Surah 4 al-Nisāʾ (The Women)
RefArabic    TransliterationTranslation
(4:11)

يُوصِيكُمُ  ٱللَّـهُ  فِىٓ  أَوْلَٰدِكُمْ  لِلذَّكَرِ  مِثْلُ  حَظِّ  ٱلْأُنثَيَيْنِ  فَإِن  كُنَّ  نِسَآءً  فَوْقَ  ٱثْنَتَيْنِ  فَلَهُنَّ  ثُلُثَا  مَا  تَرَكَ  وَإِن  كَانَتْ  وَٰحِدَةً  فَلَهَا  ٱلنِّصْفُ  وَلِأَبَوَيْهِ  لِكُلِّ  وَٰحِدٍ  مِّنْهُمَا  ٱلسُّدُسُ  مِمَّا  تَرَكَ  إِن  كَانَ  لَهُۥ  وَلَدٌ  فَإِن  لَّمْ  يَكُن  لَّهُۥ  وَلَدٌ  وَوَرِثَهُۥٓ  أَبَوَاهُ  فَلِأُمِّهِ  ٱلثُّلُثُ  فَإِن  كَانَ  لَهُۥٓ  إِخْوَةٌ  فَلِأُمِّهِ  ٱلسُّدُسُ  مِنۢ  بَعْدِ  وَصِيَّةٍ  يُوصِى  بِهَآ  أَوْ  دَيْنٍ  ءَابَآؤُكُمْ  وَأَبْنَآؤُكُمْ  لَا  تَدْرُونَ  أَيُّهُمْ  أَقْرَبُ  لَكُمْ  نَفْعًا  فَرِيضَةً  مِّنَ  ٱللَّـهِ  إِنَّ  ٱللَّـهَ  كَانَ  عَلِيمًا  حَكِيمًا yūṣīkumu allāhu awlādikum lil‑dhakari mithlu ḥaẓẓi l‑unthayayni fa‑in kunna nisāʾan fawqa ithnatayni fa‑la‑hunna thuluthā taraka wa‑in kānat wāḥidatan fa‑lahā l‑niṣfu wa‑li‑abawayhi li‑kulli wāḥidin minhumā l‑sudusu mimmā taraka in kāna lahu waladun fa‑in lam yakun lahu waladun wa‑warithahu abawāhu fa‑li‑ummihi l‑thuluthu fa‑in kāna lahu ikhwatun fa‑li‑ummihi l‑sudusu min baʿdi waṣīyatin yūṣī bihā aw daynin ābāʾukum wa‑abnāʾukum tadrūna ayyuhum aqrabu la‑kum nafʿan farīḍatan mina allāhi inna allāha kāna ʿalīman ḥakīman
Allah (thus) directs you as regards your Children's (Inheritance): to the male, a portion equal to that of two females: if only daughters, two or more, their share is two-thirds of the inheritance; if only one, her share is a half. For parents, a sixth share of the inheritance to each, if the deceased left children; if no children, and the parents are the (only) heirs, the mother has a third; if the deceased Left brothers (or sisters) the mother has a sixth. (The distribution in all cases ('s) after the payment of legacies and debts. Ye know not whether your parents or your children are nearest to you in benefit. These are settled portions ordained by Allah; and Allah is All-knowing, Al-wise.
(4:12)

وَلَكُمْ  نِصْفُ  مَا  تَرَكَ  أَزْوَٰجُكُمْ  إِن  لَّمْ  يَكُن  لَّهُنَّ  وَلَدٌ  فَإِن  كَانَ  لَهُنَّ  وَلَدٌ  فَلَكُمُ  ٱلرُّبُعُ  مِمَّا  تَرَكْنَ  مِنۢ  بَعْدِ  وَصِيَّةٍ  يُوصِينَ  بِهَآ  أَوْ  دَيْنٍ  وَلَهُنَّ  ٱلرُّبُعُ  مِمَّا  تَرَكْتُمْ  إِن  لَّمْ  يَكُن  لَّكُمْ  وَلَدٌ  فَإِن  كَانَ  لَكُمْ  وَلَدٌ  فَلَهُنَّ  ٱلثُّمُنُ  مِمَّا  تَرَكْتُم  مِّنۢ  بَعْدِ  وَصِيَّةٍ  تُوصُونَ  بِهَآ  أَوْ  دَيْنٍ  وَإِن  كَانَ  رَجُلٌ  يُورَثُ  كَلَٰلَةً  أَوِ  ٱمْرَأَةٌ  وَلَهُۥٓ  أَخٌ  أَوْ  أُخْتٌ  فَلِكُلِّ  وَٰحِدٍ  مِّنْهُمَا  ٱلسُّدُسُ  فَإِن  كَانُوٓا۟  أَكْثَرَ  مِن  ذَٰلِكَ  فَهُمْ  شُرَكَآءُ  فِى  ٱلثُّلُثِ  مِنۢ  بَعْدِ  وَصِيَّةٍ  يُوصَىٰ  بِهَآ  أَوْ  دَيْنٍ  غَيْرَ  مُضَآرٍّ  وَصِيَّةً  مِّنَ  ٱللَّـهِ  وَٱللَّـهُ  عَلِيمٌ  حَلِيمٌ wa‑lakum niṣfu taraka azwājukum in lam yakun lahunna waladun fa‑in kāna la‑hunna waladun falakumu l‑rubuʿu mimmā tarakna min baʿdi waṣīyatin yūṣīna bihā aw daynin wa‑lahunna l‑rubuʿu mimmā taraktum in lam yakun la‑kum waladun fa‑in kāna la‑kum waladun fa‑la‑hunna l‑thumunu mimmā taraktum min baʿdi waṣīyatin tūṣūna bihā aw daynin wa‑in kāna rajulun yūrathu kalālatan awi imraʾatun wa‑lahu akhun aw ukhtun falikulli wāḥidin minhumā l‑sudusu fa‑in kānū akthara min dhālika fa‑hum shurakāʾu l‑thuluthi min baʿdi waṣīyatin yūṣa bihā aw daynin ghayra muḍārrin waṣīyatan mina allāhi wallāhu ʿalīmun ḥalīmun
In what your wives leave, your share is a half, if they leave no child; but if they leave a child, ye get a fourth; after payment of legacies and debts. In what ye leave, their share is a fourth, if ye leave no child; but if ye leave a child, they get an eighth; after payment of legacies and debts. If the man or woman whose inheritance is in question, has left neither ascendants nor descendants, but has left a brother or a sister, each one of the two gets a sixth; but if more than two, they share in a third; after payment of legacies and debts; so that no loss is caused (to any one). Thus is it ordained by Allah; and Allah is All-knowing, Most Forbearing.
(4:19)

O ye who believe! Ye are forbidden to inherit women against their will. Nor should ye treat them with harshness, that ye may Take away part of the dower ye have given them,-except where they have been guilty of open lewdness; on the contrary live with them on a footing of kindness and equity. If ye take a dislike to them it may be that ye dislike a thing, and Allah brings about through it a great deal of good.
(4:176)

يَسْتَفْتُونَكَ  قُلِ  ٱللَّـهُ  يُفْتِيكُمْ  فِى  ٱلْكَلَٰلَةِ  إِنِ  ٱمْرُؤٌا۟  هَلَكَ  لَيْسَ  لَهُۥ  وَلَدٌ  وَلَهُۥٓ  أُخْتٌ  فَلَهَا  نِصْفُ  مَا  تَرَكَ  وَهُوَ  يَرِثُهَآ  إِن  لَّمْ  يَكُن  لَّهَا  وَلَدٌ  فَإِن  كَانَتَا  ٱثْنَتَيْنِ  فَلَهُمَا  ٱلثُّلُثَانِ  مِمَّا  تَرَكَ  وَإِن  كَانُوٓا۟  إِخْوَةً  رِّجَالًا  وَنِسَآءً  فَلِلذَّكَرِ  مِثْلُ  حَظِّ  ٱلْأُنثَيَيْنِ  يُبَيِّنُ  ٱللَّـهُ  لَكُمْ  أَن  تَضِلُّوا۟  وَٱللَّـهُ  بِكُلِّ  شَىْءٍ  عَلِيمٌۢ yastaftūnaka quli allāhu yuftīkum l‑kalālati ini imrūʾun halaka laysa lahu waladun wa‑lahu ukhtun fa‑lahā niṣfu taraka wa‑huwa yarithuhā in lam yakun llahā waladun fa‑in kānatā ithnatayni falahumā l‑thuluthāni mimmā taraka wa‑in kānū ikhwatan rrijālan wa‑nisāan fa‑lil‑dhakari mithlu ḥaẓẓi l‑unthayayni yubayyinu allāhu la‑kum an taḍillū wallāhu bi‑kulli shayʾin ʿalīmun
They ask thee for a legal decision. Say: Allah directs (thus) about those who leave no descendants or ascendants as heirs. If it is a man that dies, leaving a sister but no child, she shall have half the inheritance: If (such a deceased was) a woman, who left no child, Her brother takes her inheritance: If there are two sisters, they shall have two-thirds of the inheritance (between them): if there are brothers and sisters, (they share), the male having twice the share of the female. Thus doth Allah make clear to you (His law), lest ye err. And Allah hath knowledge of all things.

Surah 7 al-Aʿrāf (The Heights)
(7:43)

وَنَزَعْنَا  مَا  فِى  صُدُورِهِم  مِّنْ  غِلٍّ  تَجْرِى  مِن  تَحْتِهِمُ  ٱلْأَنْهَٰرُ  وَقَالُوا۟  ٱلْحَمْدُ  لِلَّـهِ  ٱلَّذِى  هَدَىٰنَا  لِهَٰذَا  وَمَا  كُنَّا  لِنَهْتَدِىَ  لَوْلَآ  أَنْ  هَدَىٰنَا  ٱللَّـهُ  لَقَدْ  جَآءَتْ  رُسُلُ  رَبِّنَا  بِٱلْحَقِّ  وَنُودُوٓا۟  أَن  تِلْكُمُ  ٱلْجَنَّةُ  أُورِثْتُمُوهَا  بِمَا  كُنتُمْ  تَعْمَلُونَ wanazaʿnā ṣudūrihim min ghillin tajrī min taḥtihimu l‑anhāru wa‑qālū l‑ḥamdu lillāhi alladhī hadanā li‑hādhā wa‑mā kunnā li‑nahtadiya lawlā an hadanā allāhu la‑qad jāʾat rusulu rabbinā bil‑ḥaqqi wa‑nūdū an tilkumu l‑jannatu ūrithtumūhā bi‑mā kuntum taʿmalūna
And We shall remove from their hearts any lurking sense of injury;- beneath them will be rivers flowing;- and they shall say: "Praise be to Allah, who hath guided us to this (felicity): never could we have found guidance, had it not been for the guidance of Allah: indeed it was the truth, that the messengers of our Lord brought unto us." And they shall hear the cry: "Behold! the garden before you! Ye have been made its inheritors, for your deeds (of righteousness)."
(7:100)

أَوَلَمْ  يَهْدِ  لِلَّذِينَ  يَرِثُونَ  ٱلْأَرْضَ  مِنۢ  بَعْدِ  أَهْلِهَآ  أَن  لَّوْ  نَشَآءُ  أَصَبْنَٰهُم  بِذُنُوبِهِمْ  وَنَطْبَعُ  عَلَىٰ  قُلُوبِهِمْ  فَهُمْ  لَا  يَسْمَعُونَ a‑wa‑lam yahdi li‑lladhīna yarithūna l‑arḍa min baʿdi ahlihā an law nashāʾu aṣabnāhum bi‑dhunūbihim wa‑naṭbaʿu ʿalā qulūbihim fa‑hum yasmaʿūna
To those who inherit the earth in succession to its (previous) possessors, is it not a guiding, (lesson) that, if We so willed, We could punish them (too) for their sins, and seal up their hearts so that they could not hear?
(7:128)

قَالَ  مُوسَىٰ  لِقَوْمِهِ  ٱسْتَعِينُوا۟  بِٱللَّـهِ  وَٱصْبِرُوٓا۟  إِنَّ  ٱلْأَرْضَ  لِلَّـهِ  يُورِثُهَا  مَن  يَشَآءُ  مِنْ  عِبَادِهِۦ  وَٱلْعَٰقِبَةُ  لِلْمُتَّقِينَ qalā mūsā li‑qawmihi astaʿīnū billāhi wa‑iṣbirū inna l‑arḍa lillāhi yūrithuhā man yashāʾu min ʿibādihi wal‑ʿāqibatu lil‑muttaqīna
Said Moses to his people: "Pray for help from Allah, and (wait) in patience and constancy: for the earth is Allah's, to give as a heritage to such of His servants as He pleaseth; and the end is (best) for the righteous.
(7:137)

And We made a people, considered weak (and of no account), inheritors of lands in both east and west, - lands whereon We sent down Our blessings. The fair promise of thy Lord was fulfilled for the Children of Israel, because they had patience and constancy, and We levelled to the ground the great works and fine buildings which Pharaoh and his people erected (with such pride).
(7:169)

فَخَلَفَ  مِنۢ  بَعْدِهِمْ  خَلْفٌ  وَرِثُوا۟  ٱلْكِتَٰبَ  يَأْخُذُونَ  عَرَضَ  هَٰذَا  ٱلْأَدْنَىٰ  وَيَقُولُونَ  سَيُغْفَرُ  لَنَا  وَإِن  يَأْتِهِمْ  عَرَضٌ  مِّثْلُهُۥ  يَأْخُذُوهُ  أَلَمْ  يُؤْخَذْ  عَلَيْهِم  مِّيثَٰقُ  ٱلْكِتَٰبِ  أَن  لَّا  يَقُولُوا۟  عَلَى  ٱللَّـهِ  إِلَّا  ٱلْحَقَّ  وَدَرَسُوا۟  مَا  فِيهِ  وَٱلدَّارُ  ٱلْأَخِرَةُ  خَيْرٌ  لِّلَّذِينَ  يَتَّقُونَ  أَفَلَا  تَعْقِلُونَ fa‑khalafa min baʿdihim khalfun warithū l‑kitāba yakhudhūna ʿaraḍa hādhā l‑adnā wa‑yaqūlūna sa‑yughfaru la‑nā wa‑in yaʾtihim ʿaraḍun mithluhu yakhudhūhu a‑lam yukhadh ʿalayhim mīthāqu l‑kitābi an yaqūlū ʿalā allāhi illā l‑ḥaqqa wa‑darasū fīhi wa‑l‑dāru l‑akhiratu khayrun li‑lladhīna yattaqūna a‑fa‑lā taʿqilūna
After them succeeded an (evil) generation: They inherited the Book, but they chose (for themselves) the vanities of this world, saying (for excuse): "(Everything) will be forgiven us." (Even so), if similar vanities came their way, they would (again) seize them. Was not the covenant of the Book taken from them, that they would not ascribe to Allah anything but the truth? and they study what is in the Book. But best for the righteous is the home in the Hereafter. Will ye not understand?

Surah 19 Maryam (Mary)
(19:6)

"(One that) will (truly) represent me, and represent the posterity of Jacob; and make him, O my Lord! one with whom Thou art well-pleased!"
(19:40)

إِنَّا  نَحْنُ  نَرِثُ  ٱلْأَرْضَ  وَمَنْ  عَلَيْهَا  وَإِلَيْنَا  يُرْجَعُونَ innā naḥnu narithu l‑arḍa wa‑man ʿalayhā wa‑ilaynā yurjaʿūna
It is We Who will inherit the earth, and all beings thereon: to Us will they all be returned.
(19:63)

تِلْكَ  ٱلْجَنَّةُ  ٱلَّتِى  نُورِثُ  مِنْ  عِبَادِنَا  مَن  كَانَ  تَقِيًّا tilka l‑jannatu allatī nūrithu min ʿibādinā man kāna taqiyyan
Such is the Garden which We give as an inheritance to those of Our servants who guard against Evil.
(19:80)

To Us shall return all that he talks of and he shall appear before Us bare and alone.

Surah 21 al-Anbiyāʾ (The Prophets)
(21:105)

Before this We wrote in the Psalms, after the Message (given to Moses): My servants the righteous, shall inherit the earth."

Surah 23 al-Muʾminūn (The Believers)
(23:11)

Who will inherit Paradise: they will dwell therein (for ever).

Surah 26 al-Shuʿarā (The Poets)
(26:59)

كَذَٰلِكَ  وَأَوْرَثْنَٰهَا  بَنِىٓ  إِسْرَٰٓءِيلَ ka‑dhālika wa‑awrathnāhā banī isrāʾīla
Thus it was, but We made the Children of Israel inheritors of such things.

Surah 27 al-Naml (The Ant)
(27:16)

وَوَرِثَ  سُلَيْمَٰنُ  دَاوُۥدَ  وَقَالَ  يَٰٓأَيُّهَا  ٱلنَّاسُ  عُلِّمْنَا  مَنطِقَ  ٱلطَّيْرِ  وَأُوتِينَا  مِن  كُلِّ  شَىْءٍ  إِنَّ  هَٰذَا  لَهُوَ  ٱلْفَضْلُ  ٱلْمُبِينُ wa‑waritha sulaymānu dāwuda wa‑qāla yā‑ayyuhā l‑nāsu ʿullimnā manṭiqa l‑ṭayri wa‑ūtīnā min kulli shayʾin inna hādhā la‑huwa l‑faḍlu l‑mubīnu
And Solomon was David's heir. He said: "O ye people! We have been taught the speech of birds, and on us has been bestowed (a little) of all things: this is indeed Grace manifest (from Allah.)"

Surah 33 al-Aḥzāb (The Allies)
(33:27)

وَأَوْرَثَكُمْ  أَرْضَهُمْ  وَدِيَٰرَهُمْ  وَأَمْوَٰلَهُمْ  وَأَرْضًا  لَّمْ  تَطَـُٔوهَا  وَكَانَ  ٱللَّـهُ  عَلَىٰ  كُلِّ  شَىْءٍ  قَدِيرًا wa‑awrathakum arḍahum wa‑diyārahum wa‑amwālahum wa‑arḍan lam taṭaʾūhā wa‑kāna allāhu ʿalā kulli shayʾin qadīran
And He made you heirs of their lands, their houses, and their goods, and of a land which ye had not frequented (before). And Allah has power over all things.

Surah 35 al-Faṭīr (The Creator)
(35:32)

Then We have given the Book for inheritance to such of Our Servants as We have chosen: but there are among them some who wrong their own souls; some who follow a middle course; and some who are, by Allah's leave, foremost in good deeds; that is the highest Grace.

Surah 39 al-Zumar (The Companies)
(39:74)

They will say: "Praise be to Allah, Who has truly fulfilled His Promise to us, and has given us (this) land in heritage: We can dwell in the Garden as we will: how excellent a reward for those who work (righteousness)!"

Surah 40 al-Ghāfir (The Forgiving One)
(40:53)

We did aforetime give Moses the (Book of) Guidance, and We gave the book in inheritance to the Children of Israel,-

Surah 42 al-Shūrā (The Counsel)
(42:14)

And they became divided only after Knowledge reached them,- through selfish envy as between themselves. Had it not been for a Word that went forth before from thy Lord, (tending) to a Term appointed, the matter would have been settled between them: But truly those who have inherited the Book after them are in suspicious (disquieting) doubt concerning it.

Surah 43 al-Zukhruf (The Embellishment)
(43:72)

Such will be the Garden of which ye are made heirs for your (good) deeds (in life).

Surah 44 al-Dukhān (The Evident Smoke)
(44:28)

Thus (was their end)! And We made other people inherit (those things)!
