Sura al-Baqara 2:81

بَلَىٰ مَن كَسَبَ سَيِّئَةً وَأَحَٰطَتْ بِهِۦ خَطِيٓـَٔتُهُۥ فَأُو۟لَٰٓئِكَ أَصْحَٰبُ ٱلنَّارِ هُمْ فِيهَا خَٰلِدُونَ

balā man kasaba sayyiʾatan wa-aḥāṭat bihi khaṭīʾatuhu fa-ūlāʾika aṣḥābu l-nāri hum fīhā khālidūna

Nay, those who seek gain in evil, and are girt round by their sins,- they are companions of the Fire: Therein shall they abide (For ever).

Sura Āl-ʿImrān 3:120

إِن تَمْسَسْكُمْ حَسَنَةٌ تَسُؤْهُمْ وَإِن تُصِبْكُمْ سَيِّئَةٌ يَفْرَحُوا۟ بِهَا وَإِن تَصْبِرُوا۟ وَتَتَّقُوا۟ لَا يَضُرُّكُمْ كَيْدُهُمْ شَيْـًٔا إِنَّ ٱللَّـهَ بِمَا يَعْمَلُونَ مُحِيطٌ

in tamsaskum ḥasanatun tasuʾhum wa-in tuṣibkum sayyiʾatun yafraḥū bihā wa-in taṣbirū wa-tattaqū lā yaḍurrukum kayduhum shayʾan inna allāha bi-mā yaʿmalūna muḥīṭun

If aught that is good befalls you, it grieves them; but if some misfortune overtakes you, they rejoice at it. But if ye are constant and do right, not the least harm will their cunning do to you; for Allah Compasseth round about all that they do.

Sura al-Nisāʾ 4:78

أَيْنَمَا تَكُونُوا۟ يُدْرِككُّمُ ٱلْمَوْتُ وَلَوْ كُنتُمْ فِى بُرُوجٍ مُّشَيَّدَةٍ وَإِن تُصِبْهُمْ حَسَنَةٌ يَقُولُوا۟ هَٰذِهِۦ مِنْ عِندِ ٱللَّـهِ وَإِن تُصِبْهُمْ سَيِّئَةٌ يَقُولُوا۟ هَٰذِهِۦ مِنْ عِندِكَ قُلْ كُلٌّ مِّنْ عِندِ ٱللَّـهِ فَمَالِ هَٰٓؤُلَآءِ ٱلْقَوْمِ لَا يَكَادُونَ يَفْقَهُونَ حَدِيثًا

aynamā takūnū yudrikkkumu l-mawtu wa-law kuntum fī burūjin mushayyadatin wa-in tuṣibhum ḥasanatun yaqūlū hādhihi min ʿindi allāhi wa-in tuṣibhum sayyiʾatun yaqūlū hādhihi min ʿindika qul kullun min ʿindi allāhi fa-māli hāʾulāʾi l-qawmi lā yakādūna yafqahūna ḥadīthan

"Wherever ye are, death will find you out, even if ye are in towers built up strong and high!" If some good befalls them, they say, "This is from Allah"; but if evil, they say, "This is from thee" (O Prophet). Say: "All things are from Allah." But what hath come to these people, that they fail to understand a single fact?

Sura al-Nisāʾ 4:79

مَّآ أَصَابَكَ مِنْ حَسَنَةٍ فَمِنَ ٱللَّـهِ وَمَآ أَصَابَكَ مِن سَيِّئَةٍ فَمِن نَّفْسِكَ وَأَرْسَلْنَٰكَ لِلنَّاسِ رَسُولًا وَكَفَىٰ بِٱللَّـهِ شَهِيدًا

mā aṣābaka min ḥasanatin fa-mina allāhi wa-mā aṣābaka min sayyiʾatin famin nnafsika wa-arsalnāka lil-nāsi rasūlan wa-kafā billāhi shahīdan

Whatever good, (O man!) happens to thee, is from Allah; but whatever evil happens to thee, is from thy (own) soul. and We have sent thee as a messenger to (instruct) mankind. And enough is Allah for a witness.

Sura al-Nisāʾ 4:85

مَّن يَشْفَعْ شَفَٰعَةً حَسَنَةً يَكُن لَّهُۥ نَصِيبٌ مِّنْهَا وَمَن يَشْفَعْ شَفَٰعَةً سَيِّئَةً يَكُن لَّهُۥ كِفْلٌ مِّنْهَا وَكَانَ ٱللَّـهُ عَلَىٰ كُلِّ شَىْءٍ مُّقِيتًا

man yashfaʿ shafāʿatan ḥasanatan yakun lahu naṣībun minhā wa-man yashfaʿ shafāʿatan sayyiʾatan yakun lahu kiflun minhā wa-kāna allāhu ʿalā kulli shayʾin muqītan

Whoever recommends and helps a good cause becomes a partner therein: And whoever recommends and helps an evil cause, shares in its burden: And Allah hath power over all things.

Sura al-Aʿrāf 7:131

فَإِذَا جَآءَتْهُمُ ٱلْحَسَنَةُ قَالُوا۟ لَنَا هَٰذِهِۦ وَإِن تُصِبْهُمْ سَيِّئَةٌ يَطَّيَّرُوا۟ بِمُوسَىٰ وَمَن مَّعَهُۥٓ أَلَآ إِنَّمَا طَٰٓئِرُهُمْ عِندَ ٱللَّـهِ وَلَٰكِنَّ أَكْثَرَهُمْ لَا يَعْلَمُونَ

fa-idhā jāʾathumu l-ḥasanatu qālū la-nā hādhihi wa-in tuṣibhum sayyiʾatun yaṭṭayyarū bimūsa wa-man maʿahu āla innamā ṭāʾiruhum ʿinda allāhi wa-lākinna aktharahum lā yaʿlamūna

But when good (times) came, they said, "This is due to us;" When gripped by calamity, they ascribed it to evil omens connected with Moses and those with him! Behold! in truth the omens of evil are theirs in Allah's sight, but most of them do not understand!

Sura al-Tawbah 9:37

إِنَّمَا ٱلنَّسِىٓءُ زِيَادَةٌ فِى ٱلْكُفْرِ يُضَلُّ بِهِ ٱلَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا۟ يُحِلُّونَهُۥ عَامًا وَيُحَرِّمُونَهُۥ عَامًا لِّيُوَاطِـُٔوا۟ عِدَّةَ مَا حَرَّمَ ٱللَّـهُ فَيُحِلُّوا۟ مَا حَرَّمَ ٱللَّـهُ زُيِّنَ لَهُمْ سُوٓءُ أَعْمَٰلِهِمْ وَٱللَّـهُ لَا يَهْدِى ٱلْقَوْمَ ٱلْكَٰفِرِينَ

innamā l-nasīu ziyādatun fī l-kufri yuḍallu bihi lladhīna kafarū yuḥillūnahu ʿāman wa-yuḥarrimūnahu ʿāman li-yuwāṭiʾū ʿiddata mā ḥarrama allāhu fa-yuḥillū mā ḥarrama allāhu zuyyina lahum sūu aʿmālihim wallāhu lā yahdī l-qawma l-kāfirīna

Verily the transposing (of a prohibited month) is an addition to Unbelief: the Unbelievers are led to wrong thereby: for they make it lawful one year, and forbidden another year, in order to adjust the number of months forbidden by Allah and make such forbidden ones lawful. The evil of their course seems pleasing to them. But Allah guideth not those who reject Faith.

Sura Yūnus 10:27

وَٱلَّذِينَ كَسَبُوا۟ ٱلسَّيِّـَٔاتِ جَزَآءُ سَيِّئَةٍۭ بِمِثْلِهَا وَتَرْهَقُهُمْ ذِلَّةٌ مَّا لَهُم مِّنَ ٱللَّـهِ مِنْ عَاصِمٍ كَأَنَّمَآ أُغْشِيَتْ وُجُوهُهُمْ قِطَعًا مِّنَ ٱلَّيْلِ مُظْلِمًا أُو۟لَٰٓئِكَ أَصْحَٰبُ ٱلنَّارِ هُمْ فِيهَا خَٰلِدُونَ

wa-lladhīna kasabū l-sayyiʾāti jazāʾu sayyiʾatin bi-mithlihā wa-tarhaquhum dhillatun mā lahum mina allāhi min ʿāṣimin kaannamā ughshiyat wujūhuhum qiṭaʿan mina l-layli muẓliman ulāʾika aṣḥābu l-nāri hum fīhā khālidūna

But those who have earned evil will have a reward of like evil: ignominy will cover their (faces): No defender will they have from (the wrath of) Allah: Their faces will be covered, as it were, with pieces from the depth of the darkness of night: they are companions of the Fire: they will abide therein (for aye)!

Sura al-Raʿd 13:18

لِلَّذِينَ ٱسْتَجَابُوا۟ لِرَبِّهِمُ ٱلْحُسْنَىٰ وَٱلَّذِينَ لَمْ يَسْتَجِيبُوا۟ لَهُۥ لَوْ أَنَّ لَهُم مَّا فِى ٱلْأَرْضِ جَمِيعًا وَمِثْلَهُۥ مَعَهُۥ لَٱفْتَدَوْا۟ بِهِۦٓ أُو۟لَٰٓئِكَ لَهُمْ سُوٓءُ ٱلْحِسَابِ وَمَأْوَىٰهُمْ جَهَنَّمُ وَبِئْسَ ٱلْمِهَادُ

li-lladhīna istajābū lirabbihimu l-ḥusnā wa-lladhīna lam yastajībū lahu law annā lahum mā fī l-arḍi jamīʿan wa-mithlahu maʿahu la-iftadaw bihi ulāʾika lahum sūu l-ḥisābi wa-maʾwāhum jahannamu wa-bisa l-mihādu

For those who respond to their Lord, are (all) good things. But those who respond not to Him,- Even if they had all that is in the heavens and on earth, and as much more, (in vain) would they offer it for ransom. For them will the reckoning be terrible: their abode will be Hell,- what a bed of misery!

Sura al-Raʿd 13:25

وَٱلَّذِينَ يَنقُضُونَ عَهْدَ ٱللَّـهِ مِنۢ بَعْدِ مِيثَٰقِهِۦ وَيَقْطَعُونَ مَآ أَمَرَ ٱللَّـهُ بِهِۦٓ أَن يُوصَلَ وَيُفْسِدُونَ فِى ٱلْأَرْضِ أُو۟لَٰٓئِكَ لَهُمُ ٱللَّعْنَةُ وَلَهُمْ سُوٓءُ ٱلدَّارِ

wa-lladhīna yanquḍūna ʿahda allāhi min baʿdi mīthāqihi wa-yaqṭaʿūna mā amara allāhu bihi an yūṣala wa-yufsidūna fī l-arḍi ulāʾika lahumu l-laʿnatu wa-lahum sūu l-dāri

But those who break the Covenant of Allah, after having plighted their word thereto, and cut asunder those things which Allah has commanded to be joined, and work mischief in the land;- on them is the curse; for them is the terrible home!

Sura Maryam 19:28

يَٰٓأُخْتَ هَٰرُونَ مَا كَانَ أَبُوكِ ٱمْرَأَ سَوْءٍ وَمَا كَانَتْ أُمُّكِ بَغِيًّا

yā-ukhta hārūna mā kāna abūki imraʾa sawʾin wa-mā kānat ummuki baghiyyan

"O sister of Aaron! Thy father was not a man of evil, nor thy mother a woman unchaste!"

Sura al-Anbiyāʾ 21:74

وَلُوطًا ءَاتَيْنَٰهُ حُكْمًا وَعِلْمًا وَنَجَّيْنَٰهُ مِنَ ٱلْقَرْيَةِ ٱلَّتِى كَانَت تَّعْمَلُ ٱلْخَبَٰٓئِثَ إِنَّهُمْ كَانُوا۟ قَوْمَ سَوْءٍ فَٰسِقِينَ

wa-lūṭan ātaynāhu ḥukman wa-ʿilman wa-najjaynāhu mina l-qaryati allatī kānat ttaʿmalu l-khabāʾitha innahum kānū qawma sawʾin fāsiqīna

And to Lut, too, We gave Judgment and Knowledge, and We saved him from the town which practised abominations: truly they were a people given to Evil, a rebellious people.

Sura al-Anbiyāʾ 21:77

وَنَصَرْنَٰهُ مِنَ ٱلْقَوْمِ ٱلَّذِينَ كَذَّبُوا۟ بِـَٔايَٰتِنَآ إِنَّهُمْ كَانُوا۟ قَوْمَ سَوْءٍ فَأَغْرَقْنَٰهُمْ أَجْمَعِينَ

wa-naṣarnāhu mina l-qawmi lladhīna kadhdhabū bi-āyātinā innahum kānū qawma sawʾin fa-aghraqnāhum ajmaʿīna

We helped him against people who rejected Our Signs: truly they were a people given to Evil: so We drowned them (in the Flood) all together.

Sura al-Furqān 25:66

إِنَّهَا سَآءَتْ مُسْتَقَرًّا وَمُقَامًا

innahā sāat mustaqarran wa-muqāman

"Evil indeed is it as an abode, and as a place to rest in";

Sura al-Naml 27:5

أُو۟لَٰٓئِكَ ٱلَّذِينَ لَهُمْ سُوٓءُ ٱلْعَذَابِ وَهُمْ فِى ٱلْأَخِرَةِ هُمُ ٱلْأَخْسَرُونَ

ulāʾika lladhīna lahum sūu l-ʿadhābi wa-hum fī l-akhirati humu l-akhsarūna

Such are they for whom a grievous Penalty is (waiting); and in the Hereafter theirs will be the greatest loss.

Sura al-Rūm 30:36

وَإِذَآ أَذَقْنَا ٱلنَّاسَ رَحْمَةً فَرِحُوا۟ بِهَا وَإِن تُصِبْهُمْ سَيِّئَةٌۢ بِمَا قَدَّمَتْ أَيْدِيهِمْ إِذَا هُمْ يَقْنَطُونَ

wa-idhā adhaqnā l-nāsa raḥmatan fariḥū bihā wa-in tuṣibhum sayyiatun bi-mā qaddamat aydīhim idhā hum yaqnaṭūna

When We give men a taste of Mercy, they exult thereat: and when some evil afflicts them because of what their (own) hands have sent forth, behold, they are in despair!

Sura al-Faṭīr 35:8

أَفَمَن زُيِّنَ لَهُۥ سُوٓءُ عَمَلِهِۦ فَرَءَاهُ حَسَنًا فَإِنَّ ٱللَّـهَ يُضِلُّ مَن يَشَآءُ وَيَهْدِى مَن يَشَآءُ فَلَا تَذْهَبْ نَفْسُكَ عَلَيْهِمْ حَسَرَٰتٍ إِنَّ ٱللَّـهَ عَلِيمٌۢ بِمَا يَصْنَعُونَ

a-fa-man zuyyina lahu sūu ʿamalihi fa-raʾāhu ḥasanan fa-inna allāha yuḍillu man yashāʾu wa-yahdī man yashāʾu fa-lā tadhhab nafsuka ʿalayhim ḥasarātin inna allāha ʿalīmun bi-mā yaṣnaʿūna

Is he, then, to whom the evil of his conduct is made alluring, so that he looks upon it as good, (equal to one who is rightly guided)? For Allah leaves to stray whom He wills, and guides whom He wills. So let not thy soul go out in (vainly) sighing after them: for Allah knows well all that they do!

Sura al-Ghāfir 40:37

أَسْبَٰبَ ٱلسَّمَٰوَٰتِ فَأَطَّلِعَ إِلَىٰٓ إِلَٰهِ مُوسَىٰ وَإِنِّى لَأَظُنُّهُۥ كَٰذِبًا وَكَذَٰلِكَ زُيِّنَ لِفِرْعَوْنَ سُوٓءُ عَمَلِهِۦ وَصُدَّ عَنِ ٱلسَّبِيلِ وَمَا كَيْدُ فِرْعَوْنَ إِلَّا فِى تَبَابٍ

asbāba l-samāwāti fa-aṭṭaliʿa ila ilāhi mūsā wa-innī la-aẓunnuhu kādhiban wa-ka-dhālika zuyyina li-firʿawna sūu ʿamalihi wa-ṣudda ʿani l-sabīli wa-mā kaydu firʿawna illā fī tabābin

"The ways and means of (reaching) the heavens, and that I may mount up to the god of Moses: But as far as I am concerned, I think (Moses) is a liar!" Thus was made alluring, in Pharaoh's eyes, the evil of his deeds, and he was hindered from the Path; and the plot of Pharaoh led to nothing but perdition (for him).

Sura al-Ghāfir 40:40

مَنْ عَمِلَ سَيِّئَةً فَلَا يُجْزَىٰٓ إِلَّا مِثْلَهَا وَمَنْ عَمِلَ صَٰلِحًا مِّن ذَكَرٍ أَوْ أُنثَىٰ وَهُوَ مُؤْمِنٌ فَأُو۟لَٰٓئِكَ يَدْخُلُونَ ٱلْجَنَّةَ يُرْزَقُونَ فِيهَا بِغَيْرِ حِسَابٍ

man ʿamila sayyiʾatan fa-lā yujzā illā mithlahā wa-man ʿamila ṣāliḥan min dhakarin aw unthā wa-huwa muʾminun fa-ūlāʾika yadkhulūna l-jannata yurzaqūna fīhā bi-ghayri ḥisābin

"He that works evil will not be requited but by the like thereof: and he that works a righteous deed - whether man or woman - and is a Believer- such will enter the Garden (of Bliss): Therein will they have abundance without measure.

Sura al-Ghāfir 40:45

فَوَقَىٰهُ ٱللَّـهُ سَيِّـَٔاتِ مَا مَكَرُوا۟ وَحَاقَ بِـَٔالِ فِرْعَوْنَ سُوٓءُ ٱلْعَذَابِ

fa-waqāhu allāhu sayyiāti mā makarū wa-ḥāqa bi-āli firʿawna sūu l-ʿadhābi

Then Allah saved him from (every) ill that they plotted (against him), but the burnt of the Penalty encompassed on all sides the People of Pharaoh.

Sura al-Ghāfir 40:52

يَوْمَ لَا يَنفَعُ ٱلظَّٰلِمِينَ مَعْذِرَتُهُمْ وَلَهُمُ ٱللَّعْنَةُ وَلَهُمْ سُوٓءُ ٱلدَّارِ

yawma lā yanfaʿu l-ẓālimīna maʿdhiratuhum wa-lahumu l-laʿnatu wa-lahum sūu l-dāri

The Day when no profit will it be to Wrong-doers to present their excuses, but they will (only) have the Curse and the Home of Misery.

Sura al-Shūrā 42:40

وَجَزَٰٓؤُا۟ سَيِّئَةٍ سَيِّئَةٌ مِّثْلُهَا فَمَنْ عَفَا وَأَصْلَحَ فَأَجْرُهُۥ عَلَى ٱللَّـهِ إِنَّهُۥ لَا يُحِبُّ ٱلظَّٰلِمِينَ

wa-jazāʾu sayyiʾatin sayyiʾatun mithluhā fa-man ʿafā wa-aṣlaḥa fa-ajruhu ʿalā allāhi innahu lā yuḥibbu l-ẓālimīna

The recompense for an injury is an injury equal thereto (in degree): but if a person forgives and makes reconciliation, his reward is due from Allah: for (Allah) loveth not those who do wrong.

Sura al-Shūrā 42:48

فَإِنْ أَعْرَضُوا۟ فَمَآ أَرْسَلْنَٰكَ عَلَيْهِمْ حَفِيظًا إِنْ عَلَيْكَ إِلَّا ٱلْبَلَٰغُ وَإِنَّآ إِذَآ أَذَقْنَا ٱلْإِنسَٰنَ مِنَّا رَحْمَةً فَرِحَ بِهَا وَإِن تُصِبْهُمْ سَيِّئَةٌۢ بِمَا قَدَّمَتْ أَيْدِيهِمْ فَإِنَّ ٱلْإِنسَٰنَ كَفُورٌ

fa-in aʿraḍū fa-mā arsalnāka ʿalayhim ḥafīẓan in ʿalayka illā l-balāghu wa-innā idhā adhaqnā l-insāna minnā raḥmatan fariḥa bihā wa-in tuṣibhum sayyiatun bi-mā qaddamat aydīhim fa-inna l-insāna kafūrun

If then they run away, We have not sent thee as a guard over them. Thy duty is but to convey (the Message). And truly, when We give man a taste of a Mercy from Ourselves, he doth exult thereat, but when some ill happens to him, on account of the deeds which his hands have sent forth, truly then is man ungrateful!

Sura Muḥammad 47:14

أَفَمَن كَانَ عَلَىٰ بَيِّنَةٍ مِّن رَّبِّهِۦ كَمَن زُيِّنَ لَهُۥ سُوٓءُ عَمَلِهِۦ وَٱتَّبَعُوٓا۟ أَهْوَآءَهُم

a-fa-man kāna ʿalā bayyinatin min rabbihi ka-man zuyyina lahu sūu ʿamalihi wa-ittabaʿū ahwāʾahum

Is then one who is on a clear (Path) from his Lord, no better than one to whom the evil of his conduct seems pleasing, and such as follow their own lusts?
