take them back on equitable terms or set them free on equitable terms; but do not take them back to injure them, (or) to take undue advantage; if any one does that; He wrongs his own soul. Do not treat Allah's Signs as a jest, but solemnly rehearse Allah's favours on you, and the fact that He sent down to you the Book and Wisdom, for your instruction. And fear Allah, and know that Allah is well acquainted with all things.

Sura al-Baqara 2:256

لَآ إِكْرَاهَ فِى ٱلدِّينِ قَد تَّبَيَّنَ ٱلرُّشْدُ مِنَ ٱلْغَىِّ فَمَن يَكْفُرْ بِٱلطَّٰغُوتِ وَيُؤْمِنۢ بِٱللَّـهِ فَقَدِ ٱسْتَمْسَكَ بِٱلْعُرْوَةِ ٱلْوُثْقَىٰ لَا ٱنفِصَامَ لَهَا وَٱللَّـهُ سَمِيعٌ عَلِيمٌ

lā ikrāha fī l-dīni qad tabayyana l-rushdu mina l-ghayyi fa-man yakfur bil-ṭāghūti wa-yuʾmin billāhi fa-qadi istamsaka bil-ʿurwati l-wuthqā lā infiṣāma lahā wallāhu samīʿun ʿalīmun

Let there be no compulsion in religion: Truth stands out clear from Error: whoever rejects evil and believes in Allah hath grasped the most trustworthy hand-hold, that never breaks. And Allah heareth and knoweth all things.

Sura al-Nisāʾ 4:15

وَٱلَّٰتِى يَأْتِينَ ٱلْفَٰحِشَةَ مِن نِّسَآئِكُمْ فَٱسْتَشْهِدُوا۟ عَلَيْهِنَّ أَرْبَعَةً مِّنكُمْ فَإِن شَهِدُوا۟ فَأَمْسِكُوهُنَّ فِى ٱلْبُيُوتِ حَتَّىٰ يَتَوَفَّىٰهُنَّ ٱلْمَوْتُ أَوْ يَجْعَلَ ٱللَّـهُ لَهُنَّ سَبِيلًا

wa-allātī yaʾtīna l-fāḥishata min nasāʾikum fa-istashhidū ʿalayhinna arbaʿatan minkum fa-in shahidū fa-amsikūhunna fī l-buyūti ḥattā yatawaffahunna l-mawtu aw yajʿala allāhu la-hunna sabīlan

If any of your women are guilty of lewdness, Take the evidence of four (Reliable) witnesses from amongst you against them; and if they testify, confine them to houses until death do claim them, or Allah ordain for them some (other) way.

Sura al-Māʾidah 5:4

يَسْـَٔلُونَكَ مَاذَآ أُحِلَّ لَهُمْ قُلْ أُحِلَّ لَكُمُ ٱلطَّيِّبَٰتُ وَمَا عَلَّمْتُم مِّنَ ٱلْجَوَارِحِ مُكَلِّبِينَ تُعَلِّمُونَهُنَّ مِمَّا عَلَّمَكُمُ ٱللَّـهُ فَكُلُوا۟ مِمَّآ أَمْسَكْنَ عَلَيْكُمْ وَٱذْكُرُوا۟ ٱسْمَ ٱللَّـهِ عَلَيْهِ وَٱتَّقُوا۟ ٱللَّـهَ إِنَّ ٱللَّـهَ سَرِيعُ ٱلْحِسَابِ

yasʾalūnaka mādhā uḥilla lahum qul uḥilla lakumu l-ṭayyibātu wa-mā ʿallamtum mina l-jawāriḥi mukallibīna tuʿallimūnahunna mimmā ʿallamakumu allāhu fa-kulū mimmā amsakna ʿalaykum wa-idhkurū isma allāhi ʿalayhi wa-ittaqū allāha inna allāha sarīʿu l-ḥisābi

They ask thee what is lawful to them (as food). Say: lawful unto you are (all) things good and pure: and what ye have taught your trained hunting animals (to catch) in the manner directed to you by Allah: eat what they catch for you, but pronounce the name of Allah over it: and fear Allah; for Allah is swift in taking account.

Sura al-Aʿrāf 7:170

وَٱلَّذِينَ يُمَسِّكُونَ بِٱلْكِتَٰبِ وَأَقَامُوا۟ ٱلصَّلَوٰةَ إِنَّا لَا نُضِيعُ أَجْرَ ٱلْمُصْلِحِينَ

wa-lladhīna yumassikūna bil-kitābi wa-aqāmū l-ṣalāta innā lā nuḍīʿu ajra l-muṣliḥīna

As to those who hold fast by the Book and establish regular prayer,- never shall We suffer the reward of the righteous to perish.

Sura al-Naḥl 16:59

يَتَوَٰرَىٰ مِنَ ٱلْقَوْمِ مِن سُوٓءِ مَا بُشِّرَ بِهِۦٓ أَيُمْسِكُهُۥ عَلَىٰ هُونٍ أَمْ يَدُسُّهُۥ فِى ٱلتُّرَابِ أَلَا سَآءَ مَا يَحْكُمُونَ

yatawāra mina l-qawmi min sūi mā bushshira bihi ayumsikuhu ʿalā hūnin am yadussuhu fī l-turābi āla sāa mā yaḥkumūna

With shame does he hide himself from his people, because of the bad news he has had! Shall he retain it on (sufferance and) contempt, or bury it in the dust? Ah! what an evil (choice) they decide on?

Sura al-Naḥl 16:79

أَلَمْ يَرَوْا۟ إِلَى ٱلطَّيْرِ مُسَخَّرَٰتٍ فِى جَوِّ ٱلسَّمَآءِ مَا يُمْسِكُهُنَّ إِلَّا ٱللَّـهُ إِنَّ فِى ذَٰلِكَ لَءَايَٰتٍ لِّقَوْمٍ يُؤْمِنُونَ

a-lam yaraw ilā l-ṭayri musakhkharātin fī jawwi l-samāʾi mā yumsikuhunna illā allāhu inna fī dhālika la-āyātin li-qawmin yuʾminūna

Do they not look at the birds, held poised in the midst of (the air and) the sky? Nothing holds them up but (the power of) Allah. Verily in this are signs for those who believe.

Sura al-Isrāʾ 17:100

قُل لَّوْ أَنتُمْ تَمْلِكُونَ خَزَآئِنَ رَحْمَةِ رَبِّىٓ إِذًا لَّأَمْسَكْتُمْ خَشْيَةَ ٱلْإِنفَاقِ وَكَانَ ٱلْإِنسَٰنُ قَتُورًا

qul law antum tamlikūna khazāʾina raḥmati rabbī idhan la-amsaktum khashyata l-infāqi wa-kāna l-insānu qatūran

Say: "If ye had control of the Treasures of the Mercy of my Lord, behold, ye would keep them back, for fear of spending them: for man is (every) niggardly!"

Sura al-Ḥajj 22:65

أَلَمْ تَرَ أَنَّ ٱللَّـهَ سَخَّرَ لَكُم مَّا فِى ٱلْأَرْضِ وَٱلْفُلْكَ تَجْرِى فِى ٱلْبَحْرِ بِأَمْرِهِۦ وَيُمْسِكُ ٱلسَّمَآءَ أَن تَقَعَ عَلَى ٱلْأَرْضِ إِلَّا بِإِذْنِهِۦٓ إِنَّ ٱللَّـهَ بِٱلنَّاسِ لَرَءُوفٌ رَّحِيمٌ

a-lam tara annā allāha sakhkhara la-kum mā fī l-arḍi wa-l-fulka tajrī fī l-baḥri bi-amrihi wa-yumsiku l-samāʾa an taqaʿa ʿalā l-arḍi illā bi-idhnihi inna allāha bil-nāsi la-raʾūfun raḥīmun

Seest thou not that Allah has made subject to you (men) all that is on the earth, and the ships that sail through the sea by His Command? He withholds the sky (rain) from failing on the earth except by His leave: for Allah is Most Kind and Most Merciful to man.

Sura Luqmān 31:22

وَمَن يُسْلِمْ وَجْهَهُۥٓ إِلَى ٱللَّـهِ وَهُوَ مُحْسِنٌ فَقَدِ ٱسْتَمْسَكَ بِٱلْعُرْوَةِ ٱلْوُثْقَىٰ وَإِلَى ٱللَّـهِ عَٰقِبَةُ ٱلْأُمُورِ

wa-man yuslim wajhahu ilā allāhi wa-huwa muḥsinun fa-qadi istamsaka bil-ʿurwati l-wuthqā wa-ilā allāhi ʿāqibatu l-umūri

Whoever submits his whole self to Allah, and is a doer of good, has grasped indeed the most trustworthy hand-hold: and with Allah rests the End and Decision of (all) affairs.

Sura al-Aḥzāb 33:37

وَإِذْ تَقُولُ لِلَّذِىٓ أَنْعَمَ ٱللَّـهُ عَلَيْهِ وَأَنْعَمْتَ عَلَيْهِ أَمْسِكْ عَلَيْكَ زَوْجَكَ وَٱتَّقِ ٱللَّـهَ وَتُخْفِى فِى نَفْسِكَ مَا ٱللَّـهُ مُبْدِيهِ وَتَخْشَى ٱلنَّاسَ وَٱللَّـهُ أَحَقُّ أَن تَخْشَىٰهُ فَلَمَّا قَضَىٰ زَيْدٌ مِّنْهَا وَطَرًا زَوَّجْنَٰكَهَا لِكَىْ لَا يَكُونَ عَلَى ٱلْمُؤْمِنِينَ حَرَجٌ فِىٓ أَزْوَٰجِ أَدْعِيَآئِهِمْ إِذَا قَضَوْا۟ مِنْهُنَّ وَطَرًا وَكَانَ أَمْرُ ٱللَّـهِ مَفْعُولًا

wa-idh taqūlu lilladhī anʿama allāhu ʿalayhi wa-anʿamta ʿalayhi amsik ʿalayka zawjaka wa-ittaqi allāha wa-tukhfī fī nafsika mā allāhu mubdīhi wa-takhsha l-nāsa wallāhu aḥaqqu an takhshahu fa-lammā qaḍa zaydun minhā waṭaran zawwajnākahā li-kai lā yakūna ʿalā l-muʾminīna ḥarajun fī azwāji adʿiyāʾihim idhā qaḍaw minhunna waṭaran wa-kāna amru allāhi mafʿūlan

Behold! Thou didst say to one who had received the grace of Allah and thy favour: "Retain thou (in wedlock) thy wife, and fear Allah." But thou didst hide in thy heart that which Allah was about to make manifest: thou didst fear the people, but it is more fitting that thou shouldst fear Allah. Then when Zaid had dissolved (his marriage) with her, with the necessary (formality), We joined her in marriage to thee: in order that (in future) there may be no difficulty to the Believers in (the matter of) marriage with the wives of their adopted sons, when the latter have dissolved with the necessary (formality) (their marriage) with them. And Allah's command must be fulfilled.

Sura al-Faṭīr 35:2

مَّا يَفْتَحِ ٱللَّـهُ لِلنَّاسِ مِن رَّحْمَةٍ فَلَا مُمْسِكَ لَهَا وَمَا يُمْسِكْ فَلَا مُرْسِلَ لَهُۥ مِنۢ بَعْدِهِۦ وَهُوَ ٱلْعَزِيزُ ٱلْحَكِيمُ

mā yaftaḥi allāhu lil-nāsi min rraḥmatin fa-lā mumsika lahā wa-mā yumsik fa-lā mursila lahu min baʿdihi wa-huwa l-ʿazīzu l-ḥakīmu

What Allah out of his Mercy doth bestow on mankind there is none can withhold: what He doth withhold, there is none can grant, apart from Him: and He is the Exalted in Power, full of Wisdom.

Sura al-Faṭīr 35:41

إِنَّ ٱللَّـهَ يُمْسِكُ ٱلسَّمَٰوَٰتِ وَٱلْأَرْضَ أَن تَزُولَا وَلَئِن زَالَتَآ إِنْ أَمْسَكَهُمَا مِنْ أَحَدٍ مِّنۢ بَعْدِهِۦٓ إِنَّهُۥ كَانَ حَلِيمًا غَفُورًا

inna allāha yumsiku l-samāwāti wa-l-arḍa an tazūlā wa-laʾin zālatā in amsakahumā min aḥadin min baʿdihi innahu kāna ḥalīman ghafūran

It is Allah Who sustains the heavens and the earth, lest they cease (to function): and if they should fail, there is none - not one - can sustain them thereafter: Verily He is Most Forbearing, Oft-Forgiving.

Sura Ṣād 38:39

هَٰذَا عَطَآؤُنَا فَٱمْنُنْ أَوْ أَمْسِكْ بِغَيْرِ حِسَابٍ

hādhā ʿaṭāʾunā fa-imnun aw amsik bi-ghayri ḥisābin

"Such are Our Bounties: whether thou bestow them (on others) or withhold them, no account will be asked."

Sura al-Zumar 39:42

ٱللَّـهُ يَتَوَفَّى ٱلْأَنفُسَ حِينَ مَوْتِهَا وَٱلَّتِى لَمْ تَمُتْ فِى مَنَامِهَا فَيُمْسِكُ ٱلَّتِى قَضَىٰ عَلَيْهَا ٱلْمَوْتَ وَيُرْسِلُ ٱلْأُخْرَىٰٓ إِلَىٰٓ أَجَلٍ مُّسَمًّى إِنَّ فِى ذَٰلِكَ لَءَايَٰتٍ لِّقَوْمٍ يَتَفَكَّرُونَ

allāhu yatawaffā l-anfusa ḥīna mawtihā wa-allatī lam tamut fī manāmihā fayumsiku allatī qaḍa ʿalayhā l-mawtā wa-yursilu l-ukhrā ila ajalin musamman inna fī dhālika la-āyātin li-qawmin yatafakkarūna

It is Allah that takes the souls (of men) at death; and those that die not (He takes) during their sleep: those on whom He has passed the decree of death, He keeps back (from returning to life), but the rest He sends (to their bodies) for a term appointed verily in this are Signs for those who reflect.

Sura al-Zukhruf 43:43

فَٱسْتَمْسِكْ بِٱلَّذِىٓ أُوحِىَ إِلَيْكَ إِنَّكَ عَلَىٰ صِرَٰطٍ مُّسْتَقِيمٍ

fa-istamsik bi-lladhī ūḥiya ilayka innaka ʿalā ṣirāṭin mustaqīmin

So hold thou fast to the Revelation sent down to thee; verily thou art on a Straight Way.

Sura al-Mumtaḥanah 60:10

يَٰٓأَيُّهَا ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوٓا۟ إِذَا جَآءَكُمُ ٱلْمُؤْمِنَٰتُ مُهَٰجِرَٰتٍ فَٱمْتَحِنُوهُنَّ ٱللَّـهُ أَعْلَمُ بِإِيمَٰنِهِنَّ فَإِنْ عَلِمْتُمُوهُنَّ مُؤْمِنَٰتٍ فَلَا تَرْجِعُوهُنَّ إِلَى ٱلْكُفَّارِ لَا هُنَّ حِلٌّ لَّهُمْ وَلَا هُمْ يَحِلُّونَ لَهُنَّ وَءَاتُوهُم مَّآ أَنفَقُوا۟ وَلَا جُنَاحَ عَلَيْكُمْ أَن تَنكِحُوهُنَّ إِذَآ ءَاتَيْتُمُوهُنَّ أُجُورَهُنَّ وَلَا تُمْسِكُوا۟ بِعِصَمِ ٱلْكَوَافِرِ وَسْـَٔلُوا۟ مَآ أَنفَقْتُمْ وَلْيَسْـَٔلُوا۟ مَآ أَنفَقُوا۟ ذَٰلِكُمْ حُكْمُ ٱللَّـهِ يَحْكُمُ بَيْنَكُمْ وَٱللَّـهُ عَلِيمٌ حَكِيمٌ

yā-ayyuhā lladhīna āmanū idhā jāakumu l-muʾminātu muhājirātin famtaḥinūhunna allāhu aʿlamu biīmānihinna fa-in ʿalimtumūhunna muminatin fa-lā tarjiʿūhunna ilā l-kuffāri lā hunna ḥillun lahum wa-lā hum yaḥillūna la-hunna wa-ātūhum mā anfaqū wa-lā junāḥa ʿalaykum an tankiḥūhunna idhā ātaytumūhunna ujūrahunna wa-lā tumsikū biʿiṣami l-kawāfiri wa-salū mā anfaqtum wa-l-yasʾalū mā anfaqū dhālikum ḥukmu allāhi yaḥkumu baynakum wallāhu ʿalīmun ḥakīmun

O ye who believe! When there come to you believing women refugees, examine (and test) them: Allah knows best as to their Faith: if ye ascertain that they are Believers, then send them not back to the Unbelievers. They are not lawful (wives) for the Unbelievers, nor are the (Unbelievers) lawful (husbands) for them. But pay the Unbelievers what they have spent (on their dower), and there will be no blame on you if ye marry them on payment of their dower to them. But hold not to the guardianship of unbelieving women: ask for what ye have spent on their dowers, and let the (Unbelievers) ask for what they have spent (on the dowers of women who come over to you). Such is the command of Allah: He judges (with justice) between you. And Allah is Full of Knowledge and Wisdom.

Sura al-Ṭalāq 65:2

فَإِذَا بَلَغْنَ أَجَلَهُنَّ فَأَمْسِكُوهُنَّ بِمَعْرُوفٍ أَوْ فَارِقُوهُنَّ بِمَعْرُوفٍ وَأَشْهِدُوا۟ ذَوَىْ عَدْلٍ مِّنكُمْ وَأَقِيمُوا۟ ٱلشَّهَٰدَةَ لِلَّـهِ ذَٰلِكُمْ يُوعَظُ بِهِۦ مَن كَانَ يُؤْمِنُ بِٱللَّـهِ وَٱلْيَوْمِ ٱلْأَخِرِ وَمَن يَتَّقِ ٱللَّـهَ يَجْعَل لَّهُۥ مَخْرَجًا

fa-idhā balaghna ajalahunna fa-amsikūhunna bi-maʿrūfin aw fāriqūhunna bi-maʿrūfin wa-ashhidū dhawa ʿadlin minkum wa-aqīmū l-shahādata lillāhi dhālikum yūʿaẓu bihi man kāna yuʾminū billāhi wa-l-yawmi l-akhiri wa-man yattaqi allāha yajʿal lahu makhrajan

Thus when they fulfil their term appointed, either take them back on equitable terms or part with them on equitable terms; and take for witness two persons from among you, endued with justice, and establish the evidence (as) before Allah. Such is the admonition given to him who believes in Allah and the Last Day. And for those who fear Allah, He (ever) prepares a way out,

Sura al-Mulk 67:19

أَوَلَمْ يَرَوْا۟ إِلَى ٱلطَّيْرِ فَوْقَهُمْ صَٰٓفَّٰتٍ وَيَقْبِضْنَ مَا يُمْسِكُهُنَّ إِلَّا ٱلرَّحْمَٰنُ إِنَّهُۥ بِكُلِّ شَىْءٍۭ بَصِيرٌ

a-wa-lam yaraw ilā l-ṭayri fawqahum ṣāffātin wa-yaqbiḍna mā yumsikuhunna illā l-raḥmānu innahu bi-kulli shayʾin baṣīrun

Do they not observe the birds above them, spreading their wings and folding them in? None can uphold them except (Allah) Most Gracious: Truly (Allah) Most Gracious: Truly it is He that watches over all things.

Sura al-Mulk 67:21

أَمَّنْ هَٰذَا ٱلَّذِى يَرْزُقُكُمْ إِنْ أَمْسَكَ رِزْقَهُۥ بَل لَّجُّوا۟ فِى عُتُوٍّ وَنُفُورٍ

a-man hādhā alladhī yarzuqukum in amsaka rizqahu bal lajjū fī ʿutuwwin wa-nufūrin

Or who is there that can provide you with Sustenance if He were to withhold His provision? Nay, they obstinately persist in insolent impiety and flight (from the Truth).
