Surah 2 al-Baqara (The Cow)
RefArabic    TransliterationTranslation
(2:156)

Who say, when afflicted with calamity: "To Allah We belong, and to Him is our return":-
(2:264)

يَٰٓأَيُّهَا  ٱلَّذِينَ  ءَامَنُوا۟  لَا  تُبْطِلُوا۟  صَدَقَٰتِكُم  بِٱلْمَنِّ  وَٱلْأَذَىٰ  كَٱلَّذِى  يُنفِقُ  مَالَهُۥ  رِئَآءَ  ٱلنَّاسِ  وَلَا  يُؤْمِنُ  بِٱللَّـهِ  وَٱلْيَوْمِ  ٱلْأَخِرِ  فَمَثَلُهُۥ  كَمَثَلِ  صَفْوَانٍ  عَلَيْهِ  تُرَابٌ  فَأَصَابَهُۥ  وَابِلٌ  فَتَرَكَهُۥ  صَلْدًا  لَّا  يَقْدِرُونَ  عَلَىٰ  شَىْءٍ  مِّمَّا  كَسَبُوا۟  وَٱللَّـهُ  لَا  يَهْدِى  ٱلْقَوْمَ  ٱلْكَٰفِرِينَ yā‑ayyuhā lladhīna āmanū tubṭilū ṣadaqātikum bil‑manni wa‑l‑adha ka‑lladhī yunfiqu mālahu riʾāʾa l‑nāsi wa‑lā yuʾminū billāhi wa‑l‑yawmi l‑akhiri fa‑mathaluhu ka‑mathali ṣafwānin ʿalayhi turābun fa‑aṣābahu wābilun fa‑tarakahu ṣaldan yaqdirūna ʿalā shayʾin mimmā kasabū wallāhu yahdī l‑qawma l‑kāfirīna
O ye who believe! cancel not your charity by reminders of your generosity or by injury,- like those who spend their substance to be seen of men, but believe neither in Allah nor in the Last Day. They are in parable like a hard, barren rock, on which is a little soil: on it falls heavy rain, which leaves it (Just) a bare stone. They will be able to do nothing with aught they have earned. And Allah guideth not those who reject faith.
(2:265)

وَمَثَلُ  ٱلَّذِينَ  يُنفِقُونَ  أَمْوَٰلَهُمُ  ٱبْتِغَآءَ  مَرْضَاتِ  ٱللَّـهِ  وَتَثْبِيتًا  مِّنْ  أَنفُسِهِمْ  كَمَثَلِ  جَنَّةٍۭ  بِرَبْوَةٍ  أَصَابَهَا  وَابِلٌ  فَـَٔاتَتْ  أُكُلَهَا  ضِعْفَيْنِ  فَإِن  لَّمْ  يُصِبْهَا  وَابِلٌ  فَطَلٌّ  وَٱللَّـهُ  بِمَا  تَعْمَلُونَ  بَصِيرٌ wa‑mathalu lladhīna yunfiqūna amwālahumu ibtighāʾa marḍāti allāhi wa‑tathbītan min anfusihim ka‑mathali jannatin bi‑rabwatin aṣābahā wābilun fa‑ātat ukulahā ḍiʿfayni fa‑in lam yuṣibhā wābilun fa‑ṭallun wallāhu bi‑mā taʿmalūna baṣīrun
And the likeness of those who spend their substance, seeking to please Allah and to strengthen their souls, is as a garden, high and fertile: heavy rain falls on it but makes it yield a double increase of harvest, and if it receives not Heavy rain, light moisture sufficeth it. Allah seeth well whatever ye do.
(2:266)

أَيَوَدُّ  أَحَدُكُمْ  أَن  تَكُونَ  لَهُۥ  جَنَّةٌ  مِّن  نَّخِيلٍ  وَأَعْنَابٍ  تَجْرِى  مِن  تَحْتِهَا  ٱلْأَنْهَٰرُ  لَهُۥ  فِيهَا  مِن  كُلِّ  ٱلثَّمَرَٰتِ  وَأَصَابَهُ  ٱلْكِبَرُ  وَلَهُۥ  ذُرِّيَّةٌ  ضُعَفَآءُ  فَأَصَابَهَآ  إِعْصَارٌ  فِيهِ  نَارٌ  فَٱحْتَرَقَتْ  كَذَٰلِكَ  يُبَيِّنُ  ٱللَّـهُ  لَكُمُ  ٱلْأَيَٰتِ  لَعَلَّكُمْ  تَتَفَكَّرُونَ ayawaddu aḥadukum an takūna lahu jannatun min nakhīlin wa‑aʿnābin tajrī min taḥtihā l‑anhāru lahu fīhā min kulli l‑thamarāti wa‑aṣābahu l‑kibaru wa‑lahu dhurrīyatun ḍuʿafāʾu fa‑aṣābahā iʿṣārun fīhi nārun fa‑iḥtaraqat ka‑dhālika yubayyinu allāhu lakumu l‑ayāti la‑ʿallakum tatafakkarūna
Does any of you wish that he should have a garden with date-palms and vines and streams flowing underneath, and all kinds of fruit, while he is stricken with old age, and his children are not strong (enough to look after themselves)- that it should be caught in a whirlwind, with fire therein, and be burnt up? Thus doth Allah make clear to you (His) Signs; that ye may consider.

Surah 3 Āl-ʿImrān (The Family of Imran)
(3:117)

What they spend in the life of this (material) world May be likened to a wind which brings a nipping frost: It strikes and destroys the harvest of men who have wronged their own souls: it is not Allah that hath wronged them, but they wrong themselves.
(3:146)

How many of the prophets fought (in Allah's way), and with them (fought) Large bands of godly men? but they never lost heart if they met with disaster in Allah's way, nor did they weaken (in will) nor give in. And Allah Loves those who are firm and steadfast.
(3:153)

Behold! ye were climbing up the high ground, without even casting a side glance at any one, and the Messenger in your rear was calling you back. There did Allah give you one distress after another by way of requital, to teach you not to grieve for (the booty) that had escaped you and for (the ill) that had befallen you. For Allah is well aware of all that ye do.
(3:165)

أَوَلَمَّآ  أَصَٰبَتْكُم  مُّصِيبَةٌ  قَدْ  أَصَبْتُم  مِّثْلَيْهَا  قُلْتُمْ  أَنَّىٰ  هَٰذَا  قُلْ  هُوَ  مِنْ  عِندِ  أَنفُسِكُمْ  إِنَّ  ٱللَّـهَ  عَلَىٰ  كُلِّ  شَىْءٍ  قَدِيرٌ awalammā aṣābatkum muṣībatun qad aṣabtum mithlayhā qultum annā hādhā qul huwa min ʿindi anfusikum inna allāha ʿalā kulli shayʾin qadīrun
What! When a single disaster smites you, although ye smote (your enemies) with one twice as great, do ye say?- "Whence is this?" Say (to them): "It is from yourselves: For Allah hath power over all things."
(3:166)

What ye suffered on the day the two armies Met, was with the leave of Allah, in order that He might test the believers,-
(3:172)

Of those who answered the call of Allah and the Messenger, even after being wounded, those who do right and refrain from wrong have a great reward;-

Surah 4 al-Nisāʾ (The Women)
(4:62)

فَكَيْفَ  إِذَآ  أَصَٰبَتْهُم  مُّصِيبَةٌۢ  بِمَا  قَدَّمَتْ  أَيْدِيهِمْ  ثُمَّ  جَآءُوكَ  يَحْلِفُونَ  بِٱللَّـهِ  إِنْ  أَرَدْنَآ  إِلَّآ  إِحْسَٰنًا  وَتَوْفِيقًا fa‑kayfa idhā aṣābathum muṣībatun bi‑mā qaddamat aydīhim thumma jāʾūka yaḥlifūna billāhi in aradnā illā iḥsānan wa‑tawfīqan
How then, when they are seized by misfortune, because of the deeds which they hands have sent forth? Then their come to thee, swearing by Allah: "We meant no more than good-will and conciliation!"
(4:72)

وَإِنَّ  مِنكُمْ  لَمَن  لَّيُبَطِّئَنَّ  فَإِنْ  أَصَٰبَتْكُم  مُّصِيبَةٌ  قَالَ  قَدْ  أَنْعَمَ  ٱللَّـهُ  عَلَىَّ  إِذْ  لَمْ  أَكُن  مَّعَهُمْ  شَهِيدًا wa‑inna minkum laman llayubaṭṭianna fa‑in aṣābatkum muṣībatun qalā qad anʿama allāhu ʿalayya idh lam akun maʿahum shahīdan
There are certainly among you men who would tarry behind: If a misfortune befalls you, they say: "Allah did favour us in that we were not present among them."
(4:73)

وَلَئِنْ  أَصَٰبَكُمْ  فَضْلٌ  مِّنَ  ٱللَّـهِ  لَيَقُولَنَّ  كَأَن  لَّمْ  تَكُنۢ  بَيْنَكُمْ  وَبَيْنَهُۥ  مَوَدَّةٌ  يَٰلَيْتَنِى  كُنتُ  مَعَهُمْ  فَأَفُوزَ  فَوْزًا  عَظِيمًا wa‑lain aṣābakum faḍlun mina allāhi la‑yaqūlanna ka‑an lam takun baynakum wa‑baynahu mawaddatun yā‑laytanī kuntu maʿahum fa‑afūza fawzan ʿaẓīman
But if good fortune comes to you from Allah, they would be sure to say - as if there had never been Ties of affection between you and them - "Oh! I wish I had been with them; a fine thing should I then have made of it!"
(4:78)

أَيْنَمَا  تَكُونُوا۟  يُدْرِككُّمُ  ٱلْمَوْتُ  وَلَوْ  كُنتُمْ  فِى  بُرُوجٍ  مُّشَيَّدَةٍ  وَإِن  تُصِبْهُمْ  حَسَنَةٌ  يَقُولُوا۟  هَٰذِهِۦ  مِنْ  عِندِ  ٱللَّـهِ  وَإِن  تُصِبْهُمْ  سَيِّئَةٌ  يَقُولُوا۟  هَٰذِهِۦ  مِنْ  عِندِكَ  قُلْ  كُلٌّ  مِّنْ  عِندِ  ٱللَّـهِ  فَمَالِ  هَٰٓؤُلَآءِ  ٱلْقَوْمِ  لَا  يَكَادُونَ  يَفْقَهُونَ  حَدِيثًا aynamā takūnū yudrikkkumu l‑mawtu wa‑law kuntum burūjin mushayyadatin wa‑in tuṣibhum ḥasanatun yaqūlū hādhihi min ʿindi allāhi wa‑in tuṣibhum sayyiʾatun yaqūlū hādhihi min ʿindika qul kullun min ʿindi allāhi fa‑māli hāʾulāʾi l‑qawmi yakādūna yafqahūna ḥadīthan
"Wherever ye are, death will find you out, even if ye are in towers built up strong and high!" If some good befalls them, they say, "This is from Allah"; but if evil, they say, "This is from thee" (O Prophet). Say: "All things are from Allah." But what hath come to these people, that they fail to understand a single fact?
(4:79)

Whatever good, (O man!) happens to thee, is from Allah; but whatever evil happens to thee, is from thy (own) soul. and We have sent thee as a messenger to (instruct) mankind. And enough is Allah for a witness.

Surah 5 al-Māʾidah (The Table Spread)
(5:49)

وَأَنِ  ٱحْكُم  بَيْنَهُم  بِمَآ  أَنزَلَ  ٱللَّـهُ  وَلَا  تَتَّبِعْ  أَهْوَآءَهُمْ  وَٱحْذَرْهُمْ  أَن  يَفْتِنُوكَ  عَنۢ  بَعْضِ  مَآ  أَنزَلَ  ٱللَّـهُ  إِلَيْكَ  فَإِن  تَوَلَّوْا۟  فَٱعْلَمْ  أَنَّمَا  يُرِيدُ  ٱللَّـهُ  أَن  يُصِيبَهُم  بِبَعْضِ  ذُنُوبِهِمْ  وَإِنَّ  كَثِيرًا  مِّنَ  ٱلنَّاسِ  لَفَٰسِقُونَ wa‑ani aḥkum baynahum bimā anzala allāhu wa‑lā tattabiʿ ahwāʾahum wa‑aḥdharhum an yaftinūka ʿan baʿḍi anzala allāhu ilayka fa‑in tawallaw fa‑iʿlam annamā yurīdu allāhu an yuṣībahum bi‑baʿḍi dhunūbihim wa‑inna kathīran mina l‑nāsi lafāsiqūna
And this (He commands): Judge thou between them by what Allah hath revealed, and follow not their vain desires, but beware of them lest they beguile thee from any of that (teaching) which Allah hath sent down to thee. And if they turn away, be assured that for some of their crime it is Allah's purpose to punish them. And truly most men are rebellious.
(5:52)

فَتَرَى  ٱلَّذِينَ  فِى  قُلُوبِهِم  مَّرَضٌ  يُسَٰرِعُونَ  فِيهِمْ  يَقُولُونَ  نَخْشَىٰٓ  أَن  تُصِيبَنَا  دَآئِرَةٌ  فَعَسَى  ٱللَّـهُ  أَن  يَأْتِىَ  بِٱلْفَتْحِ  أَوْ  أَمْرٍ  مِّنْ  عِندِهِۦ  فَيُصْبِحُوا۟  عَلَىٰ  مَآ  أَسَرُّوا۟  فِىٓ  أَنفُسِهِمْ  نَٰدِمِينَ fatarā lladhīna qulūbihim maraḍun yusāriʿūna fīhim yaqūlūna nakhsha an tuṣībanā dāʾiratun fa‑ʿaṣā allāhu an yaʾtiya bil‑fatḥi aw amrin min ʿindihi fa‑yuṣbiḥū ʿalā asarrū anfusihim nādimīna
Those in whose hearts is a disease - thou seest how eagerly they run about amongst them, saying: "We do fear lest a change of fortune bring us disaster." Ah! perhaps Allah will give (thee) victory, or a decision according to His will. Then will they repent of the thoughts which they secretly harboured in their hearts.
(5:106)

O ye who believe! When death approaches any of you, (take) witnesses among yourselves when making bequests,- two just men of your own (brotherhood) or others from outside if ye are journeying through the earth, and the chance of death befalls you (thus). If ye doubt (their truth), detain them both after prayer, and let them both swear by Allah: "We wish not in this for any worldly gain, even though the (beneficiary) be our near relation: we shall hide not the evidence before Allah: if we do, then behold! the sin be upon us!"

Surah 6 al-Anʿām (The Cattle)
(6:124)

وَإِذَا  جَآءَتْهُمْ  ءَايَةٌ  قَالُوا۟  لَن  نُّؤْمِنَ  حَتَّىٰ  نُؤْتَىٰ  مِثْلَ  مَآ  أُوتِىَ  رُسُلُ  ٱللَّـهِ  ٱللَّـهُ  أَعْلَمُ  حَيْثُ  يَجْعَلُ  رِسَالَتَهُۥ  سَيُصِيبُ  ٱلَّذِينَ  أَجْرَمُوا۟  صَغَارٌ  عِندَ  ٱللَّـهِ  وَعَذَابٌ  شَدِيدٌۢ  بِمَا  كَانُوا۟  يَمْكُرُونَ wa‑idhā jāʾathum āyatun qālū lan nuʾmina ḥattā nuʾtā mithla ūtiya rusulu allāhi allāhu aʿlamu ḥaythu yajʿalu risālatahu sa‑yuṣību lladhīna ajramū ṣaghārun ʿinda allāhi wa‑ʿadhābun shadīdun bi‑mā kānū yamkurūna
When there comes to them a sign (from Allah), They say: "We shall not believe until we receive one (exactly) like those received by Allah's messengers." Allah knoweth best where (and how) to carry out His mission. Soon will the wicked be overtaken by humiliation before Allah, and a severe punishment, for all their plots.

Surah 7 al-Aʿrāf (The Heights)
(7:131)

فَإِذَا  جَآءَتْهُمُ  ٱلْحَسَنَةُ  قَالُوا۟  لَنَا  هَٰذِهِۦ  وَإِن  تُصِبْهُمْ  سَيِّئَةٌ  يَطَّيَّرُوا۟  بِمُوسَىٰ  وَمَن  مَّعَهُۥٓ  أَلَآ  إِنَّمَا  طَٰٓئِرُهُمْ  عِندَ  ٱللَّـهِ  وَلَٰكِنَّ  أَكْثَرَهُمْ  لَا  يَعْلَمُونَ fa‑idhā jāʾathumu l‑ḥasanatu qālū la‑nā hādhihi wa‑in tuṣibhum sayyiʾatun yaṭṭayyarū bimūsa wa‑man maʿahu āla innamā ṭāʾiruhum ʿinda allāhi wa‑lākinna aktharahum yaʿlamūna
But when good (times) came, they said, "This is due to us;" When gripped by calamity, they ascribed it to evil omens connected with Moses and those with him! Behold! in truth the omens of evil are theirs in Allah's sight, but most of them do not understand!

Surah 8 al-Anfāl (The Spoils of War)
(8:25)

وَٱتَّقُوا۟  فِتْنَةً  لَّا  تُصِيبَنَّ  ٱلَّذِينَ  ظَلَمُوا۟  مِنكُمْ  خَآصَّةً  وَٱعْلَمُوٓا۟  أَنَّ  ٱللَّـهَ  شَدِيدُ  ٱلْعِقَابِ wa‑ittaqū fitnatan tuṣībanna lladhīna ẓalamū minkum khāṣṣatan wa‑iʿlamū annā allāha shadīdu l‑ʿiqābi
And fear tumult or oppression, which affecteth not in particular (only) those of you who do wrong: and know that Allah is strict in punishment.

Surah 9 al-Tawbah (Repentance)
(9:51)

Say: "Nothing will happen to us except what Allah has decreed for us: He is our protector": and on Allah let the Believers put their trust.
(9:52)

قُلْ  هَلْ  تَرَبَّصُونَ  بِنَآ  إِلَّآ  إِحْدَى  ٱلْحُسْنَيَيْنِ  وَنَحْنُ  نَتَرَبَّصُ  بِكُمْ  أَن  يُصِيبَكُمُ  ٱللَّـهُ  بِعَذَابٍ  مِّنْ  عِندِهِۦٓ  أَوْ  بِأَيْدِينَا  فَتَرَبَّصُوٓا۟  إِنَّا  مَعَكُم  مُّتَرَبِّصُونَ qul hal tarabbaṣūna binā illā iḥda l‑ḥusnayayni wa‑naḥnu natarabbaṣu bikum an yuṣībakumu allāhu bi‑ʿadhābin min ʿindihi aw bi‑aydīnā fatarabbaṣū innā maʿakum mutarabbiṣūna
Say: "Can you expect for us (any fate) other than one of two glorious things- (Martyrdom or victory)? But we can expect for you either that Allah will send his punishment from Himself, or by our hands. So wait (expectant); we too will wait with you."
(9:90)

وَجَآءَ  ٱلْمُعَذِّرُونَ  مِنَ  ٱلْأَعْرَابِ  لِيُؤْذَنَ  لَهُمْ  وَقَعَدَ  ٱلَّذِينَ  كَذَبُوا۟  ٱللَّـهَ  وَرَسُولَهُۥ  سَيُصِيبُ  ٱلَّذِينَ  كَفَرُوا۟  مِنْهُمْ  عَذَابٌ  أَلِيمٌ wa‑jāʾa l‑muʿadhdhirūna mina l‑aʿrābi li‑yuʾdhana lahum wa‑qaʿada lladhīna kadhabū allāha wa‑rasūlahu sa‑yuṣību lladhīna kafarū minhum ʿadhābun alīmun
And there were, among the desert Arabs (also), men who made excuses and came to claim exemption; and those who were false to Allah and His Messenger (merely) sat inactive. Soon will a grievous penalty seize the Unbelievers among them.

It was not fitting for the people of Medina and the Bedouin Arabs of the neighbourhood, to refuse to follow Allah's Messenger, nor to prefer their own lives to his: because nothing could they suffer or do, but was reckoned to their credit as a deed of righteousness,- whether they suffered thirst, or fatigue, or hunger, in the cause of Allah, or trod paths to raise the ire of the Unbelievers, or received any injury whatever from an enemy: for Allah suffereth not the reward to be lost of those who do good;-

If there were a Qur'an with which mountains were moved, or the earth were cloven asunder, or the dead were made to speak, (this would be the one!) But, truly, the command is with Allah in all things! Do not the Believers know, that, had Allah (so) willed, He could have guided all mankind (to the right)? But the Unbelievers,- never will disaster cease to seize them for their (ill) deeds, or to settle close to their homes, until the promise of Allah come to pass, for, verily, Allah will not fail in His promise.

Surah 16 al-Naḥl (The Bee)
(16:34)

(22:11)

There are among men some who serve Allah, as it were, on the verge: if good befalls them, they are, therewith, well content; but if a trial comes to them, they turn on their faces: they lose both this world and the Hereafter: that is loss for all to see!

Seest thou not that Allah makes the clouds move gently, then joins them together, then makes them into a heap? - then wilt thou see rain issue forth from their midst. And He sends down from the sky mountain masses (of clouds) wherein is hail: He strikes therewith whom He pleases and He turns it away from whom He pleases, the vivid flash of His lightning well-nigh blinds the sight.

Surah 28 al-Qaṣaṣ (The Narrative)
(28:47)

Surah 30 al-Rūm (The Romans)

Surah 31 Luqmān (Lukman)
