RefArabic    TransliterationTranslation
(2:126)

وَإِذْ  قَالَ  إِبْرَٰهِـۧمُ  رَبِّ  ٱجْعَلْ  هَٰذَا  بَلَدًا  ءَامِنًا  وَٱرْزُقْ  أَهْلَهُۥ  مِنَ  ٱلثَّمَرَٰتِ  مَنْ  ءَامَنَ  مِنْهُم  بِٱللَّـهِ  وَٱلْيَوْمِ  ٱلْأَخِرِ  قَالَ  وَمَن  كَفَرَ  فَأُمَتِّعُهُۥ  قَلِيلًا  ثُمَّ  أَضْطَرُّهُۥٓ  إِلَىٰ  عَذَابِ  ٱلنَّارِ  وَبِئْسَ  ٱلْمَصِيرُ wa‑idh qalā ibrāhīmu rabbi ajʿal hādhā baladan āminan wa‑arzuq ahlahu mina l‑thamarāti man āmana minhum billāhi wa‑l‑yawmi l‑akhiri qalā wa‑man kafara fa‑umattiʿuhu qalīlan thumma aḍṭarruhu ilā ʿadhābi l‑nāri wa‑biʾsa l‑maṣīru
And remember Abraham said: "My Lord, make this a City of Peace, and feed its people with fruits,-such of them as believe in Allah and the Last Day." He said: "(Yea), and such as reject Faith,-for a while will I grant them their pleasure, but will soon drive them to the torment of Fire,- an evil destination (indeed)!"

Surah 10 Yūnus (Jonah)
(10:98)

Why was there not a single township (among those We warned), which believed,- so its faith should have profited it,- except the people of Jonah? When they believed, We removed from them the penalty of ignominy in the life of the present, and permitted them to enjoy (their life) for a while.

Surah 11 Hūd (Hud)
(11:48)

The word came: "O Noah! Come down (from the Ark) with peace from Us, and blessing on thee and on some of the peoples (who will spring) from those with thee: but (there will be other) peoples to whom We shall grant their pleasures (for a time), but in the end will a grievous penalty reach them from Us."

Surah 15 al-Ḥijr (The Rocky Tract)
(15:88)

Strain not thine eyes. (Wistfully) at what We have bestowed on certain classes of them, nor grieve over them: but lower thy wing (in gentleness) to the believers.

Surah 20 Ṭā Hā (Ta-Ha)
(20:131)

Nor strain thine eyes in longing for the things We have given for enjoyment to parties of them, the splendour of the life of this world, through which We test them: but the provision of thy Lord is better and more enduring.

Surah 21 al-Anbiyāʾ (The Prophets)
(21:44)

بَلْ  مَتَّعْنَا  هَٰٓؤُلَآءِ  وَءَابَآءَهُمْ  حَتَّىٰ  طَالَ  عَلَيْهِمُ  ٱلْعُمُرُ  أَفَلَا  يَرَوْنَ  أَنَّا  نَأْتِى  ٱلْأَرْضَ  نَنقُصُهَا  مِنْ  أَطْرَافِهَآ  أَفَهُمُ  ٱلْغَٰلِبُونَ bal mattaʿnā hāʾulāʾi wa‑ābāahum ḥattā ṭāla ʿalayhimu l‑ʿumuru a‑fa‑lā yarawna annā natī l‑arḍa nanquṣuhā min aṭrāfihā afahumu l‑ghālibūna
Nay, We gave the good things of this life to these men and their fathers until the period grew long for them; See they not that We gradually reduce the land (in their control) from its outlying borders? Is it then they who will win?

Surah 26 al-Shuʿarā (The Poets)
(26:205)

أَفَرَءَيْتَ  إِن  مَّتَّعْنَٰهُمْ  سِنِينَ a‑fa‑raʾayta in mattaʿnāhum sinīna
Seest thou? If We do let them enjoy (this life) for a few years,

Surah 28 al-Qaṣaṣ (The Narrative)
(28:61)

أَفَمَن  وَعَدْنَٰهُ  وَعْدًا  حَسَنًا  فَهُوَ  لَٰقِيهِ  كَمَن  مَّتَّعْنَٰهُ  مَتَٰعَ  ٱلْحَيَوٰةِ  ٱلدُّنْيَا  ثُمَّ  هُوَ  يَوْمَ  ٱلْقِيَٰمَةِ  مِنَ  ٱلْمُحْضَرِينَ a‑fa‑man waʿadnāhu waʿdan ḥasanan fa‑huwa lāqīhi ka‑man mattaʿnāhu matāʿa l‑ḥayāti l‑dunyā thumma huwa yawma l‑qiyāmati mina l‑muḥḍarīna
Are (these two) alike?- one to whom We have made a goodly promise, and who is going to reach its (fulfilment), and one to whom We have given the good things of this life, but who, on the Day of Judgment, is to be among those brought up (for punishment)?

Surah 31 Luqmān (Lukman)
(31:24)

We grant them their pleasure for a little while: in the end shall We drive them to a chastisement unrelenting.

Surah 33 al-Aḥzāb (The Allies)
(33:28)

يَٰٓأَيُّهَا  ٱلنَّبِىُّ  قُل  لِّأَزْوَٰجِكَ  إِن  كُنتُنَّ  تُرِدْنَ  ٱلْحَيَوٰةَ  ٱلدُّنْيَا  وَزِينَتَهَا  فَتَعَالَيْنَ  أُمَتِّعْكُنَّ  وَأُسَرِّحْكُنَّ  سَرَاحًا  جَمِيلًا yā‑ayyuhā l‑nabiyyu qul li‑azwājika in kuntunna turidna l‑ḥayāta l‑dunyā wa‑zīnatahā fa‑taʿālayna umattiʿkunna wa‑usarriḥkunna sarāḥan jamīlan
O Prophet! Say to thy Consorts: "If it be that ye desire the life of this World, and its glitter,- then come! I will provide for your enjoyment and set you free in a handsome manner.

Surah 37 al-Ṣaffāt (The Rangers)
(37:148)

فَـَٔامَنُوا۟  فَمَتَّعْنَٰهُمْ  إِلَىٰ  حِينٍ fa‑āmanū fa‑mattaʿnāhum ilā ḥīnin
And they believed; so We permitted them to enjoy (their life) for a while.

Surah 43 al-Zukhruf (The Embellishment)
(43:29)

بَلْ  مَتَّعْتُ  هَٰٓؤُلَآءِ  وَءَابَآءَهُمْ  حَتَّىٰ  جَآءَهُمُ  ٱلْحَقُّ  وَرَسُولٌ  مُّبِينٌ bal mattaʿtu hāʾulāʾi wa‑ābāahum ḥattā jāʾahumu l‑ḥaqqu wa‑rasūlun mubīnun
Yea, I have given the good things of this life to these (men) and their fathers, until the Truth has come to them, and a messenger making things clear.
